The Melting Pot is my girlfriend's favorite restaurant. I really enjoy it too and think it is a great concept. You can go for a full four or five course dinner, or just come for wine, cheese and/or dessert.
We went for Bethlehem Restaurant Week and it was only $30/pp for a 4 course dinner. The restaurant is located on Bethlehem's main thoroughfare. I've been to Melting Pots in Pittsburgh, Atlantic City, and now Bethlehem, but I'm focusing on our restaurant week visit to Bethlehem for this review.
If you have never been to a Melting Pot restaurant, and have a signifigant other, this is the PERFECT place for a date. Most restaurants have a "Lovers Lane" aisle of tables, where you and yours can sit closer together, or for instance in Atlantic City, in a private booth with a frosted glass booth for extra privacy.
We had reservations and were lead to our seats. We ordered drinks, my girlfriend had her favorite.. the Yin & Yang which has Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur, Stoli Vanil Vodka and ice cream topped with chocolate shavings. I've had a taste of this and it is, pardon my language, fucking divine. I stuck with my usual choice as well, a wonderful Blackberry Margarita and soon our first course was up.
The first course is a cheese fondue and you have your choice of cheddar cheese, traditional Swiss, fiesta cheese, Wisconsin trio, spinach artichoke, or fondue a la France. Our favorite is the spicy fiesta cheese fondue made with a beer base, cheddar cheese, chopped tomatoes, and jalapenos. It includes fresh breads, vegetables and granny smith apples for dipping. Please remember that all members of your party have to be onboard with your choice of cheese as you can only choose one cheese fondue per cook top at your table. Feel free to ask for refills of dippers, though.
The second course is a salad course and you have your choice of house salad, California salad, spinach mushroom salad, Caesar salad, or salad nicoise. My girlfriend chose the California Salad which had mixed-baby-salad greens, Roma tomatoes, walnuts and Gorgonzola cheese with Raspberry Black Walnut Vinaigrette. I found the Vinaigrette a little too sweet personally but I really enjoyed my Melting Pot House Salad which had Crisp romaine and iceberg lettuce, cheddar cheese, fresh tomatoes, crispy croutons and sliced egg with the sweet and tangy House Dressing, but you have your choice of that or the Peppercorn Ranch Dressing.
For the entrée course you had your choice of three different dinners. You could choose The Broad Street which had chicken breast, white shrimp, citrus pork, and asparagus, The New Street which was spicy chicken, spicy shrimp, spicy ny strip, andouille sausage or our choice of the evening, The Main Street which was garlic chili chicken, roasted garlic shrimp, teriyaki marinated sirloin, and lastly, spinach and artichoke ravioli. The food is delicious. Cook times vary from 1.5 to 3 minutes for each item and cooking it makes for a leisurely yet intimate dinner.. perfect for a date or special occasion.
Last but not least, you have the Chocolate Fondue course, for dessert. Everything you could possibly want to dip in chocolate is there for the taking.. fresh strawberries, bananas, cheesecake, Rice Krispies Treats, marshmallows, pound cake AND brownies are there to dip into your choice of chocolate fondues.
You have your choice of a Seasonal Fondue, The Original which is a signature milk chocolate with a swirl of crunchy peanut butter, the Disaranno Meltdown which has silky white chocolate swirled with Disaronno and is flambéed tableside(!), the Cookies 'n Cream Marshmallow Dream which is dark chocolate topped with marshmallow cream, flambéed, swirled together and garnished with crushed Oreo cookies, the Flaming Turtle which is milk chocolate, caramel and chopped pecans flambéed tableside, the Pure Chocolate Milk featuring dark or white chocolate melted for a pure chocolate fondue, the Bananas Foster which is silky white chocolate swirled with bananas and a dash of cinnamon and flambéed tableside, the Yin & Yang which is half dark and half white chocolate artfully swirled, the Chocolate S'mores which had milk chocolate topped with marshmallow cream, flambéed and garnished with graham cracker pieces, and then there's the Special Event.. where you create your own.
Oddly enough, we chose one that was on the Restaurant week menu, and that was a Crème Brulee fondue. It was very rich, flambéed tableside, and went beautifully with all the available dippers. This is a decadent, filling experience and I'd definitely plan for a solid three hours if you're going for all four courses and drinks. This is a meal meant to be leisurely and I've never , ever felt rushed here. If you've never been, by all means put this place on your to-do list! read more
