Me and my wife went to The Joyce for Valentine's Day let's get into it. First off, presentation across the board is a 10/10. The dishes look amazing and the plating is top tier. But here's the honest breakdown on taste and overall experience: * We asked for still water and didn't realize it would cost $20 just something to be aware of. * Tequila espresso martinis if you want to wake up, they'll do it. Flavor wise... 4/10. * Shrimp scampi with sourdough bread truly AMAZING. Chef's kiss. Easy 10/10. * Joyce Wagyu cheeseburger looks incredible, but nothing really wagyu or standout about it. Just a solid burger. 6.4/10. * Crispy chicken Caesar salad every review says to get it, but I have to disagree. For a $30 salad, it needs serious work. Chicken wasn't seasoned and it didn't taste like a Caesar. 2/10. * Spicy cauliflower is not the buffalo-style flavor you might expect. Very mild and honestly forgettable. We didn't even take leftovers. Now the big moment: I ordered a Chicago-cut ribeye, but received a Stone Axe steak instead. I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble the waitress was kind and attentive it may have been a misunderstanding. But that mix up meant I was charged $240 instead of the $110 steak I ordered. The steak was good... just not $240 good. When I saw the final bill $555.99, I chalked it up to the South Beach experience. I love bougie burgers! Like I'm the type of guy that will research whether a steakhouse has a burger on their secret menu. It wasn't quite a secret here, though you did have to know that The Patio was a separate casual vibe from the restaurant inside. Creamed Kale: I would eat a lot more kale if it always tasted like this! Kinda like a classic warm spinach dip with all the cheesy goodness, but with kale as the green star. It cooked down to be soft, but still had some texture. Tasted great on the homemade potato chips. Joyce Burger: First bite and you can tell this is fancy. The two patties are seared nicely on the outside, but medium rare inside. It doesn't taste like regular boring ground chunk but like maybe they used the high end steak trimmings here. Every bite is so much richer than a regular burger. It's rather simple design but everything is high end from the brioche bun to the fancy cheese. High recommend for burger fans! Midwest Sundae: I've literally never heard of putting french fries in ice cream. I mean I have seen potato chips in chocolate bars, which is kinda fun in a crunchy salty contrast. So out of curiosity, I decided to give this a try. It was an alright pairing, I did like the salty against the sweet. I came to Joyce shortly after they first opened, about a year ago, and I remember feeling pretty underwhelmed. The burger wasn't bad, but it also wasn't memorable in any way. It just tasted like a regular burger. I vaguely remember the fries being on the salty side, but nothing really stood out. Since then, I've continued to see so much hype about how amazing their burgers are both on social media and through word of mouth, so I figured I'd give it another shot. Honestly, this second visit was even worse. The burger was extremely disappointing. The patties were paper thin (I thought it was a smash burger) and so overcooked that it was incredibly dry. It didn't even taste like a proper burger. I found myself needing to drown it in sauce just to get through it. The fries were also very underwhelming. The garlic aioli that comes with the fries is pretty good, and it looks like they make their own ketchup. Unfortunately, the ketchup is on the sweeter side, which didn't really pair well with the burger. The only genuinely good thing I can say is that I liked the ice they use for their drinks. We weren't super hungry but wanted a bite for dinner that was close to the hotel and The Window at The Joyce fit the bill for a nice outdoor dinner. Gabriella was a lovely hostess who sat us. I asked about their IG story of an insanely delicious looking sundae and graciously inquired about the inside menus for us. Leonardo was a wonderful server and was very attentive. I wish we were hungrier so we could explore more of the menu but I will say the Cheeseburger, Brussels Sprouts and Midwest Sundae did NOT disappoint. Superb experience all around. Food, service, ambiance. Three of us - two locals and one visitor - made our first visit on a Friday night, and everyone left saying it was one of the best meals and experiences we've had in Miami in a while. We were seated at the curve of the bar, which worked perfectly for the three of us, and helped facilitate some great interaction with the staff throughout the night. We were hungry, and our order ran the gamut: Himachi, Avocado Salad, Brick Chicken, Grilled Fish, and A5 Wagyu Picanah. Everything was excellent. I'll also note that the A5 Picahah was the real thing - melt-in-your-mouth and explosive in flavor (I only mention this since the terms "A5" and "Wagyu" are misused so many times these days). Additionally, the cocktails were perfect, from a couple of their signature drinks to an absolutely perfect Manhattan that I had to order twice. A couple of bonuses: My companions were curious about the burger, which is somewhat off-menu and based on the burger sold at the Espanola Way street window. The GM brought us one out on the house, and it was terrific. And for dessert, the ice cream sundae was called out as very good, but an off-menu version laced with their homemade Dubai-style pistachio chocolate bars was exceptional. read more

We sat outside on the patio for drinks, and it was the perfect spot -- lively, charming, and great for people-watching. The service was excellent from start to finish. Joyce was such a great find. The food and drinks were amazing and honestly the old fashioned and steak completely stole the show. The chopped wedge was good and the Dubai blizzard was great but the outside skirt steak at $98 was overpriced and just ok. Should have been more like $60. All their streaks are overpriced. $130 for the filet when in NYC at maybe the best steakhouse in Manhattan it's $97 so this is silly. Was also very cold inside. Nice and fast service. This place is going to be fully booked forever in a few weeks so go before it pops off. I almost didn't want to write this review selfishly so it stayed under the radar for longer but I have to because it was so good. From the moment we got there the experience was perfect. Hostess from the jump knew our party name which is an extra check mark for me. Justine was our waiter and she was iconic. Perfect waiteress. So kind. Timed every dish amazingly. Truly the best you could ask for. We ordered the cobb salad + ceaser shnitzel + latkes to start. all amazing. The perfect version of both salads. Then we had the burgers + fries. Again amazing. I loved how the burger was thin and maybe 2 patty's/smash burger style but also not?? Fantastic. We dined there on a Sunday and on Sunday's they offer Chinese food too. Literally how could the meal get any more perfect but somehow it did. For dessert we had dubai chocolate sundae + strawberry shortcake sundae and to no surprise both were amazing again. We really wanted to like The Joyce. There were some good things, but the evening got off on the wrong foot when we were offered only seats the bar despite a table reservation, being told that the empty tables were for a larger party. That were never seated. We would never had reserved a bar seat. BUT the bartender was gracious and attentive and bought our first round. We ordered the scampi appetizer and it was good. We were talking with the bartender about the menu and how I never cared for smash burgers as they always came overcooked for my liking, so I ordered the Aussie filet (good) and my wife ordered the $100 rib eye French Dip. During appetizer service the bartender said he heard us talking about the burger so he sent one over for us. It WAS good, but at the end of the evening the burger, supposedly on the house, was on the bill! My steak was just OK (for $98) and the French Dip was downright horrible. Burnt. Dry. And a HUNDRED DOLLARS. I emailed the restaurant about the burger on the bill and they promised to reverse that charge, but almost three months later and many emails, nothing. We won't return. This review is about the actual restaurant The Joyce and not about the kichi rice. We went in a four person group to the Kichi Kichi Rice event and the actual staff of the restaurant and the team were amazing. Our waitress deserved her tip she was a queen. There were several seatings for the event, so they were being quick and efficient with the food. I wonder how it would compare to a regular day but the food we received minus the rice dish really was not worth the $250 reservation and the additional cost incurred. The 20% is standard in Miami so that with the cocktails which were on the smaller side, the bill came out to $390 per person. I just don't think the portions and the food we received equated to that value. The cucumber salad lacked presentation compared to the establishment we were in. They also served us chicken wings which for fine dining and a $250 prefixed menu felt like a cheap cut. The crudo was good but nothing you couldn't get anywhere else in Miami and the steak was cooked nicely but every plate was shared between us. For the price tag the steak could have been per person. The crab leg was also a shock that it could not be one per person for the price tag. It may have good but we left a little disappointed when other places in downtown for $390 per person we could have come out feasting like kings. read more

Was just cruising through the Esme last night with my chick and talked to the hostess about checking out the Joyce and she asked me if I was gonna go buy a drink and I said well we're intending to do what I said and that's check out the place and she quickly copped an attitude and said, sir you were better off in the bamboo room, that what's barest for you. What total disrespect - she was obviously having a bad day and we all have those. In the service business, where restaurants and bars are looking for business, This is not the front of front of house service that One would expect on Española Way Esme. Summary of our dinner: The food was average, the staff was incredibly snobby, rude, and untruthful. We had a 9:30pm dinner reservation for 4 people on a Saturday evening, and were looking forward to the dinner as we had heard good things. We arrived on time, and were told our table was almost ready and asked to sit in the courtyard and that we would be served a drink. We patiently waited in the courtyard, and about 30 mins into the wait were told that our table was nearly ready. At this point we were staying optimistic and not bothering the hostess - we figured at a restaurant like this there was a max you could possibly wait. But oh were we wrong... By the 1 hour mark we were extremely antsy and told them we were going to leave, it was 10:30pm at that point, we were hungry, and getting upset. The hostess just told us that there was a Calvin Harris concert so traffic was bad, there was nothing they could do. I responded that we sat in the same traffic for the same concert and still made it on time, its absolutely not an excuse to seat us over an hour late. They told us the table was being cleared, not to leave. We were not seated for another 30 mins and should have left. We received a mild apology from the manager, but more attitude than anything. When we were finally seated it was hardly acknowledged how poor our experience had been. Just excuses about how the table was ordering dessert, drinks. etc. Once seated, we tried to put in appetizers immediately as we were starving, and the waitress told us we had to put our entire order in at once. Like I get it, but not when we waited 1.5 hours for our reservation. The food was average, nothing to write home about. When our bill arrived they literally took nothing off - $0!!! We asked to speak to a manager and were told the original manager had left for the evening. It was 12am at this point and we sure would have loved to have been home for the night too had our table not been 1.5 hours late. A new manager came over and took our drinks off the tab - half our party doesnt drink so this was not a momentous amount. By this point we were appalled, they treated us terribly, did nothing to try to make it up, and genuinely did no give a F***. We were too drained to even argue with them - honestly they are not worth the energy or negativity. Their attitude was clear from the beginning so take how they treat you with face value - they think they are better than you. This restaurant is like the worst of Miami + NYC in one place. read more

Having eaten at Bavette's in Chicago few times and knowing Chef Taylor's history there, I was very excited to try The Joyce in Miami Beach. From start to finish, this experience was bespoke, elegant, sexy, and completely enjoyed on every level. The attentive welcome that was received was individual and intentional. It began upon my approach to The Joyce and was pulled through the experience until I left. I was greeted initially by the GM and escorted to the hostess, who had my reservation ready and promptly seated me. The space is intimate and well decorated for the vibe the staff and menu have achieved. I travel quite a bit for work and, as a party of 1, usually try to get a table because I get tired of sitting at bars. On this occasion, however, I decided to roll with it and see how it would go. I was so glad I did. I was greeted within 30 seconds of sitting down by JP, an engaging bartender who provided personal and customer-based insights throughout my experience. During my meal, not only did JP do a great job of providing attentive service without being smothering, LeeAnn and Cecil--two other team members also stopped by to ensure that everything was wonderful and make sure the experience as a whole was perfect. The conversational intention of their visits was welcomed and appreciated. I enjoyed the stories behind a couple of the dishes, particularly the Sour Orange Pie. The food was perfectly prepared. Hamachi, wings, steak, brussels, creamed kale...impossible to pick a favorite. I couldnt have gone wrong with any of them. The cocktails pair well with the dishes, too. Hidden behind a discreet entrance on Española Way, The Joyce is easily one of the most unforgettable dining experiences I've had in Miami Beach. From the moment you walk in, the space feels like an art gallery-meets-supper club--think moody lighting, emerald velvet, walnut finishes, and yes, actual Basquiats and Picassos on the walls. The food? Incredible. We started with the latkes topped with Ossetra caviar--crispy, rich, and perfectly balanced. I went out with friends, and we all work in the industry so we can be a bit picky. The Joyce was amazing from start to finish. You feel as if you're instantly transported to a trendy restaurant in NYC as it's very moody and cosy inside. The wine list is insane for such a small restaurant (think cult-y producers from iconic French regions), the steak was perfectly cooked & salted, and the sommelier was knowledgeable without being pretentious. First night in Miami and was so looking foward to an interesting concept. A steakhouse doing a Chinese inspired menu. Unfortunately was a miss in every level. Started with a spring roll that came out ice cold in the middle it was replaced but lackluster at best. Followed with a Szechuan beef Wagyu ribeye that was flat and overcooked and priced at $76. We hit The Joyce in Miami and decided to sit at the bar, and I'm telling you, do that if you can. The whole night felt effortless, mostly because our bartender/server J was out of this world. She was genuinely friendly and accommodating, did an amazing job walking us through the menu, and steered us toward all the right orders. She also made a world-class Negroni, the kind where you take the first sip and immediately trust the person behind the bar. Food-wise, the prime carpaccio was excellent and set the tone right away. The off-menu French dip was expensive, but it was so worth it, easily the best French dip I've ever had. The burger was outstanding too, and I still can't believe I'm saying this, but the creamed kale was incredible. We also had the chicken schnitzel and it was amazing, crispy, satisfying, and just done right.
