We had a lovely dinner here last month! Located in the middle of town with a public parking lot across the street. Looks like a historical building with character. Food was well prepared and fairly priced. We had a platter of very fresh oysters followed by rainbow trout and duck. All were delicious, but the duck was exceptionally prepared. Waitress was helpful in choosing dishes and kept checking in on us. Definitely on my list for a return visit. read more

The oysters are getting smaller than petite for the same $3 price point. I will opt out of them when I go there. The tuna tartare is awesome. Nice service staff. read more

Great Owners, wonderful Food carefully prepared , and relaxing ,pleasing dinner atmosphere. Superb Chef!!! Service personalized!!

Gave a gift certificate to family member recently. Service was excellent. Ambiance good. 3 oyster appetizer was good. The two meals were reportedly good but heard back disappointment that the main event, the fillet mignon was well-done, not medium rare as ordered. Meat was tender and good flavor, but would have been excellent if done to order. Sigh... read more

We had dinner here for my mom's birthday and it was fantastic. Nicole was our server and she made the experience extra fantastic by being kind and patient. Thank you Nicole. read more

My only regret is not finding this place til the last night. One of the top restaurants I've been to and I run a food page so I eat out A LOT. Went in knowing what I wanted to order and then the specials threw us for a loop they all sounded so good! Our server was so sweet and gave us great recommendations. The garden room was very pretty. I can't recommend this restaurant enough we really loved it. The pan roasted duck and steak with ranch garlic were both 10/10!!!! read more

Our hostess, Kristen, was unbelievably accommodating. Our server, was more than that, Hannah, was authentic, friendly and attentive. My tequila cocktail was generous and delicious. The 3 oysters, cause we only wanted 3, were simply perfect. And we shared a chef special bolognese with homemade pasta that was so well balanced that I ate veal for the first time and loved it! read more

Good service, cool vibe, and delicious meals. We had the trout and fettuccine with grilled shrimp. A bit pricey- but good. Worth stopping in Brattleboro. read more

Peter Havens Restaurant - Good cocktails! - Seafood Near Me - Brattleboro, Vermont

Very well run establishment, good American fare and exceptional service- you can tell the place is well managed. The only odd thing was the oil served with the bread-it had some red pepper in it but no flavor. Give me butter or olive oil :) The interior could use a little TLC but overall a real nice dinner experience. read more

What a fun spot in Brattleboro! I'd been to the sister Oyster Bar last year and enjoyed that. Peter Havens is connected by kitchen and ownership. On this Thursday evening the bar was full of happy local diners. It was a fun and friendly vibe. Nice bartender served up a tasty selection drinks recommended by several folks. Very good. The dishes were gourmet, with the scallops over pasta being out of this world. Thanks for a good time and a friendly environment. read more

It looked like a nice place, but we were told that we would have to have reservations and we did not have any. Meanwhile, they had completely whole empty garden patio outside with no one sitting in it. I am sure we could have ordered at least oysters for an appetizer which takes exactly 5 minutes to eat and drink some wine until some people who reserved would arrive. There were no people who were arriving either. I think that this a bad trend lately after pandemic started when restaurants ask if you have reservations and sometimes even have a reserved sign on some tables, but no one is using the table for hours. I don't know why they do this thing. Maybe to look busy and unaccessible and don't want to take customers money. It's silly. So we don't know what the food tasted like. read more

The food was superb as expected from days of old but the atmosphere has suffered due to trying to stuff as many people as possible in a small space! Not like the days of old but the management has changed from days of old. read more

Visiting overnight, relied on Yelp to pick our dining spot and boy, am I glad. Everything was delicious, from the duck pate. App to the entrees pictured. Service was terrific, as was the choc mousse! Wonderful experience from start to finish. read more

great food and service for a recent birthday celebration! Pleasing 3 generations of diners!

Terrific dinner on the Outdoor Patio with "M" our most excellent wait staff person who made the evening a memorable one for me as when my wine glass got tipped over while showing off some pics on my phone to the group... she immediately appeared with another glass of Rose for me. Dinner fare was delicious and prepared perfectly for all 4 of us. Grateful you are here in Brattleboro as a success for us all to enjoy with our family and friends for so many years!! read more

Family Reunion dinner with 9 of us in the party. Nice atmosphere with excellent service. The food was amazing. Loved, loved, loved this place. In a word PERFECTION. It was a cold winter night and I pulled up to a charming building with a side entrance for the restaurant and a main entrance for the oyster bar that I will come back for. Upon entry I was greeted and sat at the reservations at the bar. A wonderfully attentive bartender that seemed like she ran everything started me off with the specials. I changed my mind from the duck pate and duck breast to the escargot and scallops...more on that later - but I am glad with my choices. A great selection of wine by the glass the malbec was delish. Had two glasses that a had a generous pour. The bartender knew the menu and described the specials with much detail. I just had to go with the scallops and I am glad I did. Seared to perfection and married with carrots and green beans that were delish - cooked to an al-dente perfection. These were served over risotto that was firm and of perfect constancy. I just wish the meal could keep on going. The appetizer was escargot on a pastry puff and everything tasted just perfect. When traveling alone I love to sit at the bar and this one did not disappoint. A mix of eclectic clientele, everyone chatted the appropriate amount and shared recommendations of the menu, other dining establishments, and the city. From ambiance, to staff, to drinks, to the crowd, to the food, everything was perfect. Thank you all for a wonderful meal that exceeded my expectations. I will be back when I come back to the Brattleboro Area. read more

We had such a lovely time at Peter Havens for our anniversary - we had booked an indoor table for earlier in the night but were delayed so I had to get a new reservation for the patio - we always sit outside so I was delighted that they were able to get us at the bar - we have eaten here many times but for some reason this was our fave time. The food was exceptional - we had the tuna, salmon and NY Strip - all delish - and I had a gin cocktail and a pinot noir - they even brought us a little chocolate mousse dessert to celebrate our 7 years. The bar vibe is as one of the staff put it, fun :) and it was likely why we had such a great experience! read more

We love going to Peter Havens for a fancy date night when we are in southern Vermont. The menu is well curated and the food is always delicious. This year we got a table outside and the weather was perfect-- so delightful! I've enjoyed their mussels and oysters, and on our most recent visit we really loved the veal bolognese and the halibut. Always love the sides and sauces that come with the entrees as well. I did experience a bit of FOMO when I overheard a nearby table talking about how good their fries are! Next time. Service is always nice and attentive though our last meal took a long time to get through. They seemed a bit short staffed though. Looking forward to my next visit! read more

Great service even better food! I see why it is so highly rated. Will go back again when I'm in the area.

It was a crowded New Year's Eve. We sat at the bar and Adrian, the magical bartender made us delicious festive drinks, mine was was called Sparkly something. She took our food order and kept filling our water glasses. The lobster bisque was delicious and the lobster pasta dish had so much lobster in it we couldn't finish it all. The steak was perfectly cooked and covered in blue cheese crumbles. We hope to come back again and get to sit at a table. read more

As a frequent patron of Peter Havens, I must have spent over $5000 over the past 5 years. However, this time, when I brought my co-workers to celebrate a special event, we were treated with casual/ rude service. My check was over $500 for the five of us. And when at 8:45pm we were suddenly asked to be quiet, I did not think our table was that loud. I looked around the restaurant and there was one other table.quite far away from us. I went up to the other table mentioned and said "I am sorry to disturb you,but I was wondering if I we were disturbing you?" They said wholeheartedly, "not at all ""Enjoy your dinner! " The bar staff said that we were disturbing them. Finally, I paid the bill of over $500, and went to the bar to talk to the bartender, I said "I have been a patron of this place for many years. but I don't understand why you're suddenly treating us this way. We're not being louder than anyone else." It was clear that they wanted to leave early. If this is how they treat regular customers, what does that say about this establishment? As to the food-They have not changed the menu for over 18 months, and is stale and lackluster. For this price scale, one expects a chef of ingenuity, constantly coming up with new flavors. This chef just serves the same stuff over and over again. I really can't recommend this place at all, which is sad. Because at one time I would have recommended it highly. They seem to now hire a bunch of college students for service who are not experienced and do not understand good table service. They hire a bunch of pretty girls for the bar, but with little thought as to good service for the rest of the restaurant. For $550,... I give it a C-. read more

Had the best meal here with friends. We sat outside on the patio and had wonderful service. My celestial cocktail was delightful. We shared the heart of palms cake, tuna tartare, and the Caesar salad with duck confit for starters and all were fantastic. I had the halibut special for my entree and it was cooked to perfection. The risotto side that it came with was out of this world. Definitely get the risotto as a side with your entree. Friends ordered the NY strip and the fettuccine with salmon which they also enjoyed. I wish we had room for dessert but I guess we will just have to come back! read more

Peter Havens Restaurant - a bartender serving customers - Seafood Near Me - Brattleboro, Vermont

Exceptional! I rarely write reviews-the food, the experience, the atmostphere, the value must all be exceptional and Peter Havens hit it 100%. Ate outside on their terrace. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive (without too much interruption). The food was fresh, creative, came out in the right "span of time" and beautifully presented. I felt it was a 5-star Michelin Experience. We ordered the Duck Confit Ceasar salad, which the kitchen split into 2 plates; I ordered the special pan-seared scallops and my partner had the trout. Again....exceptional. Glad we found this gem while passing through Brattleboro. read more

Service was warm and knowledgeable. Food was well prepared. The steak frites was amazing. I would highly recommend this dish

Awesome, Awesome spot for dinner. Found them on Yelp! They were able to squeeze us in after a 15 minutes of wait time. We sat at the bar and the bartender lady - I think her name was Chloe, was simply awesome!!! Love her energy and how attentive and chill she was. The entire staff here was welcoming. The meals were delicious. Prices were pretty reasonable. We enjoyed chatting with a couple other patrons who thought my bf look like Billy Bob Thornton. We had mussels, 2 halibuts, claw chowder soup and 2 lavender cocktails... We would have stayed longer if we didn't have to rush and find a hotel to stay. Haha Thank you, Thank youuuu for a great dining experience here! It made our mini vacation truly fun! 6 Stars all the way... read more

Wonderful service, generally good food, great cocktail (bee's knees) - but be careful if you have celiac. Cross-contaminated my partner pretty seriously, though they were ver apologetic about it. They thought they were celiac-friendly... we let them know so they can take measures to fix, so hopefully it works out for the next person. Food: mussels were outstanding, pasta was good, a tiny bit too lemony, and too many truffles from a gal who doesn't like mushrooms. Matt our waiter was wonderful, as were all the staff. read more

EXCEPTIONAL DINING EXPERIENCE... Food is executed without flaw! Cocktails, wine and beer list are perfection! Oysters were a refreshing way to begin the experience. Tuna was fantastic accompanied by a pint of Lawson's sip o' sunshine. We opted for specials and were not disappointed! Sirloin with blue cheese tasted like filet. Halibut with tomatoes and olives over risotto was tantalizing. Creme brûlée with espresso martini was a divine conclusion to an edible amusement park. However, what put this restaurant over the top was the service. The service accentuated the meal and completed the experience. This restaurant is a true gem and worth every penny! read more
