Was a good place at one time. Went in to place an order for a couple pies about a month ago at 8pm. Person behind the counter told me they shut off the oven because they close at 9pm and can't take pizza order. I left and placed an order at another pizza place 15 minutes later who was still taking orders. Tonight I attempted to call Mateos to place an order. It sounded like the phone was picked up and hung up. I called back 2 more times and got the same result. I see on their website you can place an order online, which costs a fee. The order has to be paid by credit card. No thanks! Mateo's just lost a customer. With the way rents are, they should not be turning away business. read more

I ordered the dinner dish pasta bolognese. It had a miniature of chop meat. The sauce was not red marinara sauce. It was a creme sauce. Traditional sauce has tomato base made with tomatoes, garlic, basil,(oregano), and olive oil. No Creme. I did enjoy the salad. As for calling them and letting them know they had the wrong order. My wife and I have been buying takeout meals, pizzas and salads here since they opened. Three times I was screwed over by them in excessive charges. The first time, we wrote it off as a poor judgment call on their part, because I ordered a sausage parmesan hero. They do not have that precise item on their menu, so they charged me for a sausage, pepper and onion hero, but held the peppers and onions and added cheese. The problem is that they charged me for the original hero after holding the peppers and onions and charged me $5 on top of the original $10.95 making it now $15.95 for just sausage and cheese. The second time, I ordered a sausage Parm dinner. They gave me a sausage, peppers, and onions entre, salad, bread and pasta. I Asked if they would hold the peppers and onions, but make sure the cheese remained on the pasta. WRONG again! They charged me the original dinner entre price of $16.99 + $5. for the cheese, making my entre $21.99... Tonight I ordered a meat lovers Stromboli and had them hold the pepperoni, Soppressata, and salami, but make sure it had Provolone, Mozzarella and the ham for me...my wife only wanted the cheeses and no meat. They charged me $8.95 times 2 for cheese strombolis and THEN, charged an additional $10.00 for extra cheese. So for two stupid strombolis it cost us $29.05. I could have simply ordered two meat lovers strombolis (for $10.95 each) totaling $23.65 with all the ingredients, and thrown the salami, Soppressata, and pepperoni away, saving me money rather than them. I'll never return and I'll tell all my friends how they ripped us off. Rip me once, shame on you....do me twice, shame on me...the third time is a strike out. Game over. After three times of nickel diming me....I will go to Angels on route 23 where you are appreciated and treated right and their food is just as good...(and the pizza is way better) read more

I had family and friends over, and I ordered 3 Sicilian pizzas, two plain and one veggie. All 3 were excellent. The food here is excellent. Most importantly, the entire family who runs and works at Mateo's are so wonderful and very hard working people. You never know when you see a pizza by the slice place, it is always rolling the dice. Might I suggest no hesitation! Head directly to Mateo's, I only ordered a Nonna's slice, square pizza with mozzarella, tomato, pesto. If a slice is good, you know a whole pie will be delicious. Friendly service, great pricing and good quality ingredients. It was a perfect slice, I might have to stop by again before I head out of the area, it is that good! read more

Couple things to note that make Mateo's different from other pizza places in the area - they encourage and USE an app/website/online ordering. And it appears they have an actual pizza oven?! Like, look at the blistering and char on the pizza and wings and beef patty!! Everything was good. Nothing was exceptional, nothing was gross. Because this was our first visit, we got a pepperoni pizza - the standard by which all pizza is measured. I saw a few things on their menu that you can't get elsewhere, always appreciate that. THEY HAVE BEEF PATTIES. As far as I know up here, they're relegated to the DrugMarts and wannabe bodegas....this was good! I would've preferred it with some cheese and hot sauce, but I'll be damned if I'm paying $1 for them to add a slice of cheese. I'll do it myself! I rounded up to 4 stars because our pizza was straight up cold. My husband said (he picked it up) that he thinks they waited to drop the wings until closer to pick up time, which is a nice idea. It was good cold, so I bet it would be really good warm. We'll definitely be back. read more

Ordered in again. The food was delicious! On-time delivery. Very courteous. Now, pay close attention, Yelpers, because this doesn't happen alot these days... I called them after the delivery because they left the chicken off my mom's chicken Alfredo. I politely explained (these things do happen afterall). They immediately put a manager on the phone who apologized and within 15 minutes they had hand-delivered a replacement (normally, delivery is through a service) and apologized again. No charge. Really, gotta love these folks. That is old school service. A dying breed. Well done, Mateo's. You have earned my loyalty! read more

I've tried several different items here over the last month or two. It gets better and better. I had an Italian Sub today that was incredible! They must have changed the bread supplier because it was on a really crunchy Italian sub roll. It was a big sandwich and was piled pretty high and came with everything...It was $11 and worth every penny. The pizza is the best in the area and the people running it are great!
