Date night at The Plot was surprisingly good. I'm not a vegetarian or vegan, I'm definitely a carnivore. I was a little skeptical about how our experience would go but that was just foolishness! Together we shared a couple of starters including the Scallops, the Burrata and Pear and the Panko Crusted Eggplant. All were outstanding and deeply flavorful. We also shared the Sweet Potato Gnocchi and again it was a fantastic blend of flavors and textures. We ended with the Orange Creme Brûlée and the Olive Oil Cake, both were memorable and left us wanting to take some home. We both left feeling full and very satisfied. I am not vegan but work nearby and wanted to try the food. I ordered the O'side Crust Wrap and fries and really enjoyed my food! The wrap is a vegan version of the Taco Bell crunch wrap and I might prefer this over Taco Bell's! It's very fresh and flavorful. The Fries were a great mix or crispy and soft and came with what tasted like a beet sauce which was also really good! Never expected to like the combo but I definitely recommend it! Staff is really nice and helpful! I think Austin was the person that took my order, He was very speedy and nice! The place is also really cool! There's plants everywhere even a couple plant stands for sale. They have seating inside and outside with plenty of shade! Very sustainable! Definitely recommend even if you aren't vegan! read more

I've now been to the Plot many many times. We've had a lot of their food- both from the brunch and dinner menu. My daughter always gets the waffle no matter what time of day we go. I love their biscuits and sausage off the brunch menu but also have enjoyed their salads, vegan sushi (chronic roll is my fav), pancakes, chicken and waffles, and their beet Sando. My only critique is I think their food is overly salted. I wish they would tone it done a notch. Other than that, I appreciate this local all vegan eatery with a no food waste theme. Service has always been friendly and there is both indoor and outdoor seating. This makes for a great date night or just a night out among friends. I've also been lucky enough to have my good friend host a baby shower for me here. I do enjoy this place quite a bit. I would love less salt though! read more

The Plot is a beautiful, upscale vegan restaurant in Oceanside and is a great spot for a fancier plant-based meal. I enjoyed their Korean BBQ Chicken, which was made with seitan, a great alternative to chicken as it had a very similar texture. I loved the flavor of the sauce, which it could've used more of. The Plot is an amazing vegan spot in Oceanside! This was not our first time here, but we haven't shared a review yet.. Today our family shared the carrot fish tacos- easily a favorite! The pickled veggies and breading on the carrot is a perfect tangy & crunchy combination. We also shared the Primavera salad with super fresh veggies from their garden and local sources. Oh and I forgot about the delicious truffle fries we shared as an app!! Definitely a must try. We ordered too much food, but it worked out perfectly because we took it home to go. My father in law loved his reuben sandwich. My husband ordered a cubano sandwich that we ended up taking home and eating for dinner since we were so full from lunch! My mother-in-law enjoyed the Korean bbq bowl as well- not sure if it was tofu but the char was so good. Lastly, need to mention the great service. We were so fortunate to see Israel taking photos of the meatless loaf & when we commented how amazing it looked, he offered us to try it! So nice!! Our hostess was the owner and she was very kind! (Almost) everything is so good! - Farmer's market veggies (seasonal) (5/5): some sort of asian choy charred on a bed of some creamy delicious sauce and topped chili oil and lentil caviar. Mmm so good. - Chronic (sushi roll) (5/5): crunchy, a lil spicy, salty, a lil sweet- such a great mix of flavors. Really elevates the vegan sushi game. - Biscuits & gravy (3/5): the fried "chicken" was breaded perfectly and very delicious with the gravy. It did feel like there wasn't enough gravy though because it was carrying the flavor for the "chicken" and the biscuits were a little too dense and dry. - Polenta & chorizo (5/5): This was so good with the broccolini perfectly charred, the polenta so creamy, the chili oil adding some fusion. Our sister-in-law is vegan, and she found The Plot. I looked at the menu and knew it would be acceptable to my non-vegan family. It was more than that, it was fantastic! We sat outside, where we now know we could have brought our pooch, and had drinks and appetizers before dinner. While our teenage son was skeptical, he enjoyed the Devil Cräb Fritter and split the fries with us, while the rest of us split the Chronic Süshi Roll, panko eggplant, and bean tartine. They also served us a free süshi appetizer, which was unexpected! We all enjoyed Shepherds Pie, Sweet Potato Gnocchi, Meatless Loaf, Chïcken and Cornbread, and the farmer's Salad. This place is fully plant based. So if you have a friend who is like a serious meat lover and don't like plant based meat. DO NOT BRING THEM HERE. That said the food is very good for plant based food. There is a lot of space for sitting and it gives me a very open feel with great vibes. Music played was very soothing and I love the vibes here. There are benches lining the wall with cushions and its generally a very homey kind of feel. Loved how relaxing it was. I got a spam kimchi bowl and my husband got the hot chicken sandwich which essentially is fried tofu sandwiched between two pieces of very nicely baked bread. I sneaked a couple of mouthfuls and I can tell you that is a delicious sandwich. But my husband didn't like it one bit. He is a 100% meat kind of person. Even chicken barely cuts it for him. So.... that said, I found it wonderfully crispy and delicious for a tofu burger. My spam kimchi bowl is wonderfully tasty. It's not the kimchi in the traditional sense but it is very good. It's more like sauerkraut without the spice. And the 'spam' is actually beet spam and again, the texture is pretty close to musubi. I'm going to say I love the textures dancing in my mouth when I ate this. Crunchy and yummy. Just the right taste. I had a nice almond blossom with sake. The almond syrup is not very strong just lightly dancing on the tongue. It's a very relaxing drink. Love it. However one point to note is that the parking to this place is very hard to get to. After we were seated, we were told that the parking to this place is behind the building. We circled the building twice before we gave up and parked at the front. Unfortunately despite it being so good, we probably won't be coming back. Not because it's not good. But because the hubs won't eat plant based food. Will probably bring other friends who are vegans back here. Loved it and can't praise it enough. Edit: I forgot to add it originally. It would be nice if the menu had mentioned plantbased chicken instead of just chicken. Less confusing for the first timers who come into the restaurant to eat. read more

This is another one of my favorite vegan restaurants in San Diego County. This unique Oceanside restaurant is always a great dining experience. The food is so delicious and imaginative - but it's also nourishing and completely satisfying. We have come to The Plot for a couple special occasions, and the service has been consistently excellent. I am not Vegan but went here for a friend. It's wonderful! First the setting is modern and fun, they grow their own veggies in their gardens. The service was excellent in helping us decide what to get. They gave our group a complimentary appetizer of greens, kumquat, and watermelon radish. Then we all shared a few orders of the sushi, which was crispy and served warm. Do not know the ingredients but it was delicious. My husband got the seasonal eggplant parm, which was very tasty. Others got seasonal risotto, and sweet potato gnocchi. I had the vegan meatloaf and two others had chicken and biscuits. My meatloaf, made of lentils was good, but not amazing. I think the large piece should have been cut into two slices with more sauce. It came with delicious crispy rosemary potatoes and green beans. The chicken and biscuits was good but I felt needed more seasoning. Maybe sage or celery seed and pepper. A few had the chocolate mousse and keylime pie. They were light and creamy. Overall a fantastic experience. My husband and I are not exclusively vegan but we do crave vegan dishes often. He's also a local chef at a fine dining restaurant and I'm a foodie, so we are quite picky. I love that this restaurant is not trying to fake a bunch of meat dishes. They are simply highlighting the beauty of vegetables and wholesome ingredients. We got: * gnocchi * cauliflower kimchi * squash cake * risotto * key lime pie and banana cake Every dish was amazing. The flavor profiles were tight and complementary, offering a new taste with classic dishes. I lived in San Francisco most of my adult life, and there were some delicious veggie fares everywhere. This restaurant gives me faith in the food scene in sd- definitely top of my list here. Now, the food: The sweet potato gnocchi had an amazing flavor, i've never had anything like it. Sweet and buttery with equal part classic gnocchi texture with a very subtle crispness to it. I'm going back just for this dish. The cauliflower was cooked to perfection with a delicious side of kimchi (their version of it at least). The squashcake with accoutrements was fresh and vibrant. The risotto was good but not at level other dishes were, in our opinion. We had really hoped for something magical with the peas and asparagus but we didn't get the taste of those veggies in the risotto itself. Perhaps infuse the broth with a pea pod or make a pea puree? The taste of the risotto was good just would have loved marrying the veggie with the rice a bit more. The portion size was huge, so if you are hungry, get this dish. Dessert was banana bread and key lime. The banana bread was out of this world. It was garnished with sage (and another herb), which as it turns out, is an amazing pairing. I will never want banana bread alone again after that flavor combo. Also, fresh herbs just make the world a brighter place. Key lime was fresh and light. The crumble was delicious. We also got the homemade soda. I got the ginger ale and he got the 9-up? Flavors were on the lighter side, would have loved a tad more flavor, but that's likely just personal preference. The ginger ale soda was so lovely on a hot summer evening. Service was fantastic. Our lady server was bright and friendly. The atmosphere was trendy, romantic and cozy (we sat outside). Music choice was perfect (who doesn't love thievery corporation playing in the background). I'm so impressed by this restaurant. Definitely coming back. read more

It's really difficult to find vegan restaurants! So I was delighted to stumble upon the Plot in Oceanside. I went there with 2 friends and we loved what we ordered! One friend had the carrotfish tacos and the other had the patty melt with a side of fries. I had the eggplant katsu sando: YUM!! The portions were generous and delicious. I'm not vegan but I do love some good vegan food! I don't make the trip up to north county often, but I'm so glad that I stopped by the plot for lunch. I got a fried "chicken" sandwich that was tofu. If you've ever had stinky tofu it's that consistency, plus pickled vegetables. But the potato salad - best I've ever had. Portions are a bit small, but the prices are cheaper to reflect that. Staff were very friendly and accommodating to my food allergies. I also love the sustainability of the restaurant, they have a beautiful outdoor patio area in the midst of a garden. I saw them pick vegetables, so I think they do use the food they plant. There were quite a few flies outside for this reason, but I understand that it is a garden. Would definitely come back! I'll preface this by saying I'm personally not vegan, but The Plot is easily one of my favorite restaurants. The menu is pretty concise, but everything on it is VERY well planned and executed. It also occassionally rotates because almost everything is produced locally, and you can really taste it. Their drink menu however is rather large, which is impressive considering everything I've tried so far has been home run. Their servers are excellent, and there's hardly ever a wait whenever I go, also makes it a very quiet/comfortable place. Give it a try, you're not going to regret it. Get the KBBQ Chicken or the Shroom Toast. read more
