The Mexicano is a very unique Mexican Restaurant located in the Paradise Valley part of Phoenix. People of a certain age might remember Chi-Chi's Mexican restaurant. The Mexicano is sort of like Chi-Chi's but on STEROIDS. It's more festive than Chi-Chi's was and the food is a lot better. They offer margaritas, a build. your own Michelada station, a strolling shot cart and lots of things that you'll never come across anywhere else like Mexican flaming cheese called saganaki. We started with margaritas. They were good and not weak either. Complimentary chips and salsas were served to us that were also good! We tried the flaming cheese. It was very unique and tasty! I went with the lava rock salmon fajita. (This was really great!) The salmon was very fresh tasting and was very moist and delicious! It really was better than I expected it to be. I thought the hot lava rock would over cook the salmon but it didn't. It stayed moist and delicious the whole time. I also got plenty of sides with it and these really great little hand made purple tortillas. My husband's meal didn't come out perfect but our server and a manager did all they could do to made things right. The Mexicano does have a well trained staff. We were very impressed the hostage stand estimated a 45 minute wait and we only waited 3 minutes more than the estimate. I also do have to add that our server Amanda was so amazing. I haven't had service this great in so long. I do ask questions about the food when I go out. Amanda didn't know the answer to one of my questions but she took the time to ask for the answer. (nearly all servers these days don't even bother to answer any questions. Almost all of them just say, "I don't know") Amanda checked on us often and couldn't be any nicer. Even the bus boy was well trained. He was carrying plates to bring back and noticed that we had plates to clear. he dropped off his plates and came back right away to clear our plates. Aloha Hawaiians, Hi, I just wanted to tell you about this new restaurant that I visited for my birthday. I'm always looking for a fun place to eat delicious Mexican food. The restaurant was linen table cloth and napkin ready and the atmosphere was happy with lots of music pumping from the d j. The experience was fun and interactive. You can even belly up to the margarita bar and customize your drink. It was a Tuesday, I must say, happy hour great savings, delicious food and drinks. We then had dinner in the dining room. The aroma lures you in and then hits you like a Mack truck. I had my eye on the Ferris wheels (and ask all the questions you want) and the churro cart, what will blow your mind is the jumbo prawn molcajetes served in lava rock. Next we come to the bonus round , I kid you not, "they have a fire dancer." A fire dancer that comes in and it was exciting. I had the flan for dessert. Next time I go. I definitely plan to have the churros. I can't wait to come back here for my next experience, check it out if you want some fun on taco Tuesday or want an elevated night out. The Mexicano might seem like a nightclub if you're walking by since they have a live DJ, but it is just a really great Mexican spot serving awesome dishes. It's so good that I went two days in a row! The guacamole with pomegranate seeds was really yummy. The house salsa and chips were good. The fing best maragaritas were that... the hint of pineapple juice was perfect. I was incredibly excited to try The Mexicano after seeing many posts about it on social media. I made sure to make a reservation a couple days in advance and got a table for 4 at 7pm on a Saturday. Upon, arriving at The Mexicano the sidewalk to the restaurant was packed with people waiting to be seated. There was a hostess and doorman waiting outside and I was able to give the name which the reservation was under. We were a couple minutes late to our reservation and ended up waiting about 10 minutes outside until we received a text that our table was ready. The entire restaurant is gorgeous, it is decorated to perfection with a large indoor and outdoor seating area. We were sat at a high top in the outdoor area in which they also had plenty of heaters. In addition to the cool decor, they also had a Make your own Margarita bar, a fire eating woman, and a DJ. Our server gave us the perfect amount of time to order while also making sure all our needs were met. We started off with the Ferris Wheel of salsas and guacamole which was delicious and fun to try different flavors! I chose to order the Chicken Tinga tacos which were not the most flavorful but still a good taco. The rest of the group ordered a burrito (which again was good), the barbacoa bowl, and barbacoa tacos. The barbacoa bowl was MASSIVE, and we ended up taking most of it home. The atomosphere here is really cool. Huge outdoor eating area and really comfy chairs. Unfortunately I Don't think the service or the food was that great to match. Kids beans had a huge piece of foil in it, I know shit happens but they didn't take it off the bill. Tables Next to us we're left dirty and nobody was pre bussing our table. So we were constantly getting up and removing our small plates and appetizers. The wheel was really hard to dip chips in we ended up removing the bowls and dipping on table. The gauc trip was 3 of the same gauc with a little different toppings on each. One with bacon, one with pomegranate seeds and can't even remember the last. Drinks took an extremely long time to get but the coconut margarita I got was really yummy when I finally did get it. Wasn't my favorite dining experience, next time I would pass, although the decor was so cute. read more

I used to like this place a lot better when it was happy hour all the time at the bar and the well tequila was better. We still always have a nice time, but happy hour is much more limited now and the well tequila isn't drinkable. The nachos are always a win, and we also love the shrimp cocktail. We've never had bad service...the bartenders are attentive and the atmosphere is really fun! However since they changed the happy hour, going here no longer feels like a bargain. read more

Went there on a Tuesday for my birthday. Started with the best f%#***g nachos with birria. Bomb. My man ordered a burrito. Bomb. I ordered the chicken enchiladas. They were just okay because I found a bone in my enchilada and the rice was bland. The cool part is that they gave me free flan for dessert. I don't even like flan but they converted me. I like their flan!!! Service was great. Didn't have to wait long for server to check on us or to bring us items we requested (I.e. lemons, water, the check, etc). The restaurant was cute inside. However, upon receiving my food , the tacos all looked the same. As I was sampling everything the kitchen help came with another plate with a taco on it . Seem they were all the same and so they realized and brought me an extra taco to make up for the mistake . A++. The ambience is great at this place, there is an inside and outside area to sit. We were first given a outside spot and not sure why they thought we had 7 people but after talking with the servers we were able to sit inside. Keep In mind they only let a maximum of 6 people to sit inside tables which we had. It runs from 4-6 Monday through Friday they offer $5.00 classico margaritas and well drinks, a selection of $2.00 tacos, and my favorite their "Bottle and Board" for $19.00 you get selection of 5 tacos and a 32 oz carafe of classic margaritas. The food is great the decor and staff are amazing the place was packed on a Wednesday and they have fire dancers, a margarita bar and a great patio which us beautiful at night. Oh my God, we loooove the Mexicano so much! It is easily one of our top five favorite restaurants in the Valley! My partner and I live in San Francisco so, of course, we got opinions when it comes to Mexican food. Last time we visited, we had two little ones with us. The 9 year old ended up having a really bad allergic reaction and had to run with his dad to Urgent Care, right before our meals were served. Our server was super sympathetic and without us asking, offered to keep father and son's meals warm for them until they returned. The server was extremely attentive throughout our entire meal and we were touched by such a high level of service. There was a line out the door, so definitely the place to be on a Sat night, and you can order drinks at the bar while you wait. Live DJ, lots of 20-30 something's ready to party. Food caters to the show too, spinning wheel of guacamole/salsa, large margaritas w/a real side of a mini piñata, appetizers to wow like a 3ft long quesadilla that comes w/scissors to cut and serve. They also had a live fire dancer . The service was ok, didn't give us any serving spoons for the salsas so we all had to pour on our sauces. The cake at the end of the night took forever to arrive, but we were there to have a good time so it wasn't an issue. I had the birria nachos, it was ok. Lots of sauce and cheese, but surprisingly the chips were still crisp. I'd go back for drinks and appetizers, pregaming for a night out. This is not the place to be if you want an intimate dinner date or fine dining experience. The drinks were fun and tasty. The birria sauce was unique w/a cinnamon finish, best with the quesadillas! You can tell it's a top-notch Mexican spot by the Spanish rice, and they absolutely nail it every time. I was able to try this place out for my birthday dinner & loved it. The ambiance was great it was a Sunday night so it wasn't too loud and not too quiet . The service was also great the waitress attended us when we needed her and provided us details of what was in the food. We started off with chips and salsa and the salsa was sooo tasty and a bit spicy . I was able to try the birria tacos and those were reallly good. My favorite was the appetizer it was the Elote & to be honest I can probably eat a couple of those. I also had to have their BYO Margarita with a piñata Of course I had to get it! We were looking for a new spot with gluten free options and found The Mexicano- I booked us a table for Friday night not knowing what to expect! 1- It's in a super busy plaza so parking is harder to find- we had to circle around and park in the Walmart lot. 2- It was busy! So definitely ensure you book a reservation!! There were tons of people lined up- you have to check in with the door girl and they text you when you're tables ready (until then be prepared rk wait outside- the misters were on and it was quite chilly! (They also had 2 door men dressed in black which was interesting- we didn't know if it got wild here and why it was necessary). 3- inside was large! We ended up being seated on the patio which was lovely- the vibe is casual, although they do have fire dancers etc but not as extravagant as Toca Medeira. Just a singular girl in a centred spot for a few minutes. 4- The tortilla chips are delicious! And they welcome you with a bowl! We ordered a few dishes from salads to burritos to fajitas and everything was a heaping serving and delicious! The food came out super quick!
