We had some time to kill before grabbing our next flight and wanted to get some food. its an ok place but I don't know if I will be back. Food - Ordered the Wings with the Pineapple BBQ sauce on them. The portion was decent but the wings were somewhat overdone and the sauce was all over the place. My boyfriend got a dirty fork, I asked them to replace it, and they handed me ANOTHER dirty fork. After finally getting a clean fork, they handed him a dirty plate. We gave that back and finally got all clean dishes. We couldn't get service pretty much the entire time we were there, even when waving our hands above our head for attention. The waitress forgot to give me the drink I ordered (my favorite rum on the rocks), so I asked about it toward the end of the meal. Turns out they made it right after I ordered, but forgot to bring it to me. It had just been sitting there the entire time, ice melting. The waitress grabbed it, handed it to me, and then promptly took it back. I watched the bartender take the exact same watered down drink, pour it over fresh ice and hand it to the waitress to give back to me. Obviously, it had no bite and tasted like nasty watered down liquor. I asked them to take it back and take it off the bill because we just wanted to leave at that point. This restaurant is an oasis in a desert of fast food. I found it after giving up on ordering in the food court where the kiosk computer screen didn't work and I didn't have their app. The Local wasn't very busy at 10 am on Thursday and the waitress took my order and brought me a big glass of water while I waited, briefly, for my meal. For under $20 I got two tacos with strips of perfectly grilled chicken breast and lots of tasty mex fillings and enough fresh tortilla chips to fill the rest of the plate. The meal was more than twice as satisfying as the almost $9 no-frills hamburger that I tried to order at the food court. The waitress processed my credit card, no problem. Worst service I had during g my entire week stay. Sad way to leave the island because there was NO ALOHA SPIRIT! I figure they know they can get away with it because you have no other options at the airport. I was NOT greeted by a woman named Chonchita who said not a word to me when I sat at the bar. She proceeded to rinse glasses and tend to her bar maintenance before even saying a word to me. I work in the service industry fur 13 years. If you are working behind a bar and can't get to someone immediately, you should at least greet them and tell them you will be right with them. I was never told hello or welcome. I left work at 3pm, only to get caught in tons of traffic. I didn't have time to shower before my flight (ugh) and I definitely didn't have time to grab dinner before leaving. But luckily checking in and going through TSA was so quick, I had time before my flight to grab something to eat at The Local. This is my first time dining here. My flights are typically at the crack of dawn, and the only places open are the food court and Starbucks. But I was starving after leaving TSA, and there it was, so conveniently located. I figured why not? Let's give it a try. After seating myself (it's a seat yourself restaurant), I began scouring through Yelp, and I immediately thought yikes! What did I just get myself into??? Everything was getting mediocre reviews. So I turned off my phone, and took a look at the menu. As to be expected with airport food, the prices are ridiculous. There goes one star. I didn't dare order an alcoholic drink because I was afraid of what the bill was going to be afterwards. Just water for me, thanks! I decided to order the Island Spiced Chicken Quesadillas, and I'm actually really glad I did! There was good flavor, and the avocado crema just nailed it. I was just a little hungry afterwards so I ordered a dessert. They have molten chocolate cake, and the Local Delight. What's that?? It's grilled pineapple sponge cake with chopped pineapple on top, served with a sweet fruity sorbet and coconut flakes. This dessert is TOTALLY right up my alley. Minus the coconut flakes. But I survived, and left smiling :) Also the servers here are awesome. So friendly, so much aloha spirit. I can see myself returning in cases of extreme hunger. read more

Let's start from the top. First they tried seating us at a table that shouldn't even have been there. It's one of those tables restaurants try to squeeze in so they can make an extra few bucks. We declined and waited for a table more suitable to humans than gnomes was available. Then we waited probably 10 minutes before a waitress even acknowledged our existence. Another five minutes we were asked if we would like to order. I ordered a coke. My fiancé ordered a cocktail. 25 minutes later she has her cocktail but there's no coke to be found. We have watched at least six couples comes in, sit down, wait and finally leave without ever interacting with staff. I haven't gotten my food but they could serve me a surprise filet mignon and I wouldn't give them more than one star. Service matters. In short - go somewhere else. There's a good-sized space with plenty of tables, and the air conditioning was a very welcome reprieve from the hot and humid airport hallway. The server was prompt and made sure we got to our flight on time. My husband's BBQ kalua pork sandwich was flavorful and the meat was moist. My mahi mahi fish and chips were very freshly fried. I liked that the batter was super crispy but not at all thick or doughy. The fish tasted pretty good and actually wasn't fishy at all. I avoid most airport food and there is good reason. The Local @HNL is reason number 7539475437 that my first statement still holds true. We were looking for Kona brewing which used to be located here, but after scouring the airport, we realized Kona had become the Local. We didn't have much interest in any of the other food options we had walked by so decided to stay. First and foremost, service is painfully slow. That is one thing that is unacceptable for an airport restaurant. There were too many long gaps between ordering food, getting the food, asking for ketchup, asking for the check, etc. People have planes to catch! (Thankfully, we had enough time). If you are going to have the unfortunate destiny of eating here, you might want to let the waitress know how much time you have before your flight. The bf and I shared the Kalua pork sandwich. The pork was a little dry and a little under flavored. A little too underwhelming for me. The only thing that wasn't little was the fact that it was overpriced. Aloha, when leaving Hawaii, it's nice to have a little extra time to get a Kona brew before getting on the plane. Glad they kept the Kona beers on the menu. Really for airport food, it's pretty good. They have a nice variety of local & American dishes. My salad was huge with nice greens & well prepared chicken. No complaints here. Really good food and service! I ordered the mahi tacos but asked to have the fish fried. The happily did this for me and it was delicious! My husband got their burger and it was also very good! The only positive aspect of The Local (at Honolulu airport) was that they gave us a 10% discount due to the lengthy delay in delivering our breakfast. Issues galore: - filthy floor, really bad - dust bunnies covering the walls - barely hot coffee - delivered our meals to another table, so had to start ours over - when finally delivered, my order was wrong and had to go back - scrambled eggs, very skimpy serving, looked like 1 egg, not 2 Unfortunately limited restaurants open for breakfast at the airport, we should have gone to the Food Court. As this place is possibly the only place to eat in the airport that offers table service, the higher prices are to be expected. Decent menu and a good selection of local craft beer. Had a burger and fries. Both were bland but ok. The fries had visible seasoning, but were tasteless as well. Decor is definitely Hawaiian and fits the locale. There are aquariums throughout the seating area that have fish in them but were not lighted, so were difficult to view. Overall, a decent place to have a decent meal and beer in peace while waiting to board your flight. I'd definitely eat here again. read more

The dark & stormy was very expensive regardless of the table service or location of restaurant however I felt everything else was reasonably priced. The Bloody Mary was very good flavor wise but lacking in garnish which is partially why I order bloody Mary's. We ordered the pork nachos which were very good, we almost licked the plate clean. We also ordered the mozzarella flatbread, this had room for improvement. The sauce tasted straight from a can and the cheese just slid right off the crust. Service was good until it got busy. The QR code is terrible. It takes several tries for it to even work. Frustrated, we just ordered from the waitress. Then I was told I need to pay using the QR code. I was able to successfully pay using the QR code. I got up to leave and they claimed I didn't pay. I showed my bank statement of the pending transaction. They claimed that the two systems don't work together. They asked for my card. I reluctantly gave them my card. Now I have two charges pending for the same amount. They forgot to put the salsa on, so we asked the waitress for it and she brought us some in a little cup.
