    Pork Chiatsu

RESTAURANT IS INSIDE THE BAR, "Blue Tropix." Walk straight to the back where the booths are! I stumbled on this place quite by accident and ended up having a delicious home cooked style Asian fusion meal I won't forget! The owner, Charlie a chef who learned cooking from his Mom and has made these family recipes with his style! You will love the fast service and the perfect seasoning of these comfort foods made even later in the evening! I got the Pork Tonkatsu, puctured below and the portions were large! You can also grab a drink at the bar while you ate here. I had the Pork Tonkatsu!

We've only ordered takeout so far twice, but the food tastes super fresh and well seasoned. I'm not sure but the Char siu bao taste like they're made in house fresh. Everything we've gotten so far has been fantastic!

Egg Rolls, we already ate a few

Ordered takeout once and ate in once. Food is great, had the short ribs, egg rolls, fried rice, and pan fried spicy pork and cheese buns. The spicy pork is more Szechuan pepper spicy, a pleasant surprise. Everything was tasty and we'd get it again. Still have to try the stir fry udon, chicken wings, beef shank, pot stickers, and more. They are located in Tropics bar so be prepared for that. It can get noisy especially if they have live music that night. Dining in had a two drink minimum. There is happy hour with food specials.

Lost my old account so I had to create new account to give this amazing place a review. We have been going to this place since forever and they have never failed to amazed us with the quality of the food. The food is always so good and they give us a lot. Definitely worth what you pay for! We always get the Mini Caramelized Belly and Pan Fried Spicy Pork Bun w/Cheese5buns and steak since my husband loves steak. But there Cheese buns are so amazing and unique you can never find them anywhere else. Definitely worth a try!!

    Grilled chicken wings

This hidden gem is in Blue Tropix bar at Pearridge. The food is really tasty and good portions. We had House charsiu, caramelized pork belly, cheese wontons, and grilled chix wings. Check out their menu! Lots of stuff we still need to try!

They're located inside the Donquijote Food Court and have ample seating inside as well as outside. I went with the Wagyu burger, fries, and tossed salad, and all three were very tasty. The burger was juicy and flavorful, the fries were salty and crispy on the outside, and the tossed salad was light and the dressing paired perfectly with it. One thing to keep in mind: they make everything fresh to order, so the wait can be a little longer than your typical quick-service spot. I actually think the freshness is worth the extra time, but it's something to be aware of if you're in a hurry. Also tried the Apple Mint Mojito, which was delicious--light, refreshing, and a great complement to the burger. One tip: If you prefer your burger more well-done, definitely let them know when you order. The burger can come out on the rarer/juicier side, so communicate your preferred doneness upfront. Overall, a tasty meal with quality ingredients and a nice made-to-order feel. 5/5 stars and I'd definitely come back.

Just right beside the Don Quijote food court is a cute place called Naks Cafe as this cozy spot offers quite the extensive menu from pasta, sandwiches and various plates though it all sounds amazing the prices were quite up there as well knowing that times are tough I couldn't see myself having French toast bites for $16.85 but badly need to refuel after a long day of errands. Seeing that they had soup of the day sounded very comforting and it was Japanese Corn Soup sounded perfect it was that along with a cup of Apple Mint Mojito sounded like the perfect combo strange as it may sound but I did enjoy it. The staff was very friendly as they brought out my items to me as I waited outside at the food court not just as it's a tiny place but no air-condition at all as it was very hot and humid in there was quite concerning and hope they have a fan or something to keep them cool which the drink certainly did that for me and I really enjoyed this refreshing sip. As for the soup it was very nice and hot and had a nice light flavor it just tasted like the instant soup I get from the store it wasn't like the corn was fresh especially since it claims to be house-made I was slightly disappointed but did come with two little pieces of garlic bread which did elevate it more still couldn't save my disappointment considering it was $9.85 over $17 with my drink, it gave me the much needed comfort as I just wanted some hot soup which I was so happy to find in the convenience right beside Don Quijote food court. Thank you!

I had the tonkatsu curry, and as a big curry fan, it's good. Tonkatsu wasn't too oily, meat was juicy, and the curry taste was taste-in. I've also had the poke nachos, shrimp/vegetable tempura, and various bento dishes--always at least solid. Finally, appreciate the servers. Depending on when you go, it can get busy, but we've never had to wait too long for food and waters get refiled/plates get cleared. The underneath parking can get tight as well. Will definitely be back because all other dishes we had were great and service was attentive and efficient! Original review: Service and staff were stellar. But the chicken katsu was one of the worst I've ever had on O'ahu. The chicken katsu was greasy and soaked in old oil that tasted rancid and oxidized, which made the panko a disappointingly saturated mess. The panko was way too browned, and neither flaky or freshly crunchy like katsu should truly be, and was a far cry from the photo in the menu. The poor, fatty chicken quality and the rubbery skin left on the chicken pieces just added to the gristly and chewy nature of the katsu. Charging customers these prices for this kind of subpar quality chicken is absolutely insulting, and we couldn't even finish the dish. It's such a disappointment to write this kind of review, but others need to know what they're getting when they order katsu at Gyotaku.

That spot has since closed (now home to Shaka Ramen), so when I learned about the new locations, I knew exactly where I was having dinner on my last night on the island. The two waitresses at the Pearl City location were incredibly sweet and efficient. They took our orders quickly and constantly scanned the dining room to make sure every guest had what they needed; drink refills and anything else. The interior was well lit and adorned with Japanese style kitchen curtains and posters of their most-popular ramen. The light wood on the walls and comfortable seating offered a great place to enjoy their amazing food! I ordered the spicy, flavor-packed Tan Tan Ramen along with their signature fried rice. I couldn't resist the gyoza and was hungry enough to go for six pieces instead of the usual four that come with the combo. What sets the Tan Tan ramen apart is its signature broth: a rich, creamy, and spicy blend made with sesame paste and chili oil. It has a wonderful nutty depth that perfectly coats the thick noodles and pairs beautifully with the toppings. The ramen is highly customizable, so I added extra chashu pork and Ajitama, a soft-boiled egg. The thick, spicy, and savory broth delivered an outstanding flavor profile. If you like spicy ramen, I highly recommend the Tan Tan or try the Spicy Tonkotsu...! The restaurant was easy to find in the Pearl City Shops. While it's not huge, Daiichi Ramen now has multiple locations across Hawaiʻi (Pearl City, Kahala, Kailua, plus Kailua-Kona and Hilo on the Big Island), so you're almost guaranteed to find a seat. We have no choice since the Kahala one is close for renovations at this point in time. When our food arrived, it looked okay. I took a bite of my carrot tempura, and it was pretty raw - this is going to be a sign of things to come. When I bit into my first shrimp tempura, it had a rather odd texture to it: nevermind the shrimp was really small, but the batter was overwhelming and made me queazy. I would later find out that the tempura was cooked in too-cold oil. This causes the tempura to soak a lot of oil (and undercook like the carrot I had first). There was at least a teaspoon of "clear" liquid at the bottom of our bowls, which I had initially thought it was liquid draining from the curry (sauce). I got a (white) paper napkin and dipped the corner in it - yes, it was oil. So too-cold oil and / or didn't bother to drain the tempura of excess oil. Yes, it made me sick, and I had to use the bathroom several times that night to get rid of it all. (I don't have a strong gallbladder, so excessive oily and fatty foods cause me to run to the toilet.) Rather disappointed the tempura was cooked like that. The curry was not that great either - felt like it had been cooking for several days now. For a "specialty" restaurant that supposed to be able to cook tempura properly, it was really sad.
