Pizza is great, the field green salad is always fresh and the staff is always friendly. What more could you ask for

Terrible service. Waited 20 minutes for service and never got anything,. Could hope services gets. Not good at all

After a lovely music performance at a nearby winery, we were in the mood for some pizza on a warm summer evening. When I pulled into this historic downtown, I didn't expect to see the welcoming courtyard of the Lantern, complete with market lights and plenty of space to spread out, especially great for families with children. The pizza was as delicious as it looked and came out quickly! The servers and clients all seemed very happy, and it's easy to see why. There's plenty of parking in town within a short walk. I contemplated writing this review. But after spending $50 on 2 seltzers, a beet side, hot dog, and pizza I felt I needed to share how insane it is that everyone expects a tip when you have to get your own food, drinks, utensils, bus your own table too. We walked in to a group of employees posted up at the bar hanging out. Pretentious attitudes from employees. Pizza was really good but I have been a server/bartender for over 10 years. I bust my butt all day making sure customers have a memorable experience and they are comfortable. Nothing is earned here. We even told the girl at the food end it was our first time here and she did nothing to go out of her way to make sure we knew how the ordering system worked and I had to run back and fourth and get utensils, napkins, and plates. I literally felt like I was at work. Customer service is everything. Having a personality with customers is everything.This place is crossed off my list. It's a shame because the building is beautiful and has a ton of potential. Like a Cheers atmosphere. A shame they are settling for it to be a city folk hangout where nothing stands out and employees don't care to be personable. read more

FYI I was a regular here before the lockdowns. It was awesome! Cheap STRONG drinks, amazing staff and funny local old timers with stories for days. Can (used to be) be fun sitting outside with a cold beverage when there's a band during the spring-autumn. Used to be a lot more enjoyable before the 'Rona hit w the lockdowns. Seems as if the old timers who used to hang out at the bar are no longer frequenting the place. First time visiting here was awesome back in @ late summer 2016 when the bar was poppin' and the world wasn't so angry at everything. Kinda seems like the staff would rather be somewhere else than serving entitled city folk and their bratty/unruly/spoiled children. Who could blame em'? Miss those days when the bartenders knew regulars by name and treated us like family. Times change, people/places/things change... totally get it. So, not trying to be negative or debbie downer... Just an honest review. Hence, the three stars even though I wouldn't say it's quite there... More like 2.5 stars tbh. Very, very kid friendly to the point of being super loud and annoying. Inattentive parents allow their children (of all ages) to run around and play as if it's a schoolyard or public playground created specifically for their use. Look, I'm fine with kids when they're behaved... But the sheer sense of entitlement that (some of) these uppity city slickers display while dining al fresco with their families and friends was enough to sway me not to go back. The adults sit at their picknick tables, chat/drink/eat while allowing all their kids to go buck wild and just do whatever they want while screaming/crying, running/jumping around kicking/picking-up/throwing gravel and dust. Let's flip the script... If a grown man (or group of adults) were to show up at a public playground, crack a tall boy, open a nip of whiskey, blast a bluetooth and spark up a preroll... he'd/they'd be arrested. Not exactly the best analogy but, ya' get the picture. Parents need to control their children. I heard one mother speaking to her out of control screaming son (maybe 4-6 yrs old) in a manner which sounded like a bad SNL skit while saying stuff like "Can we please just discuss this and why you're not happy with the menu options, you said your wanted pizza... So please tell me why you're feeling so upset and let daddy and I see if we can accommodate you." I mean... what the? Talk about over-parenting. What happened to a good old fashioned "time-out" for kids when they're acting out in a public setting like this place? Childless grown up patrons are expected to just ignore and pretend like this kiddie "takeover" isn't happening... because, heaven forbid anyone speaks up. You'd get dog-piled by the parental mob for suggesting they might wanna "control" their wild monsters who're often times hopped up on sugary sodas, ice cream and candy. If you're ISO a peaceful, inexpensive, al fresco dining experience in a country setting... DO NOT GO HERE! read more

Extremely rude bar manager who picks fights with patrons most of them women. The owners are aware of his issues and don't seem to care.

This place has good food and atmosphere but the prices have gone up way too much and they tack on 20% tip automatically. You set your own table. You clear your own table. You get your own drinks. You look for your own box for left overs. They get the tip for you doing all the work. Disappointed how this place has evolved this way. read more

Best pizza around (we always always always get the Norma Jean!), best bartenders around, and manages to have the chillest atmosphere even when it's packed. Very cool find in the small town of Wassaic. It is so close to the Four Brothers Drive-In but you have to search to find it. The elote pizza and kale pizza were very cool twists on a great Neapolitan soft and thin pizza. The neighborhood has amazing artist galleries. They were setting up for live music outside and I imagine it would be a great place to drink with friends. read more

I want to hate this place. I want to hate everything about it. But I can't, and I don't. For instance, who the f*ck would put kale on a pizza? Right? You want to hate that person and you want to hate that pizza. But you know what? That's one of the best pizzas I've ever had. And why would you ever put honey on a pizza? That's stupid and annoying. Like, tell me you want to put honey on a pizza and I'm going to question every positive thing I know about you. Except that pizza is delicious, too. So if you're in the area, like within a 40 minute drive, please do yourself a favor and eat here. I'll point out that it's very kid friendly. Which is to say, if you hate kids you may actually hate this place, because there are going to be kids doing the things that kids do. read more

Food was pretty good and the people were nice; but the 20 percent gratuity assessed on bill up front, regardless of party size (we were a party of 3) is unacceptable. We bussed our own table, literally: fetched water bottles, water tumblers, and even ketchup. When I asked the server if we could have ketchup for our burgers, she directed me to a table where I could find packets. I was up and down the entire meal, clearing the table, placing dishes into rubber tubs. For what was I tipping?! This place is not fast food; it's a sit down restaurant. If you're going to charge me Chipotle prices, then I'll gladly bus my own table. Also, you can't put a check down? You have to charge up front? What if we didn't like the food or the service, the latter of which we didn't? Stop using COVID19 as an excuse to add fees. read more

My wife and I recently moved up to Dutchess County where we had been weekenders for many years. Among the very few regrets we've had is the lack of good local casual eating spots, till last night when we found The Lantern Inn...terrific wood fired pizza, crust is made with double 00 flour and done right. The burger was locally sourced meat seasoned to perfection and nicely seared while still maintaining the rare request. The ordering/food runner process needs a lot of help but it really doesn't matter in this place, such a great vibe, plan on hanging out and don't be in a rush. I'm sure our next experience will go smoother since we now understand the routine...we will become regulars...hopefully the menu will expand as they come into the outdoor season. Saw reviews for the Lantern here on yelp and decided to go try it as we are visiting the area for the weekend. We had buffalo wings, the pizza with soppresata and honey, and the carbonara pizza! This is my favorite bar / restaurant in the area. The pizza is top notch; it's a mix of locals, weekenders, and visitors. There's a pool table and a dope outdoor seating area with a fire. Sometimes it's quiet and dive-y; sometimes there are lots of families. I like the variety. I've tried a few of the Wednesday night specials (taco bowls, fish and chips, fried chicken) and several of the pizzas.-- I love the Heartthrob! And the French fries. I'm glad they have ginger beer now for extra kick in the well-priced mixed drinks. I only wish the Wednesday specials had a little more spice in them. The Lantern is back in action with socially distanced dining! The big outdoor space allows for ample elbow room, and we enjoyed our first family outing since the pandemic kicked off. They have a couple new pizzas on the menu - I tried a pineapple pizza with skepticism but really enjoyed it. The pineapple really just adds a touch of sweetness to offset the salt of the bacon and cheese - it might be my new favorite. We accompanied our pizzas with blackberry-bourbon slushies, much better than they sound. Good to see the Lantern back in action and we will return again soon. read more

The pizza is some of the bet in the area, with some interesting toppings (I'm partial to the kale, egg, and lemon oil - trust me - it's great). The outside seating area is really pleasant when it's warm out, and there's often a campfire going outside. Plus there's good beer! A nice relaxing place to eat and hang out with friends. read more

My family and I had dinner at the Lantern Inn on a Friday night. The place seems like it has a nice casual vibe, the pizza was quite good and I liked the IPA on tap that I ordered. I do think the service needs work. My husband did not get the pizza he ordered and the waiter threw it down on the table and walked away so fast he didn't even get a chance to tell her. Rather than run after her and have to wait for the correct order, my husband just ate the one he got. When he got up to pay, he didn't come back for about 15 minutes. He said there was no one waiting but he couldn't get the attention of the people behind the bar who were chatting with each other. Then apparently someone the bartender knew came up to pay and they helped that person while my husband was still standing there. I'll give this place another chance because I know how these things are--but the manager should talk to their staff about good service. read more

Ok, so stop in for a $15 00, 12" pizza and cocktail when the bartender delivers me a Southern Comfort Manhattan with so much bitters that it looks the color of a black cherry soda pop. When I politely say I can't drink it I suggest that she pours it into a larger glass with more ice and another shot of SoCo to try to save it. One pizza and cocktail later, I can still taste the bitters in my mouth, I was presented with the $15.40, cent check, not including tax for the nasty concoction. When I asked her if it was correct she got rather snooty and I asked if next time I should just refuse the drink to which she replied Yes. I tried to explain I had bartender for more years then she had been alive and I never heard of anyone being up charged for trying to fix a mistake. No use. Can't fix inexperience. Needless to say we won't be heading back there...so, so disappointed. read more

I truly loved coming to this place it made me feel so comfortable surrounded by like minded people. I travel 30 minutes to come here every time. I haven't been since last Fall and decided to pay a visit tonight. I don't know what happened but the vibe is completely different, the bartenders were so unhappy and rude, and I didn't feel that comfort I once depended on once I stepped inside. It seemed cold. I hope the owner hasn't changed because I met him when Chris, Cassie, and Meghan worked here and I LOVED this place so much. I'm sad to even leave this review. I'm hoping it's an off season issue and once the warm weather kicks in everything will continue to be the same old Lantern that I love. read more

I"d like to give a review of The Lantern Inn's food but we never actually got any food. I do, however, have something to say about the service. We went in at 3:15 on a Sunday. Staff was working busily around the order counter but ignored us. Then one guy went by and slapped a big "CLOSED" sign on the register. and walked away. I asked if they weren't open and a waitress finally turned to look at us and said no. It was puzzling since the sign on the their door clearly states their hours on Sunday as 3:00 to 7:00. We turned to leave and the guy behind the counter took the opportunity to shout out "Hours on the door, guys!" He went out of his way to be a jerk and was wrong to boot.
