12/13/25: wanted something quick & simple this morning so we popped in again. This time we arrived early enough to experience a wider selection of delectable treats. The young blonde behind the counter was far too cheery for 9:30 in the morning (ha ha). She was awesome! I wish I had 1/4 of her pep. She was working double duty (counter service & drive thru) yet when we were in front of her, her entire focus was on us. She was extremely friendly, funny, too. The Dr. Pepper w/ peppermint cream drink was tasty, as was the pineapple w/ coconut cream drink. The sausage & gravy kolache was yummy, as was the egg & potato. The Kolache Cafe has become one of our regular stops whenever we've got people staying with us for the weekend. It's an easy win. Show up with a box from here and everyone's happy. The food is the reason you go. The cinnamon rolls are massive, soft, and actually taste as good as they look. Not dry, not overly sugary, just done right. Same goes for the kolaches. Good dough, good fillings, and enough variety that you're not stuck ordering the same thing every time. Prices are reasonable too, especially for what you're getting. You can walk out with a solid spread without feeling like you just overpaid for breakfast. Now, here's where it drops a star. There's one employee who, consistently, just doesn't seem to care. No personality, no engagement, and more than once she's managed to crush pastries while boxing them up. This morning was a repeat. I ordered a larger batch, and she started stacking and pressing things into the box like it didn't matter. Another employee had to step in and fix it, which tells you everything you need to know. It's not the end of the world, but it's also not nothing. When you're paying for fresh pastries, you want them to look like they did in the case, not like they survived a minor accident on the way out. The rest of the staff has always been great, which is why this place still lands at four stars. The food carries it, and most of the experience is solid. Just... take an extra second with the box. Every time I come to this place, I feel like I am in someone's cozy living room. The smell of it, the setup of the dining room, just something about it put me at ease. I never feel rushed or overstating my welcome. Service is always spot on. The cashier is always so patient with my indecisiveness on all the flavors I wanted to get. For the most recent visit, I also had a chance to check out their WiFi, and it was really strong and steady. Overall, I had a very productive 2 hours there. I think next time I'll bring a book with me and spend a morning there. read more

I've been seeing a bunch of locations pop up, but happened to be in the area looking for breakfast so we stopped by! Tried the sausage, egg, and cheese kolache and despite the small size, it hit the spot. The staff heats it up for you and we dined in - and glad we did as the savory kolache needed some salsa as we spotted the cholula hot sauce bottle halfway into eating. The kolache had the right blend between sweet bread with the savory egg filling. Also had a bite of the Oreo cheesecake kolache and was surprised to find the staff had warmed it up as well (not sure why I thought it was just the savory ones). It was nice, not super sweet. The building seemed new so we were surprised to find out they had been opened for five years! Great for a small meal or snack so will be back to try other flavors. read more

This places turn over rate is insane maybe if they treated their workers right and the owner wasn't so money hungry they'd stay. This location is supported by the elderly of Ahwatukee i mean have you seen the food... perfect bite for people with no teeth!! I hate a place that treats their customers better than their own staff it's a shame. Overall such a weird place to work. The managers a joke lol a literal chemical scientist with a degree and bossing minors around. Real nice at face value but running that kitchen like the navy... It's a nice place but very unorganized. I ordered a sausage and gravy, and a sausage, egg, and cheese and asked for them to be warmed up. They were given to me cold and the signs on them were all wrong because I ended up with a ham, egg, and jalapeño and a sausage and gravy instead of the sausage egg and cheese. I took it back up and she apologized and gave me a replacement, but it was still wrong. This time it was a chorizo and egg. I never got the sausage egg and cheese I ordered. They tasted fine but to go up to the counter twice and still not get what I ordered was very disappointing. Overall it was chaotic and mismanaged behind the counter. read more

Never had a savory kolache we didn't like and this half dozen did not disappoint. Only suggestion is using sturdier boxes. When ours was delivered and picked up the box was soft from the heat from the food and the kolaches almost fell out of the box. read more

After my nearby appointment was done, I decided to walk over and grab myself a kolache and some sun. Perfect timing as it was later in the morning & empty so the service was very personal. The downside of coming late, a lot of the items I was craving for breakfast were gone. It's always first come first serve. All good so I went with something sweet and something savory along with a fountain drink. Got a chance to catch up on the New Times paper and customer service was super friendly while I was there. My family had to leave to get change then come back to reorder our food and beverages. There are no signs posted that the establishment does not accept large bills. I rarely give 5 stars, but rarely does somewhere deserve 5 stars. Food: The Kolaches were amazing we bought a combination of sweet and savory and both were delicious. They heat up well for the next day and also freeze well. Service: I have been in some form of customer service in food service and healthcare for over 30yrs and I really appreciate good service. The staff here were above the bar with their patience and recommendations when I was taking a bit of time to choose. Overall: my one disappointment is that I don't live in AZ and will only get to come here when I visit family. The staff and the kolache's are worth a trip you won't be disappointed. read more

A different bakery good choice! I'm thrilled when a unique concept opens in the Phoenix area. I've had kolaches years ago in Austin Texas and haven't really come across them since. I read these yeast dough pastries originated from the Czech Republic. There are soft sweet fruit filled ones and savory varieties here. On March 22nd, 2023 Lauren a super enthusiastic employee, introduced us to the flavors of kolaches baked that day. At 11:00am we were floored by the huge choice there was on display! Apricot, Blueberry cheesecake, barvarian cream, apple, sausage and gravy, Italian meatball, BBQ pork with pickle, chorizo egg and cheese, brisket mashed potato jalapeno and cheese just to name a few. I picked the spinach, egg and feta kolache $3.49 and the orange cheesecake for $2.49. Not too sweet and the dough not super heavy. Soft, fresh and very good. The clean and bright dining area was furnished with greenery on every table and a pretty floral display welcomes patrons in the entrance. We asked Lauren to snap a photo of us using our cell phones and the saying on the background wall is credited to Bailey, the other gal working there this morning. (She did say "Have a beautiful day!) These two were truly happy to be working there and it showed. How refreshing is that! It created a positive vibe that we took with us when leaving the cafe. Next I'm planning to try the smoked chicken/cheese and the coconut cream. If you choose to visit, make sure it's between 6 - 3 pm. Open seven days a week. read more

The store was clean and had a very pleasant seating area. You order at the counter and take your tray with you to be seated. The Kolaches' dough was fresh. The sweet treats appeared to be filled and/or topped with canned pie filling type products. The sausage and egg kolache had a half of quite good sausage in it , the poppy seed kolache's filling tasted old. ( I use canned poppy seed in baked goods and know what it tastes like when a can is freshly opened) The coffee was good and flavorful but not amazing as their menu claims. All in all a pleasant, even tho NOT Czech , place to have a reasonable snack or meal in a pleasant and clean environment. read more

First time trying this place out the bites I guess you could say for breakfast rolls and stuff like that are pretty small not alot or too flavorful but OK if you like a lot of bread. It'd be fine. The pastries are great. I mean, I would definitely recommend those And go from there. Everything was packed. Very nice marked well and delivered on time. Another Tukee win. I grew up with a kolache chain in the Midwest and totally forgotten about this niche food item (breakfast? brunch? lunch? How about YES?!?) Kolache Cafe is a Phoenix-only small business that dishes out bites of amazingness. They run typical brunch hours (early opening, closing usually around 2-3p), or when they run out of kolaches. I've been there at a closing when they have remnants left and you get what you get... likewise I've been there in the morning when you have pick of the litter. My understanding is some of the kolache flavors available change daily. There's really not one kolache that is horrible, although I typically pick savory ones over sweets. I try a new one every time I visit- usually a 6-pack for togo. #MoreBang4TheBuck They offer combo meals but I'm pretty set on buying in bulk every time :-P The breakfast fave- egg, feta & spinach, or chorizo (not terribly spicy). The lunch fave- pizza! They support their next-door neighbors Buzzed Goat by selling their coffee, in addition to normal non-alcoholic drink offerings. Just tried this place for the first time today. Love the variety of options from sweet to savory. I ordered online for pick up & my order was ready very fast. Little things I loved - they wrote on the top of the box to let me know what flavor each one was since they all look alike on the outside. The gentleman who helped me also had great customer service skills!! Made an effort to ask me about my day. He also recommended condiments like mustard & hot sauce which went very well with a few of them. Place inside was very clean & inviting . The only one little complaint I have is my sausage & gravy kolache was the only one not fully warm in the inside. I've had kolaches before, but none quite as delicious as the ones from The Kolache Cafe! It must have been my lucky day because I snagged their last bacon, egg and cheese kolache when I went in the other morning for my first time and oh my, it was heavenly. The bread was perfectly sweetened and the inside filling was warm and melty, I almost had to order a second because it was that good! I can't wait to visit again and try more of their kolaches, they have so many different options, everything from sweet to savory. Not only was the food amazing but the staff were kind and welcoming and the interior of the cafe is super spacious and cozy. Came here to try their pastries for the first time. The cafe itself is very clean and the customer service was great. The food on the other hand was less quality. I ordered an Italian meatball, sausage cheese and jalapeño, pulled pork jalapeño, chorizo egg and cheese, cheesecake and peach, and strawberry kolache, and I was not impressed with any of them sad to say. The Italian meatball wasn't good. The meatball tasted like it was previously frozen. Something you give to a child. All the fillings just tasted very basic. Nothing special as far as spices or flavor. Love this concept, but not great execution. Don't think I'll be back just because food was not good. read more

Love the variety of Kolaches! Went for a quick grab the morning hours! Got the 1 Kolache combo with coffee. The server recommended their most popular item is the jalapeño cheese! Got that one, and my husband got the bacon egg and cheese plus the lemon cheesecake! We didn't care for the lemon cheesecake. The coffee was good.
