Thai Bowl
Chris G.

I had a Thai Bowl with fried cauliflower added and it was really delicious! I was skeptical walk into Flavor District and ordering an Asian bowl from a mac and cheese place, not to mention seeing the very spartan seating crammed into a narrow space next to a counter with too many staff who didn't seem to be doing anything at all. Yet this was truly good! The dressing that went over the top was a good combination of rich, salty, sweet, and sour, and it made all the vegetables and grains sing. The addition of Thai chili cashews was a great touch, but the cauliflower was my favorite part! Y'all, order the fried cauliflower! I'm not even a vegetarian, but those crisp chunks of cauliflower were to die for and I suspect much better than the meat options they also had. My lunch companion got the bacon jam and pimento mac and loved it. I can't eat that much dairy, so had one small bite and it was indeed yummy, but you'd expect that from a mac and cheese themed restaurant. The bowl was much more surprising. I would gladly eat here again, though think I'd bring a camp chair and eat outside or take it to go as is clearly the model for this place. The ambience indoors really left something to be desired, thus I didn't give the place five stars, though that's the fault of the venue. I feel this vendor would be much better served moving to a different spot with more seating.

Supreme Pizza Mac & Cheese Large Combo

TLDR: The restaurant for cheese fans. Unique menu of creative mac and cheeses and grilled cheeses. Including vegan options! Friendly, welcoming employees. Upon viewing the menu, I knew we would stop here in the future. Mac house offers an impressive list of unique macaroni and cheese dishes and grilled cheeses. They also offer vegan options. This week we decided to try it out and ordered the large Supreme Pizza mac and cheese combo without peppers ($22.16 after tax). Online ordering was easy and the order was accurate and ready on time. The employee who greeted me at the counter was incredibly friendly and helpful. I wish I caught her name since she really made the experience even better. The pizza mac and cheese surprisingly did taste like pizza! We enjoyed it and it left us satisfied. The entrees are a bit pricy so this restaurant would be a rare treat. They give ample protein and toppings which is great. It is located in a plaza with ample parking. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and recommend this restaurant to others!

This is the Mac&Cheese promised land. I'm really impressed by Mac House. A friend enjoyed her food here and I decided to give it a try when giving into my cravings. I am the master of Macaroni and Cheese so my expectations are were very low. Mac House did not disappoint. They deliver creative flavorful dishes. Creamy, unique and flavorful is what you can expect here. I enjoyed a grilled cheese featuring southern classics like fried green tomatoes and pimento. The sandwich was excellent. The classic macaroni and cheese was a winner for me. It was very similar to my own recipe. I also tried the bbq chicken macaroni and cheese. Very creative with the cornbread crust on top. Give this place a try.

The Mac House is a hidden gem tucked away in a shopping center in North Raleigh. It is family owned with great customer service and they remember me and what I typically order. I tend to order the same things but do change it up once in a while. As every month, there are special mac n cheese; grilled cheese; salad; soup and cheesecake. The restaurant is casual so you can relax. They have indoor and outdoor seating or you can do carry out. You order at the counter and your meal will be brought to your table. The Mac House isn't your typical grilled cheese or mac n cheese as many variations are offered from pizza to cheeseburger to bacon & truffle to jerk chicken to spinach and artichoke mac n cheese. For grilled cheeses you can get buffalo chicken to pimento with bacon and fried green tomatoes to bbq to caprese pesto. I tend to get the Mac House grilled cheese with garlic seasoned bread or the mac n cheese grilled cheese and it is just like it sounds with mac n cheese inside the grilled cheese. Both are so good. With the mac n cheese I like the seafood one with shrimp. As much as I love the grilled cheese sandwiches and mac n cheese. The salads are my favorite as they are so fresh. So I like that the grilled cheese sandwiches come with a side so I can get the salad with it. Then the mac n cheese grilled cheese gives me the mac n cheese too so I can have it all in one meal. Don't forget to try the cookies when you stop by for some yummy food.

Ok, on my list for a while cause my favorite thing is CHEESE! I ended up getting the seasonal Fall Harvest Mac and cheese. Really... who knew butternut squash, sweet potato and cranberry qould taste so yummy in a white Mac and cheese recipe? It was delicious! Then I also got the pumpkin streusel cheesecake... oh my! Pumpkin, sweet. Apple, cheesecake... so good! I've been wanting to tey Mac House for a while and they did not fail me. Go get your Mac on!

A friend raved about how much she enjoys the Mac and Cheese here. I ordered the jerk Mac and Cheese and cauliflower. The jerk Mac was great. Really good flavor and is also very spicy but tolerable. Something different here which was worth trying. The staff is nice and welcoming to all. Made an effort to check in and asked for feedback. Very receptive.

Food Truck Time: The Mac House Food Truck at Bombshell Beer Company The Mac House has a brick and mortar in Raleigh off of Falls which I have not been to yet so I was excited to try their food truck. I ordered the Pimento BLT with a water and bag of chips. The drink and chips were an additional $2.99 and the bag of chips was small so I would not add that on next time. The Pimento BLT was really good, unfortunately the container they put it in made it soggy and my bacon was undercooked. I'll check out their mac & cheese next time.

Mediterranean Mac and Cheese

Lunch here today was good! The menu is huge for such a small place, and it's very creative. We finally settled on the Mediterranean Mac and Cheese for me and the Mac Burger for my friend. My dish was loaded with fresh spinach and kalamatas and topped with feta--who knew those ingredients would work so well with mac and cheese? The regular size was almost too much for lunch. My friend loved his burger, but it definitely needed to be eaten with a knife and fork, as the "bun" was actually made from mac and cheese. He added a drink and side (chili) for $3.99. The service at this order-at-the-counter place was quick and very friendly. Tables are well spaced, they have some outdoor seating, and all staff wore masks. Check in for a free drink. The creative menu extends to monthly specials, too!

Side of cheese

Cheesesteak eggrolls - great Small regular Mac - good March special, Reuben grilled cheese- good $3 for a small Side of cheese- horrible. Good customer service, good food... prices - meh. I asked for a side of cheese sauce to use for my fries, and I was charged $3 for a small condiment side of cheese!

Although I've only been here twice, I absolutely love this place! As a fat guy and mac & cheese addict, this place is perfect to me. It's very clean, but somewhat generic and chain looking. The staff is very nice and accommodating, and have given me great recommendations both times. I went with the Philly cheesesteak mac & cheese, thanks to the recommendation of the woman that waited on me, and it was fabulous. I eat mac & cheese, probably once or twice a week, and this was easily one of the best versions I've ever had. It's extremely rich and filling, but it has fabulous flavor and was lacking nothing. Thankfully, I don't live close to this place, or I would probably be there every day and weigh 900 pounds. If you like mac & cheese, you are absolutely missing out if you don't visit this place. There is a decent wait to get your food, because it is assembled by hand, but it is absolutely worth the time.

The fish tacos were fantastic, the bourbon chicken was delicious, the wedge salad was simple but so good. Baked potato hit the spot and the lobster queso - wow. It's not a looker but it's a taster! It was served well done. When asked "how is everything" by the bartender/server as he rushed by I replied "it's okay" and he didn't break stride before moving on to the next table. - a different server came by after awhile and asked if we needed to go boxes. I declined and said the beef was overcooked. The server walked away. - a third person came over and said "I heard you were not satisfied with your meal". I explained that it was not served as advertised. He then asked "what would you like me to do about this"? I find this an odd question - no apology for the beef being over cooked, no offer to comp the item, he never introduced himself. - I chose not to answer the question. He then came back with the bill and let us know that he comped the over cooked sandwich (which included one side on the menu) but "only charged you for the side" Yes, my review is overly detailed and may come across as whiny. However, our party of four honestly felt like the staff didn't care if we were there or not. They also forgot my dining companion's grilled chicken on her grilled chicken Caesar. I honestly hope they improve and become part of the neighborhood but our family will not return. Ps - I really like pickled onions and didn't see anything on the menu served with pickled onions.

After running errands, we drove just six minutes to El Chapin, a Guatemalan restaurant. Forget Tex-Mex--this is a completely different Latin cuisine experience. The two of us spent $76 (including tax and tip), but we intentionally ordered extra to take home leftovers. Parking was easy, right out front, and the restaurant itself is spacious. Since we arrived just a few minutes after opening, we had the place to ourselves at first and were seated immediately. Service was prompt and very helpful--the server even suggested we might have ordered too much food (he was right, but we didn't mind!). Here's what we tried: Plato Chorizo y Longaniza - a sausage platter with salad, rice, refried black beans, and two delicious housemade corn tortillas. Pollo Adobado - marinated chicken with rice, salad, refried black beans and two housemade corn tortillas . Ceviche de Camarón - fresh and tangy, though light on shrimp, which tasted a bit tough Fried Plantains - perfectly done, sweet, and satisfying. Plus, I had an unsweetened iced tea with lemon. The highlights for me were the flavorful rice (with vegetables mixed in, including carrots and squash), the marinated chicken, and the sausages. The plantains were also excellent. The ceviche had great flavor but could've used more shrimp. The only miss for me was the salad--generous in portion but iceberg-based, so a bit bland. Overall, the food was fresh, flavorful, not heavy or greasy, and we left with enough for another one or two meals. We'll definitely be back.

The two of us eat at Over the Falls regularly and always enjoy it. I'm honestly surprised I hadn't written a review before. Lunch for two came to $65.80 + tax and tip, and there was more than enough food. I ordered one of my two favorites: the Ahi Tuna Pita (the other favorite is the blue cheese burger). I paired it with a side salad and blue cheese dressing, plus an unsweetened iced tea with lemon. My wife ordered The Barrel, their Philly cheesesteak, with a side of sweet potato fries. We also shared an order of house-made potato skins. It was far too much food, in a good way, and we took plenty home. Service was outstanding and truly a team effort. One moment stood out: when my wife hesitated to ask for sour cream for the potato skins, our server immediately said, "It's just 15 steps, let me get it for you." That small gesture made a big difference. The rest of the team was equally warm, friendly, and attentive. The ambiance works perfectly for us, lively, busy, and welcoming without feeling chaotic. I would be confident ordering virtually anything from the menu. We'll keep coming back.

The bar area (with plenty of tables for dining) was packed and looked cozy, but the main dining area is huge and had only a few tables in use. We questioned our restaurant choice, but decided to keep an open mind and give it a try. We are so glad we did! The food was really good. Nice presentation and clearly, whoever prepared it is truly passionate about their job. The portions are large, so expect leftovers. We ordered a fried shrimp appetizer (similar to bang bang shrimp) and a chicken quesadilla as starters. Each could have been a meal on its own and both were delicious. (It's typical bar food - but done well.) For our main dishes we ordered Shepherds Pie (server's recommendation and favorite menu item ), Northern Fish Fry (cod); and a simple cheeseburger with bacon.. everything was tasty, nicely prepared, and again...large portions. The Shepherds Pie came with fresh steamed veggies that were wonderful and a nice surprise. *Note that cod is the Northern Fish Fry- but they also offer a catfish version. The wine was 50% off both by the glass and bottle, I believe that is their typical Saturday drink special. They have a prime rib special on Saturdays as well that is supposedly delicious, and served only until they run out. There is an 8oz or 12oz option. The server was fantastic as well. She was very attentive, knew the menu, and clearly enjoys her job. What more can you ask for? Prices: Our total bill (before tip) was $127 which included a couple drinks from the bar for each of us. The dinners we ate ranged from $16-$20. The starters were a bit pricey (~$18 for the quesadillas) but again, it was meal size and truly delicious. If you are hungry for a burger or typical Irish bar food, then give this place a try. Hopefully you'll have an experience similar to ours!
