I've come here with friends multiple times while visiting to ski at Killington. This spot is very homey and servers all kind. The pancakes and waffles are delicious while the maple syrup is made in house and sold in bottles as well. Overall, I would definitely recommend stopping here for brunch if visiting the area. My only comment is that the coffee is not very strong but otherwise, the food and service is exceptional. read more

This restaurant/ store is a hidden gem . I am so happy I was able to find this spot the day before I left to attend for my graduation. This small business was absolutely amazing. The owner came over to our table and asked how we were doing and welcomed us. I loved that. The waitress that we had was very nice and was very honest in what we should try on the menu. The waitress even said that everything on the menu was all real ingredients which I absolutely loved to hear about. My family and I pretty much got the same thing which was the sampler, it came with farm eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes or you can sub it out for either French toast or waffle. We also got a side of home fries . The coffee was also very good too. Honestly everything was very good and I have no complaints. They also make there own maple syrup and sell it in their store which we decided to purchase along with some amazing T- Shirts and hoodies which was all on sale for 50% off. A comforting and cozy breakfast spot. Our group of 5 waited ~35 minutes on a Sunday morning and used that time to browse the gift shop downstairs. They have local maple products, Vermont apparel, Vermont mugs, etc. Once we got seated and placed our order, our food did take a little bit to come and they didn't differentiate over easy vs. over medium eggs nor did they make our corned beef hash well done like requested. The meal was still delicious but I wouldn't say the pancakes were out of this world special. I enjoyed the sausage gravy and biscuits as well as the blueberry waffle. The blueberries were very fresh but once again, the waffle wasn't anything spectacular. My group also enjoyed the hot chocolate which was served in a teapot with a cup of whipped cream. The food and drinks here are just average brunch food, nothing special but not bad. I think for the price and the hype, I was a bit disappointed. Chocolate chip pancakes came out dark, the waitress already said she was gonna bring more out. Not an issue as we likely wouldn't have complained and eaten the pancakes happily. I agree with the others who say what a great place this is. It was the first place we ate at on our road trip, and I'm sorry we didn't have a chance to go back. (Two nights and one day don't leave much time for backtracking.) The place is very rustic, looking a lot like what I'd imagine a sugarhouse to look like. My husband and I shared a full stack of pumpkin pancakes and sugar and spice pancakes. While I really liked the pumpkin pancakes better, he preferred the sugar and spice. But they were both really good. And our son enjoyed the plain pancakes. Waitstaff was friendly and helpful. They have a cute store there that I wish I had shopped more at. I didn't want to buy anything at the first place we went to, but I didn't find anyplace else with as good a selection, not to mention better prices. Fortunately, they have a website with the same reasonable prices as well as free shipping for orders over $75. My only negative comment -- and it's more of a head's up for those with mobility issues than anything else -- is that, while the restaurant is on the second floor of a two-story structure, the only restrooms are on the ground floor. The building only has two ways to access this downstairs. One is via a tall central staircase. The other is by going out the main entrance, walking downhill via the driveway the equivalent of two flights. (When you're looking at the photos of the building, look at the ones of the left side of it, next to where the sugar house is.) I'm really glad we went in the summer rather than the winter, because I'd have been concerned about having to make my way down from upstairs using my walker in snow. I think, as it is, I'd suggest, if you have mobility issues, make a point of having someone drive you down to that door so you can use the facilities before you go back out to your ride and get driven upstairs to the main level to eat. In spite of this issue, I'm loath to deduct a star for this, because it's obviously something that can't be easily fixed, and there's somewhat of a work-around even in winter (especially if they keep the snow shoveled, and, from the pictures, it looks like they do). And, I loved so much else about it, that I think they still deserve all five starss. read more

Staying in Vermont, we had to get some pancakes, with some Vermont maple syrup! Tried this place out and it was just AWESOME! It was very busy, especially for a Tuesday morning so we had to sit at the bar area, which was not bad. Got to talk to the cooks as well as the wait staff. SUPER friendly, inviting, and funny!! They were SO quick with the food and it was DELICIOUS! Had a sampler with regular pancakes, which was amazing! Switched out the bacon for some home fries, again, so good! Stopped for some pancakes after spending the night in Rutland, on our way to Smuggler's Notch. The pancakes were delicious and served quickly. They make the maple syrup served with the pancakes in-house. There is also a large offering of local goodies, we tried the maple soda pop! read more

To be totally honest the place is pretty cool, it looks like a log cabin on the inside with seating and a store front. There is a basement with bathrooms and another gift shop with items you can buy (merchandise and other tourist things). The food to me was simple but also really good! It was basic, pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage. Simple, and no you can't change anything and no additions either. I ordered the blueberry waffle TO DIE FOR, as well. Service was terrible!!! Mean, rude, rushing women that don't even write down your order. I ordered scrambled eggs, I got sunny side up... I ordered French toast, never got it, but it was on the bill. Pretty wild the service they give here. It's like that in Vermont, which is sad considering how many tourist are in and out of there. The most important thing you need to order before leaving here is the hot chocolate, I repeat HOT CHOCOLATE! OMG, the best hot chocolate I have EVER had. This is our go-to spot for the best breakfast in town! The ambiance is rustic, casual, and comfortable. The staff is always very friendly and attentive, even during their busiest times! The omelets are big and the ingredients you choose to add are super fresh. Bacon is cooked perfectly, crisp and crunchy. The hash browns are deliciously seasoned. They also have a variety of pancakes to choose from which are quite large and very fluffy (the blueberry pancakes are to-die-for!). Huge fan of Maple Sugar & Vermont Spice! My friends and I were staying at the Mountain Top Inn for a wedding and wanted to get brunch outside of the resort before the wedding. We came at around noon and seated immediately. This place was packed but there's lots of seating around the main floor and in their extension room. The servers at this establishment give off a homey feel. A couple owns this restaurant and actively work to host, serve and run the cashier. We loved the service! Food is absolutely delicious. Potato's are crispy with butter, eggs are fluffy and waffles are yummy with REAL maple syrup. After your meal, you pay at the front. Downstairs is a gift shop filled with shirts, syrup, mugs and trinkets! Highly recommend taking a look after your meal! read more

We ordered all over the menu. I had the sugar house sampler. It included two excellent sugar and spice pancakes, eggs, sausages and bacon. Their maple syrup was excellent. I couldn't quite finish the meal. We were allowed to linger over breakfast. My friend requested to go here for her birthday, so we drove up from Boston (about 2.5-3 hour drive). There was a wait but it ended up only being about 20 minutes. We were seated at the counter, and could see into the kitchen. I ordered the pumpkin pancakes, and my fiend ordered Pigs in a Blanket with gluten free pancakes. The pumpkin pancakes were delicious! The real maple syrup really enhanced the flavor. My friend said the gluten free pancakes were ok, but the dish that she was really excited about was the maple crunch sundae. The maple crunch sundae had maple syrup and maple crunchies (hardened maple syrup candy pieces). It is very sweet but delicious. I tried some of hers and then even though I was stuffed from my pancakes, got myself a sundae. I highly recommend the sundaes! The building itself is really cool. Downstairs is a store, and there are things for sale scattered on the main floor too. The items are very much Vermont themed, and would make good souvenirs/gifts. After long reconsideration and begging from my kids, finally decided to return to S$S for lunch. Still upset from the on-line syrup fiasco (read my previous review on them), we decided that it had been ling enough and I should just get over it. When we finally sat down, I noticed that on the table there was a condiment dispenser with something resembling syrup. PREVIOUSLY, whenever they gave you syrup for your pancakes or whatever, they would bring you a little 2oz clear jar with it, understandably so, since pure maple syrup is expensive and precious. As excited as I got because now I could have a little extra syrup on my stuff, I decided to try it just like that, plain, on nothing. Let me tell you, that was NOT maple syrup. It tasted more like MRS. BUTTERWORTH syrup, like a bad mix of melted butter and MAYBE a little bit of maple syrup. On top of that, the breakfast I got served was not as expected: FLAT pancakes, and, seriously, WHO sprinkles straight up cinnamon on top of the pancakes? As far as I am concerned, Sugar and Spice pancakes are baked with maple sugar and cinnamon IN THE BATTER. But no, these pancakes were covered with straight up cinnamon powder... Needless to say, added to the suspicious and questionable syrup they send you when you order from their website, subpar breakfast and, the worst offense of them all, trying to pass WHATEVER IT WAS in that condiment bottle for Real Maple syrup, we will not be going back there. P.S. I thought there was an outage of Sugar and Spice Maple jugs and that's why you send unmarked bottles when ordering online. i saw PLENTY of sugar and spice bottles at your location this past weekend. read more

Everyone, and I mean everyone said the place to go for breakfast was Sugar & Spice. Locals have shortened the name. It's an old sugar shack that's been added on to and expanded a few times. We got seated upstairs. Water, instantly on the table. Coffee? Poof! There it is. Friendly staff. After a few days in the area without having any, I felt compelled to have pancakes. Short stack of blueberry, bacon, and what else? Local maple syrup of course! My wife had an egg sandwich on the largest English Muffin I've ever seen. We even got a visit from Ole Saint Nick who climbed the stairs with Mrs Claus to greet all the patrons on our floor. Real rustic inside and out, friendly staff, good food. We stopped by here for a breakfast while we were in town and were happy we did! The space is really rustic and is the type of place you'd want to start your day when you're on vacation. It was Saturday morning so there was a bit of a wait, but they have a bunch of merchandise we were able to walk around and look at while we waited. We also brought our toddler and they were super accommodating and welcoming to young kids. For food, we got the cinnamon and Maple pancakes which were sooo good. As well as the French toast which was just ok. I would have opted for something else. The sausage links here are also quite good! Our server even let us try some of the different syrups they sell in their store. I really liked the very dark which was super rich and tasty! read more

We were both so excited to try original maple syrup for the first time and we were so glad this was where we decided to do so. The whole place was so incredibly cozy, it's like a little cabin style restaurant. The food felt so fresh and homemade, like a delicious meal at grandma's house. The pancakes particularly were delicious -- we even purchased a bag of their pancake mix to bring home, along with maple syrup, mugs, and keychains from their lovely gift shop (we just couldn't help ourselves). We eat gluten free and we're always happy when we can find gluten-free pancakes and this place had some of our favorite ones. I was dropping my son off for college so I won't get to go for some time. But my son will! We got Sugar & Spice pancakes and they were delicious. We loved them so much we went back the next day and I got Maple Walnut which were just as delicious. Wonderful customer service & yummy pancakes - win/win! We came here for brunch on a Saturday while visiting Vermont. The man in the front who greeted us (I believe he's the owner) was so friendly and gave us great recommendations. We couldn't decide on which pancakes we wanted since they all sounded good but he let my friend and I order a stack of 4 pancakes, each one with a different flavor! I've never been able to do that before. We ordered the sugar & spice, maple walnut, blueberry, and chocolate chip. It came with real maple syrup, which was SO good. We loved the blueberry and sugar and spice the best. My friend is also gluten free/has celiac and they had gluten free pancakes available!
