Best caprese sandwich I ever had! The focaccia bread was divine. The service was outstanding and the ambience was nice as well. I wasn't able to be seated outside but still enjoyed my table. We sat upstairs in a cozy booth. The restaurant had great ac so perfect for a hot day. We started with the crab dip and it was delicious. The tomato and burrata salad was so fresh and one of my favorite things on the menu. We also ordered some fresh oysters which were from PEI and they were absolute perfection. I ordered the gnocchi for dinner and it was one of the best gnocchi plates I have ever had. Fresh and full of veggies. My last recommendation is to get the jasmine hot tea, it is freshly packed in Banff and it was such a great addition to the meal. read more

We attended this restaurant on Canada Day for a delicious meal and outstanding service. We were fortunate to have a view of the parade while we had our appetizers. We had a leisurely meal and we were never rushed or hurried during our stay. It obviously was a busy day for the restaurant but our server was attentive. Another reviewer mentioned that it had been a cold and rainy day. They were either somewhere else or at the restaurant on a different day. Canada Day had the best of Alberta weather. What a lovely surprise this sweet cozy gem was in downtown Banff. We were seated upstairs which has a lovely view of the city & mountains. Started with well crafted passion ginger margaritas, rimmed with black charcoal salt & the perfect amount of sweet to citrus balance. For starters we had the Winter Salad. Fab mix of tender, delicate baby lettuces, mint, sliced pear & apple, crunchy walnuts, pecorino cheese & a yummy vinaigrette. Next course, we shared delicious & tender salt spring island mussels in a sinfully rich cream, butter & garlic sauce ... served with the best dipping garlic bread, and yes it's worth every calorie! For our mains, we enjoyed the tender & tasty Bison short rib & crunchy fried onions atop fluffy mashed potatoes with a jus & perfectly cooked asparagus. Hubby had the Half Duck & boy was it awesome! I was kind of jealous, once again perfectly cooked & presented. We each enjoyed a glass of a nice Red wine to complement our meals. Maple leaf has a great cocktail menu as well as a great craft beer list ( from their sister restaurant, 3 Bears Brewing Co) as well as a phenomenal international "wine spectator" award wine list with several great offerings by the glass. We had planned to visit and an unexpected issue at the restaurant we booked resulted in us taking a chance as walk-ins to this great restaurant we had enjoyed on a previous visit. We were warmly accommodated and seated at a cozy table for four. Our server was amazing and we enjoyed salads to start (Caesar and burrata). We both loved our beef tenderloin (fantastic after a hard day of skiing). Lovely wines from the Okanagan Valley of BC. We enjoyed a shared sticky toffee pudding with coffee. Amazing food in Banff town! We didn't expect this quality in a hot season at a popular national park but we were all impressed with the food and service. The daily special was the stake, we ordered medium but it's a liiiittle bit over cooked but still yummy! The duck leg, perfect! Cooked with orange and jalapeño, it delivered a sweet fresh taste. Made a reservation and when we arrived, we were taken to probably one of the best tables in the place. Right on the corner, with a view of the street. Our Host was very nice and our server was by shortly to answer questions and take drink orders. We decided to go with a bottle of wine with dinner. I ordered the Tomato-Basil soup as an appetizer, and with the maple glazed salmon for dinner. We had gone with a special set 3-course meal. So a chocolate soufflé was also included. My wife went with the PEI mussels and the Prawn pasta. The Tomato-basil soup was very good and spicy. My meal was bought out to me prior to finishing my soup. So I pushed my soup aside for a bit. I dug into my salmon and it was seriously undercooked. I flagged down our server to get it cooked properly and luckily I still had my soup. Once my meal came back, my salmon was rubbery and it wouldn't come away from the skin. The mashed potatoes and other veggies that came with the meal were cooked perfectly, but that fish was just not good. The dessert was very good. Overall, the service was good, but my meal was not what I would expect. The service was good and the ambiance was very nice as well. Made reservations, was seated promptly and got our drinks quickly. And then, we waited. For an hour. For our entrees. It took way too long for our food to come out and our server never acknowledged the extremely long wait at all. And my dish (duck) required a steak knife yet was served inside of a bowl, which was very awkward to cut inside of. The maple crème brule was good but the sugar cookie that comes with it is totally flavorless. This place is overpriced, overhyped, and definitely not worth the super long wait. read more

My wife and I had an eighteen hour layover coming from Italy heading home to Las Vegas. Friends picked us up at the airport so that we could see Banff national park. Helpsters gave the Mapleleaf top marks, and the restaurant is more expensive than others. Well worth it. The buffalo steak was outstanding. Alberta is known for its beef. As such, I highly recommend dining at a steakhouse at some point during a trip to the province. The Maple Leaf is an excellent steakhouse in downtown Banff. I ordered a 10 oz Alberta New York. The strip steak was a perfect medium rare. The beef was chewy and tender. The onion frites on top of the steak were very good too. Moreover, the side of vegetables under the steak was great. It included Shanghai bok choy, which is one of my favorites. What a fantastic, wonderful meal my wife and I had here the other night. We came for our anniversary dinner, and were each gifted a complimentary glass of champagne..you can't beat that! We were seated in the upstairs portion of the restaurant, which allowed for a more intimate setting with great views of the town. We started off with an order of bread and the pierogis, both of which we really enjoyed. For my entree, I went with the sirloin, which came with a herbed truffle butter, seasonal vegetables, and mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly, and was buttery soft and tender. I would love another steak as we speak. My wife went with the salmon entree, and was equally delicious. This was a perfect treat to end our trip in the greatest town. Looking at the restaurant's appearance, I expected the food to be pretty good but ended up not really enjoying what we ordered, which included the dip, spaghetti and (3) Wagyu meatballs, and the burger. The dip was probably the best of the 3 but it was mediocre. The spaghetti was bland, meatball were bland/dry, and the burger was dry. I was expecting some excellent Alberta beef! Fries did not seem fresh either. Additionally, the food seemed to take a long time to come out. My bf ordered a cocktail which was good but other than that, the whole meal and dining experience was substandard and a total letdown especially after a long, difficult hike. Excellent food, atmosphere, and great staff. We had the 18 oz Cowboy ribeye. It was great. The fries and salad were very tasty. We also had the toffee cake and ice cream for dessert. Ate here for our last dinner in Banff. This is a huge restaurant, with a full bar upstairs. This place looks kind of classy/expensive. But I did have, by far, the best food in Banff here. And it was all about the duck wings. It was superb!! The jalapeno maple glaze was amazing. Duck was succulent and fall off the bone good. It was just a party on my palate!!! We also had the pacific crab cakes which were ok (compared to the duck). And the braised lamb shank. Lamb was fall off the bone but a little on the tough side. But the sauce on it was good too. Cous cous was bland. We also ordered the seafood platter which came with 2 prawns, some calamari, crab legs, mussels and potatoes in a garlic sauce. Everything tasted good. Fresh. And well cooked. We also ordered their old fashion, which was made with maple liquor. It tasted great!! Sweet yet strong. So amazing I ordered 2!! Why minus the 1 star then you may ask? Our waiter was terrible. Standoff-ish. Arrogant. Full of himself. Extremely efficient and fast but cold and not personable at all. Any of the other waiters or waitresses we had in our time in Banff and Jasper would've made this a solid 5 star review. By far the best food in Banff. I'll start with Service. Our waiter was a super friendly Maori guy. Loved chatting with him, he made our evening amazing. We ate in the lounge, plush seating, people watching, snowy moutains, all good. Food: duck and bison rigatoni. We are foodies and these dishes did not disappoint. Order the bread with the rigatoni. Portions are generous, if you're hungry you won't be disappointed. Ambience: we sat in the lounge on the first floor and it was not crowded. I cannot comment on the dining room, but we had a really nice table in front of the windows facing the street with views of the snowy mountains in the distance. All this boils down to the fact this is a really nice place to eat and I would highly recommend it to anyone. read more

We got seated fairly quickly and the server came and took our order. We ended up ordering the spiced french toast, farmers breakfast, and Canadian bacon benedict. The server then told us that we ordered one of the last spiced french toast and so that kind of confused me because they just opened so how did it run out? So when we tried the spiced french toast, o m g.. it was good and flavorful. I can see why it's a popular dish. The farmers breakfast is your typical eggs bacon toast and potatoes. The potatoes were delightful, there was a crunch to it and it was super fresh. The bacon benedict was everything you could ask for from a benedict. Honestly, I would definitely come back here. Needed a last minute reservation in Banff and so glad we stopped her for dinner. Kiddo had the pasta and we adults both had the burger. The hamburger was delicious and really filling. They also accommodated our wheelchair and sat us in a really quiet spot where we wouldn't disturb anyone. It was ideal! Customer service was fantastic. The Maple Leaf has the feel, look (and maybe a little bit of the taste) of a New York steakhouse but delivers dishes that are regional, artful and tasteful. The majority of the restaurant seating is upstairs while the downstairs has primarily a lounge/bar feel to it. Maple Leaf is by far one of the most upscale restaurants on the main drag of Banff Avenue. The menu is fairly extensive covering a wide range of options from pasta to "Birds of a Feather" to "Canadian Coastal Seafood" to your classic steak selections (with some Alberta beef thrown in the mix). Their menu would likely benefit from a slimmed down list of options. While the entrees seem to hit right down the fairway, the appetizers are by far the main attraction to the restaurant and where they're able to distinguish themselves from mainstream steakhouses. Definitely get the Confit Duck Wings - the light touch of maple syrup is the perfect blend of spice and sweet! I've also never tasted scallops so perfectly seared! The poached pear and beet salad should also not be overlooked. P.S. would not recommend their signature dish (it's just too simple and not really Canadian/Banff enough to select). read more
