A great spot in the 'diner' tradition (open 0900-1400 Mon.-Fri.) We two had breakfast on a Tues. At 10:30. We were the only customers at that time! The diner is in a commercial area and caters to the lunch trade. One of us had the standard sausage, eggs (3), home fries, toast, and coffee. The other had the farmers 3 egg omelette (with home fries & bacon in it), toast and coffee. The food and service were great, with large portions. The coffee was good. More people came in as lunchtime approached. We did chat with the owner a bit - who previously cooked at a well-known local German restaurant (now sadly closed). It shows - since schnitzel and goulash are also on the menu! Note: The restaurant only accepts cash or debit cards - no credit cards.  We highly recommend this restaurant for breakfast or lunch. 5 stars all round. read more

I was here a couple times with a friend who works near by.. we came here for lunch!! I ordered soup and sandwich,, my friend ordered the same The soup was fantastic, it was a vegetable beef soup, homemade and very tasty. The sandwich was a veggie sandwich and equally very good on what I think was homemade bread!! It was full of alfalfa sprouts tomatoes, cucumber, radish!! A very nice lunch indeed!! It did get very full in here, over the lunch break, we ate and left quickly to make room!! Plenty of parking at the front but does fill up quickly!! I would like to come back when the lunch hour is over. It's a diner where you go to the counter, order your food then pick it up or the guy will bring it to you!! Regular diner type table and chairs, nothing too fancy, but the food is delicious!! I've heard the daily lunch specials are great!! I've heard this from multiple people,, and that's why I'll go back to give that a try!!! read more

Wow. Another hidden gem in a sketchy part of town. I parked my car beside a broken down couch, smashed tvs and unused pallets. We went in and sat ourselves, the interior of the restaurant is done in "industrial chic". Battered pepsi machine, with cracked linoleum and random knick knacks (the kind of thing you'd see for sale in a garage sale) adorn this place. The crowd was thin, about 3 tables beside our table of 4. It took 3.5 minutes for somebody (the owners son?) to come out, get a drink order and give us our menus. The menus themselves are very "dinery" (see photos) and the odd thing is their pricing . For example a coffee is "$1.91" WHY?! Why isn't it $2? why, $1.91? Why the extra penny? When our $1.91 Pepsi's came the glasses were uniformly dirty, luckily they served them in unopened cans to us. They weren't filthy glasses just , not clean. You know, like if you ran them in a dishwasher with too many other things at the same time, while using cheap detergent. With this all in mind , we ordered food. Why not? We were hungry , and being 4 guys with iron guts, what could possibly happen? What happened blew us away. The meals all came out uniformly beautiful, huge portions and as mentioned before, ridiculously priced. My companion who has eaten Schnitzel all across Germany, gave his Schnitzel a solid thumbs up. Look at the photos. Those are actual meals, not staged. When we went to pay (they don't take VISA/MC only debit/cash) the owner/chef/server apologized for the poor service. He said "when we know it's going to be busy, like after payday , my wife comes in to help" Think about the crowd that normally comes here.....a crowd where $1.91 Pepsi is a luxury saved for after pay days. A hidden gem, and getting a solid 5 star. Why did this place get a 5 star review? Plenty of free parking Great value for the food(you can definitely share the gigantic portions) Hot, fresh, and made by the owner/operator. Why didn't I deduct any stars? First off I completely disagree with the review a little further down where the review states this place is in a "sketchy part of town". This gem is in an industrial area, the weeds out front by the curb are a bit of a jungle but that is where the "sketchy" part ends. I could go on about the area but the important part of this review is the food! Being a visitors to Edmonton, we wanted something out of mainstream chains for lunch so I did a google search and came across this gem. The food was exactly what we were looking for, homemade, fresh and delicious! My sister had the corned beef on rye with a salad on the side. The salad was amazingly fresh and full of a variety of vegetables and the sandwich was packed with meat, cheese and sauerkraut. I had the clubhouse sandwich with fries. At first glance when I picked up my sandwich I saw raw onion and pickles and thought that was a little odd on a clubhouse but the amount on the sandwich was perfect. I can honestly say this was the best clubhouse I have ever had. The diner is clean. If you pause to take a good look around you will not see dust on the ledges or on the shelves behind the counter where there would normally be built up dirt. The bathrooms could use a little elbow grease around the edges but were otherwise fine. It is easy to see looking around in the kitchen and the diner that this place is run by someone who cares and takes pride in his business. Not to mention the obvious love put into the cooking! The only disappointment to my trip was that I didn't have the roast pork special! The young man who served us was efficient and very pleasant as was the owner when we left. They made us feel welcomed and comfortable. I will definitely be back for lunch the next time I am in Edmonton! Wow the reviews I read are no joke, this place is a gem and ya can't tell by looking at it but the moment you taste the food you'll understand. I had a simple bacon cheeseburger and I'm rarely a fan of a burger but I decided to have one with a poutine and there's an element to the burger I can't describe but it's certainly far from plain but not to much either just a simple touch to the meat flavour and it was delicious. The poutine is good as well I tried it first and found it ordinary. But the burger.... oh the burger it was extraordinary! Service with a smile and super polite great price as well! read more

Housed amidst scores of industrial warehouses in Edmonton's northwest, the Lunchbox Diner caters very well to its largely blue collar clientele. Run largely by the cook(not chef, he has vocally corrected) and owner, he takes your order, cooks, serves and cleans up after you. On the rare occasion, his wife helps with the service, but mostly this is a one man show. The menu is the typical diner classics: burgers, grilled and fresh sandwiches, soups and each day has a unique special along with a soup/sandwich special. I've enjoyed the bacon cheeseburger and mushroom cheeseburger on a number of occasions. The bacon is a meatier variety. Not quite back bacon, yet not quite the run if the mill bacon either. There's both a crispness and chewiness that's the best qualities of each texture. The garnishes are fresh, brightly flavoured and the bun has a perfect butter-grilled toast to it. The fries are homemade. A crisp snap to the exterior with a fluffy interior. I've also had the Wiener schnitzel. As someone with Hungarian descent, the crispness of the breading is as audibly delicious as it is to the palate. His attention to detail is stunning considering his blue collar, rustic environment. Instead of drowning the perfect crispness of the schnitzel coating with gravy, he nestles the two large cutlets on top of the smooth mashed potatoes and, like a perch, the gravy is pooled beneath for subsequent mopping in a more controlled manner. The only item I've had here that wasn't absolutely superlative in its field was the fish n chips. The chips were his homemade fries, which are great, but the fish was breaded poorly with a soft filet, making the overall product unusually soft and mushy. This is what keeps me from giving Lunchbox Diner a perfect 5 stars. And if you see the roast pork on special, get it! It's a slow cooked pork shank that absolutely falls apart into melted shreds of sweet tenderness. Don't be deterred by the rustic exterior and decade old decor, this is a rare treasure. read more

Went to this restaurant yesterday and when we walked in they said sit anywhere. When we asked if if they were checking vax passes, he shrugged his shoulders. I remember places like this when I was a kid, customers that know each other and the staff, and good simple food. The whole place was quiet except for the quiet conversation and laughter between friends and co-workers who know the menu by heart and sounds of the kitchen that quickly brought me my order, a soup and sandwich that was made better than I would have expected it in one of the trendy places that seem to be everywhere these days.
