MAIL CENTER UNDER NEW SUPER NICE OWNERSHIP The Mail Center has been under new ownership for a good few months now. The owner, Heather brightens and warms the place up. It's always nice to see her and the adorable puppy (no, I'm not talking about Jeff:) Jeff has been there thru the different owners and it's always nice to see him. I was sad that Rebecca had to go with the previous owner to Ventura.. I promised I would come on and change my previous bad review or write a new one. The previous owner tried to bully me to and even tho that super terrible guy was gone, it still lingered. But Heather deserves a clean slate and the place is sOoo much better now. I was more than happy to write this. So for anyone new and looking at previous poor reviews .... I HAD to come on about a year or so ago and write a bad review as there was an employee who was so incredibly horrible that almost every bad review references him (or employees who had to follow some really cheap rules of the owner back then) this one employee even made the other employees miserable... I dreaded coming in. You could not even say "Hello" to this guy without getting the crappiest and most inappropriate response. It was nuts. They finally let him go and Rebecca came onboard and things got better. The owner back then also made everyone's life yucky by making rules like having employees charge for silly things... like an inch of tape.... if one reads you will see the only bad reviews were about that old owner and that red headed pudgy ray of pure depression that made dark clouds afraid to congregate and cower in fear :D. sounds dramatic but so true. Heather, the new owner is incredibly nice and I truly hope she remains. I have been a yearly box holder for a couple years or so now and I have seen a couple owners. GIVE THE NEW OWNER A CHANCE How many owners put sweet notes saying Hi introducing themselves to everyone in their store? Heather does. I don't see my original poor review about that depressing guy and the old owner but it is unfortunate the new owner, heather has to inherit past owners reviews. And if the place hadn't changed so noticeably I wouldn't waste my time. Really happy with the store now. A long time ago I batted about some ideas for the place but it never was worth bringing to that other owner... one idea to bring in people was to use some of that wall space to the left of front door as youre walking in... instead of the table on the other side with scattered business cards (does anyone really read them?) ie, a nice community board like they have at the TO Senior center next to the Library... they hand out same size card to everyone to write on and have a couple sections like rooms for rent or help wanted and help offered. etc. and its behind glass so its legit and not just scattered business cards and they clear it themselves once a month or something as it needs space. A really nice one would bring in people ? and if the area near the glass was made cozy and shaded from light you could set up a few chairs and some board games where people could check out and play like some of those boba coffee houses do. Some boardgamers groups would probably pay to be able to have a place to play if you could setup a bigger table you could charge them a few bucks for a weeknight to use the front.... the santa susana museum had a room they did that for for the Simi Boardgamers Group. Ventura County Boardgamers used to have an attorneys office 1 night a week with all the boardrooms rockin with people bringing in their games and a few snacks just off Wendy Dr. :D read more

I just stopped by to get a document notarized and the whole process was quick, easy, and very affordable. Heather was so friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Plenty of parking and no wait time...couldn't have been smoother. They also sell greeting cards and shipping supplies, which is super convenient. read more

I have been coming here for years, seen owners come and go. The store is spotless with a wide selection of packing materials and gifts. However, last week I went in with two packages to return. They were in large shipping envelopes. I asked for some tape to close them up. I was told No. She showed me the form to fill out. I told her that I can't see well and was unable to fill out a form. She let me know she would help me just this time. I was told next time to prepare the envelopes before coming in AND to wear glasses. No corrective eye wear can repair my vision. I am legally blind, but can see at 20/600. I won't be back. I was so embarrassed. read more

Be sure to ask for the LOWEST RATE AND the SLOWEST SPEED (if applicable) to mail packages. And, ask to compare rates across all options (fed ex/ups/etc). Watch out for being manipulated into Fed-Exing overnight packages when you don't need to. Why the service person does not inquire if the customer needs their packages delivered asap or slowly right up front is beyond me. And worse, does not say they're overnighting them- even when the customer is asking for the cheapest rate possible! (Can drive up the sales total by almost double)! It's not a good look for a local business to not be curious and considerate about customers' budgets, needs and preferences, especially when explicitly stated. I don't like leaving a poor review, and hope that the staff and customers learn from this feedback. May this save someone else from being unnecessarily & highly charged to mail packages. read more

I needed my college son to send me several items. The woman working carefully packed up the items and I closed bubble wrap protection. She helped him find a good shipping option and used her store address as the return address since he uses a P.O. Box at school. I've been to "The Mail Center" twice now. They are located in the shopping center where Trader Joe's is on Ave De Los Arboles, very convenient location. First visit was for notary service and Jeff was awesome! It was a very positive and professional experience. Went back today to mail something else and Heather, the new owner is so nice. She is friendly, called her customers and UPS driver by name, has the most adorable laberdoodle, Griffen (Like Griffendorf, from Harry Potter). If you haven't been there yet, give them a try. The location is convenient, and avoids the typical long lines at a Post Office; BUT, you will typically pay a significant premium for the convenience -- I mailed a small, lightweight package using USPS Ground Advantage, and The Mail Center charged 50% more than what I would have paid at the Post Office! read more

The Mail Center is great! I opened a mailbox here in September 2019. The owner and her staff are super friendly, there are lots of office and shipping supplies on hand, and everything is clean and neat. As soon as a package arrives for me I get an email alert. Horrible customer service! This place wouldn't even let me drop off a package with a return label without charging me! I understand that retail space is expensive, but that's not how you get a customer to come back. And I have used this place for years, NEVER AGAIN! First, in response to Matt K. (presuming that your complaint is not regarding "storage of a package"), I am sorry that you think it is ludicrous for a retail store to charge a minimal amount of money to use THEIR supplies, which they must pay for, to tape up your package along with making sure the return label is properly affixed to the package. Next time, you can always by your own shipping tape for $5.00 and tape it yourself. Companies should not bear the burden of using THEIR supplies without compensation, so they can replace the tape that was used for your package. As cost of living goes up, so do the supplies. Smaller businesses feel it the most, but that does not make The Mail Center a corporate bigwig. The employees there are awesome!! I have seen them go above and beyond to assist others, especially a sweet foreign student who needed some unusual help with a presentation board on breast cancer that she was presenting in class tonight. She was very grateful and had no problem paying the minimal fee for the supplies and time spent assisting her. As previously suggested, it is easier to buy your own $5 roll of shipping tape, instead of posting a rant about $1. If you take a look around and remember how this area was more peaceful, less cars, less signal lights and stop signs, where gas was under a dollar and Thrifty sold single scoop ice cream cones for $0.29, compare ALL of that to bitching about $1. To the rest of the Yelpers, it is unfortunate that Sara D.'s package was not sent at the time she expected, but we are ALL human and ALL humans make mistakes. Be grumpy about it for a few minutes or a couple hours then let it go. Life is WAY TO SHORT to piss and moan over a damn dollar. The people employed at The Mail Center are great, down to earth people just doing their jobs as instructed. Don't listen to these downer posts over a dollar. It's not worth it. read more

Ive been a customer for over 6 months I am paid up a year in advance for a box so needless to say - a good and regular customer Until recently I would have given high ratings until the new employee came This new guy makes every trip there stressful I dread going there His attitude is absolutely HORRIBLE He treats customers with contempt and never has a smile never is helpful never goes out of his way to do a single thing for anyone Matt was awesome Now I just want my money back and wish I had set up my box somewhere else... All of his coworkers say they have attempted to speak with him but this has been going on for months now and today he confronted me on a Saturday about something that occurred several visits ago that another employee said they had spoken to him about... and he ordered me out of the store !?!!!!???? where I am a paid member for telling him his attitude is horrible. Since the mail center has a new owner this place definitely stepped up. The warm friendly and yummy vanilla smelling mail center makes it all much better going to get my mail and even sending shipments out. Before this place smelled stale and was just plain "unfriendly". Now that heather owns it things have changed for the better! And it's always a plus to have her dog griffin greet me at the counter... read more

Sorry, Debbie S. but charging $1.00 for a 4 in length of clear tape is ludicrous! I've been going to this business with this company for several years and they've always been OK, usually nice guys who like to chat it up a bit. Cool. But today I went to ship a 12x9x4 inch box that had a little thumb flap that I wanted to tape up. They wanted to charge me $1.00 for a 4 inch length of tape! The red headed guy with glasses was actually pretty rude about it when I complained. On principal I refused and went to the UPS Store where they didn't charge a dime! In fact, the girl there taped both ends of the box even though I didn't think it was necessary. So I bought a 150 foot roll of tape from the UPS store and took it back over to the Mail Center giving to the same guy and telling him that the $6.99 150 foot roll of tape at $1.00 for 4 inches would be worth $375.00 (Do the math!) He thanked me for the tape but was a jerk about it. So, yeah, will never go there again! Owner, you need to teach your employees a thing or two about customer service! read more

I am very disappointed in the Mail Center. I have had this box for over 15 years and today for the first time I was charged for a box that was delivered to me because they said it was over sized. The box was 36" x 3". A 3 inch box was considered oversized?! I am leaving the Mail Center, they lost me as a customer. read more

I've had 4 Fedex package lost within the store in the last 5 weeks. They hired this new guy who is terrible. They tell me they don't have the package and then when I provide the Fedex paper showing what time it was delivered and the person that signed for it, this idiot tells me he can't find it and there is nothing else they can do. Seriously? Doesn't he know that is how law suits come about? I wish Matt would come back or Jordan would work all the hours (sorry Jordan). read more

Easily the best shipping experience I have ever had! I brought in a very large and bulky pressure washer that needed to be returned. Heather was so helpful and packaged and took care of everything so nicely! Even went the extra distance to suggest she make a copy of my return form for me to hold on to. Do not get your passport photos taken here! The photos done here weren't accepted because they were over exposed. When I told the employee that took the photos (who remembered me) he said there was nothing he could do because I didn't have my receipt. I didn't think I'd have to return my passport photos! read more

I have been a box customer for a few years now. The new management has been a huge blessing. The place is incredibly organized and welcoming. The staff are great. Tons of parking if you park in the back. I do all my mail services here, no need to go to the post office. read more

Package was lost at this location. I needed to ship important documents to my ex wife. I arrived 11/18/20 just before 2pm. Heather (owner) was assisting another customer so I waited patiently and got an padded envelope from there and decided to get a head start on writing down the names and addresses. Heather decides to help me in between helping the other customer get things into the store and puts the names and addresses into her computer so she can print a label. She informed me that my ex wife may not receive the package the next day, but would be in her mailbox by Friday. She waited the two days and nothing. I got to speak with heather again, and she told me we should wait a couple more days as the package can still arrive. She told us that she would be contacting all the carriers that come pick up and will let us know if she found anything. We never got a call back. We waited a couple more days and still nothing. FedEx never scanned our package so they don't even know they have/had it. So I spoke with heather again and asked her if it's normal for the carriers to not scan packages and just take them. She said, " they don't individually scan each package, they scan a bin she has set aside for them and they take everything" I was mind boggled that they don't scan things individually before taking them. Today, 11/30/20 I showed up again today as it's been 11 days since I last dropped of important documents, and heather still doesn't have a clue as to what happened to our package. She is blaming FedEx for the mishap and was hesitant when I asked for a refund since the service was never fulfilled. She only refunded me what FedEx charged to ship. I will be returning around 4:30pm because that's when "jose" from FedEx will show up to pick up from this establishment again. I am hoping to get any information about the important documents. read more

The Mail Center is under new ownership as of September 2019, and the new owner couldn't be more nice! The place is cleaner now, and the policies are way friendlier than they once were. It is very refreshing to walk into the place again and not be worried about an unpleasant experience. If you've had a bad experience at The Mail Center, I'd urge you to give it a second chance; I don't think you'll be disappointed! To add INSULT TO INJURY... (please read my previous review) --this disreputable company is still billing our credit card. Hey, we are busy people, with multiple businesses and SHAME ON ME for not checking my credit card bill more carefully. Yep, you guessed it! Even though I marched into the store in person, back in early July 2018 and cancelled our Virtual Mailbox in person... this is October and they have been billing my credit card every month, with the minimum payment of $39+ --I have left multiple messages this evening, with their headquarters and their personal 'Rep' who helped me in the past (she graciously credited me for their lack of service, at the time). STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY! This place has incompetent teenagers with ZERO degree of customer service, and even lesser degree of management. read more
