Excellent food. Friendly waitress. The place itself was a little dated and looked unkept, sort of your infamous "dive" breakfast place. It's smack in the middle of some tourist areas which is probably why the food was a bit more money than I'm ok with. Fortunately the food was awesome so it calmed the price down for me. Was here for brunch on 5/17/14. Went in not expecting much and was completely pleasantly surprised. We ordered the Eggs Benedict over crab cakes, the cilantro omelet, and a chicken artichoke sandwich. Everything was delicious, service was good, coffee was good. Would benefit if they updated the tables and chairs but the food was so good we barely noticed. They also have brunch mimosas and bloody mary's! read more

I am a breakfast fanatic and very picky. The food was absolutely delicious, uses all local fresh ingredients, service was good, and enjoyed the quaint Vermont atmosphere... Sure, it's had its ups and downs, but it's always there and always good. People (mostly the out-of-towners) get all bent out of shape when a line forms at the door and have to wait, god forbid, "15 minutes." But you're not in NYC or Hartford are you, you're in Vermont in a cozy little town, in a cozy little place called the Hatchery....take a deep breath and bask in the warmth of the thought of real blueberry pancakes and delectable sausage links smothered in maple syrup. The huevos rancheros were really good. It tasty and a relatively good portion. My boyfriend got the hash plate which was a bit smaller portion than anticipated. The hash was not as good as we've had at other places, but it was still decent. A reminder that it's cash only! The staff were relatively friendly, and the place was not too crowded when we went (Sunday at around 12pm). Though we came in the off-season, so I can imagine it probably gets more crowded during the ski season. read more

Yeah it's a little hole in the wall place, but contrary to the less favorable reviews here, our service was really good & friendly and our food was delicious. We started off with coffee & Bloody Marys (nothing fancy just your average drink). I had the cilantro omelette which was awesome. My hubby had the breakfast omelette, which his only complaint was he wished they grilled the onions & peppers rather than just putting them in half crunchy. We shared one walnut pancake and it was DELICIOUS! Home fries were great....hubby liked the hash which was homemade. The only reason I took away a star is that it's rather expensive. We dropped more on our breakfast than dinner the night before. Granted we had bloody Marys but I would expect to pay more if it had been loaded with other garnishes besides a lemon and celery stick. I took my mom out for her birthday this morning. Picked this place pretty much at random and because the listing said it had great home fries which are hard to come by, in my experience. They were not lying or even exaggerating, in fact all the food was absolutely incredible! It was served quickly, obviously homemade and fresh, and so delicious I took some home, even though I could have finished the very generous portion. I actually stopped eating for the sole purpose of insuring that I had some left for later that day. It was that good! They even served fresh squeezed orange juice. (that did not make it home) The server, Christina, was incredible as well. Very down to earth and friendly and she treated us like she had known us forever, even though we had just met. My mom asked for something they don't normally serve and had settled on something they do, but Christina brought her what she had originally requested. She went out of her way to make it happen. This was Before my mom told her it was her birthday. She made my mom feel very special and her timing was absolutely perfect, as was our whole experience. We felt right at home and had a beautiful view of the Okemo Mt. ski slopes. When we were leaving they asked if we would like two complimentary coffees to go. It's little things, like that, you remember. Great place and great people! Thank you so much for helping to make my mom's birthday a special one. It was a little more expensive then some other places that serve premade, reheated, Food Service home fries but in most cases, you get what you pay for. We've been coming to Ludlow for 25 years and visited the Hatchery regularly. The food is reliable but uninspired. Expect diner fare without the "urban flair" that their menu claims. The setting on Main St. Is cozy but starting to look a bit tired. The whole place--menus, appearance, food selection, service -- needs some refreshment. We have come here ever year since I was little and this time was very disappointing. We waited forty five minutes and they weren't taking names you just had to wait in line. Once we were seated we waited 15 minutes and no one came. I asked a passing waitress for coffee and she rudely said "give us a minute" and then put coffees on the table which spilled and we had to clean up. We had several different wait staff and none were very polite. My sisters food was wrong and mine was cold. They also charged us for an extra coffee that we didn't ask for. Extremely expensive. I just payed $12.50 for the skimpiest and worst breakfast I have ever had in my life. There were empty tables and it took over 10 minutes to be seated. I asked twice for peanut butter for my pancakes and never got it. The server never came back to check in after our meal was served so I sat there with an empty coffee mug and nothing to wash down the undercooked pancakes with. As a culinarian myself I was extremely disappointed by the quality of service and quality of food. By far my worst breakfast experience ever. read more
