Good pizza, hotdog, and craft beer in a casual setting with attentive bar service. Thanks Mark. They use New Haven pizza as their inspiration for pizza here nice mark to shoot for!

Damn this place was good! Every aspect too - the people, atmosphere, alcohol, food, and dogs lol. One of the workers has two beautiful Australian shepherds, and I don't know if the best part was eating their pizza or being around the dogs. I went with people from my work and we split three pizzas; a mozzarella, white and sausage. All were absolutely delicious. They had a little flop, amazing taste, and were crispy. The owner was so nice and was a really cool guy. The atmosphere was chill and had comforting vibe. The pizza is apizza style and it's legit. If this spot was in New Haven, it would still do very well. Everyone also said their drinks were really good and someone loved the sauerkraut hotdog.

This place checks all the boxes! Fantastic local beer selection on tap, delicious home made pizza and amazing vibe with a fire and cozy seating. Stellar service from thoughtful people that really care. Even the bathrooms made me smile! Definitely get the homemade maple gelato, you won't regret it.

I've driven by this building in Wilmington in years past. The difference this time -- Valley Craft Ales had a sign out front saying they serve "Apizza". If you don't know, that means New Haven Style pizza. I carved out some time on a recent trip, to visit with a family member. I have lots of experience eating New Haven Style pizza, which includes covering two different pizza festivals as a Food Blogger this year. I can confidently say for all the Nutmeg State visitors to the area -- Valley Craft Ales has legit New Haven Style. I understand that the Food Team behind VCA has New Haven area roots and that VCA has been serving "Ahbeetz" for about a couple years now. Here are some of the characteristics of a good New Haven style pizza. Thin crust. Good char flavor and color. Crispy crust with good chew. A simple but well flavored tomato sauce. The sauce marries well with the cheese. The toppings complement rather than overburden the thin crust. VCA's pizza checks all these boxes. It was better than SOME of the CT iNew Haven style pizzas I've had this year. It had big pieces of bacon and thin sliced onions. Great toppings for the good sweet sauce. A couple other notes. One, the space is huge. I don't know how full it gets at the busiest of times, but they can fit a lot of people. It also has a deck out back with a stream view. Two, VCA is a craft brewery. I had an IPA that was pretty good, but it didn't stand out relative to my favorite IPA's. If I was scoring just the pizza, the rating would be 4.5 Stars. If I was scoring just the beer, the rating would be 3.5 Stars. The atmosphere and stream-side location, push the overall score up a bit. My overall rating would be 4.25 Stars, but it's an enthusiastic 4.25 Stars and I highly recommend the pizza.

This review will be in two parts because we have both stayed in the hotel itself and dined at the brewery downstairs. First the stay: the rooms are very clean and well maintained. We stayed in 2 bedroom suite and it was spacious enough for my wife and I and two kids. The furniture is rustic, but for the price they are charging I think it's a great deal. Showers are hot and bathrooms are once again clean. Note: there are no TVs in the room so if you have kids plan accordingly (IPads, etc.). Also there was no fridge in the room but there are communal fridges in the hallway which work great. We were initially concerned about the downstairs noise but it was not really a concern on any given day. We got more noise from rowdy neighbors from NYC (on one particular night) than from the brewery. At check in the nightstands had bags of ear plugs so if you are at all concerned - use those. All in all I think it was a great stay. Now the restaurant: the place is utterly huge. In fact I can't think of a place in Wilmington that is more suitable for large groups than this one. Plenty of places to cozy up from tables to sofas to alluring fire place. The beers on draft are fantastic. If you like New England / Hazy style IPAs, give "For Wilmington With Love" a whirl - you won't regret it. American Porter is also a great winter beer that's not too crazy on ABV. Now for the appizzas - they were all quite good if you enjoy that particular New England style. I recommend Margarita if you are hesitant on what to order. One other really nice feature for us winter birds was that you can order some apizzas by the slice (plain and pepperoni) which was ever-so-helpful during late night "Daaaaad, I want a pizza" from the little ones. They also occasionally have gelato which my kids have sampled and enjoyed immensely. The service on Thursday and Friday nights can be a bit slow because the bartenders get a bit overwhelmed by traffic so plan your orders accordingly. On a few occasions we used downstairs for beers and board games (basic Settlers of Catan) with friends and it worked out quite marvelously. All in all I intend to stay/visit here again in the future.

3.5 stars. 4 stars for the pizza. 3 stars for the lodging. Valley Craft Ales is a brewery, pizza restaurant, inn, and a small live music venue. It seems to be a hot spot for locals and tourists. The sausage pizza I ordered was delicious. It had a nice thin crispy crust. I don't remember if I liked the beer I tried. The service could have been better. A staff person told me to sit at a table, but then nobody showed up so I moved to the bar to order. VCA was one of the cheaper places I found for my stay in Vermont. The room is self check-in. On the day of arrival, they text you the inn door code and your room code. The room was very basic and small. It had a bed, bench, and dresser. The bathroom had a sink, small shower, and a toilet. The bed was comfortable. The place is in need of a renovation. The walls were paper thin. My room was above the stage area so I heard the whole show without needing to go downstairs. There are no elevators in the building. Just a short flight of stairs to get to one of the 15 or so rooms. They have a small parking lot out front. I don't know where the overflow parking lot is. VCA is within a short walking distance to several restaurants, dispensary, and stores.

New Haven style apizza -- pepperoni, to be exact.

You wouldn't expect to find New Haven-style apizza this far from Connecticut -- but it's made its way up to Wilmington, and it's actually quite accurate! True to form, they're also fully stocked with Foxon Park sodas. I wish I knew their origin story. Was the owner a distant cousin of Frank Pepe? How did they wind up in Vermont? We may never know. I stopped in here because I saw it was a brewery, and imagine my surprise when I could order a taste of home. Though I was hoping for local flavor, they nailed apizza. The crust was charred enough, while letting the flavors shine through. It's sold by the slice, and it comes right out of the oven to you table. Valley Craft Ales is a brewery, too. While they don't aim to be trendy by naming every single hop and malt, they do excel at making their understated beer. Each one I had paired well with the pizza, though! It makes me wonder what Sally's would be like if they made their own beer. I didn't travel to Vermont for a taste of my native Connecticut, but they quietly pulled it off. Vermonters, save yourselves three hours on 91 and get something close enough to the real thing. (EV owners: there's a fast charger a block away!)

Great New Haven-style pizza, excellent beer, and really friendly service. This will become a staple every time I make my annual skiing pilgrimage going forward.

Had the best pizza ever here. LOCAL CORN WITH (CALABRIAN SAUSAGE) Roasted Corn, Mozzarella, Njuda, Ricotta Pecorina, San Marzano, Diced Red Onion It's seasonal and just amazing!

Everything about this place had my heart! From the pet friendly atmosphere, the great pizza, and live music.. I started to think I wanted to move here. Set in a Hallmark movie mixed with a bit of hipster flare- this small town country girl felt at home. It was cozy, welcoming and in such a beautifull location. The pizza was great and the rest of the menu also had my mouth watering. The beer was cold and crisp. The bartender was friendly and attentive without being intrusive.

After a day outside in the snow, I stopped by Valley Craft Ales in Wilmington recently. This was the former Old Red Mill Inn. I walked into the lower level bar portion of the place, which was not too busy. The place feels rustic with dim lighting. There are TVs here too. There is seating up at the bar and table seating too.. They offer 8 brews on tap including IPA, Pilz, Lager, Light Lager, Sour, Porter, Milk Stout, Dipa and Foxon Park Sodas. They also sell their beer cans here too. They also offer CT style Apizza including Red Plain, Mozzarella, Margarita, Meatball, Soppressata, Bacon, and Pepperoni.  Since I was still on the road trying make it back home to catch the Super Bowl on TV, I ordered a takeout apizza and ordered the Meatball. However, the price for the pizza was $27.95 plus state & local taxes, which came out to $30.75. The pizza here is on the pricier side for the area for a 15"x14" oval, but it's in line with the pricing of Sally's Apizza in the New Haven, CT area.  The apizza was all set and boxed to go in 13 minutes after ordering. This CT style apizza was topped with a savory San Marzano tomato red sauce, small pieces of meatball, small diced piparra pepper, shallot, mozzarella, pecarino romano on top of a crispy thin crust, slight char on edges. This pizza was pretty good with my cold beer as I watched the Super Bowl.
