Karaoke Wednesdays are where it's at. They're making me into a regular with this shiz. Not the the most glamorous of places, but the bartenders are friendly and attentive. Prices are reasonable, i.e. $4.50 for a Sam Adam's Rebel Grapefruit IPA on draft. $6 for a large salad with unlimited toppings, yum. Two dart boards! I believe they have bands play on the weekends as well. Usually a mixed bag of attendees, you'll find people from all age groups. Look out for the Bud Light girls that come around giving out free beers, cozys and fanny packs. You heard that right - fanny packs. Conveniently located right off of route 17 on the border of Ridgewood/Paramus. (Still dreading the day I run into someone from high school.) It's always a good time at the OL. read more

Ahh The Orange Lantern aka the OL I have been coming here for quite some time now and I must say it is easily the go to spot for my friends and I. Located rite off of rt 17 and next to the fashion center its a great place to come and hang with friends or watch a game. The food here is pretty good too especially their chicken fingers and sweet potato fries and you can't forget the wings. They have everything from pizza, quesadillas, fries, mozzarella sticks, popcorn chicken (your average bar food) and everything is reasonably priced and tasty. I wouldn't necessarily come here just to eat I come here more for a buzz and a light snack to soak up the liquor. The bartenders are awesome, really friendly and fast making it super easy to get a drink here. There is plenty of entertainment that goes on here throughout the week such as trivia night, karaoke night, not to mention they have live bands come and play from time to time and that always draws in the most interesting people I have ever seen. The scene here is very laid back and casual which I like. They also have a dart board in the back which is fun for a quick game. Overall this bar is filled with locals and if you are not trying to see your entire graduating class this bar may not be the place for you but if you are looking for a good time, a buzz and some good bar food well my dear look no further! read more

I come here all the time. This is my favorite bar conveniently located only a couple of miles from me in my home town. The OL is a bar mostly frequented by locals. They have live music all the time, trivia nights, poker nights, DJ nights, etc etc. There's a dart board and some other games. It's just one big bar with a bunch of TV's so good for sports nights. The best thing about this place are the bartenders. They're all very nice and always fast. It's very easy to get a drink here. Prices are ok but I wouldn't say it's a cheap bar. As for the food, it's pretty good but I don't come here for a sit down dinner. I come here to get drunk and eat a little bar food. The wings are the best, in my opinion. They give you the option of breading or no breading which I like (naked ftw). Chicken fingers, popcorn chicken, fries, pizza, mozzarella sticks, quesadillas, nachos etc are all pretty standard as far as bar food goes. Overall, this is a great local hang out for Paramus people and a fun place to get drunk on the weekdays and weekends. read more

Stopped by for trivia and drinks, having driven by quite often I always overlooked this spot. Staff was friendly comfortable environment and not too loud. Drinks were good with quick service food looked good so maybe next time can try that out. They have a lot of events scheduled so there is always something going on. I like this place a lot. Typical dive bar with a good crowd. I like ordering the Beer Tower when we're with a large group of people. Great place to invite a bunch of friends out. They have karaoke on Wednesday nights and the place is surprisingly popping for a weekday. I tried their Mozzarella Sticks and French Fries. They both were OK nothing to rave about. Most likely frozen, but this place isn't meant for food, it's meant for having fun drinking. The service is consistently great. read more

You're standard run of the mill tavern. Pretty old crowd but I think the place has been around for a long time so they have some veteran regulars. Everyone seemed in their 40s or so. They have a decent happy hour. I mean anywhere you can walk out having drank 6 beers only costing you $9 is def ok in my book. All the bartenders were polite and checked in regularly but not annoyingly. We just do haplened to go in on karaoke night.... if I tell you the speakers were loud, I'd be understating it. After 1-2 songs blasting the voices of the drunk, we closed out and just sat in the car and talked Bc it was impossible to think straight w that going on in th background and for a Wednesday/Thursday night, just not appropriate. The waitresses are definitely nice. They don't have a menu for what's on draft so you have to ask each time. I got the buffalo wings with the homemade lava sauce which was really good. The french onion soup is really warming and filling. The onion rings were meh. Main problem was when we were finally ready for the check (and exhausted), it took us asking over 3 times to get it. I never had food there, I went on a Friday night last September, to see Hybrid Cover band (really great band), and had a drink, I think it was coconut rum and coke. Bartender was a nice young women. The drink is the same as it would be at any other regular old bar, and the place is pretty dumpy looking. What I do love is that they have live music, they pick good bands too, and there is no cover. They definitely need to clean up the place to make it more appealing, it attracts a much older crowd. Just an average bar. read more

I'm a fancy girl, and I'm used to great NYC nightlife and fine dining. That said, I absolutely LOVE the Orange Lantern. The live music on Saturday nights is a blast - I've always hit on classic rock cover bands, not sure what else is offered, but they have always had good ones, and you can get as close up (or not) as you like to the little stage. The staff is super friendly and once you've been there a couple times and they know your face, they're a really nice crew. Attentive. It's extremely relaxed and I can dress up or dress down and no one cares - there's no staring you down over your outfit and handbag nonsense. There may be some good old-fashioned people-watching and humorous inebriates - it's all in good fun. Some of the gals drink, dance and "entertain" the crowd - nothing wrong with that and no one is judging! People are generally friendly and zero pressure. Drink, or don't. Dance, or don't. Joke with the vocalist, or don't. Just go, chill out and have some fun without thinking twice about if your hair is out of place - no one cares and people are friendly. The food could tolerate a little upgrade - I'd pay more for better quality - but it's fine for a late night nachos snack and no complaints on the beer or drinks. Rarely super-crowded, and I always manage to find a seat at the bar. Bands come out to the crowd between sets and you can say hello or give the drummer a high five. Decor is simple and the bathrooms - well, let's call them functional. But you never know who you will meet close up beyond that swinging door to the restroom area...there's that college fun feel to the place, even though most of us are well beyond those years. If you're a snob, don't go. If you're a picky, whiny gourmand, don't go. If you want to have a fun evening and leave behind your posh pain in the ass friends - don't miss it. read more

i just wanted to give a shout out to the ol staff for their patience and professionalism for enduring the party from hell on this past St. Patricks Day....special kudos to Kim who was serving these "people" that came in around 6pm and from that time wore out their welcome with belligerence, and no respect to the staff, other customers,or themselves...its redundant to trash "trash" but that is the most simplistic way of putting it. the service was good up until we ordered food. I ordered my sandwich before the rest of my party ordered their food by several minutes and yet my food managed to come out 25-30 minutes after there's. when I got my food it came in a wrap not a Kaiser roll as explicitly stated on their menu. The waitress refused to correct it. I did not want a wrap as I had had a wrap for the past 3 days. This is a typical sports bar with a dive bar kind of feel. I was here 15 years ago when I was in high school and it doesn't seem like much has changed. As long as your expectations are right (ie: don't expect a fancy place), this place seems its purpose and seemed pretty packed on Friday at 5pm. Its a fuckin dive. Its a late-night destination for drunkards in Bergen County. Its full of young 'uns that never moved out of their rich parents' houses in Paramus, Waldwick, Allendale, Hohokus, New Milford, Teaneck and Hackensack. There are a million dudes in here that know each other...from Bergen Catholic, Paramus Catholic and Christian Brothers Academy. I'm from St Peter's Prep, so I hate them all. I some how managed to make it to my (very) late 20's before making it to the Orange Lantern. Various friends have invited me over the years but for some reason I have never been. Until now. We were getting off 17 on the way to a bar a little further away, and decided "Hey, let's finally check out the Orange Lantern!" On the plus side I will say that there are the perfect number of bartenders constantly asking if they can refill a drink. Flirty, friendly. It was welcoming. Great local bar. Perfect place to come to close out the night. It's a great place to come to watch any football game. They have live music most weekends - which can sometimes be too loud and bring in a strange crowd. Some of the bass are a lot of fun and can really make the night. They also have trivia nights, karaoke, djs, acoustic, etc. They have a dart board. The bartenders and staff are all amazing and very friendly. The food is also really good. Townie Bar, Townie Bar, does whatever a Townie Bar does... If you were born/raised/dumped anywhere near Paramus, New Jersey, and still call the place your home, odds are your watering hole is this cozy little saloon located right by The Fireplace, a Fire House, and the Fashion Center. The bartenders feature Paramus High School's finest alumni, with occasional random older folks (I'm assuming are owners of some sort). Even if you're best friends with them, though, don't expect any comps or "friendly" discounts. What else can I say about the place? A slightly scaled-down version of "My New Haircut" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JMOh-cul6M) best fits its feel, but the patrons are not necessarily as stereotypical. As for the entertainment - there used to be karaoke on Wednesdays, which always has it's moments, but for the most part you should be prepared to expect some awful cover band or incomprehensible middle-aged rock band trying to live in the past. Also, it's an overabundance of sausage, so the girls that ARE there expect all of the extra attention. You won't meet your future wife here, but then again, Northern New Jersey is where the magic happens. Ugh. One of my old coworkers (when I was at Lord & Taylor) got thrown out of here Christmas Eve. Family owned the kitchen and bar never fail to impress me and my friends every time we come here. From the service to the food quality and quantity go hand in hand in this establishments day to day operations. The lighting in The Orange Lantern is really weird. Kind of reminds you of being at a concert before they turn the lights down. If you want to play darts, you better bring your own because the bartender told me that they didn't have any because theirs kept getting stolen. Three sets stolen this week alone. Why they're not doing anything to stop or discourage this dart theft, I don't know. I've never seen a bigger mix of people at one bar in my life - college kids, guidos, preppies, bikers, geeks, young, old, middle aged, etc. It has a total come as you are, all are welcome attitude. Everyone was very friendly. It kinda reminds you of being down south, upstate, or in the midwest somewhere. I have been a regular visitor for over 10+ years now, the place being close to my work. Nice place to unwind with your work friends during convenient happy hour (5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m., I think). Friendly bartenders and waitresses, Patrick, Brenda, Nicole and Allie, in particular.. others come and go, which is normal considering the nature of business. Food is pretty decent (love their veggie pan pizza, Buffalo Tenders and Nachos Supreme).. although they can use some extra help in the kitchen, particularly on Fridays and busy nights. Once the food gets on the table, you kinda forget the wait. Overall, a good hangout place for locals. It takes time to get hooked, but once you do, it is your place to be at least a few times a month. Update: Gene, my personal favorites vary from Bud Light and the Cabernet on "light" days to Long island Ice Tea and tequila shots, JD shots when the 'girls' were visiting. This place is nice and spacey its just the crowd that throws you off most of the time. 15$ beer towers is a steal and $20 for beer towers of Stella are even more of a steal. This is a great place to watch the game and they have an adequate amount of tv's. my favorite thing about this place is the 2 dart boardss they have set up with an electronic scoring machine. THe owner is a friendly guy and the bar tenders are very attentive just do not get on the owner's bad side or you probably wil;l not be allowed back in the bar. This place is seriously great. I remember looking at this place while growing up and wondering who would go here, let's say I've figured out why they've been open for so long. To start, it's not a frills bar, it's loud and old, but that's just the way I like it. The drinks are very cheap and all the bartenders are friendly. I've never been disappointed by a 3 dollar beer.... What makes this place great is... The food. Everything I've had is fantastic and this place is home to the best buffalo wings/sauce I've ever had. The wraps, French dip, fries and onion rings are all amazing and I highly recommend you order food when you visit. My only complaint is that they charge you for a side of sauce, which is a little tacky but it's worth the 50 cents. Come in on a weekend and enjoy some live music, great food and cheap drinks. This is honestly one of my favorite places to go in Paramus - the food is great, the service is great and it has a fantastic neighborhood feel. One taste of their wings and you will never want them any place else! We go with large groups and small after PTA meetings or early events. They always accommodate us with a smile. I enjoyed this place and its proximity to my office is an additional plus. The bar is huge and has tons of seating. It was fairly busy at lunch but not crowded by any means. The menu is your typical bar food mostly. I love boneless wings (which I realize aren't really wings) and ordered the barbecue ones. They were pretty good and I would get them again. I've been here a few times with friends, and always have a good time when we come. We usually come during the weekend around 9 or 10. Like someone mentioned, the parking situation is a bit odd, and it is a bit confusing to get there if you're not coming directly off of Rt. 17. Although, for parking, there is always free space across the street, so it's really a non-issue. Drinks are reasonably priced and generally come out well made. Although one time I ordered a Moscow Mule and the waitress hadn't a clue what I was talking about. That's fine though, it is a local bar! This place isn't very big, it gets especially packed around the bar area, and there is a seating area with five or six high tables off to the left after walking in. It's pretty comfortable, while packed, there is still room to move around. Oh yeah, there are also a couple dart boards there! Speaking of the waitresses, most are really nice and friendly as well as particularly attentive. Never had to wait too long to order, for those that have had a different experience, you must have come on an off day. The first time there I must have ordered five or six different beers, and some wings. Our waitress joked around and talked with us some, and even remembered us the next time we came - that personal touch was good! The food is also pretty good. I usually order the 20 piece boneless wings which are also reasonably priced at around $11. Their burgers and chicken sandwiches are also quite tasty. And I mean, who goes to bars for the food?! But it's fantastic for those of us that order food at bars and the food is actually good. They also have some nice deals when games are on. They have karaoke and live bands here at the OL. Not necessarily my choice of music that the live bands play, but a live band is usually a nice touch, and they're not too bad. The Karaoke is certainly highly entertaining as well. Me and my friends get quite a good laugh watching people sing (and sometimes dance). The only small issue I have when it comes to the music is the volume - it's usually much too loud and would be just fine if it was turned down a little! Overall this place is a nice spot to come and have a fun, laid back night with your friends. Enjoy some good food, some good beer, and have a laugh at the karaoke. Me and my friends will definitely continue to be patrons at this place. The Orange Lantern is an original. I doubt I will find a better establishment in NJ, and beyond. If you're a "regular" they know you, they greet you and much of the time they have your drink waiting for you. It is a shame that some people have difficulty handling themselves in public. The OL staff is top notch, for them to be off their game is unheard of. I hope that certain reviews published are looked upon with a mountain of salt. As perhaps they have been published a slight bit under the influence. It is with such sorrow to write this review. I have been going to the Orange Lantern (OL) for 35+ years. I haven't been there in the last 2 years. My girls and I went recently to see a really good band. We ordered food and drinks. After a few titos and club my best friend asked me "do you taste anything but club soda"? I thought the same thing. I asked the bartender if he could add a little more. BOY, what an attitude! He made an identical drink and practically threw it at me. When I shared this experience with a friend the next day she informed me that when it recently happened to her, the bartender snarkly told her that "they were not regulars" I guess the "regulars" get stronger drinks!
