Absolutely obsessed with Harbor Burger Shack. I think this is my fifth time coming back and it somehow gets better every time. The chili dog is SO good and the chili itself deserves its own fan club honestly. Everything tastes fresh, messy in the best way, and exactly what you want from a retro burger spot. The vibe is half the fun too -- I swear they added even more games since the last time I came. It feels like a hidden little retro hangout where you can eat comfort food and actually have fun while you're there. Definitely one of those places that becomes a regular spot fast. To be honest, I am shocked to see so many 5-star reviews of this place. I'm only giving it two starts because our kids like the little arcade.. but the food is SO overpriced and underwhelming. A friggin milkshake is over 10 dollars BEFORE tax. What??? Burger patties are wicked thin, fries are just some plain, frozen crap and the shake had a bizarre cookie coating around the top. Not the edge/rim, the whole like, 1/4 top of the cup was coated in crumbs.. which got everywhere and made it inedible and impossible to put in a cup holder if you wanted to bring it home with you. Just so weird. It's also just gross in there in general. To be honest, all of that would be forgivable if the staff were at least the slightest bit nice. They are all so incredibly rude. They are young and I get that Covid ruined their formidable socialization years, but it's actually crazy how awful they are. Can't even get them to crack a smile or a "thank you". Sorry, not to be a boomer, but if I'm spending 55 bucks on two burgers some fries and a shake, I'd like some good customer service. Definitely save your money. Expect a fun , bright and modern atmosphere with a slight 50s diner twist ! You can order at the counter with a person or order and customize on the iPad. The best part was LUIS, who took our order, kindly washed out my water bottle and led me to the machine to get fresh water. What a kind & thoughtful gentleman. It is possible to teach good service but LUIS went above & beyond, with care, concern & a smile. I can picture him being manager some day! Food was very good. Place was clean. Prices were fair considering the tourist season. Harbor Burger Shack is unassuming on the outside, sets back from the road, old fire truck outside, but all smiles inside! Love this place we just discovered. They told us they opened July 2924 but we missed it last year. Looks like a retro diner. So cute. Mini arcade in a small area. Kids were loving it. Burgers are awesome and you can build your own with whatever you fancy. I had mine with pastrami, Swiss, avocado and it was delish. We travel through Kittery at least once a year and will be back. We had such a great experience at Harbor Burger Shack in Kittery. The atmosphere was fun and welcoming. The space inside was roomy with plenty of seating, and the décor has such a cool vibe. Our young boys loved the arcade area, which was the perfect way to keep them entertained while we waited for our food. The food was really good. The sweet potato tater tots were a standout, the fries were spot on, the burger was great, hot dog was delicious, and the milkshakes were to die for. Cute burger shack with a 50's vibe that serves up some pretty darned good burgers and fries. We came away pleased. Inside you order at the counter and take a seat at checkerboard black and white tables with bright yellow benchers. Lots of neon! Everything is spaced and easy to get around when your ordered is called. And it's good for kids, too, no noise worries. We wanted our burgers with some specific ingredients (extra tomatoes, no sauce, lots of pickles, etc.) and the staff got everything right. The fries were crispy and just about salty enough for us. They've got fried and grilled chicken, too, and an assortment of other items for no-burger fans and for the young 'uns. . I ordered a double patty burger in a lettuce bun and a side of fries via doordash. I'm not sure what happened but there didn't seem to be enough lettuce wrapped around the patties to be considered a lettuce bun or the patties were extremely hot and oily and wilted the pieces of lettuce surrounding the patties. Either way I was disappointed with how it looked and how it tasted. The patties were also thin and overdone. Perhaps their burgers are better experienced in house? The highlight of this meal were their fries. They were crispy with the right amount of salt. I thoroughly enjoyed their fries. Overall, I don't think I'll be ordering again. read more

This is such a cute little burger spot! Not only was the interior really cute, but our food was great as well. I got the Aye Aye Smokehouse bacon burger and it was delicious. The food was excellent, but everything else was highly disappointing. We paid through the self-service kiosk, which did not print a ticket and only sent the receipt by email. After an unreasonable wait, they asked us for a ticket even though they already had our order. To make matters worse, we were singled out at pickup while other customers who used the same system were not asked at all. The attitude of the staff made the experience feel uncomfortable and unnecessary. Great food cannot compensate for such poor service and an inconsistent process. We will not be returning. read more

Let me start up by saying we never go out to restaurants anymore. Because my toddler is a handful. This place was perfect for an energetic little boy. Also great food! I got south of the Harbor burger with avocados and jalapeños with a gluten free bun, and I got my son the basic burger with cheese tomato and a lettuce....delicious!!! Their fries were also scrumptious and hot out of the fryer. Also very very affordable prices. The vibe of the place was really nice with the yellow benches,and black and white Checkerboard tables that gave it a 50s burger joint vibe. The most interesting thing about this place and gave it a special advantage are the amazing staff. They were all friendly and lovely people . We interacted with three staff members, and each one was nicer than the other. And the person taking the order was really attentive. My son was just running around and staff were just interacting with him and waving at him . So he really had a good time. Wish I took pictures. I gulped down the burger because it was really good,...and the presentation was good as well... the wrapping was in this aluminum foil style wrap, which also gives it a specific retro vibe. When you go to Kittery outlet malls there really are not many places to have lunch, well now there's a burger shop! It is order at the counter and seat yourself. I was really hoping it would be quick, but we waited 20 mins for our burger order. The burgers were smash burger style. I ordered a mushroom Swiss burger and it was good. Fries were typical burger place fries. I think it's a little expensive but hey at least we have another choice when shopping in Kittery. read more

I'm so sad that this spot opened a month before I move hours away, it has such a fun retro vibe & the food is really tasty & not overpriced. They have a selection of 4 juices that are tasty , especially the purple mixed one (can't recall the 3 flavors but try it !) Gave the Harbor Burger Shack a try recently and I have to say, it could be one if not the best burger I have ever had in my life! I am no stranger to burgers, but finding a good one can be harder than you think. We all have our own preferences when it comes to burgers, but whatever they are doing keep it up! Have been wanting to try this place since it opened. Finally got a chance recently and I was not disappointed! I placed my order online. It said it would take a half hour but I wanted to check out the inside, so when I got there, I went in and liked the atmosphere right away. Very much family friendly, fun and open. You can watch the cooks make your meals. They also offer a variety of Maine made items. I picked up some pickled beets and dill pickles while I waited. My order was ready in 15 minutes and got it home without sneaking anything. I ordered the South of the Border burger (with avocado and jalapeno sauce on it), got my husband the basic burger with bacon and cheese and it came with their own Harbor Sauce. Both were delicious! The fried pickles were perfect, not too crisp and not mushy. The only thing they forgot was a side of Harbor Sauce for the fried pickles. So I probably would have given them 4.5 stars, but hey, I'm not going to quibble over 50 cents. Try it - I think you will like it. read more

The burgers are good. Fresh and more than enough thickness, as far as all of us were concerned. (6 people) The shakes are so thick, you need a spoon. They're really good. Very friendly staff. Fries are crinkle cut and tasty. The area is spacious and retro. It was nice! On a side note, take the two negative reviews before my review with a grain of salt. There are major contradictions to some of the content. How can a brand new table smell like mildew? The burgers were far from being previously frozen. Went here with former coworkers, and was so impressed with the food, the attentive staff. The atmosphere here is definitely 1950's. Coworkers all agreed that it was hands down the best burger they have ever had. On the plus side, they also had coney style hotdogs with hotdog sauce that was incredible. Decided to give this place a try since we live nearby and it is brand new. The atmosphere is nice and clean and spacious and fun decor/ theme. However, it was a huge disappointment. The food quality is really subpar, especially for the price. Wasted $30 for two people and I didn't even get any fries. One chicken sandwich, one burger one fries and two drinks. I had the "farm fresh" chicken sandwich and it was very thin and greasy and the tomato on it was the ends of a tomato you'd throw away.. there was one shriveled tiny pickle and a half.. not even a piece of lettuce on my chicken sandwich. Misleading menu names make the food sound so much better than it is. Husbands bacon burger was super thin and he said it was "ok". The fries looked like cheap quality frozen French fries. Sorry but the bad reviews are right (minus someone saying moldy tables that's just not possible, it's brand new). Was very good burgers thin crispy and juicy. Bacon was perfectly cooked and toppings were fresh. The bun was also fresh and not overly big light and airy, their signature sauce was different than any other and paired very well with the excellent fried pickles.
