Healthy Pet is the bee's knees. Every time I take my dog here, I feel like the best doggy owner in the world; he loves the treats, toys, smells, and staff (who dispense treats like candy), and I love the selection of high quality, healthy goodies that I can pick up for him and his dog friends. Our mutual favorites are the grain-free, wheat-free hot food mixes, the raw, dehydrated liver treats, the huge selection of wild-sourced jerkies, and the biscuits- in appealing flavors like duck, cherry & parmesan! (Dark secret: I may or may not have tried one or two of the treats myself... they just sounded so good :| ) If you're curious about a new treat, ask a staff member- they're always willing to give you a sample, or open a bag so you can gauge your pup's interest (which will probably be high...) The toys are also perfect for strong chewers. My dog devastates any toy that isn't reinforced with like, 8 layers of nylon, fiber and rubber, but the stuffed animals and ropes I've purchased at Healthy Pet are still alive and well, minus a few stray fibers (occupational wear and tear). Cat owners- you're not left in the dark. The cat treats, toys and accessories here are phenomenal. I especially love the locally made catnip hot links- not only do they come in adorable, festive fabrics, but they're filled with organic catnip that seems to hold its appeal for months. This is now out favorite pet store to stop in at. We know we are getting good clean treats from here and love the small and clean setup they have. Wide enough variety of toys to find anything you may want and they also have toys that engage thought in your pets! We found a fun toy you stuff with other squeaker squirrels and the dog can pull them out. Our puppy was initially confused but now he carries this toy everywhere and loves digging out the squirrels! And the treats! Found the best treats to date! Ice had dogs all my life and we have spent a lot of money on fancy, healthy treat but these ones take the cake. If you are looking for high quality dog, or cat food I would stop in here to see what they have. They have a great selection to chose from. I buy Orijen for my Pomeranian puppy, and it hasn't been easy locating stores in the Eugene, Springfield area that carries it. Orijen, and Acana I believe are the same company from what I have been told. So it is weird to me that you can find Acana at Petsmart, but not Orijen. The bags look identical. The price for the puppy food is not cheap, but worth her health to me. It appears to be the same price at all of the other stores I have found it so the Healthy pet I feel is closer to me. I also bought my baby girl a new tooth brush, and tooth paste from here. She loved the paste...chewed on the brush a little and was a little mad about the brushing, but hey. She needs to learn. I found some treats that are real freeze dried fruit, and veggie. Banana, blueberry, and sweet potato. She loves them. My girl is a crazy fruit bat as it is. I like to feed her the most natural stuff there is, and only treats that you know the ingredients. I want a healthy pet and I feel that is what you are getting when you shop here. I have been giving my cat Science Diet's Senior Blend for years, since he was 10. Slowly I stared to notice a change in my cat. Puma is normally a very adamant hunter of all things, very vocal, loving and active old man but slowly he becoming a heavier, very grumpy, slow, non-playful cat. I've always felt like Starch Carbs in cat's food seemed a little silly. It's not like in nature my cat is going to go to the Daily Bagel and order himself up a bagel with salmon flavored cream cheese, so why am I feeding him something that is equivalent? It's just not natural. The Healthy Pet has a GREAT selection of ALL meat food and foods without additives. After trying a sample of the Instinct Rabbit Meal that's what Puma and I settled on. This is our main spot for pet food and supplies; they stock both brands that we use for our cat and dog at reasonable prices. We use Northwest Naturals for the dog food which can be harder to find, and Wellness grain-free canned food for the cat - they offer a case discount on the cat food which is really nice and a punch card which comes in handy if you buy a lot like we do. They also carry a wide selection of other grain-free cat foods and raw/all-natural dog foods. They have very knowledgeable and friendly staff and a wonderful variety of treats, homeopathic treatments for various ailments, and nice toys, beds, etc. One thing to note is that they don't carry traditional flea medications or Nature's Miracle (which I swear by for pet-odor removal) so if you are in need of those then you'll want to check elsewhere. read more

I became a customer of The Healthy Pet when it was on W. 7th Ave. I discovered that it is a place that I can go and if there is an 'issue' I will find the staff is able to help me through with such great a wealth of knowledge and compassion! It has been truly a 'goldmine' for me and the dogs with such varying needs. I have been involved in rescue for many years...and without The Healthy Pet I would not have had a place to go to learn how to restore the health of so many of the rescue dogs that come with many different issues....most all stemming from poor diets and neglect. There is no other place that offers such diversity and quality in the foods they carry. They do so much research and questioning of suppliers before agreeing to carry a product. The other pet food stores...carry food...some of it quality, some not so good...but, they do have the knowledge to answer the questions in depth about the food.....and offer suggestions on what to try for a dog with an issue...be it age, or allergy, or an illness. Another thing that I just love about The Healthy Pet...is that they have wonderful times of sharing...like 'The Doctor Is In'....when Dr. Doreen Hock is in the store to answer any questions or address any concerns we may be having with our dogs! They have Behaviorists and Trainers come in and also help answer and show us how to address any training issues that we may be having.....there is just so much more going on at The Healthy Pet than just a regular retail pet store. They promote dog adoptions...and regularly have a dog adoption day at The Healthy Pet.... Prices...someone posted that prices are higher at The Healthy Pet...well, I have never found that to be true . The high quality foods, be they commercial kibble, raw frozen, canned, or freeze dried....are the same no matter what store carries them...the high quality foods have a standard price no matter what store...and the Manufacturers of those products are very 'particular' as to what stores carry their products. So, the cost of the products at The Healthy Pet is no higher than they would be at any High Quality Pet Food Store. I don't have to check the expiration dates on any food at The Healthy Pet...as I know they don't order a production and then have it sit in storage for very long periods of time..thus allowing the potential for molds, insects...etc to invade any product. I know that Dr. Hock is very careful with every product in her Store...and is very careful to have a very knowledgeable staff...as Pets are her life and passion....she is so dedicated to extending healthy lives to dogs and cats...and goes way above and beyond to give the people in Eugene and all of Lane County.....the best products and services available! I have a rescue Friend in Roseburg that comes to Eugene just to shop at The Healthy Pet...because...they don't have any Pet Food Store that is comparable!! I took a rescue dog from her...and took a bag of food from The Healthy Pet...and some treats...and she was so impressed! I have a 14 1/2 year old Australian Shepherd that was diagnosed with severe heart disease/kidney disease 3 1/2 years ago. The Vets prognosis was she had one year...well...she is still going with quality of life. Her diet is crucial...as the heart meds dehydrate the kidneys causing kidney failure...The Healthy Pet staff to the rescue...put me in touch with a canine nutritionist...and her books....and because of this knowledge...I still have my girl...she will 15 November 15th...and still with me! On Friday my beloved child (Dog) was diagnosed with Lymphoma Cancer. I spent two days looking for information online of what I could do to help holistically, along with the information the Vet recommended (Chemo), and found very little validated information online. I decided to wander into The Healthy Pet and see if I could find the recommended Raw food Diet that many sources had recommended, boy was I in for a surprise!! Randall came out and quickly greeted us and was full of information. He was so patient and kind. He helped calm my fears and made me feel like I had some control over the situation. He easily understood that with our babies treatment we couldn't afford the top notch products and he helped point me to the best products in my price range. Randall spent over 45 minutes helping me figure out what was most important for her health immediately. I was able to leave spending only 70 dollars on raw food, probiotics, omega fish oil and healthy treats. He also was nice enough to email me the directions of how to give the probiotics and raw food because he realized i was over-whelemed and not processing all the information. I've really wanted to love this store. We shopped here the first two years we lived in Eugene. We bought food and yums for both our furbies as well as various other needful things. We found the prices to be higher than what we had been paying in Portland, but were willing to pay it in order to insure that the critters had high quality food and goodies. By accident we wandered into mini petmart. I won't lie and say their stores are great. The exact same grainless kibble we'd been feeding was 25% cheaper. I understand bulk buying and such, but the price difference was substantial. In addition, litter and treats were significantly less expensive for the EXACT same product. So my money is being spend at a less "sustainable" but more affordable pet food store. read more

With a newly rescued puppy in my home, I've been frequenting the Healthy Pet almost weekly. In fact, when I go on walks with my pooch, he leads me right into the store if we're passing by! I have found the staff at the store to be incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. The prices are a bit high, and there are few promotions or sales, but the return policy of the store might make up for that. (Though I haven't needed to return anything yet.) These people seem to really know their stuff and seem genuinely interested in helping out our furry friends. What's really great are the monthly events where they bring in experts. Last month, Cindy Ehlers from Pawsitive Pet was in the store, and the tips she gave me were invaluable! The store does a good job keeping its customers in the know by updating their Facebook page with product information and recalls that are happening in the pet food industry. This has become my go to store for my cat. A friend of mine recommended this place because of the unique and well priced cat toys. First time there, customer service was great! I bought 3 toys for $5 which is pretty good compared to most pet stores. When I was ready to check out, the gal at the counter offered me samples to provide my cat with a healthy diet.
