I'm so confused why this place is split into two disconnected spaces that are RIGHT next door. TIP: Specify to friends Immigrant East or Immigrant West--I've been to both and they are just not the same haha. All that said, I recommend the East. Even though they're technically the same establishment (I think?) the East side one definitely has a better vibe going for it; when I walked into the West one I felt more like I was at a dive bar or in a college frat basement because of the cheap beer smell. Not sure what was up with that, might've been an off day. The East one though is cozy and intimate. Cute little wine and beer bar on 9th st and 1st ave! The bars are physically separated between the beer and wine, which is a pretty cool concept. My friend and I entered the wine side and ordered a couple of glasses of wine and some bites to munch on. The menu is straightforward - you have 7-8 selections of little plates to choose from and a very nice selection of wines. We ordered the meat and cheese plate (came with 2 meats and 4 cheeses) and my favorite wine was the petite syrah! The glasses range mainly from $10 to $12 and the bottles are decently priced as well. We were naughty at the wine bar, but can you blame us? The lighting, the wood...the super clean bathroom???? Soaked and irritated by people's lack of umbrella etiquette (this is a running theme in my life) I found my friends in the back with menus and birthday love waiting for me. Despite all the wines and beers listed, my eyes zeroed in on a paper clipped strip of three cocktails. Yes, I ordered myself cocktails at the wine bar. Mr. GreenJeans and a Bees Knees, both of which were mixed so well, the alcohol content slowly crept up on me instead of hitting me with a one two punch and pee. HOURS later we knew we had to leave for our respective commutes home, but the wood of that banquette just seem to meld into our bodies. Pretty great bar on East 9th Street east village neighborhood. It's sort of divided into 2 sections. There's a "wine" area and a "beer" area since it seems they have expanded to the store next door. Very friendly helpful staff that has information on all the drinks they offer. It's a good place to go if you want to have drinks and conversation because it's not super noisy like many other east village bars in the neighborhood. Very cozy atmosphere too. As a single customer I was forced to sit at the bar rather than at a table. Utterly unacceptable. Policy before customer service is BS. So in the end as a party of two we ended up sitting at the only four top. Make sense right? I used to frequent this bar when it was half the size. How greedy they have become.... I'm really digging The Immigrant over there... The Immigrant is a cozy little wine bar in the Lower East Side... oh wait, it's in the East Village? Whatever, it's on the lower right side of this peninsula. Honestly I always confuse the two hoods since they are practically the same area geographically in my mind. This bar really blends into the surrounding scene at night so you don't want to accidentally pass it by! My party of three came here to meet up with other Yelpers doing the Ultimate East Crawl with Ambassador Jane for Yelp Drinks Week. Little did we know they were skipping this bar on the list because they were too busy eating Frito pies, but that's ok. The Immigrant is long and narrow and I can't imagine it would be able to accommodate a huge group of people let alone a huge group of intoxicated Yelpers. When we came in, we asked the manager in front (he might have been the owner for all I know) if there were any available tables. Sadly there were not but he was able to sit us on three stools in a corner where we could use one of those tiny wall tables that barely juts out. I really hate stools... I mean, what girl truly enjoys sitting on one? Still, we were determined to have a few drinks and a nibble so we dealt hoping we'd be able to score an open table later. Meredith M., my partner in crime for the evening, ordered the meat and cheese plate for us which was pretty satisfying. The cheese was a strong white cheddar and there were two types of meat- I want to say some variation of salami and some variation of prosciutto? Whatever, they were both thinly sliced, savory, and fixed my urge for something manly. The plate also came with some mustard and a pepper which I gently chewed on later. There was a side of bread but as I recall I wasn't really into it... you know when I'm not into something if it's still there by the end of the meal. For drinks, I had two glasses of the Cava from the Yelp drinks menu. Being a sparkling wine, it was very light and refreshing. I didn't really look at the main menu but it seemed as if they have a nice wine list... which they better since it is a wine bar. Around 7:30 a table had emptied and we jumped off our stools to claim it. I feel like we practically tossed our coats on the seats and almost spilled drinks in the process. Upon sitting down, the manager came over and said that the table was actually for the group of people standing right behind him. Awwwwwwwkward. He apologized and we slowly made the short retreat back to our little corner. I thought it had been implied that we wanted a table and not back-pain-inducing chairs against a wall? Oh well. As a mia culpa, he brought out a little bowl of candied nuts laced with crack. Now, I say crack because at the beginning when I tried one, I said eh it's too sweet. I don't want anymore. Then one became two, two became 5, and then 5 became finger fighting over the last very last one with those two crazy hos on either side of me. So crack, yes? True there were no guns involved but I think that's irrelevant at this point. I was really enjoying the bar until the owner (or whatever the hell he was) sadly informed us at 7:45 that the bar had to be closed at 8 because the water had to be shut off. Apparently a pipe busted across the street? I didn't really see it when we left. All I saw was one puddle and I exclaimed "THAT'S it?!" *insert "that's what she said" comment* Because of this, all of our food was comped which made for a very cheap bill. I cannot say enough about how friendly and accommodating the service was. This place would fall under the Yelp category of "cozy" or "intimate" or "gem." Since I moved from the Upper East Side, I've been looking for "my bar," a bar with which I identify, a bar that I have no problem telling people to meet, a bar to just relax and talk. Who doesn't love imbibing alcohol while listening to The Verve? Or talking to your friends over Radiohead, as you're reminded how great Clueless is/was? I came here on a Wednesday night trying to search for a wine bar that was open late. I had The Immigrant bookmarked for a while and it closed at 2am. Although, we arrived at around 1:30 the bartender never made us feel rushed. I noticed there were 2 separate entrances and I went on the side closer to the east. The place is pretty small but it wasn't crowded so I wasn't claustrophobic. They have a good amount of wines to choose from and have a wine that's suitable for anyone. They don't have an extensive list of food but if you want cheese, meats, and other bar food they look really good. I came on a weekday so I'm not sure how crowded it gets on the weekend. Holy friggin' crap. What an experience! So, the evening started with us completely losing the bar. "Where is it?" "I think it was here. Did it close?" "I'm not sure, but that man is urinating on that car." "Ok, let's move." Once we found it, as it was literally right in front of us, we waltzed in. The entire establishment was very dark and intimate. We were quickly greeted - which was nice and a bit out of the ordinary at 12:30am on a Saturday night/Sunday morning. We were shown to a table and had a waitress. Pretty classy, if you ask me. To start, we each had a glass of wine and split the meat and cheese plate. Yum! We were given a variety of white-ish cheeses and hard salami, along with fresh homemade toasty bread. We picked and prodded at the assortment, but mostly left the mustard on the board and ate everything else. Conversation was good so we decided to stick around for another round - the Malbec was particularly delicious. As we finished our glasses we cashed out. Just as we were about to start packing up our things our waitress came back and explained that the restaurant was closing for a week to refinish the floors and they needed to get rid of some of the wine behind the bar. Did we want a 80% full bottle of wine to split among us? Ummm... do bears have fur? Heck yes we'd like to have free wine! So, we settled in for another drink. We finished that drink and it was almost 3am. At that point the bar was closing and we were getting ready to leave when the waitress brought us ANOTHER 80% full bottle of wine with a twist off lid and told us just to take it home with us. How fantastic! Our visit here was filled with dumb luck, but that made it truly unique and different. The Immigrant has been on my list for quite some time and I was very glad to have such a successful trip! P.S. I'm definitely a fan of wine bars and this one just happens to be right outside my friends house...they have a diverse wine list of varieties from Argentina to Europe to New Zealand. There's also beer for those who are not wine fans. :) It's very dark and romantic inside, perfect for a after dinner or pre-dinner drinks or just chilling with friends after a long day... that's what I did. I actually came here on St. Patty's night and it was a nice way to get away from the crowed bars. We sat down in the back and the staff were very attentive right away. They also serve mini snacks so you could munch on a little snack with your wine. On this particular night they had these green shamrock sugar cookies complimentary to the guests, which I thought was a good gesture for a place that just opened in the neighborhood, good move! This place is absolutely adorable and I never would have found it had it not be for Yelp Drinks Specials. They should have a neon flashing sign outside that says "This place is effing awesome!" Seriously though, I loved how quaint it was inside and they seemed to have a pretty decent wine selection (although I did just have the Malbec special). A wine bar? With brunch? This past Sunday I strolled into The Immigrant bright and early (11am, that's early for a Sunday, right?) to try out their new, two-week-old brunch menu. My date and I chose the smoked salmon benedict and the ahi tuna sliders. Both were fresh and delicious - the hollandaise was light and creamy, covering the perfectly poached eggs. The ahi tuna sliders had a wonderfully soft and sweet bread, sandwiching the tender tuna, with a dab of a nice tangy sauce. All this good food was prepared behind the bar - who needs kitchen space? The Immigrant proves that a wine bar can do a proper brunch - careful curation of great products applies to both their wines and food. If you're sick of the loud, bloody mary drinking, hangover ridden meatpacking crowd using brunch as an excuse to get drunk again, come here to escape them at this quaint tasteful gem in the East Village. read more

I wish I got the owners name, or whoever the nice blonde guy was behind the bar. He made our night, seriously. This place had some tasty wines on hand and was the perfect little (and I mean small!) cozy catch up to meet a few girlfriends. Plus,the wines on the Yelp Drinks menu were very nice. We sat in the back along the wall, which was slightly uncomfortable but we didn't care. We just wanted to get our drink on and have some cheese! It was our own fault for not conveying to the bartender that we wanted a table, so when we sat down at the next open one he politely told us that there were other people were already waiting for them. I think he felt bad so he gave us some complimentary munchies! The night continued and next thing we know we are asking to leave because of a water line break. Shit happens, I get that, so everyone was asked to leave as shop was closing down. He gave us the rest of our food for free due to the inconvenience. Now, THIS is why I am giving immigrant 5 stars. Cozy and Intimate little Wine Bar!!! On my frequent visit to East Village, I explicitly noticed this place many times cause of its warm look, dimmed lights and Intimate ambience. I went here with a close girlfriend before meeting up with other friends for dinner. It was the perfect place to have a nice quiet conversation. The Bartender was really nice and gave us some wine recommendation for a hot summer day. Even though their wine list was very small and I didn't see most of the Reds I like in the list, I very much enjoyed their service and the glass of White Sparkling wine the bartender recommended. They have a list of small bites and appetizers too if you want to munch on something. But I wouldn't necessarily go here for a meal. If you are looking to get a drink before or after a romantic dinner, or want to catch up with an old friend and have a long conversation over some wine, I reccomend this place. read more

They haven't done anything revolutionary at The Immigrant, but it is a very pleasant place for a glass of wine. The wine list contained an interesting assortment from all over and prices range from $9-13 by the glass. I picked this place for a casual weeknight date and we were lucky enough to score the adorable two top in the front window, which was a good thing because the back of the bar is a little dingy. Nice "farmhouse chic" atmosphere though and fairly knowledgeable waitress. Basically, it's just your standard wine bar. As far as a wine bar goes, The Immigrant deserves 3 stars just for their wine & beer selection in my humble opinion. Their wine list isn't particularly long, maybe just a total of 40 different reds and whites altogether. The beer selection isn't grand either; just 2 options on tap and a few more in bottles when I was there. But, I have to say I am a big fan of the cozy, intimate space and genuinely friendly service that I am happy to give this place 4 shining stars. It also helps that the bf and I totally scored an absolutely perfect table for two in the front, overlooking the large window when we visited on a recent Friday evening. What perfect timing! We couldn't have asked for a better seat in the house, especially as the small space was quite packed. I really like the feel of this casual wine bar; it's so mellow yet very romantic... really just the perfect place for the boy and I to unwind after a long day and enjoy each other's company. We were even able to delight ourselves with a single firefly that happened to be dancing right outside our large window, almost as if it were deliberately trying to entertain. As far as the drinks go, I thoroughly enjoyed my glass of rose, and he the Brooklyn Brewery pale ale and Sixpoint Sweet Action that were on tap. I visited Immigrant last night to catch up with my best friend on her recommendation, and we had an abolutely wonderful experience because of the staff, quality selection, and ambiance. DRINKS: I had three different drinks, all at the recommendation of the bartender. For the first time I tried a sparking red wine at the recommendation of the bartender. I would have not been so adventurous if her first recommendation for me was not so on point. But she told me the sparkling red was her favorite and a unique selection. My friend and I both tried it and it was delicious. We absolutely loved it, and is a new favorite. FOOD: My friend and I split the meat and cheese plate and cheese and fruit plate.The selections of eats is incredibly direct. Since it is a wine bar, not a restaurant, they had selections with cheese, meats,etc, but don't go expecting a full meal. Our dishes were really delicious, and paired really well with our wine. The cheeses were flavorful with a nice selection, and exactly what we wanted to nosh on while we gabbed the night away AMBIANCE: The space is not large, whatsoever, but dimly lit and charming. The majority of the space is a bar, but there were little tables set up in the back as well. We arrived around 7:30 (Tuesday night), and it was relatively empty. By the time we left, around 9:30, it was a little busier, standing room only. This place has been open for almost 2 months now. I think it's still under the radar -- especially since there really isnt any signage outside (which I dont think is a bad thing necessarily). I guess it's about a 3.5, but I'm giving it a 4 because it has potential It's just a cute place. Nice vibe. Comfy benches. Good music. And they have live music on occasion. The wine selection is kinda meh -- I wasn't a huge fan of the wine I got...and I do think that if this is supposed to be a wine bar, well, there should be a greater selection of wines. Whether you're with a small group of friends or enjoying a date in the village, this should definitely be on the top of your list of places to check out. The decor is extremely inviting. It sports dim lighting and an intimate space. It won't seat hordes of people, but it does open up to welcome a decent amount of folks. This place tends to attract a tamer and more relaxed crowd so you won't find it ever to be too busy. The staff is as friendly as friendly can be and are very knowledgable about the drinks and menu sported on the menu. They have small plates to enjoy with your wine (or beer, if you decide to hit the tap room instead) - very yummy. The wine selection is small, but awesome. There's something for everyone here. On a vacation with my wife to celebrate our wedding anniversary in New York we stayed in East Village. The Immigrant was the place we spent most our nights as we wanted to have a great glass of wine and beer to finish our fantastic day. The environment, the setting, the atmosphere, and the staff were all fantastic. They offered an amazing selection of wine and beer, had local favorites as well nationally known brands. I did not have a beer I did not enjoy and my wife did not have a glass of wine she wouldnt have again. The owner was active, friendly, and professional. He was visible tending bar and kept pace with the great number of patrons. It was always a great crowd, but we didnt have a problem finding a place to sit and enjoy our drinks. We had a cheese plate that was unreal as well. All in all a fantastic place to visit and make your regular bar of choice. I would kill to have this place near me in California. read more

I went here to get a drink during "Yelp Drinks!" week. During that week they were offering several different wines for half of their usual cost. I had the Malbec, my wine of choice, which was quite tasty. I only had one (due to dinner plans), but at the low price of $5 I definitely could've stayed for more. For a wine bar, I'd say they had a nice selection of wines. There were a decent amount of choices by glass, with many more by the bottle. They also offered some little eats, but I can't really comment on that since I didn't really look at the menu (again, due to later dinner plans). In terms of ambiance, it was cute but definitely small. There was a small bar in the front with a tabletop for 2 placed between the bar and the front facade window. Towards the back were there were 2 other tables good for groups of no more than 4 and then a really, really, really thin, if you can call it a bar-top, bar-top adjacent to one of the back tables. Other than that, that was it. Not much room to stand, and it didn't seem like it lended itself to that kind of place. There was no room for "let-me-shove-my-neighbor-to-the-side-so-i-can-steal-the-bartender" types. That, to me, is always nice! As for service, one of the bartenders that was there when I arrived was super nice! Both my boyfriend and I ended up on that really, really, really thin bar-top since there was no available space. We sat there for 2 minutes, at which time the bartender kindly came to us and told us that a space at the bar had opened up and it would just be 2 minutes. I don't know about you but in NYC, I think THAT'S service! Overall, I'd say I'd be back. The 1 glass of Malbec was quite good so I'd go just for that. And it was a much nicer and quieter wine bar than 10 degrees, where I had to shout my way through to my across-the-table friend just to be heard. read more

Two friends and I came around 8pm and perched for a bit at the bar until a table-- one of maybe four-- opened up for us. It was the perfect place for us to sip on wine and munch on olives until our dinner reservation.
