It looked like a nice place, but we were told that we would have to have reservations and we did not have any. Meanwhile, they had completely whole empty garden patio outside with no one sitting in it. I am sure we could have ordered at least oysters for an appetizer which takes exactly 5 minutes to eat and drink some wine until some people who reserved would arrive. There were no people who were arriving either. I think that this a bad trend lately after pandemic started when restaurants ask if you have reservations and sometimes even have a reserved sign on some tables, but no one is using the table for hours. I don't know why they do this thing. Maybe to look busy and unaccessible and don't want to take customers money. It's silly. So we don't know what the food tasted like. read more

Very well run establishment, good American fare and exceptional service- you can tell the place is well managed. The only odd thing was the oil served with the bread-it had some red pepper in it but no flavor. Give me butter or olive oil :) The interior could use a little TLC but overall a real nice dinner experience. read more

My only regret is not finding this place til the last night. One of the top restaurants I've been to and I run a food page so I eat out A LOT. Went in knowing what I wanted to order and then the specials threw us for a loop they all sounded so good! Our server was so sweet and gave us great recommendations. The garden room was very pretty. We had such a lovely time at Peter Havens for our anniversary - we had booked an indoor table for earlier in the night but were delayed so I had to get a new reservation for the patio - we always sit outside so I was delighted that they were able to get us at the bar - we have eaten here many times but for some reason this was our fave time. The food was exceptional - we had the tuna, salmon and NY Strip - all delish - and I had a gin cocktail and a pinot noir - they even brought us a little chocolate mousse dessert to celebrate our 7 years. Loved, loved, loved this place. In a word PERFECTION. It was a cold winter night and I pulled up to a charming building with a side entrance for the restaurant and a main entrance for the oyster bar that I will come back for. Upon entry I was greeted and sat at the reservations at the bar. A wonderfully attentive bartender that seemed like she ran everything started me off with the specials. I changed my mind from the duck pate and duck breast to the escargot and scallops...more on that later - but I am glad with my choices. A great selection of wine by the glass the malbec was delish. Had two glasses that a had a generous pour. The bartender knew the menu and described the specials with much detail. I just had to go with the scallops and I am glad I did. Seared to perfection and married with carrots and green beans that were delish - cooked to an al-dente perfection. These were served over risotto that was firm and of perfect constancy. I just wish the meal could keep on going. The appetizer was escargot on a pastry puff and everything tasted just perfect. When traveling alone I love to sit at the bar and this one did not disappoint. A mix of eclectic clientele, everyone chatted the appropriate amount and shared recommendations of the menu, other dining establishments, and the city. From ambiance, to staff, to drinks, to the crowd, to the food, everything was perfect. Thank you all for a wonderful meal that exceeded my expectations. It was a crowded New Year's Eve. We sat at the bar and Adrian, the magical bartender made us delicious festive drinks, mine was was called Sparkly something. She took our food order and kept filling our water glasses. The lobster bisque was delicious and the lobster pasta dish had so much lobster in it we couldn't finish it all. As a frequent patron of Peter Havens, I must have spent over $5000 over the past 5 years. However, this time, when I brought my co-workers to celebrate a special event, we were treated with casual/ rude service. My check was over $500 for the five of us. And when at 8:45pm we were suddenly asked to be quiet, I did not think our table was that loud. I looked around the restaurant and there was one other table.quite far away from us. I went up to the other table mentioned and said "I am sorry to disturb you,but I was wondering if I we were disturbing you?" They said wholeheartedly, "not at all ""Enjoy your dinner! " The bar staff said that we were disturbing them. Finally, I paid the bill of over $500, and went to the bar to talk to the bartender, I said "I have been a patron of this place for many years. but I don't understand why you're suddenly treating us this way. We're not being louder than anyone else." It was clear that they wanted to leave early. If this is how they treat regular customers, what does that say about this establishment? As to the food-They have not changed the menu for over 18 months, and is stale and lackluster. For this price scale, one expects a chef of ingenuity, constantly coming up with new flavors. This chef just serves the same stuff over and over again. I really can't recommend this place at all, which is sad. Because at one time I would have recommended it highly. They seem to now hire a bunch of college students for service who are not experienced and do not understand good table service. They hire a bunch of pretty girls for the bar, but with little thought as to good service for the rest of the restaurant. For $550,... I give it a C-. read more

We love going to Peter Havens for a fancy date night when we are in southern Vermont. The menu is well curated and the food is always delicious. This year we got a table outside and the weather was perfect-- so delightful! I've enjoyed their mussels and oysters, and on our most recent visit we really loved the veal bolognese and the halibut. Always love the sides and sauces that come with the entrees as well. I did experience a bit of FOMO when I overheard a nearby table talking about how good their fries are! Next time. Service is always nice and attentive though our last meal took a long time to get through. They seemed a bit short staffed though. Looking forward to my next visit! read more

Exceptional! I rarely write reviews-the food, the experience, the atmostphere, the value must all be exceptional and Peter Havens hit it 100%. Ate outside on their terrace. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive (without too much interruption). The food was fresh, creative, came out in the right "span of time" and beautifully presented. I felt it was a 5-star Michelin Experience. We ordered the Duck Confit Ceasar salad, which the kitchen split into 2 plates; I ordered the special pan-seared scallops and my partner had the trout. Had the best meal here with friends. We sat outside on the patio and had wonderful service. My celestial cocktail was delightful. We shared the heart of palms cake, tuna tartare, and the Caesar salad with duck confit for starters and all were fantastic. I had the halibut special for my entree and it was cooked to perfection. The risotto side that it came with was out of this world. Definitely get the risotto as a side with your entree. Friends ordered the NY strip and the fettuccine with salmon which they also enjoyed. We sat at the bar and the bartender lady - I think her name was Chloe, was simply awesome!!! Love her energy and how attentive and chill she was. The entire staff here was welcoming. The meals were delicious. Prices were pretty reasonable. We enjoyed chatting with a couple other patrons who thought my bf look like Billy Bob Thornton. They thought they were celiac-friendly... we let them know so they can take measures to fix, so hopefully it works out for the next person. I recently started doing business in Brattleboro several times a month and I stumbled upon this place.... I've only been solo and sitting at the bar so this review is from that perspective. First, Brian the bartender does a spectacular job while looking effortless and professionall. And a super nice guy. Really impressed with him. I noticed a lot of people eat a full meal--duck, tuna tartar, raw oysters, salads, soups at the bar-- The only bar-ish food you'll find is the hamburger which OMG it's spectacular and on a Portuguese bun and always cooked perfectly and served with fries cooked in duck fat. as far as drinks go, as a fine dining place they're more wine and cocktail focused however they do have a couple draft beers including a rotating local IPA. I'll let all the other reviews of the food and service speak for themselves. read more

Let me start by saying the food was pretty darn good. It was a bit on the higher side, pricewise, but overall felt it was a decent meal. We had reservations a week in advance. The downside of Peter Haven's? There are a few. First off was the seating. There two sides of seating to this restaurant. When we arrived (party of 4) we walked through the small(ish) bar area into another area with tables. This place was LOUD. Very LOUD. We were seated next to a small servers bar area with a huge coffee machine on it, a TV hanging above it (thankfully off, but distracting nonetheless). Did I say it was LOUD? Service was ok. It almost felt like we were eating in an old Country Style Diner and not a higher end Restaurant. The decor was...minimal, and mostly unattractive. There was another side to this restaurants seating area, and this area seemed much more intimate and stylish. The menu is small and there are not many options of different proteins available. I was nonplussed with the menu but the trout that I ordered was tasty. I'm not sure it was actually trout because it was a huge slab of fish, much larger than any trout I have had before. Most trout are smallish and cooked whole. This one was completely filleted. It was tasty and came on a bed of risotto that was very good. Parking was available about a half a block away, and there is on street parking but it is severely limited. My experience was teh food is a 4, but the rest of teh experience was a 2.5, so I settled on a three overall. read more

If I had to wait an entire year of not eating out just to have my first restaurant meal at this phenomenal restaurant, it will have been worth it. Our group of 4 people had the most unforgettable dinner here. We started with a dozen oysters on the half shell with a red wine vinegar mignonette sauce (cold and pristine), Tuna Tartare (beautifully presented and delicious), the duck liver pâté (fresh & homemade) and the " piece de resistance" ... Escargots in a Puff Pastry in a sauce of Garlic, Butter & Fresh Herbs (mouth-watering amazing!!). I could have eaten 2 of those just by myself it was that delicious. Then for the main course 3 of us had the Duck Breast in an orange gastrique sauce with Truffle Mashed Potatoes & Green Beans. The other guest had the Rib-eye steak cooked to perfection (rare). Every dish was perfect. For the dessert I had the Chocolate Mousse but all the desserts seemed incredible. I commend the extremely talented chef as well as the attentive, professional and knowledgeable staff. We will be back often. read more
