You never know when you see a pizza by the slice place, it is always rolling the dice. Might I suggest no hesitation! Head directly to Mateo's, I only ordered a Nonna's slice, square pizza with mozzarella, tomato, pesto. If a slice is good, you know a whole pie will be delicious. Friendly service, great pricing and good quality ingredients. It was a perfect slice, I might have to stop by again before I head out of the area, it is that good!

Couple things to note that make Mateo's different from other pizza places in the area - they encourage and USE an app/website/online ordering. And it appears they have an actual pizza oven?! Like, look at the blistering and char on the pizza and wings and beef patty!! Everything was good. Nothing was exceptional, nothing was gross. Because this was our first visit, we got a pepperoni pizza - the standard by which all pizza is measured. I saw a few things on their menu that you can't get elsewhere, always appreciate that. THEY HAVE BEEF PATTIES. As far as I know up here, they're relegated to the DrugMarts and wannabe bodegas....this was good! I would've preferred it with some cheese and hot sauce, but I'll be damned if I'm paying $1 for them to add a slice of cheese. I'll do it myself! I rounded up to 4 stars because our pizza was straight up cold. My husband said (he picked it up) that he thinks they waited to drop the wings until closer to pick up time, which is a nice idea. It was good cold, so I bet it would be really good warm. We'll definitely be back.

    Thanks Tony!!! Love the girls!!

If you told me I'd find some of the best seafood of my life in landlocked Southern Vermont, I…read moreprobably wouldn't have believed you--but Anchor Seafood House & Grille is the real deal. This place has been a Wilmington staple since 1997, and you can tell they've spent the last nearly 30 years perfecting the craft. The atmosphere is incredible. While the original 1850s building was lost to a fire in 2010, the current space is a beautiful, faithful replica that feels historic and cozy. It's the perfect spot for a post-ski dinner or a summer night out. Here's the breakdown of what you need to order: The Chowder: This is proper New England clam chowder. It's thick, rich, and loaded with clams--not just a bowl of potatoes and heavy cream. It's the ultimate comfort food. Steamers: You have to start with the steamers. They are clean, sweet, and served the traditional way with a side of broth and drawn butter. It's a messy, delicious classic that they do perfectly here. Whole Belly Clams: These are the gold standard. They're lightly breaded, perfectly fried, and have that sweet, briny pop you usually only find at a roadside shack on the Maine coast. If you're a fan of "the bellies," don't skip these. The Lobster: I went for the steamed lobster, and it was impeccable. Succulent chunks of fresh meat and just the right amount of butter. It tasted like it was caught that morning. It's rare to find a spot that balances a "fancy night out" feel with such unpretentious, high-quality food. Whether you're a local or just passing through for the foliage, make sure you stop here.

This is a haute cuisine place that is masked by the casual dining atmosphere. Seriously: top notch chef, original recipes, a core dedication to quality seafood, paired with a fresh fish counter and some prepared food to go. We usually go for something special, but tonight I decided to get an old childhood standby, fried clams (the Boston Basket) and the fish burger sandwich. I did not expect either to be as transportive as they turned out to be. The fried clams were as delicately done as I've ever had: not crispy, but not too floppy, with excellent breading. And while I prefer my clams naked, we tried all three of the dipping sauces -- a remoulade, tartar sauce, and cocktail sauce. Now normally I loathe cocktail sauce and can take tartar sauce or leave it, so I figured we'd eat up the remoulade and ignore the other two. Still, I gave them little nibbles. Man! The cocktail sauce was like no other I've had, with a heavy hint of horseradish and a far fresher flavor than I've ever had. Then the tartar sauce -- genius! It had a delicate spicing, with capers providing a floral backdrop. That was only a preliminary, as the fish burger proved to be complex, with hints of multiple kinds of fish, and a fennel-based spicing. I ended up having that afterglow, as if I'd had a couple of cocktails and was sitting next to a fireplace, that is the hallmark of truly fine food at an advanced level. We also had the usual outstanding service, attentive without being pushy. I seriously think Hooked should consider splitting into two restaurants: one where the ambiance is upgraded to match the high caliber of the food, and another cheaper one that is strictly fast casual and takeout, and they'd more than double the business. There is a restaurant back where we come from in California, Turtle Bay, that did this with fine dining on one side and the quick, simple, and affordable food on the other side, with a big shared kitchen between them but with completely separate ambiances. That way I could come back more frequently, and still have the original Hooked for special occasions!

Well, the oysters were fantastic, and that's why I made the 35 mile trip. I hate city traffic!!!…read more I also had the calamari with peppers, also good. Not like rubber bands, tender. Now the downfall, the chicken sandwich. I did notice other plates coming to tables looking like the fryer temp. is too hot, or cook time was too long. Some fish fry that came out looked quite dark as did my chicken, as you can see! A slight burnt taste was evident. It had good flavor under that burn, and the chicken was close to not being juicy, almost dry. The place is clean, and if not for the location, I would sit at the bar and have the raw bar! Something very important to me that hit me the instant I stepped through the door, if you're looking for a great shot of A/C on a hot day, not here!!! Barely got comfortable from the almost 90 degree day on a bike, and then worked up a return of sweating as the place filled up.

*review is for upstairs menu*…read more My partner and I have been regularly visiting Hudson for seven (!) years now yet we never made a point of visiting this space when it was a barbeque spot. During our most recent visit, I took a walk up and down Warren to see if there were any new stores I wanted to investigate, and there was Saint Florian, cozy and inviting, emanating warmth. It was a particularly frigid weekend so the warmth part (plus the signage) really drew me in. Just a few hours later and there we were upstairs, eating some delicious food and not wanting to leave. Because the weather was miserable, a reservation opened up pretty quickly after I got on the Resy notify list (the restaurant also called me). The upstairs is only open on Fridays and Saturdays so we took advantage of it being a weekend, but the downstairs menu looks fantastic as well and has plenty of overlap with the upstairs menu, though as one would expect it's a bit more casual. While the downstairs was relatively empty, upstairs was almost completely full, pretty impressive for bad weather. Overall, the space itself is quite large and I'm excited to see it buzzing with more life in the warmer months, because it definitely has the potential (both in vibes and in food) to be one of the new go-to spots in Hudson. I think Saint Florian deserves closer to a 4.5 star rating, but the only letdown was the cocktails (the wine was fantastic). I got the Martini Classico w/ gin, which was decent but not even close to cold enough, while my partner got the Royal Punch (rum, citrus blend, maraschino, lime). He disliked it more than I did and he remarked that a squeeze from the lime wedge garnish improved the overall flavor profile, but it still was a lackluster drink. The wine was redeeming, though, as the red and orange we got were both excellent and described to us in impressive detail prior to us ordering them. Food-wise, Saint Florian definitely markets itself as a steakhouse but there are plenty of other exciting menu options in addition to steak. We ended up getting three appetizers and two smaller entrees and it was the perfect amount of food. Eats, below: Beet salad w/ winter citrus: A Definitely the winning appetizer of the night. It made great use of seasonal produce and was presented beautifully. All elements of flavor and texture you'd want are there - a light dusting of cheese, cashews for some crunch, microgreen garnish, thinly sliced beets and blood orange that were as flavorful as they were vibrant. NJ Big Eye Tuna Crudo w/ rhubarb, gooseberry, celery, chive: A- This was one of the nightly specials. A solid dish though the flavors were a bit muted for our liking. Still very good, with fresh fish with thinly sliced gooseberries for some sweetness (again, props for using winter produce and an underappreciated one at that). Could've been made even better with a little chip or crostini or something on the side to add some texture. Gem Lettuce Caesar w/ House Dressing, Boquerones, Cotija, Garlic Crumbs: A- Decent but not memorable. I enjoy whole anchovies in a Caesar but something about the way this was executed didn't quite do it for me. Still, if you like Caesar salads (and they are always a go-to at a steakhouse), this is still a good option. Steelhead trout with lentils, labneh: A The fish listed on the online menu is now a cod, so I'm glad I got this one instead - both because I prefer steelhead trout to cod and the accompanying elements in this one are more exciting to me than those being offered with the cod. Anyway, enough about that because this dish was stellar. I mean, look at the picture - how could this be bad? The fish was perfectly cooked, the lentils and labneh giving the dish some earthiness and heartiness while still somehow managing to be light. Really expertly done and I loved every bite. Petite Wagyu Filet w/ Brown Butter Bearnaise: A Though I am not a steak person, my partner very much is, so of course we had to try some steak. I had a bite of it at least, and it was very good (for steak, that is - even the best steak in the world doesn't really do it for me, but I can tell when it is well-done --- in quality, not temperature!!). The brown butter bearnaise was heavenly and my partner ended up wishing he had saved the leftover to put on various other things he ate during the remainder of the trip.

The bartenders there are very sweet and attentive, they help bring the whole experience there to 5 stars. I came on a Wednesday for the $17.99 lobster roll special and it was easily one of the best I've ever had. It is a quarter pound of lobster and you get actual lumps of claw and meat rather than the shredded stuff some other places serve. The butter it's sautéed in is seasoned delicately to accentuate the fresh lobster instead of covering up the taste. The portion was surprisingly large and it comes on a fresh bun that is lightly buttered and toasted. It even comes with a little cup of extra butter which I totally slathered on because I love butter! Every bite was so fresh and soft. The roll comes with fries and I did the optional $5 upcharge for the lobster bisque. That was also the best I've ever had because I've never seen bisque with such large chunks of lobster in it. It was just crazy good. Everything was well worth the price and I'd honestly come back even on days when it's not a special. They have something going on every night like the $9.99 burger and fries on Mondays, so that will definitely be my next reason to visit. I will be back for sure!
