Decided to try take out dim sum instead of dining there. Called in an order on a Sunday and was told 30 mins. When I got there it was ready. Tough to find parking so if you have a teammate who can drive you, it makes it easier. All the dim sum items like tripe, har gow, fried taro, chicken feet were warm and takes great. The beef chow fun was so so, not that much beef, though still tasty.

My boyfriend picked this spot to have late dinner after I picked him up from SFO. I've been to the Kitchen once a very long time ago with my family, but I don't remember it much. I do like how they open so late. If you're craving Chinese food late at night, then this would be the place to go. I think we got there about 10:15pm on a Sunday night. We were seated right away. At that time, there were probably three tables there. We looked for the menu and waited. After waiting for quite some time, I waved at an employee to get their attention so that we can order. We ordered three dishes - Eggplant something, Fried Rice, and Mongolian Beef. All were pretty tasty. I liked tea that was given to us. It was pleasant and fragrant. The place was pretty nice looking. I don't like the constant smell of cigarette smoke because either the customers or employees were smoking right outside the place.

Coming back to a consistently great restaurant. I would highly recommend that one comes before 6pm if you don't want to experience a long wait. Tonight's fantastic meal consisted of brisket and daikon in clear broth, roast goose and pea leaf with garlic. The brisket with daikon is one of my favorites when the restaurant has it on their menu. I don't think I've ever ordered it anywhere that has it on their menu that did a bad job on this dish. I've never ordered goose because I it prepared badly when I had it ages ago in Hong Kong, well I guess they never prepared it right, I'm growing very fond of roast goose. The final dish was a vegetable dish which was pea leaf saute in garlic, nothing wrong with that.

Livelier and louder than your average Chinese restaurant, but that is easy to overlook given how tasty the food is. The dishes are packed with flavor and full of wok hei. The space is relatively small, and they fit in as many tables as possible, which makes it a bit of a maze getting to and from your table. I highly recommend coming with a group of family or friends so you can try more of the family-style dishes and make a reservation. Some of my favorites were the salted egg yolk shrimp, squab, pea shoots, and pig stomach.

We really wanted to like this place since it's such a Millbrae staple and everyone seems to recommend it, but our experience was pretty disappointing. We're staying at a hotel nearby and decided to drop in for dinner, big mistake. First off, the wait was over an hour. For an "old establishment" that's always packed, you'd expect the food to justify the time, but it just didn't. The prices here are sky-high for what you get. Most dishes are over $22, which is wild considering you can find the exact same quality in LA for about $12. The food itself was mediocre at best. We actually had to send the snow pea sprouts back because they were so tough and woody they were basically unchewable. When you're paying premium prices, you expect the kitchen to at least pick through the veggies. To top it off, parking is a total nightmare. Between the hour-long wait, the mid food, and the high bill, it's just not worth the hassle. There are definitely better ways to spend your time and money in Millbrae.

I used to love The Kitchen, but after returning for the first time in nearly a decade, I was shocked by the decline. It's a complete 180. The food is now overpriced, salty, overcooked and MSG-heavy with tiny portions that don't justify the cost. The dining room is chaotic and cramped, and the restrooms were disgusting. Beyond the food, the service was bizarre and felt discriminatory. We were lied to multiple times by different waiters about something as simple as complimentary peanuts, yet we saw every other table receiving them. It felt like the staff was judging us based on our appearance. The service is clearly "cliquey" and favors friends of the management. To make matters worse, the manager followed me into the restroom in a way that felt hostile and targeted. As a Vietnamese customer in a Chinese restaurant, I felt highly unwelcome. Between the rude staff, the nightmare parking, and the large non-service dog allowed inside, this place is riding on a reputation it no longer deserves. Save your money and go elsewhere.

We came here on New Year's Day for dinner and luckily we made reservations for 5:30pm because the restaurant was packed with a line out the door! The food is excellent as always and even though it was super busy, the service was great! Love the energy of some of the servers! They were lively, super patient, and super helpful!

Great service. Always full house on Saturday & Sunday . You can make reservation if you have table of eight or more. If you don't have a reservation, then you should arrive like 5:30 pm or before 6:00 pm . Tonight I was lucky enough to be able to order the large clay pot of soup . It as all sold out past 3 times I visited .

Came out here to celebrate a friend's birthday, we had reservations already and you could tell it was a popular place, the place was already packed with people waiting to be seated, and there were about 20ish people waiting next. It's your typical Chinese-style restaurant with items to choose from or family set meals, we went with a variety of items picked from the menu, I was unable to take all of the photos since we had a hungry crowd but the food came out fairly quick and tasted good. My favorite would have to be the Salted egg yolk deep fried crab, as that's always a huge hit. I also enjoyed the Crispy Ham Hock, it was tender, crunchy, and the dipping sauce made it all come together. The geoduck we had was alright, had it better but also had it worse in other places, the duck came out pretty well. I wish I had taken a photo of the steamed fish we had because I also thought that was delicious! They also served us about 3 different types of desserts, with the mango pudding being the go-to! All and all, it's a great place to grab some Chinese food if you're in the area, I'd recommend getting reservations!

Celebrated lunar new year with a Chinese dinner here! It was crowded but we got seated in 20 minutes. We ordered the pea shoots (4/5 - a little bit tough), duck with truffle sauce (5/5 - a bit weird at first but the taste grows on you) and just white rice (3/5 - I've eaten better rice). Overall, was a really good meal despite the rice quality and would come back again. I'll order the fried rice next time. They also give you a free dessert at the end!

Checked out this Michelline recommended restaurant this week and enjoyed our plates of sizzling hot dinner. We ordered a steak, mushroom, and string bean dish that stole the show! Strips of perfectly cooked rib eye and a variety of savory mushrooms stir fried together in a ginger scallion medley-so good! We also ordered a braised fish and tofu dish that was served piping hot. Definitely make a stop if you're looking for solid Chinese food. There is a parking lot off to the side but it got tricky at the peak of the Friday night rush!

First things first - all the best and most authentic Chinese restaurants are between 3.0 and 3.8 star rating on Yelp. Because all the authentic ones are always packed with 99% people that grew up eating these dishes and either don't have Yelp accounts or don't bother to write reviews since they're always in their rotations. This place is one of them - extremely packed table to table, almost difficult to even get to your seat. Huge line even after 7pm on a Sunday evening - that's when you know they don't need your 5 star Yelp rating to be successful. But be sure to make a reservation. All the dishes are very authentic, the workers here work fast - they have people ready to clean a table within 2 seconds after the previous party leaves, and the wait staff do come around often to change plates. The sautéed ribeye with mushroom was likely my favorite dish - was also impressed by the pork belly pieces in the appetizer (the most crunchy and least fatty I've had in such a dish)!

Black Truffle Roasted Duck - Whole
    Frances C.

Food is good but portion sizes are small. The truffle ducks have a great smoky charred favors and juicy. All the dishes were equally consistent given the busies of the place. Service is a hit and miss. Hard to flag down the server. Rush, dine, and leave. No time to enjoy a good family dinner. Table settings are back to back with other diners. Noise level is high, it's difficult to carry out a conversation.

5 stars - Genuine Northern Chinese Gem in Milbrae…read more I've been searching for years for a spot that does real Northern Chinese food without watering it down for the American palate, and New China absolutely delivers. The owners clearly know their stuff--Shandong style cooking shines through. We started with the pan-fried pork & chive dumplings (煎饺) -- thick, chewy wrappers with perfectly seasoned filling and that ideal crispy bottom. Not the thin-skinned Cantonese style; these are hearty and satisfying, just like what you'd get in the north. Their zha jiang mian (炸酱面) is outstanding--the fermented soybean sauce is rich and deeply flavored, loaded with ground pork, cucumber matchsticks, and bean sprouts. The noodles have that perfect al dente bite. It's the real deal, not the sweet Americanized version. We also got the cumin lamb skewers (孜然羊肉串) -- tender, intensely spiced with cumin, chili flakes, and sesame, grilled over real flame so they have that smoky char. And the sour cabbage stir-fried with glass noodles (酸菜粉丝) was spot-on: tangy, comforting, and full of that signature Northern balance of sour and savory. Excellent appetizers Portions are generous, prices are very reasonable for the quality, and the place has that no-frills, family-run feel that makes you feel like you're eating at someone's home kitchen. Service was friendly and quick, even when busy. If you're tired of the same old General Tso's and orange chicken everywhere, do yourself a favor and come here for authentic Northern Chinese flavors. This is now our go-to spot in Milbrae Highly recommend--will be back often!

Unlike your typical Chinese Restaurant, this place specializes in Northern China style cuisine, so some of the dining experience may feel reversed. For example, they have a mince noodle that is served cold, but a Tofu Skin that is served hot. The English description are a bit off and they have a variety of frozen buns and other food you can buy to-go (they don't serve the buns at the restaurant). For the less adventurous, their spicy tofu, Crispy Sweet and Sour Chicken (breaded and fried crispy) and a dry noodle are good starting point, and for vegetables, their stir fry green beans is good (but best served with some rice). Overall, this place is not bad, but wish their menu was more accurate in the description/content to meet customer's expectations.

They did add the 'New SF' prefix the name to distance themselves. Coming here on a Saturday after making dinner reservations on a late Saturday afternoon, I saw a number of familiar faces immediately. Half of their staff are from the Monterey Blvd. Won Kok Restaurant. This was my 1st time dining here in likely close to thirty years when it was another restaurant. Back to our meal, we were seated at the far end corner of the restaurant, prime location for spacing and restroom access. In crafting our menu, my friend chose several staple dishes from their original location; besides those, my friend was gifted a Bay-caught halibut so I asked the restaurant for suggestions in cooking it. The chef suggested cooking it two-ways. I knew the captain from his two previous restaurants (20+ years) and he guided us. Here's what we ate (family style): 1. Steamed surf clams with garlic and vermicelli noodles (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=lPyTuWkX4RoUtP-3fZ2UiA) - These were served in two halves on each plate (four plates for eight shells) for our party of eight. Tasty, flavorful, and fresh as their flagship location in San Francisco. 2. Soy sauce supreme seasoned prawns, 2.5 lbs (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=wYtIFMiiYTuhOa_CmggLrQ) - I actually requested "West Lake" shrimp but was subbed out by this. This was good, just not what we wanted and expected and definitely pricier. 3. Salt and pepper halibut (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=9scLPxW30ktLJK72UIrSBw) - Half of our provided fish was cooked this style. It was done well as you'd expect from the most famous R&G chef to go through their kitchen. 4. Sauteed pea sprouts with garlic (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=GDqjVZCqWnGvZ68sbHjqCw) - Pretty standard version and the pea sprouts were cleaned and trimmed well without any inedible or chewy pieces. 5. Pan fried pork spare ribs with soy sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=x3xQew_Es07lW2dPJwB7BA) - This was the captain's recommendation and it was good but didn't stand out in any particular way. The ribs are cut into bite sized pieces and flash fried. 6. Simmered beef stew & turnip with pepper in broth (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=CAg60fXr0CfXtrcPVm2kEQ) - One of the signature dishes from the chef's days on Kearny Street that he continued at his Monterey Blvd. location. The portions are certainly enough for our large party as a family style dish. The broth is definitely the star and, for me, the radish (daikon). 7. Steamed halibut with black bean sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=amzaLddp_H2vdSGzrKyYfQ) - The size of the fish made this tricky as, when the captain tried to remove the bones in serving, we learned that the fish was not fully cooked. He brought it back to the kitchen and they cooked this to a perfect cooking temperature. The flavors were nice and the black bean sauce didn't overpower the fish. 8. Golden fried rice with a touch of egg white (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=CZdyzi720mOckNXxHulS4g) - Another restaurant recommended dish, we were amazed at how tasty this was, given the simplicity of its description. Apologies for not having a full serving photo as the captain offered and agreed to him apportioning it in bowls for each diner. 9. Crispy skin roast chicken with garlic (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=TspHX9eknS496I3zXwVwlQ) - This is their innovative twist on the Cantonese favorite jia zhi chicken with a strong garlic flavor. The carving of the decorative chicken head (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=DaywI5br-WQb9hh0a5sgng) was impressive. 10. Green bean tapioca soup (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=12ljEfFOj8tqwIaBXHvTVw) - Complimentary, a nice ending. 11. Red bean paste pastries (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=MwjmcyVoyHVXnmPRWYuM8w) - Complimentary and okay. The theme here, given the restaurant size, is for banquet style meals and prices reflect it. By the time we left, the dining room and the staff were swamped. Highly recommend making reservations especially weekends. More likely to dine at their flagship but will come for special occasions or with South Bay friends.

ORDER: Har gao Siu mai Chow fun Sesame balls This was a good dim sum experience. The har gao filling seemed bigger than most I've had. Everything was yummy. I have nothing bad to say. Place felt decently clean. Service was prompt. Curious if they have any relation to Asian Pearl in Ranch 99 in El Cerrito? We went here right after arriving at SFO. Perfect spot if you just are coming back from a trip. Not far from the airport. Would go back if in the area!

This restaurant definitely has a following since people were coming in to pick up food as well as an equal amount of people dining inside the restaurant. Every dish we ordered was plentiful and delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant especially if your favorite Cantonese dish is hard to find. The roast duck was flavorful and tasty. We also ordered the clay pot dish featuring beef brisket. The wor wonton was chock full of treats although the won ton were each super salty. The seafood noodles were prepared perfectly. Seafood freshly wok prepared without overdoing the seafood. Noodles were pan fried to the perfect toasty flavor and texture. Look forward to trying more things at this restaurant! The restaurant is bright, open and airy. There are music videos playing on televisions as well as a welcoming feel to the restaurant.

She directed me to a table with 2 other diners next to it. When I asked for a table adjacent to the usual dining area, she directed me to a table for 6. This table is along the path for the takeout line for their know bbq. I refused because all the people waiting for bbq will be looking and breathing down on the diners. Asked for a quieter table, she yelled "all table in Chinese restaurants are noisy ". I walked into the adjacent area and pointed to a table (the section was completely empty). She said "Go sit down and wait". I have been to this location for over 25 years and the service has deteriorated over time. For same food, recommend its San Mateo or South San Francisco locations. The service here is worse than those "greasy spoons" in Chinatown. Service: 0 star. It is known for its bbq food and traditional Cantonese cuisine Food: 4 to 5 stars Hope the owners are reading the reviews. Competitors are fierce in Millbrae and some may not accept such bad service and rude attitude.

Service was extremely slow, it took about 35-50 minutes for all of our dishes to arrive. There were only two waitresses handling both dine-in and takeout orders, so the staff seemed overwhelmed throughout the meal. We ordered the iced Hong Kong milk tea and iced lemon tea. The milk tea lacked the smooth, silky texture and rich evaporated milk flavor you'd expect from a proper HK-style milk tea. The lemon tea had a strong tea flavor, but the lemon itself wasn't sour or fragrant enough to balance it out. It also seemed like regular white sugar was used instead of traditional yellow rock sugar, so the drinks missed that classic Hong Kong café aroma and depth. For appetizers, we tried the salt and pepper chicken wings and salt and pepper fish. Both were crispy, flavorful, and well-seasoned, but you could also tell the frying oil wasn't very fresh. We also ordered the baked seafood spaghetti and baked beef tongue spaghetti. Both dishes were disappointing, not enough cheese, overly thick sauce, and an artificial-tasting flavor. The standout dish of the night was definitely the seafood pan-fried noodles. The noodles were nicely crispy, the seafood to vegetable ratio was generous, and the gravy sauce tied everything together well. Overall, the food didn't really deliver the authentic Hong Kong-style flavors we were hoping for. A few dishes were decent, but the long wait times and inconsistent quality made this a 3-star experience for us.
