One of my favorite place to grab a drink for happy hour and a bite to eat

The Orange Lantern is an original. I doubt I will find a better establishment in NJ, and beyond. If you're a "regular" they know you, they greet you and much of the time they have your drink waiting for you. It is a shame that some people have difficulty handling themselves in public. The OL staff is top notch, for them to be off their game is unheard of. I hope that certain reviews published are looked upon with a mountain of salt. As perhaps they have been published a slight bit under the influence. Thank you to the OL and staff for making St. Patrick's day great, despite some unexpected, unwanted, and unwelcome happenings. read more

My father & his friends introduced me to this bar & I have been there numerous times since. If you enjoy live bands than this is the spot to be on the weekends. I've enjoyed a few Friday nights drinking some cold ones while taking in a local band. The atmosphere during a performance is great & everyone who is there enjoys the show. If you go during the week, they have plenty of tv's around the bar with different games on. The staff is friendly & quick to get you your drink order. Their bar food is also very good & I highly recommend their buffalo wings. In all, a solid bar to go with a group of friends. read more

It is with such sorrow to write this review. I have been going to the Orange Lantern (OL) for 35+ years. I haven't been there in the last 2 years. My girls and I went recently to see a really good band. We ordered food and drinks. After a few titos and club my best friend asked me "do you taste anything but club soda"? I thought the same thing. I asked the bartender if he could add a little more. BOY, what an attitude! He made an identical drink and practically threw it at me. When I shared this experience with a friend the next day she informed me that when it recently happened to her, the bartender snarkly told her that "they were not regulars" I guess the "regulars" get stronger drinks! Drinks are good, food is ok. Had the burger and fries and it tasted like it was fresh off the barbecue except the bun. It was toasted to a hard flat consistency. Other than that it's a nice local fun place read more

Ok here's the deal. The "OL" has been a part of my life for years growing up in the surrounding areas. I went here for many 21st birthday parties, going away beers, end of summer beers, etc. Some things never change, and this place, the decor, the bartenders, the cheesy cover bands where you can guess their entire set list, needs to be included on that list. Karaoke DJ on Wednesday nights must be REALLY lazy as he plays full songs in between each singer which makes the wait time UNBEARABLE. How can he NOT see that tons of people are waiting to sing? People come to karaoke to SING, not to listen to music in between songs. Big thumbs down. They really need to have a word with the DJ. Terrible place as of 2017. I'm from NY and they would not accept a NY Interim Drivers License from the NYS DMV as a form of ID. Nor did they accept a college ID with my photo, nor 3 credit cards in my wallet. I'm 28 years old. I do not look like I'm 20 years old or younger. The bouncer who's been working there for less years I've been the legal drinking age was beyond ignorant to know what any other form of ID is that's not a NJ drivers license. Pat the bartender was just as incompetent, especially for somebody who has seen me as a loyal customer over 5 years ago as a NJ resident, as he declined the 5 forms of identification, all legitimate with company, state, and national seals. A disgraceful bar for sure. I will be sure to spread the news of the unprofessional display portrayed at this mediocre establishment. read more

When we first walked in we were a little concerned. It's a small dive like bar. We were pleasantly surprised. While the service was slow everyone who we dealt with was very polite and attentive. I had a Philly cheese steak and my wife had the Cheddar Horseradish burger. Both were delicious! Very reasonably priced. Bonus points for having two live bands! Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! I haven't had the pleasure of visiting recently but I have very fond memories of coming to this establishment over the last 15 years. I'm rating this place under my "Dive Bar" criteria because comparing it to the Cornerstone or Fire and Oak and then giving it two stars or less is something only an idiot would do. This establishment excels at being what it strives to be and that is what my rating is based on. The food is better than average pub fare, but nothing to write home about. The prices are fair. The beer selection is adequate. The atmosphere is fun and friendly. This is a great place to get bent while watching a game. If that's what you're looking for this is the place for you. If you're some prissy Northern Bergen County-raised self-entitled Zagat ratings reader then don't even bother coming here. You won't be impressed and no one who hangs out here wants your perfumed stench, overpriced clothes or painful facial expressions lingering near them anyway. read more

Used to frequent this place when I worked a few blocks away on Rte 17. Since I moved to Essex County haven't been by much, but I always preferred them for lunch. Maybe its the older fuddy duddy in me who now prefers the pub and hearing your friends chat, but I have many a special memory of this establishment! Can't say enough nice things about Kim and Brenda! I have been there 3 times and if you need a place to go to hear overly loud music from mostly garage bands who still think they are playing in there friends basement then this is the place for you. I saw only one band that was so much better then all the rest this Friday past Phoenix I got their card these guys were great not to loud and you could hear the person talking next to you and the music is what I am rocking to on my Rockband and Guitar Hero games classic rock is in! And their music is right on the money not to mention I met Les Paul Jr who is a friend of the band and that was really cool. OL is not a place to go to enjoy yourself I have found but, as Meat Loaf says one time out of 3 ain't bad only going back if this band is playing will steer clear if they aren't oh yeah five o hangs in the parking lot across the street so don't drink and drive it isn't worth it. read more

I wanted to find a local sports bar to watch Monday Night Football and have some dinner while on the road. This was a decent place with a fair beer selection and average food menu. I had the Horseradish and Cheddar burger that was just OK. It certainly was not bad, but it wasn't memorable. Perhaps the live music nights would be better. read more

I love coming here for football sundays. The staff is very friendly and attentive (they will remember you if you come back), the drink/food specials are awesome, and you can always find a seat in front of one of the big screens/projector. This spot is pretty good if you want a low key night out too. They have some pretty good contests/giveaways. read more

My friends and I loved coming here for karaoke. Never had a problem until last week. One of my friends doesn't have a license or a state id. He carries around his birth certificate. The Orange Lantern has accepted his birth certificate as id before. Last week they said they weren't doing to accept it. It's a valid, proper form of id. It was the only form of id he had on him. We walked out angry. Not sure if we will be going back. Very frustrating. read more

Beer towers!!! Beer towers!!!! Pizza!!!! Cheap cheap cheap!!!! Value!!!? I love this place. 100 ounces of Sam Adams for 20 bucks!!! Pizza that is excellent and live music. Just one recommendation... Some new decor would be nice. Parking at the fashion center is very helpful considering the lot is small here. Waitstaff is good and there are some cool dart boards in the bar. Fun bar with an eclectic mix of people. It's a good casual place to go for a few drinks. Prices are a little on the high side for drinks and food is reasonable and quite tasty. Servers are mixed, most of the younger girls are slow with the service. Bartenders are pretty good. Definitley no freebies though and I go there often which is pretty lame. read more

Came into the Orange Lantern right after Superbowl XLVIII, with my 91 year old dad. Yelp have a great rating and came in around 12:30am Sunday. OUTSTANDING local bar with OUTSTANDING locals! Food was excellent especially when we got in late and they accommodated us even when we got in so late! RB sliders were very good. We were from Seattle and the locals each congratulated us on the win. Food and conversation was a fantastic way to end a Superbowl game. I HIGHLY recommend going there. Locals were vwey nice ro my dad who truly enjoyed the young crowd. He felt respected and there were 3 locals that we spoke to all night. You all were great and I hope to make it back! Didn't know about OL until a fellow Yelp Elite Becca hosted her send-off partay here. It was Wednesday night, which is the karaoke night. My first experience of karaoke at a bar was definitely a memorable one. Sang the good old "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey while I still had some bits of onion rings stuck in between my teeth lol. The crowd was really mixed-age. Price is very reasonable and I definitely recommend the beer-battered onion rings. They're open until 3am and there are plenty of parking. read more

We love the OL! The bartenders are very nice and attentive. I love their wings, buffalo chicken wrap, and pizza. At night the atmosphere is interesting, a very mixed crowd. They usually have live music fri & sat, they have trivia during the week, dart boards, and random events & specials. When it's 2 am and most of the area bars have closed, and you don't feel like hiking up to cross the border, someone invariably says, full of resignation, "oh, well." Then you realize that what they said was, in fact, "O. L.," though still with resignation. And you head down here like everybody else to try to scrape something out of the end of your night, knowing you'll be on the road to Pearl River or Suffern in an hour, because no night at the OL ever ends with any kind of satisfaction. read more

Historic local spot, friendly and attentive staff, and great food -- what more could you ask for! Their pizza is in my top three best pies for Bergen County. I recently had their veggie pizza -- peppers, onions, basil, balsamic drizzle -- and it was delicious! It's all in the crust, and theirs has the perfect crisp. The beer was room temp tasted sour. The food was still cold and not fresh. The service was horrible. An hour after I got home I was pooping my brains out. I haven't really eaten here before (although they do have really good crinkle cut fries) and have really only gone for drinks. You can't beat the $15 beer tower, but even the prices for bottles/drafts are very reasonable too. Very much of a dive bar, but that's what makes it so great. If you go there during the week it is pretty empty, but on the weekends it ranges from comfortably busy to packed. Always a variety of people. They have great live music on the weekends! TOTAL DIVE BAR - but fun! They have lanterns of beer for $20 (probably comes our to $2-$3 a beer) Their bar food is actually pretty good. Good place to just go and hang out for football or a low key night. They often have bands playing and depending if the band is any good... it can get pretty packed. read more

Very Fun Place! Came here on a Saturday night to meet up with friends and did not know what to expect. I always thought the OL was some kind of "biker bar" where motorcycle dudes hung out and drank beer. I did not see one biker on this Saturday night! LOL... So I met up with some friends and to my surprise the small place on the outside had a VERY LARGE BAR on the inside! There was a video DJ that played a great mix of music, with the video screen that showed music videos! There was enough room to dance and move around and catch up with friends. This was the first time I had ever seen a "Beer Bong." Very interesting! The thing that turned me off about this bar were the bartenders not being up to speed on what they were charging for a glass of wine. They did not have bottles of wine, however they did have those little bottles like you get on the airplane. So I asked for a Chardonnay Spritzer... I was told that they did not have Chardonnay so I had her make it with Pinot Grigio. She took out the little wine bottle poured most of the bottle into the glass and added club soda- the left over from the bottle she left on the bar for me to finish. The next bartender came along and I ordered my next... now she took the little bottle of wine, only poured not even 1/2 of the bottle into the glass and filled the rest with club soda. She then told me that she would hold the rest of the bottle for my next one... so i figured when I was ready she'd just pour me another "weak spritzer" but she charged me again!
