For an oyster lover, when I paid literally $70 for a dozen of nice sized oysters... I was kind of taken aback ( I've dined at 5-star restaurants that don't charge nearly this much... a dozen of top of the line oysters normally run between $48-$56 ) On the other hand, the crab cake and fries hit the spot. The highlight of the meal was actually the fries ( delicious ) The service at the Cowbell was friendly and accommodating for sure... just not sure if doing anything outside of the platters makes financial sense. Union Market has a very vibrant atmosphere and the Cowbell lends its own unique taste to the overall ambiance.

Reporting live from this dumpster fire of a place because that's how pissed I am…read more This is a "wait until the waiter comes and takes your order" kind of place, and that's fine. Our waiter was...not great. His demeanor was cool, but that's was the only positive. We ordered a soft shell crab po boy, a catfish platter, and 3 waters. I asked for a side salad instead of the coleslaw. For the other entree, we added a side salad as well. Took about 8 mins for the food to come out so that was cool. The first thing we noticed was the salad. Go look at the pictures. This isn't something that should be served to humans...maybe a rabbit would eat it. The server walked about 3 feet away and was talking to someone else. Took his time coming back when I gave him the nod but whatever. Told him that the salad was atrocious and shouldn't be served to patrons. He was indifferent, but asked if we wanted anything else. I asked for the baked beans, and she asked for fries. I also asked for hot sauce. After some time, he brought the pitiful kids sized sample of hot sauce. I then asked for ketchup. Bout 10 minutes goes by. We're watching our server and he's meandering around, behind the bar talking. Cool. I go and stand at the countertop hoping someone will come over and give me the ketchup. Nope, nothing. I see our server talk to one lady, she shakes her head. Then the lady talks to another dude. He then shakes his head. I'm still standing there, no one comes over. I walked away. Dude came back with a new set of fries and ketchup on that, but no hot sauce, no baked beans, no ketchup. At this point I'm completely through. My lady went and talked to the male about the salad, and he agreed that it shouldn't have come out at all. She asked if something could be done to adjust the bill, he said okay and walked away. He comes over with a new receipt and he removed the side salad. She started talking to him about the charges and when he started responding in a manner that let me know he wasn't going to back down and would continue to argue, I just said thanks and signed the receipt. The initial bill was 74.82. After adjustment it was 68.88. Neither of these prices were worth paying. Save your money folks, there's a reason this place only has 3 stars. Oh, the catfish and the bottled water were good, but that's it.

They have an all day Happy Hour, which was heavent sent food wise & great prices. The ambiance is pretty chicken but not pretentious. Beautiful artwork by the owner's friend. All the food items were bursting with flavor & seasoned properly. I ordered the tuna tartare on crispy rice. It was so yummy with a tang spice of what I believe to be in horseradish or wasabe sauce with avocado. The other dishes were shared amongst us, which were the mussels, hummus with naan bread, & Yakitori (chicken skewers). I did not try the Yakitori chicken, but the hummus with naan bread was lovely too. The mussels were perfectly cooked and came with a reduced wine wine sauce with garlic, morita pepper, & chili oil. The Margaritas stole the show. I ordered both the Daiquiri and the Margarita. Both were amazing but the Margarita was hard to put down. The waiter was a kind young man & even gave us a palate cleanser/ sorbet at the end. I will certainly return again. DC Restaurant Week at Oribu…read more I went to Oribu for DC Restaurant Week and, overall, the food was pretty underwhelming for me. Here's how I'd rate each course: Oribu Sushi Roll -- 6/10 It was fine, but honestly tasted like any other sushi roll. Nothing particularly memorable. Crab Spaghettini -- 3/10 This was my least favorite. It had very little flavor, and I didn't enjoy the sauce, which is made with seafood oil. I barely ate it. Matcha Ice Cream -- 4/10 The ice cream is vegan. I expected it to be sweeter, especially with the date syrup, but it wasn't as sweet as I thought it would be. Momo Hana Spritz -- 8/10 The highlight of the meal! Very good, sweet, and probably my favorite thing I had. Overall: The drink was definitely the standout for me. Unfortunately, the food didn't leave much of an impression, and I probably wouldn't go back just for the Restaurant Week menu.

We chose this restaurant to try for restaurant week for that very reason, because it is their very first time participating in restaurant week as they are new so this puts them to the real test. For starters, the restaurant is beautiful and inviting. The staff uniforms remind and make you feel like you are in Japan. I was told their fish is flown in every few days. Here are my thoughts: For restaurant week, the Oribu roll and scallop roll were nothing special. I have honestly had better sushi rolls but we thought choosing this as our first course was smart in order to try their fish but I think their rolls are a little heavy on the rice. The 2nd entrees we enjoyed a lot. The crab spaghettini and miso glazed black cod are items you can find at some other restaurants but they present these dishes well. I have had the miso cod from Nobu and I really think Oribu's is so much better. For dessert, we got the pb&j and the silk road cacao. The pb&j was the agreed favorite. The silk road cacao was good too but it is quite bitter chocolate with alcohol infused. Also to note- the restaurant kindly gave us full portions to try for our dinner which was very appreciated. All our plates were HUGE including dessert. If I were to return it would be for their entrees, but seeing the prices as comparison to what we paid for restaurant week it might seem a little steep still for what we ordered.

They make for a great appetizer to share with a group of 2-4 people or a perfect small meal if you're not looking for something heavy. Highly recommend giving them a try. Espresso Express - This is an interesting and creative take on an espresso martini. Instead of vodka, they use reposado tequila, which adds a richer and more complex flavor profile. The result is an outstanding cocktail and probably one of the top five espresso-based drinks I've ever had. Without question, this was the highlight of the meal for me. Busy - We arrived around 6:00 PM on a Saturday night during the summer and were pleasantly surprised to walk in and find seating for our group of eight. The restaurant was bustling with people coming and going throughout the evening, but the space is much larger than it appears from the outside, allowing it to handle the crowd well. Pro Tip: If you're on a date or hoping for an easier conversation, ask for seating in the side dining area. It is noticeably quieter than the main dining room and outdoor seating areas. Pro Tip: Don't judge the size of the restaurant from the exterior. The inside is surprisingly spacious and can accommodate larger groups better than you might expect.
