The breakfast skillet with an over easy egg.

We've eaten at Rick and Alice's many times. Today we were a group of nine. We were immediately greeted as if we were family. They even moved someone else (who hadn't ordered yet) to accommodate us. After we were seated they continued to treat us with what seemed like special attention; it wasn't just us, they were treating everyone this way. Service is an 11 out of 10. As for the food, this is a grill and that's the kind of food that they offer. Most of the menu items and are common grill type meals and what they lack in originality they make up for in consistency and generally good quality. One dish actually was a little original and that is the weekend Breakfast Skillet. There are variations of this dish at most diners but Rick and Alice's adds an egg to the top of it. This is a big meal and should satisfy most people. It was $11 and change so the prices are reasonable. Don't come for the waffles because they don't offer any. The coffee is diner quality but there are endless refills and in a large group that's what you really want anyway. If your expectations aline with the American style of diner that this is, you will be pleased with Rick and Alice's Grill as the dishes are well made and the service is second to none. If you are looking for trendy breakfast sandwiches and dazzling Guatemalan coffee, this may not meet with your expectations. Oh and I really doubt that anyone here is really named Rick or Alice but I didn't actually ask.

Just love the staff here. I've only had their breakfast which is typical diner food. The service is what makes this place.

    Review Highlights - Rick & Alice's Grill

Unlike many other places in the city, there isn't a whole bunch of smoke and mirrors and fancy stuff just old fashioned items like hamburger steaks, hot turkey and clubhouse sandwiches.

    $18.50 Clubhouse

Did have to ask for water refill. We tried the : Cookie Butter Signature Stacks: 5/10, very sweet. Gets to be too much eating the same flavor over and over. Not enough texture or different flavors/textures (acidity, bitter, crunchy, anything really). 1 Very hunger boyfriend could not finish. Side of sausages: 4 given. Boyfriend likes but I find they are too fatty. Pancake Stack: 9/10. Exactly as expected. Eggs were as ordered, sausage for me was a little fatty, bacon was a little undercooked for my liking, pancakes were good. Syrup on the table was fine. Overall we will Not be getting Signature Stacks as it is just too much pancake but the other menu items look good.

Food was ok. Not great, not bad. Big portion for pancakes, junior stack probably best thing to get…read more Pancakes werent salty enough either, didnt taste homemade more like boxed but they were good. Scrambled eggs and hashbrowns were both underseasoned, not enough salt or anything else on it, so wasnt really a joy to eat... Bacon and sausage were good but not better than other places just the same. Strawberry jam was good. Coffee fine too. Service was good but very busy. Kitchen was slow but they were nice, waited like 25 minutes for food after ordering. Server asked if I wanted more coffee, I said yes, she said right away, and it never came... Next time she talked to us was for the bill and didnt mention anything but its ok they were busy I guess. Ambiance was good but pretty tightly packed. No coffee news, just an empty stand Overall fine but not better than 'Toast', and more expensive too

Probably the best i had in the city. The Next Act is non descript with the decor. It does have a nice patio if you are able to snag a spot. Our server was prompt and attentive. Food came out quickly despite the full restaurant. This time I tried The Pyro with habanero cream cheese, bacon, crispy onions, jalapeños, and chipotle mayo. Hubby ordered The Critic - smoked cheddar, bacon, caramelized onions, and bbq sauce Our friend ordered The Scout - jack cheese, chimichurri, crispy onions, avocado, and roasted garlic mayo We all chose the fries as a side. It was delicous. And this time the fries were great and not soggy. My burger was delicious. If you like heat, this one is for you. Both other people at the table enjoyed their burger as well. I saw someone have the mac and cheese, and that looked delicous. However I don't think I can skip the burger and order something else.

We were luck to slide through the front door 15 minutes before the kitchen closed for the night and order a burger to go. We got the Critic with a side of poutine and scurried back to our hotel room with our secured goods. The burger was amazing and exactly what we needed. The patty was substantial with a great crust against the sweetness of the caramelized onions, all between two pillowy soft buns. The burger was also huge, as it was double the size of what you would get an the golden arches. We got back fast enough that the poutine fries were still crunchy with a curds melted into the thick gravy. So happy that The Next Act was open at our moment of need. Forever grateful.
