Would highly recommend a look if you want a casual but upscale wine bar off Memorial that offers a light menu of food and equally good service.

The space is pretty and welcoming with friendly staff, open walls, and big windows. I sat on the patio with some girlfriends with memberships who invited me out for the day. It overlooks a few rows of vines along with herbs and vegetables, which makes it feel peacefully designed. The cheese board was fantastic with a generous spread and variety. The wines were lovely too with bottles from different regions. If you're in Houston I recommend checking out Nice Winery and considering a membership. Unfortunately, they no longer had it, which was disappointing but understandable. What stood out more was the service. Each time my husband asked the bartender a question about other beers he could try like the one he had, the responses felt short and dismissive, and the answer was essentially "no" every time. My husband remained patient and friendly throughout, but I believe good service is a big part of what makes an experience enjoyable. That said, the place itself is cute, clean, and has a nice atmosphere. Overall, I'm glad we gave it a try, but I'm not sure I would return.

A group of nine coworkers and I went to Bar Bludorn for happy hour on a Thursday…read more We had a reservation for eight, but they were able to quickly accommodate an additional person, which we appreciated. Since our work schedules didn't allow us to get there earlier enough to sit at the bar, we booked for 5 p.m., right as dinner service started. We were really there to enjoy happy hour: cocktails, wine and a few bar bites rather than a full dinner. That seemed to cause a little confusion. When our server asked about dinner, we explained that we were just going to hang out, drink and snack. Almost immediately, all of the menus were taken and the dessert menu appeared, which felt a little awkward considering we had barely gotten started. There were also some service quirks throughout the evening. Our server had very animated hand gestures and body language when pouring drinks and setting things down. Almost a little too theatrical for the setting. It's not a fine-dining restaurant, so some of the formal flourishes felt unnecessary. She also missed a couple of things. I ordered a sidecar alongside my first dirty gin martini, but the sidecar didn't arrive until my second martini. Not a huge deal, but noticeable. The drinks themselves were solid. I had two Condesa gin martinis, both super dirty and bruised or skating (AKA lots of little ice chips). I also appreciated that the blue cheese olives are hand-stuffed. For food, I ordered the country ham beignets, which were cute little bites, plus one fried oyster and one baked oyster. The baked oyster was very flavorful, and the presentation with the oysters nestled among the rocks was really nice. Unfortunately, the fried oyster was almost entirely batter and was so overcooked that the oyster itself was chewy enough that I couldn't finish it. Thankfully, I only ordered one. I do like that you can mix and match the oyster preparations, though, and that they're priced per oyster: $2 each regardless of the style (raw, baked, fried). There was live music, and the restaurant got surprisingly packed for a weekday, which made it pretty loud while we there. That's understandable given how busy it became, but it did make conversation a little harder with a larger group. Still, I'd consider the overall experience a good one. Bar Bludorn is already a go-to, and one slightly overcooked oyster and some over-the-top service quirks certainly aren't enough to keep me away.

Good news is, you can park in the big parking lot on front of Hando's and walk from there. Not ideal when the weather sucks, but you don't really have a choice. And though the coffee shop's address is technically off Long Point, you can't see it from Long Point. It's on the other side of the shopping center. Google Maps does a good job showing you where the entrance is. The ambiance: I love how spacious the coffee shop is. There is plenty of seating and I appreciate that. The staff are also nice. Sometimes the line to order can get really long but that's because customers usually can't make up their minds. The menu is fairly extensive so pros and cons there. Now for the coffee: I've tried their speciality drinks, the hot brewed coffee, and flat white. They are all OK. Not bad but not great. Not enough strong coffee flavor in my opinion. Flavors are a little off but get the job done. Prices are fair - maybe a tad on the pricey side. Worth it if you're going to sit inside the coffee shop and get work done or meet up with friends. I would go here to meet with friends but not necessarily for the best coffee in town.
