Interesting menu options, both traditional and Portuguese.

We drove past this restaurant a couple of times before one of our friends in Milbridge suggested we go there. Portuguese restaurant in Downeast Maine, I don't know.... Really good food. I had the haddock burger and it tasted fresh and melt-in-your-mouth smooth. A lot of restaurants near the coast market seafood but getting really fresh fish is not a given. We also ordered the Fried Key Lime Pie for dessert and it was a big hit with everyone. The Meadow's delivered! We'll be back. * It's is located on the border of Steuben and Milbridge, FYI.

We thoroughly enjoyed a fried chicken burger, Chourico roll, and fried blueberry hand pies a la mode.

We had the roasted almonds, the Lady Edison ham, the confit octopus, the salt cod croquetas, patatas bravas, and the brussel sprout special. We would happily order everything again. When it came to the wine, our server knew the fine details not just about the wine but about the vineyard itself. We truly appreciated that we could order wine in different sized pours, so that we could also explore the wine menu. And most importantly the service really made the night special. Everyone was friendly and helpful with every single interaction.

Where to start? There are so many good things to say and not enough time…read more I'll start with what everyone should know off the bat - the food is absolutely top-notch, amazing, delicious, sumptuous. We ordered their showcase meal - the cataplana. They describe the cataplana as a traditional Portuguese copper vessel that locks in steam and flavor, used to prepare aromatic seafood stews. In this case, it was a seafood stew that included lobster, shrimp, mussels, clams and fish....with a delicious steaming bowl of gold rice to soak it all up. The closest parallel that I can think of is a cioppino. No matter what you call it, it is absolutely amazing = rich, delicious flavors all mixed together into one hot bowl of ambrosia. They give you a ton of accoutrements that actually enhance the flavors and aromas in a good way - some piri piri to make it hotter, some fancy seafood seasoning salt, a roasted lemon, etc -- and I advise you to definitely take advantage of them. The broth itself, which could easily be overlooked when you have so many delicious types of seafood in front of you, was SUPERB -- seasoned to perfection. Absolutely save some room to enjoy the rice and broth. We also ordered the vermouth service and what a good choice! They serve you a beautiful assortment of vermouth and ice (and sparkling water), along with a selection of bar snacks that are worth the price of admission alone. In my case, we had olives, crisps, sour candies and lemon wedges. Our vermouth was slightly sweet, so pairing it with the sour candies and lemon was a hit with us all. The olives themselves practically melted in our mouths (careful, they do have pits!) and served as a great contrast to the vermouth flavors. At least 2 people must order this drink service, but it is definitely worth it. Our appetizers were also so amazing that I think the next time we go here (and we WILL go here again), we may just order 5 or 6 appetizers and call it done! OR, maybe it just means that we should go to their brunches on Saturday and Sunday. We ordered the octopus confit - it is NOT a spread or a gelled concoction, despite the name - and got sumptuous pieces of grilled octopus topped with a savory pimento (pepper) sauce. The cabbage conserva (delicious cooked (steamed?) cabbage rolled to perfection with an exquisite tomato sauce and accompanied with almond slivers) was also a hit and a great recommendation for any vegetarians in the group. We thought we were too stuffed for dessert, but luckily commonsense won out in the end and we got to enjoy a delicious pastel de nata and an almond cake. YUM. GOSTOSO. What did I not talk about? Ah yes - service. Well, that was amazing as well -- from the moment we entered the restaurant to when we sadly had to leave: Amazingly attentive and knowledgeable wait staff, a young and energetic group of servers and bartenders, and a very delightful crew of maitre d's and hosts to fill in the gaps. A few times, even a chef came out to describe what we had ordered (or in the case of our vermouth service, the woman in charge of the bar). All in all, another success for Portland's vibrant dining scene. We will absolutely go back and have already told friends that they will be eating here when they visit us in 2026.

She'd mapped out a perfect little afternoon and evening, starting with an indoor market that was full of local art and vintage charm. By the time we wrapped up there, we were hungry. With so many restaurant options around, we chanced it and landed here. The moment you step inside, you're hit with that scent of garlic and seafood. My kid and I gave each the 'look' that said: this is it! Casa Portugal is inviting and decorated in soft blues+whites giving a coastal feel and the service equally matched the energy perfectly: attentive and kind. Our plump and juicy shrimp in tomato sauce starter was rich and full of garlic. It was the kind of appetizer where you find yourself wanting extra bread just to sip up that garlicky sauce. For our main plates, my kid picked the grilled octopus, and I went with the sea bream. The octopus was "like butta," and had that perfect char on the outside but silky inside. My sea bream was nice and I particularly liked that they got rid of the head and tail for me. Both our man plates by the way- had a nice amount of potatoes and steamed vegetables. And here's another part that really stood out- pricing. For the quality and freshness of the seafood, everything felt reasonable. All in all, come to Casa P. for a good meal. From the moment you walk in and smell that garlic in the air to that last bite of seafood, it really delivers on every level.

We started off with a pitcher of sangria, as did many other couples around us. The sangria was delicious, one of the better ones I've had. Fruitful and sweet, very refreshing. They bring bread to your table to start, it was very good especially with some butter and olive oil on top. I do wish it were toasted or warmed but it was still fresh. We also ordered the appetizer, Chouriço Assado no Fogareiro (Grilled Portuguese Sausage). This came to us straight off the flame and was nice and hearty. I ordered off of the specials menu, Bacalhau com natas (Cod with Portuguese cream). It was very yummy, fresh fish and a light cream. It came with salad but I asked for rice. Instead of substituting the waitress gave me both and charged an extra $5...oh well. Salad was good and rice too. My boyfriend got the Filetes de Peixe (Fried fish filet with salad, rice & potatoes). He enjoyed his too! Those potatoes were yummy. We chose fish and most of the tables around us did too. We skipped on dessert although all looked great. This place was quite charming inside and definitely is an awesome place to enjoy dinner. It was busy so we were lucky to snag a table as it's not big inside. We did feel as this cooking was very homemade and although super tasty and lovely inside, I wouldn't consider it fine dining. I would revisit!

The menu is not huge, but it has enough for you to be satisfied. Beverages include beer and soft drinks, a small selection of wines, many of which are Portuguese, and sangria, red and white. Note that the prices of the wines and the sangria are not on the menu. We ordered the red sangria, which comes by the glass, and if I recall is approximately $9.45/glass. It's delicious and quite strong. Our appetizer was the cod cakes, which could just as easily be described as "cod cake tots" due to their size, but they're also priced "tot size" at $1.75 each. The Portuguese style meals are typically chicken, beef, or various types of seafood, generally served with a tomato based sauce with onions and peppers, on your choice of pasta or rice. Potatoes will also come with some meals. Our dinners came out VERY quickly, just about the time we were finished with the codfish tots. Dinner plus the appetizer and sangria came to about $45 each adding tax and tip, a reasonable amount for the quality of the food and atmosphere.
