Highly recommend making a reservation if you're planning to visit Echo in Brattleboro; if you just walk in, they'll likely turn you away at the door. Our group of seven was seated right away thanks to our reservation, but the wait for both drinks and food was on the longer side. Our server apologized multiple times, which we appreciated, and we passed the time playing phone games with the kids to keep them busy. The pierogies were a highlight, with a nicely crispy exterior and a creamy filling, and the shoestring fries came out salty and crunchy. My chicken cordon bleu sandwich, though, didn't really live up to the name, and the side salad was pretty plain with just a basic vinaigrette. My wife's grilled cheese with fried chicken strips also seemed a bit undercooked, and the chicken had a slightly rubbery texture. My wife ordered the $20 steak and cheese with a side of coleslaw and Loaded Fries. This sandwich was delivered on greasy toast, this missed the mark IMO, because it's a fat overload. I suggest using a bakery roll in place of the toast. I one of these The loaded fries also missed the mark, this inspired creation include some dabs of salsa from a jar and some substandard cheese. . The steak was definitely not your standard shredded meat. You'd find an a sub shop however it was sliced poorly . I am in town for work and requested a place from the hotel and they recommended this place; I am so thankful! This is the best calamari I have ever had. I'll be dreaming about it for a long time! The only good item in all our food were the sweet potato fries which were hot crispy and salty- delicious. The garlic bread was terrible. Soft barely cooked white bread minimal seasoning and cold. Rip off! Steak tips on top of salad. Steak was the correct doneness but again cold, and couldnt even chew through it. The waitstaff were friendly, and it wasnt too noisy. I really didn't expect to eat good food in Brattleboro, VT but I have to say that I am extremely surprised. Was able to walk into this restaurant without a reservation on a Saturday night which was pretty good and was seated right away at the bar. - Steak Bomb - This sounded like a heart attack but it wasn't as bad as what it was made out to be. The steak was more tender than the one on the pizza and I appreciate how much cheese they put into the sandwich. My favorite part, oddly enough, was the arugula salad. It's probably because I haven't eaten vegetables in the past few days. - Black & Blue - I didn't care much for the steak on the pizza, it wasn't super tender, BUT the combination of the blue cheese with the mozarella was actually so shockingly good. Every pizza place should think thought about having this combination as the tart and earthy flavors of the blue cheese mixes perfectly well with the rich mozzarella cheese. The crust wasn't anything to die for but the blue cheese and the broccoli was honestly very good. - Ice Cream Sundae - Love a good ice cream sundae! I appreciate how much sauce they put into the sundae because every bite was bursting with flavor in the perfect melty concoction. Honestly, not a bad place to eat at all and would definitely come back when in the area. TL;DR we waited over an hour for food we were told several times was coming very soon before we had to bail. Went there for dinner on a Saturday night. Arrived 10 minutes ahead of our reservation and were seated promptly. They brought a straw cup for my 9yo without asking if they needed one (they did not). We placed our order and then the real trouble began. 30 min after ordering pizzas (something that should take less than 10 min to cook) we were told the food would be out soon. 15 minutes after that we were told the food would be out in 2 minutes. 10 minutes after that I confronted the waiter (after he walked right past us while I was trying to get his attention) who admitted that, in fact, the kitchen was really backed up and it would be at least another 20 minutes before the food came out. We ended up leaving so we could grab something at the local coop before it closed. I understand that kitchens sometimes have delays but it's pretty inexcusable to be there with my kid and have the server mislead us multiple times about when food is coming. read more

However, we received slow, inattentive and impersonal service. Like, he didn't even try. The drinks were bad: the lemonade tasted old and bad, the old fashioneds weren't old fashioneds, even the beer was flat, and we had to ask for water refills when our 5 glasses were empty for 15 minutes, only to get 4 of them filled. Our food took over an hour and our $35 steaks lacked flavor. I ordered truffle fries but received regular fries, and when I asked the waiter about it, he said, "yeah those don't look like truffle fries so I won't charge you for them" but never asked if I still wanted the truffle fries (I did) and certainly didn't offer to get them. Great spot in a quaint town! I came here with a big group and were sat at exactly at our reservation time. The ambiance is great. You can see the chefs cooking, including the flames from the wood fired oven. The menu selection is great as it boasts casual food, including a burger and chicken sandwich, as well as more indulgent entrees like salmon, risotto and pasta, as well as a large selection of pizzas. I opted for the risotto special, which had short ribs, broccoli and mushrooms, and the calamari to start. The calamari was cooked perfectly and the aioli sauce that accompanied it was really tasty. The risotto was a perfectly sized portion. The short ribs were cooked perfectly. Overall, it was a really tasty dish. The server was super friendly, but because we were a large party, entrees were not brought out at the same time. Two people in my party got theirs about 10 minutes after everyone else, so I knocked off a star for that. I definitely hope to return though! read more

Excellent food with grumpy servers. The restaurant is purposefully down market in appearance and attracts families, daters, groups of friends. It's modestly noisy but not over the top. We were warmly greeted but found our two waiters didn't really understand how to engage positively. Nothing rude but just not warm or cheery. It was a Friday and perhaps they're burned out, but their job is to still be 'on' even if they'd rather be home. The food was excellent. We had the lime grilled shrimp, bacon and chicken Alfredo, and the ribeye. They were wonderful, with the ribeye being one of the best ever. Skipped dessert. We visited Vermont for the first time and after visiting a winery and receiving a recommendation we decided to have an early dinner here. We got a table right away and service was quick. Since we had just gotten done a hike and were quite hungry we tried quite a few menu items and were happy with every single one. Our party chose the steak bomb, the salmon risotto and the Caesar salad. We also had the cauliflower bites, Mac and cheese, sweet potato fries and zucchini noodles. And even though we were full we had crème brûlée and fried dough for dessert as well! There were so many other menu items we wanted to try. If you're in the area you should definitely give this a try. If we hadn't just visited a winery we would have chosen one of their delightful spirits as well. read more

A mixed bag. My wife's hamburger was delicious. I had the risotto with salmon. The interior of the salmon was uncooked and I had to return it. The rice in the risotto was borderline inedible. It was not arborio rice. The restaurant was very busy that evening, so clearly a lot of people enjoy eating here, but my meal was disappointing. They may be short staffed as the service was slow. If I were to return, I'd probably stick with a burger and maybe try their pizza. read more

4.5 stars. The reason for docking half a star is because the portion sizes are small for what you pay for. We went here for lunch on a whim on a search for indoor dining on a hot day. The shrimp appetizer is great, but only comes with 4 large shrimp, tiny side salad, and rings up at $12. Overpriced, but we were on vacation and it tasted so good anyways. We split a steak Cesar wrap which was also delicious! Opted to add a side order of minestrone soup for $3 extra bringing the total to $13 for soup and sandwich. The soup came in a small tea cup and the wrap was small, but filled with plenty of steak and flavor. The portion sizes are good for a female, but perhaps not for a hungry male. The flavors are fantastic and the service staff is great too. Overall a good experience here. We would come back. Specialty lemon/lime vodka drink was ultra refreshing! Echo is a great restaurant, the affordable anchor of the downtown cuisine (which is generally better than Keene). Echo has the best drinks in town, reliably good food at good prices, a creative menu and decent portions. The pizza is brick oven, which is pretty good. The truffle fries are wonderful, avoid the Brussels sprout app as it is often underdone. But trust the chefs with anything else. Great service, great atmosphere, a nice patio, good people. A couple TVs at the bar, quiet and unobtrusive, but you can catch a game while socializing. My favorite Brat restaurant right now, all things considered. read more

The dark chocolate martini had far too high of a vodka ratio and neither my cousin nor I could bear to finish drinking it. The chocolate torte was decent and I like the creamer brûlée, but my cousin said she didn't like that the overall brûlée was not warm, only the top. Maybe their food is better...? Staff was pleasant, we were seated quickly and our order was delivered quickly as well. My husband and I finally tried this restaurant. The meals are priced fairly well, however, the meals will not fill you up. The portions are on the small side and priced far more than there serving size should be. We started with the calamari and it was excellent. Lightly battered with a wonderful dipping sauce. I ordered a grilled shrimp basil Caesar salad. The dressing was good with a clean taste, different than your normal Caesar dressing. My husband had the risotto special. Being from NYC we struggled to understand why we didn't have all the food choices of the world at our fingertips, but it turns out we didn't need it. We had Echo.
