The maple leaf Tavern is that classic Vermont establishment that you are looking for to get that local feel! We came in for lunch and I was impressed by the vibe in the restaurant. The old tavern feel and decorations were nice. And to look outside, you can imagine the feel when the snow starts to fall. For lunch we ordered the tomato soup and the onion soup. Anna our waitress made the recommendations. The soups were delicious, the onion cover been a little hotter but it was still delicious! For lunch we got the Italian meat bowl. Heroes is amazing delicious and the fries were nice and crispy. The turkey clubs were huge and enjoyed very well. I highly recommend I will, but it was really good. read more

When we first walked in, we noticed that it was incredibly warm in the restaurant. We found out at the end of our meal from our server that their two air conditioning units broke down. The only one that was working was at the bar. I wish she had placed us closer to the bar section before putting us in the very back with no air flow. Too bad they didn't have outside seating because it would have a lovely evening to dine outside. I was determined to have some clam chowder while in Vermont. The one here was too salty. It also had bacon bits which probably added to the salt content. For my entree, I ordered the chicken piccata. Again, I thought the dish was too salty. But I will say that my plate was filled with a large portion of the chicken, mashed potatoes, and vegetables. I'm not sure whether it was the large size of my meal or the fact that I was too warm to finish. So we took the remainder back to the hotel for another day. He ordered the ribeye and it too was a large portion that he did not finish. The meat was perfectly cooked with juices. We would have loved to linger as our evening was coming to a close and we had no other plans but after hearing other customers say it was too warm in the restaurant, we decided to head back to the hotel early. Tried this place while visiting Vermont. Place is nice and in a good area. Ordered their wings and my favorite were the maple wings. Really good flavor and will have you going back for more. There are also other flavors to choose from. Drinks are also good and they have themed drinks depending on the season. Our server was very nice and helpful. read more

First, it's always great when the staff is welcoming, especially when a place is crowded. Everyone was friendly with at least a warm smile. Yum!! As much as I wanted to try the maple bourbon or the chocolate martini (throw back from the 90s, I'm healing from a concussion and there's ice on the road tonight! What I did enjoy was my burger with bacon and gluten free bun! That was delicious and I ate it with sweet potato fries which were cooked perfectly to my liking. The restaurant itself was comfortable and warm with lots of natural wood. It was full and while it's not usually my favorite, I sat at the bar; and everyone who walked up was friendly as well. The woman behind the bar with the cool glasses was attentive, efficient and friendly/kind! I'll be up here teaching and mentoring for a few months and plan to come back before I leave in May. I spent the day in the Vermont wilderness, and I needed a place to get out of the sun and charge my car for the ride home. EV owners, there are three places to eat near the fast-charger, and the Maple Leaf Tavern is one of three I'll recommend. Their tap list welcomes anyone, with mainstays aside local and regional favorites. The specials don't disappoint, though I ordered off the regular menu. I upgraded to the tater tots, and I will say that these were some of the best I've had, fried to perfection, with only a little bit of oil left behind to hold the seasoning. The burger was cooked to my liking, with local ingredients rounding it out. The staff is attentive, even on this young Saturday night. The restaurant was fairly quiet despite the crowd. It was the kind of place I would gladly spend a night after a long day, if I didn't have to unplug my car and head a long way home. Guess I'll have to come back again. read more

We stopped in to have lunch. It was a busy day so the waitress let us know it might take a little longer than we might expect, we were ok with that. For starters we had the short rib empanadas and they were ok. For our lunch we had the colossal chili dog and I had the Asian sticky ribs. My girlfriend enjoyed her hotdog. It was served with tater tots and she enjoyed her lunch. My ribs seemed to have been a bit over done. I ate them but unfortunately, they were not satisfying ( sorry to say). I forgot to mention. I love this little spot, been coming for a few years. foods pretty good for the price - mac and cheese is the reason we come and the portion has gotten smaller over time. still a good size though. Only weird thing is that their menu includes a whole sandwich section but you cannot order a sandwich past 3pm. Shows lunch in small lettering but easy to miss.... The hubby, a friend and I were in Vermont for an adventure challenge and had seen this place while driving through town. We were able to order take out from here during the summer and during mid-week in Vermont (Tues/Wed), this was a happy find as many things were closed (possibly due to covid). We saw that they had good reviews and foods that right up our (my) alley so we figured that would be better than just pizza for dinner. Besides, I never say no to tater tots! We got the cheese version and regular tots, lobster mac and cheese, regular mac and cheese, grilled chicken sandwich, mozzarella sticks, and grilled salmon. I was trying to be a little healthier with the salmon and accompanying salad, but I would say that it was okay - a bit dry, but could chalk that up to travelling with the food. My husband really did not like the grilled chicken sandwich - and chicken is all he eats. It was a big disappointment and that's hard since grilled chicken should be pretty easy. He was, however, happy with the mozzarella sticks and mac and cheese and thought those were good. I enjoyed the tots and the lobster mac which were large orders and there was a nice amount of lobster. The meal was a bit pricey overall. With that said, I would come back and try something else when we're back in Vermont. read more

Our food and drinks came out quickly, but they forgot about my husband's empanadas which soured his mood. They were definitely understaffed on a Friday night of a busy January weekend, but I made the best of it. I had the sun-dried tomato and pesto, penne pasta. It was pretty good, but they were very heavy on the pesto and oil. My husband ended up getting his empanadas to go and he scarf them down and we got home. My hosts in Wilmington encouraged me to try Maple Leaf for dinner. While it was close by, I was disappointed by the food quality. I started with the soup of the day -- taco soup. It was actually the highlight of the evening. For my next course, I tried the meatballs. They were rather unforgettable, and I did not finish them. For my entree, I tried the NY strip steak. It was tough and forgettable. The sad vegetables served with it were tasteless. The winner of this plate was the mashed potatoes. Service at the bar was erratic. read more

The service was excellent. The food wasn't good at all. Had the French onion soup and it was good but nothing great. We ordered the salmon which was good but the short rib came out frozen. Not cold FROZEN in the center. Our waitress apologize immediately and had them fix it. Came back out a few minutes later and you can tell they threw it in a microwave and it was still cold in the center. This is all happening while the manager or owner is cutting a hole in the bar during dinner service which made it more uncomfortable for all the guests. I am from Texas and this is one of the best burgers I've ever had - PERIOD. Rolled through Wilmington and wanted some authentic maple syrup with whatever dinner I could find after 8 p.m. Oh. My. Word. MLT nailed it. The waygu burger was incredibly juicy and perfectly cooked. Tots were exceptional and I literally took a shot of their maple glaze because it was THAT good. Their maple bourbon MLT Old Fashioned was excellent, with enough maple to be present but not enough to overpower the bourbon. On top of all that, our service was top-notch and the waitstaff was helpful throughout the entire night. Meal overall was so good that I bought a bottle of maple syrup to take home to take home to Austin. I have worked in food service for many years. Never have I ever experienced such unorganized, rude behavior and terrible food. I was trying my hardest to be understanding because I understand things can get really busy and we were a large group. However none of our meals came out on time and the food was not acceptable. I had mentioned to my waitress that I couldn't eat my tater tots because they were falling apart when I picked them up and glistening in grease. She tilted her head and replied oh well sorry. I could have demanded a refund but I decided to just let it go as it wasn't a full meal. However my Aunt received her meal long after everyone was served. She ordered the Chicken Piccata and it was so bad she was refunded. I would not go back there ever again and I would certainly not recommend it to anyone. read more

We had to remind the server about our drinks. I'd ordered a Maple Old Fashioned. It tasted like drinking straight maple syrup. The bourbon flavor and the bitters were drowned out. My partners drink came not just rimmed in sugar, but with sugar attached to half the sides of the glass, meaning her hand was sticky the first time she took a drink. "Don't Come Back" If I could have, I would have spoken to a manager or an owner but unfortunately, there was nobody I could tell this to so I'll do it here. I've been coming to this restaurant 1 to 2 times a month for two years now. Tonight there was a new waiter on. He took our order without writing anything down. We ordered our usual appetizer, wings. My wife ordered a burger with cheese and mushrooms and I ordered the skirt steak but I asked if I could have fries. The waiter said mashed potatoes or rice. I asked for rice. The first problem was that a side of mashed potatoes came to our table and no appetizer. We said we didn't know what that was and so they took it back. We didn't receive the wings but when the entrées came we asked about them and he said they were coming right out. The burger came with no cheese or mushrooms. The steak came with mash potatoes, no rice. We didn't say anything and just ate our meal but we were still waiting for the wings. Finally, when we had both finished our meals the waiter came with the wings. We told him to send them back. He came out of the kitchen and said that he wasn't going to take them off the bill and we had to have them. We said absolutely not and he said, "ok, I'll take them off the bill but never come back". When I asked if I could speak to a manager he told me there was nobody to speak to. After this experience, I would not come back but based on what this waiter said, the restaurant doesn't want us back. So we will accommodate. Its too bad because the food is usually good. But the owner must have enough customers that he can just get rid of loyal regulars. To the owner: this is why restaurants fail. You give the customer one bad experience and they never return. Do that to enough customers and you don't have a business anymore. read more

First off, this review is only for a quick visit this past Monday night. Wanted to stop in for a beer and appetizer. Amanda was working and she was very friendly. The type of person you want working behind your bar. Getting your names, introducing herself, talking it up for a bit, but not ignoring other patrons. Just the perfect balance. We decided on a couple local Double IPA's on draft. Both were around 8% ABV, which is very common for Vermont. She proceeded to let us know that it would be a smaller pour due to the alcohol. We had no issues until she tried to fill my beer in a chilled (ice cold) glass, which is really a no-no for an IPA. She was quick to get me a room temp glass and I got about a half a pint, so 8oz. She was nice enough to pour a bit more in the glass since it was pouring very heady, so I got a couple ounces more. My buddy got a 10oz. pour. We ordered some maple glazed wings too (order of 8 for $8.95). A bit expensive, but they were large and cooked perfectly. We had plans to eat dinner elsewhere, so we got the bill and were charged $9.50 x 2 for those small pours. I was stunned, but paid and we were on our way. That price is insane for Vermont, even if we were given full pints. Shame on this place. Great service, fantastic wings, terrible pricing. Won't be back. read more
