I've been coming to The Mug for years, and it's one of my favorite spots in the 559 area. It's perfect for studying or working, with plenty of seating and a cozy atmosphere. The food and desserts are great plus the staff are very nice. I recently tried the cinnamon roll coffee cake, which was super moist, fresh, and delicious. Their coffee is also top-notch; the Funky Monkey (white chocolate mocha with peanut butter and banana) is my go-to, and the large size packs four shots of espresso, which is perfect if you like a strong coffee. After a 3 mile run, I came here with some friends for breakfast. My white chocolate mocha was really good but I think I made the wrong choice for my brunch meal. I got the breakfast wrap which was overwhelming and greasy. My friends got the toast plate, buttermilk pancakes, and the brioche sandwich which they all said were good. Monday afterschool we stopped in for a quick drink and snack before heading to Woodward Park Library (across the street) for homework time. On this day we give a HUGE thank you to The Mug! Three kiddos ordered their drinks and a cinnamon cake. After ordering we head over to the comphy couch and chairs to relax and chat while our drinks are being made. Soon they arrive and then the 4 year old starts crying because she doesn't want the drink she ordered, she wants one like the big kids have. Ayyyyy.... Lola gives in and gives money to the 8 year old. She takes the sniffling 4 year old up to the counter, orders a new drink and comes back to the couch with the money. "He wouldn't let me pay for it." Oh goodness. When the very nice gentleman brought the drink to the now, very happy 4 year old, I once again tried to pay him. He refused. That was so nice. My family and I had just returned from a five-week vacation in Europe when we realized that one of our cats had been injured. We rushed our cat to Waterhouse for treatment, and while we were waiting, we decided to try The Mug for the first time. I was still a little delirious from the time change and definitely operating with a foggy brain while trying to order food and drinks. That's when Makayla came to my rescue. Instead of simply telling me to take my time and let her know when I was ready, she went out of her way to ask me questions, figure out what I might like, and make recommendations. I was so appreciative of her patience, kindness, and especially her suggestions. I ordered a salad and a coffee, and I have to say, this might be some of the best coffee I've had in the Valley! Unfortunately, The Mug is quite a drive for me, but I can tell you that I will definitely be going back. I'm a big proponent of great customer service, and I also make an effort to keep my money local whenever possible, so I was especially happy to learn that The Mug is a family-owned business. Before leaving, I spoke with Jordan, the manager, to let him know about my experience, and he was amazing as well. As a business owner myself, I can usually tell when people are genuinely happy to be at work. Everyone there that day seemed happy to be there, and that says a lot about the culture the ownership has created. Kudos to the owners and the entire team for maintaining such a positive environment and providing such wonderful customer service. I'll be going back as often as I can. The sandwiches were cold and way overpriced. We thought we would give this place a try again but it's way too expensive for what you get. A tiny croissant with one piece of bacon for $12. Swung by for few hours before lunch near the area with friends. I got there in the morning so I to see were plenty of seats available. Avocado toast wasn't anything out of the ordinary, but it was good! Very light breakfast. Staff will bring you the order and are very attentive to you. This is my second time here the first time we just grabbed coffee to go, this time I stayed to eat and drink. The place has a lot of seating for parties of 2 or more. They also have a countertop bar area that seats 4. They have 2 restrooms as well right behind it. The place isn't overstimulated with decor which is great, they do have a couch with a table and chairs so you can hang out with friends. The menu is easy to read, it is a limited food menu, it's not your typical breakfast spot. And the customer service is fantastic too. The drink prices are great! Start from $3-$7 dollars depending on what you're ordering. They do have specialty coffee items, and if you just want simple they have brew. I love how you can add any flavors to your drinks if you don't want it simple. They also have pastries you can buy as well, cheesecake, cinnamon rolls, and cakes. Just to let you know this isn't a grab n go type of place, you do have to wait for them to make your drinks so it maybe takes 2-5 minutes. I really love this place due to how delicious their coffee drinks are. The one I ordered reminds me of a spot I went to in San Diego, I just wish they had more than one location. I live in sunnyside area and this place is really far away. So if and when I'm on that side of town I will continue to drop in and get my favorite drink. read more

Friendly staff and owner - they make you feel welcome right away. I also appreciate that you can order your drink in a mug if you're staying in, and that they have both indoor and outdoor seating. They even have a rewards program (around every 10 purchases), which is a nice touch. It's also worth noting they only allow service animals, which keeps the café calm and tidy. Unfortunately, I haven't had the best experience with the coffee itself. The cappuccino was a sea of foam (see photo - that's before I even took a sip), and the mug wasn't very clean, with some spills and stains. Store hours are also limited, closing early. Couple days ago, on a Friday, we came during posted hours but doors were locked. Prices are also a bit higher compared to other nearby spots (almost $12 for a cap. and latte). Other places are below $10 for the same (& higher quality). Hoping the quality improves because the space and people are great. read more

The atmosphere in this place is wonderful. This is probably one of the busier coffee shops in Fresno. I can definitely tell it has a following, and understand why. The food looks great, the pastries are tasty, and the drinks are top notch. I came here on a Saturday around noon. Almost every single table was full. Thankfully I was able to find one space for myself. I had an absolutely delicious chai tea. I will warn you, this is definitely on the sweeter side. It was so sweet that I really couldn't drink it but actually needed to sip on it. when I got home, I had half of the drink left. I filled it up with milk, and it was absolutely perfect. I also had some sort of apple pastry. It was so good that I completely inhaled it before I took a picture! And I would gladly do it again. I've been here a few times now and each visit has been pleasant. It's a large open space with plenty of tables and couches in one corner. They have several tables outside as well. Everyone is friendly and they will even take the time to bring you your drink rather than just calling your name from the counter. Drinks I've tried are the iced suited and booted, iced fog breaker, and mango smoothie. Each drink has been great! They definitely have a unique menu for their specialty drinks. I have yet to try their food or pastries, but the pastries look sooo good. I may finally try it on my next visit. Nice coffee shop in North Fresno. Inside was very roomy and had quite the audience, surprisingly. Forgot the man behind the counters name but he was very nice and attentive in servicing me. Ordered a simple Iced Vanilla Latte and he walked it all the way out to me at my table. Coffee was really good, you can test the freshness of the grounded coffee beans. The barista seems very knowledgeable in making coffee. I see it as an art form and glad someone making does as well. First the spectacular- customer service! I'm not from here but whenever I visit, this is one stop I always make. Not once have i encountered poor customer service here. Everyone behind the counter has been so nice (think Trader Joe's!) for that they would get 5 stars no question about it :) HOWEVER, their iced coffees seem to be getting sweeter and sweeter at every visit, like I'm drinking liquid sugar milk with absolutely no hint of coffee, which is frustrating because their drinks are not cheap. I shouldn't have to go home and add extra shots to get the coffee taste. And I've never had to add an extra shot at past visits; the drink would be perfect. If I'm getting an iced coffee I would expect it to taste like coffee. So I'm curious, is it just me or has anyone else experienced this? read more

This has been my favorite weekend place to come to for breakfast and coffee. This weekend we were not happy for the first time in a few years. My husband ordered the Philly cheesesteak and they were out. This was the second time it happened. So then he ordered a smash burger. We were later told they were out of hamburger meat.
