I am really glad I have found this place. I only wish I had found them sooner. I have been driving…read moreacross town buying bags of dog food for my girls for quite some time. The food I get you can't get at the commercial stores, you have to get at special stores like J Co. The first time I came in, I was really impressed with the knowledge of the staff, and the customer service that was given not just to me, but to the other customer's that were in front of me. I observed the store owner carry out a bag of dog food for an elderly man that day and that melted my heart. They didn't have the size bag of food I needed, so he ordered it for me. Unfortunately shortly after that I ended up taking my Son's dog in, and had to switch brands because it was a little spendy paying for 2 small dogs, and 1 large dog. It is the same company of food, just the cheaper version. Thankfully they carry it here as well. When I did purchase my bag of Orijen dog food the owner carried that bag out for me... no questions asked. That is just the kind of guy he is. I am now buying Acana, which is the Sister to Orijen. They have the program where you buy 11 bags get the 12'th one free. Or 10 get the 11'th? Something around there. I can't quite remember. I have been still buying my food at the other place because I am waiting to get my free bag. I think I have one more purchase until I can be a more loyal customer here. I think customer service, and knowledge of the product is really important especially when dealing with pets. They have that going on here. Nothing but the best here. My Pomeranians are one in a half, and one and they rarely get treats, the only treats I have ever bought for them have been the Orijen freeze dried treats their whole lives up until Thanksgiving time when I saw the Bocce treats here. They looked really healthy, and limited ingredients. My girls love them, and they have not had upset tummy's or have not had any itchy issues while eating them. I am one picky Pommy Mommy when it comes to what they eat, and now I also watch what my Son's English Cream retriever eats. She has not had any issues eating these treats either. They are all eating the Acana, after eating Orijen puppy, and love it. Their coats are beautiful, and soft. As soon as my Son takes his baby back, I will switch back to Orijen for my Pommy baby's though since they won't eat me out of house, and home. :-) Anyhow, best place for food, treats, toys, and shampoo. I think they even have a washing station. Go check them out!

This is a small store that carries an array of natural foods for dogs and cats, treats,…read moreaccessories, toys, and grooming supplies. Prices are about average for the area. They have better quality pet food than you can get at the big box stores, though they don't carry the grain-in kibble brand I've been feeding for the past few years. I supplement with fresh meat and vegetables and yes, my dog is pampered, but I wasn't ready to switch base kibble brands, and I only saw grain-free options on the shelf. The lone employee was basically polite but not too helpful. I found some treats and shampoo for my dog, but otherwise had to go elsewhere.

I cant remember the last time that I had such an enjoyable small business experience, you know,…read morewhen the owner comes to talk to you about what they offer and how their wares are best used. A lost tradition no thanks to the legions of foul smelling Wal-Mart's that co-opted the principles that were important between a customer and the shop keeper. The store is beautifully organized with a replete selection of gifts, bulk bird (and wildlife) feed and some amazing bird feeders that are manufactured in the U.S.A. I was truly touched by the insightful conversation that I had with one of the owners who shared with me an experience rarely had, and truly cherished, thus signifying the importance of supporting our local businesses and the families that run them. What I admire the most is that they support conservation (with real money rather than words) which is important to me.

This morning I ordered some suet cakes online to feed the birds. Their website is clear and…read morestraighforward. I prefer to get my suet from Wild Birds Unlimited because the quality is good and I know I am not feeding the birds some hidden ingredients that might not be good for them. Well, to my great surprise I got a call from Barbara and Dan Gleason, the owners. of the Eugene store to let me know they were on their way to my house with the suet! Wow!! Now that's the quickest turn around time ever!! And I live 15 miles from the store in Eugene! To all who love to feed the birds, I highly recommend ordering from them. If you live outside of the city call a few of your friends and neighbors and make a group order that will be delivered quickly! Thank you Dan and Barbara!!

I have been going to the Nautilus for my tropical fish for at least 14 years. In a market in which…read morethere used to be several small, locally-owned fish stores, this is now one of only two left and I do not visit the others anymore. Maybe at some point I will review them to say why, but for now, let's focus on why I like this place. Pros: ===================== -This is a fish store, not a pet store. You won't find dog poop bags as one reviewer was searching for, nor will you find lizards, or kittens... you get the point. You will get an owner that knows something about fish. -Because he knows about fish, you can trust his advice and input. -If you want a particular plant, or fish, he can probably get it for you. And, unlike one of his competitors, he actually follows through. -His prices are very, very fair for his stock. The importance of this in a market increasingly dominated by big box pet store cannot be overstated. -I have never gotten a fish disease from his store. I cannot say the same for either big box chain. Cons: ====================== -This is a small owner/operator business. He has faced a lot of challenges since COVID and his stock is not what it once was. But this could change if hobbyists like me stick with the fish store in our community. -There is one person, the owner, doing almost everything on the at least 50 tanks he has running. Yes, I do see an occasional dead fish, but I can say the same of pretty much every fish store I have been in. And they all had multiple employees. In the final analysis this is my go to fish store. If you are a FISH person, rather than a show tank person - or just a casual pet person, it should be yours too.
