Needed to find a spot on route to the airport from waikele so decided to try this spot. Unusual in that it's located inside the Blue Tropics bar. If you order takeout there's one menu online but if you dine in there's a happy hour menu from 3-6 plus bar menu. The catch if you dine in is that there's a 2 drink minimum per person at regular prices. All dishes came out piping hot (except ahi poke) and fresh . The happy hour dishes were wonderful, especially the manapuas! The spicy pork cheese manapua were great and a bit different. The chasui manapua were delicious. Garlic fries were extra crispy, lots of garlic but greasy. The poke fresh and lemon pepper salt wings crispy but juicy. So all in all a great option for happy hour goodness. read more

A friend of mine posted food from here on his story and it looked so good I had to ask where it was from so I could try it for myself. Location: Kitchen Deja Vu is located inside the Blue Tropix Bar & Grill, which just so happens to be right across the Chili's from Pearlridge Center. Parking: Plenty! You can park anywhere in the Pearlridge Center parking lot Food: We ordered 5 items 1) pan fried pork cheese buns: 10/10 - pillowy soft bread expertly soaks up all the juices from the pork filling, perfectly pan fried bottom adds a bit of crunchy texture, pork filling was seasoned well and there was a decent amount of cheese inside as well (it was giving pizza flavor vibes), supposedly "spicy" but it wasn't too bad at all so this would be good even for those with a low spice tolerance 2) pulehu style short ribs: 10/10 - incredible smoked and grilled flavor, cooked and seasoned to perfection! They're not stingy either, nice portion size and a hearty amount of meat on each short rib too 3) big shrimp potstickers: 11/10 - succulent pork & shrimp filling filled to the brim of wrapper! Very on brand because these buggahs was massive and sooo tasty! Classic potsticker taste and there's a whole shrimp in there too, paired with their shoyu vinegar (I think) sauce and wooo this one was winnnahz ‍ 4) charsui udon: 10/10 - nice & chewy udon noodles and absolutely loaded with charsui and veggies that were so wonderfully stir fried allowing them to soften just a little but remain crispy, adding another layer of texture to the dish and ensuring you get a nice little crunch in every bite! 5) kau yuk (caramelized pork belly): 10/10 - big chunks of sweet & savory pork belly, but not as sweet as the name would have you think. It's actually perfectly balanced, you can definitely taste some authentic asian spices going on in there, and the meat was nice and tender Service: 11/10 We ordered take out but you can absolutely dine in if you wanted to, plenty of booths and/or tables to choose from. But I did wanna mention that we were lucky enough to meet Charlie, the owner! Really nice guy, after we gave him our order, our server Kyle took such good care of us. Checked in on us multiple times & offered to get us some water while waiting for our food. Overall: 10/10 Food was delicious, the chefs obviously know what's good, hats off to them! Visiting Hawaii for vacation and met the owner through a Duke's revenge scavenger hunt tour which i recommend. The owner invited us to his resturant and we couldnt resist a food invite. Now the experience was welcoming and the food was even better. we literally tried everything on the menu (New York Steak, Ahi Nachos, Brisket, Pork/beef buns, udon noodles shrimp and beef, onion rings etc...) I found the meats to be tender and everything to have really good flavor. The owner came out and his mom which made us feel like we were apart of the family. Came here to order takeout the other night for a quick bite. It took over an hour to get our food. We ordered the Pork Belly, New York Steak, Roast Beef, and shrimp Fried Rice , and Spicy Ahi Bowl. The food wasn't that great and the ahi was very fishy and the texture was very off. Took one bite and a couple of my friends who live here told me to call and complain because it tasted like it went bad but I chose to write yelp review. Spent about $15 for the poke to just go straight into the trash smh. Everything else was very underwhelming... Every time I come to Hawaii I'm always excited to eat somewhere new because almost all places my friend take me are very satisfying. Definitely not trusting Yelp as much when I come out here anymore. Besides the ahi everything was about 5/10. Roast beef was tough and a friend of ours said it tasted like dog food. New York steak was seasoned well but was pretty cold and a bit under cooked to my liking. Everything else decent but nothing to rave about. I just can't believe we waited so long for our food to come out that bad/unsatisfying. Grabbed takeout dinner from over here on a lazy night. Got the Cajun ribeye, short ribs, and the jumbo shrimp potstickers. Curbside pick up was smooth but it does block one lane on Pali Momi if that is something that gives you anxiety. Food comes with a scoop of rice and Mac salad for each entree plate. Cajun ribeye was ordered rare and it was rare when we got home to eat it. Had a nice flavor and kick that I enjoyed, but was a bit much for my wife who does not eat spicy much. Short ribs did not have excessive fat and had a good flavor. They actually messed up our order and gave us just normal potstickers instead of the jumbo shrimp ones. They made up for it by delivering it to our house! I gotta say we came out ahead because the normal potstickers were good and the jumbo shrimp ones were good too! The food is fantastic and the service is excellent. Have to have a little patience because it a small team but guarantee it's worth it. Only thing I wish I had with my sizzling steak is a little A1 sauce. I didn't ask so don't know if they have or not but everything was ono (good). The potstickers, pork belly, manipua char sui, sizzling steak, and ofc rice/Mac salad. Definitely give this place a try for some good eats. It's conveniently located in Blue Tropix ordered the Sirloin Steak, shrimp dumplings, and fried wonton. Steak is moist and cooked to perfection. Wonton is fried extra crispy golden brown and full of meat. Best for last is the homemade shrimp and meat pan fried dumplings. It was a pleasant yet interesting discovery finding the restaurant because I wasn't anticipating it to be a bar. In fact, the kitchen that caters the food for the Blue Tropix Bar is "Deja Vu," which is a separate entity according to the owner Charlie, who by way, was very welcoming personable, friendly, and accomodating. Near the entrance is the restroom and he was heading there until he saw us. He took notice right away that we looked a bit confused when we walked in. We would've headed out the door had he not stopped us, and I'm so glad he did. My husband and I are not the usual bar patrons, we just wanted to try the food that we saw on Yelp. The owner was very attentive and welcoming and asked if we were here for the bar or here to just eat. He guided us to the seating area and handed our menus and the rest was history. We weren't certain on what to order so he basically gave us an overview of the menu and popular dishes, which is not always done unless you ask. I didn't post any of our dishes that we ordered because it would've been redundant since you already see pictures of the food from other reviewers so..... We had the bacon shrimp skewers, fried gizzards, and the grilled steak and mushrooms. All soooooo yummy! The bacon wrapped shrimp was cooked perfectly. It wasn't under or over cooked, neither was the shrimp. It wasn't overly seasoned or marinated.. When the shrimp is over seasoned/marinated adding bacon increases the risk of it being too salty and you loose the shimp flavor. It obvious the chef is very skilled because it was totally scrumptious!Sizzling steak plated on a cast iron pan literally still sizzling as it was heading towards our table. Steak was so tender and medium rare as it could be and I enjoyed devouring every piece of steak and what looked and tasted like shitake mushrooms. Again, perfectly seasoned all around. To those who love fried gizzards, you'll totally enjoy it! Batter ratio and crispiness was perfect!Server was consistantly attentive as well as the owner. Easy to miss, but im glad i gave it a try. I was looking for takeout in aiea and came across Deja Vu on yelp. I rried the two types of pan-seared manapua but the pork and cheese one made my tongue do a happy dance because i like spicy (but NOT burn the mouth and you cant taste anything kind of spicy). The shrimp potsticker was delightful, just as others have said. The tonkatsu was lean, yet not too dry. The won ton had lots of meat, like gau gee. And the simmered beef wasnt what i expected, but still good. The best way i can desceibe it is that it's like pot roast, but with chinese flavors. The wings were yummy. I definitely will be back. We were looking for local food and they were what we were hoping for. Salt pork, caramelized pork belly, fried chicken, and hand maid dumplings. All of them great. Bento boxes paired those off with rice and fluffy eggs. A side of fresh green beans with salt pork really hit the spot. My daughter didn't want to share a bite of the macaroni salad. Very unexpected but so happily pleased with both my service and my meal quality, I stumbled across this kitchen while looking for places that would feed myself and my brother later in the night compared to most other places. The chef Charlie is a super good guy sociable and good at what he does, I got the prime rib and pan spicy pork bun, both of which hit more than the expectations for price and flavor.
