The Pretzel Shop is a Pittsburgh staple, located in the Southside. I've gotten pretzels early in the morning to take into work, I've also gotten a NYE pretzel, and everything in between. They have soft pretzels, flavored pretzels, dips, breakfast sandwiches, pretzel sandwiches, and all kinds of other goodies. I usually just stop in for some soft pretzels and they are always warm and ready to go.
The Pretzel Shop is a Pittsburgh staple. My company ordered catering from them (5 large trays of pretzels/hot dog pretzels and 2 large trays of the cinnamon sugar pretzels with plenty of dips). Everything was amazing. The pretzels were all well salted, cooked, and presented. The delivery was smooth. I would definitely recommend them for catering. I then went downtown that weekend with friends to grab some other items fresh from the store. DON'T SLEEP ON THEM... no but literally.... If you come down in the afternoon, there will not be any choices. We got there at 3:30 and there were only five pretzels (not five types, but only five pretzels). They make it fresh and it sells. Only issue is that their store is not a place to eat. They only have two small counters against the front windows, and when people are entering and exiting, the door is almost a weapon to people trying to eat inside. But honestly, just get it to go and eat it at home.

The Pretzel Shop opened in 1927, and its employees bake hand-twisted pretzels in a brick oven from 1872! The pretzels come in different sizes and in many flavors: plain, salted, sugar-cinnamon, garlic, parmesan, garlic-parmesan, tomato-basil, jalapeno-cheddar, parmesan-bacon, and pepperoni-mozzarella. Dips include nacho cheese, cheddar cheese, honey mustard, spicy mustard, ranch, icing, and caramel. In addition, the menu includes many salads, sandwiches, pizzas, and other baked goods (e.g., gobs, muffins, brownies, and cookies). Catering is available. My husband and I stopped here one time. He bought several pretzels with cheese. The employees did a good job serving us, and the pretzels and cheese tasted good.
This place was so nice we had to stop twice on our 3 days in Pittsburgh! Reddit brought The Pretzel Shop to my attention when I was looking for hidden gems of places to snag a cheap meal. The food was delicious and you can get lots of it for a good price. The family that owns it was very friendly and patient with us as we made our selections, which took some time since there were lots of options. We discussed the appropriate amounts of garlic on a pepperoni roll when I told them I appreciated that theirs was pure bread, haha. It's a small place with a few tables outside, so be prepared to either take to go or eat in your car or on a walk. It's also cash only, but they do have an ATM. We will definitely make a point to stop in on our next trip to Pitt.
It's been 20+ years since my last visit to the Pretzel Shop. This is a true South Side staple. I'm not typically in the area during the week early, but I took advantage of being nearby. I stopped in around 8am on a Friday morning. I bought a half dozen pretzels for $4.80 (cash only) and was on my way. I remember working daylight in the Southside back in 2002 and would stop here regularly for lunch. This is a staple you want to visit. The pretzel's still outstanding after all these years. Glad I was able to make a quick visit happen.
Great spot for a hot fresh pretzel at an amazing price! You can even go around back to see the prep process, a fun drop in if hosting tourists in Pittsburgh or just exploring the Southside. Pretzels themselves are yummy, you can taste the freshness! They are a bit "healthier" in taste than I normally go for (I've got a bit of a butter addiction) so not my favorite soft pretzel but absolutely worth the stop in!

I was a bit disappointed the pretzels where cold and where not really soft. I thought they had a weird taste to them and for all the hype I herd I was very disappointed. The store only takes cash which is a bit of a downer as i like using a credit card. The price for a pretzel was very reasonable at 80 cents each. I have to say they do not hold a torch to Philly Pretzel Factory. I have to say I would not go again for any reason as they just where not good. The staff where friendly and helpful. I am sorry to say i would not recommend this shop to any one. I generally would give one star but the service was good and the staff where friendly so I will give it 2 stars.
This place is amazing! It is a pretty dense pretzel. I got the Buffalo chicken sandwich on a Thursday for $4.50. It was so worth it! Came with lettuce and tomato. I'm sure the service is great, a friend picked up my order. The place is nice and offers a lot of variety. It's good price and pretty good food.
The Pretzel Shop is a South Side staple and a must-visit for both locals and tourists. It's one of those places I walked past everyday for years and regrettably never tried until recently. These are some of the best, heartiest soft pretzels in Pittsburgh. What I enjoy even more are their warm sandwiches. They're so delicious and prices are very affordable - one of my favorite lunch spots in the area.
Wow! I grew up with a pretzel shop down the street but this place is so much better. Wonderful service and what a history. If you love pretzels then you must stop here. The pretzels are so good! When I am in the area I will stop in to stock up. Highly recommend this place. So friendly and helpful.

Found this place while walking down Carson St. Everything pretzels (whole, sticks, nuggets and more) plus they have a display of cookies, brownies, and muffins. Bought three whole pretzels and three sticks. Not a fan of these as a they are very bland. Have had many homemade pretzels that taste better. Hubby and friend loved their pretzels from here. Two glass front cases filled with goodies and a wall of pretzels behind the ordering desk. Two windows with standing-height tables for eating while people watching. I got a Chicken Parmesan Roll (5/5), Garlic Pretzel (3/5), Tomato Basil Pretzel (4/5), and six normal pretzels (3/5). The Parmesan roll was great and a good amount of food, especially for just $4. However, the pretzels themselves were pretty disappointing but ok; I couldn't tell the difference between them and microwave pretzels (e.g., super pretzel from when I was a kid). The tomato basil pretzel was a big better with the toppings. Overall, I would get rolls and topped pretzels but pass on the plain or lightly seasoned ones. The service was good and quick (4/5), but they are cash only. They do have an ATM if needed. The interior has a small standing area and is reasonably nice. read more

Probably my favorite place to stop anytime I am down the south side! Their soft pretzels are my #1 favorite, especially when you can buy it and eat it right away. We also love to order their breakfast sandwiches. read more

Wow! I grew up with a pretzel shop down the street but this place is so much better. Wonderful service and what a history. If you love pretzels then you must stop here. The pretzels are so good! The Pretzel Shop in South Side tastes like my childhood. The pretzels are still baked in a wood fire oven in the back of the property in small batches and there is always a line of customers. Make sure to have cash. Great to take to the park for a snack, as there is no indoor dining. read more

I stopped over here for lunch first before attending a YELP event here. The business is strictly take out and cash only. They do have an ATM on the premises. Since I hadn't had lunch yet I wanted to grab one of their pretzel sandwiches and then grab the goodies from the event to take home with me. I had previously looked over the menu online and was hoping to get their Barbecue chicken pretzel sandwich since it was listed as a special. Well, that item is off the menu. Anyway the counter lady offered me grilled chicken instead so I had that with all the fixings and some honey mustard that they use for dipping sauce for the pretzels. It's amazing that my sandwich was just under $5.00! A first for me in scoring something that cheap. Got a chocolate chip cookie for dessert. Cookies are regular sized. Nothing fancy about them but they do have a nice selection. Pretzels here are reasonably priced and you can get different toppings for them such as cinnamon and of course different sauces. You can even get pretzel rolls filled with such things like pepperoni. They even make a hummus pretzel now if you aren't into meat. Pretzels are marked as vegan so that good to know. They sell bottled beverages in a refrigerator on one side and Tee shirt on the other. They have various baked goods ranging from cookies to other desserts. They even serve breakfast sandwiches here. I asked if I could eat my sandwich towards the back of the store since I didn't feel like dragging my goodies 5 blocks away and was told I could. I stood by the condiment section which had plenty of napkins. I must admit the chicken was a decent size and so tasty too and of course messy! The pretzel seemed to lack flavor which is where the dipping sauces might have helped but I enjoyed the honey mustard that I ordered with the sandwich. The pretzel isn't overly salted either. Nevertheless it made for quick a filling lunch! As others have mentioned the pretzels were not hot but they were still soft to enjoy as a sandwich. They do catering here and have a special menu for that. I noticed they now have a strawberry pretzel jello here along with some salads. Their baked goods are made in house. I did have a chocolate chip cookie for dessert and must say it was very good and quite fresh. It was indeed worth a visit here if you are in the neighborhood. Located on E Carson St near the Birmingham bridge, metered street parking is available. read more

Great value and quality of food. Pretzels are just 80 cents before tax and add-ons like the cheese and mustard dips. This shop is currently cash only. They also offer additional menu items, and the pepperoni roll did not disappoint. They also have pastries, pizzas and other savory items. Stop by next time you're in the southside! read more

You cannot get any better than the one, the only, The Pretzel Shop. TPS is always one of my go-to stops when I'm in Pittsburgh. They have everything from regular pretzels to pretzel bites to a variety of sandwiches. The sandwiches vary from a hot dog pretzel to a club chicken pretzel sandwich to an open-faced pepperoni bagel. They also offer different cookies as well. They also just started offering larger sandwiches like hoagies. Around the holidays you can't go wrong with their specials, like a bunny pretzel for Easter or a large, cakey, iced New Years pretzel. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. And the shop is cash only, but has an on-site ATM if needed. Be sure to add TPS to your to do list for this weekend! read more

It doesn't matter what time of day it is because everything is soooo delicious here. From pretzel sandwiches loaded with ham & cheese to pizza pretzels to sausage sandwich pretzels. Or to tickle your sweet tooth they have cookies to gobs. Make sure you grab a cold drink from the cooler. read more

I was in Southside for the first time in a while recently and was glad to see The Pretzel Shop was still open! I haven't been there since college. It was very busy on a Saturday afternoon. We walked in and were very rushed when we were asked what we wanted to order. When we remembered it was cash only we realized we only had a couple dollars. The workers kept asking what we wanted, but we were still deciding. It was very stressful lol. My boyfriend ordered a cinnamon sugar pretzel, and I got the little salted pretzel bites (12). I ordered a side of honey mustard for the pretzel bites, and he ordered a side of icing to dip the cinnamon pretzel in. Our total was only $4.50! The pretzels are still super cheap and delicious. They brought back memories as soon as we tried them. Next time I will look at the menu before going so I don't feel rushed into ordering. The workers were very friendly once we ordered, they were just trying to move people through the line quickly. read more
Pretty good I must say. Was SUPER craving fresh soft pretzels at work so I gave this place a try with delivery from grubhub. I ordered the traditional, tomato Basil, cinn and sugar and garlic parmesan. All the flavors were really good. The cinnamon and sugar was sooo filled with flavor and left my fingers looking like I just had a sticky bun. The tomato Basil was my favorite because there was so much cheese on it. The only negative was the ranch dip I had which was severely over salted. Besides that place is definitely getting my money again sometime soon! read more
