Rich, smooth, and exactly what you want on a cold Vermont morning. We also tried the handmade biscuit, warmed and buttered, and it genuinely felt like a hug in biscuit form. Shoutout to Ethan for being incredibly helpful and thoughtful with recommendations. With his guidance, we built a fantastic sandwich with sourdough, hash browns, avocado, green sauce, and chili crunch. He understood the assignment. Messy, hearty, and delicious. The vegan wrap was also flavorful and satisfying. We left happy, full, and already talking about coming back. This place was so yummy! I got the iced Vermont Creemee latte and it was delish. The barista was super sweet and the drinks were very quick! My only issue was the bagels being super skinny, which isn't my favorite, but that's all personal preference. Would recommend this cute place! read more

Loved this place! Stopped by for a coffee and breakfast before heading to the Killington cup and I'm glad that I did! As an ELA teacher I loved that all of the tables had famous authors on them. We just did take out, but there were plenty of people eating in. I got a hot seasonal latte that was maple and white mocha flavored and it was delicious! The breakfast sandwich I got was just okay. It was a bacon, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel and there was very little flavor. If I go back I'll definitely try something else for food and hope I can try another one of their seasonal lattes! read more

Rude employees. Gave me a hard time about asking for maple syrup on the side. Girl said "You know you can ask me and I can do it right?" No... the whole point of it on the side is so that I can put how much I want myself... is it that much of an inconvenience for you? What if I have a medical condition? Service took SO long, only one girl doing the drinks. One doing food and one just standing around. Heard the girls gossiping about customers including me for asking for syrup on the side. Major attitudes. No apology for a 20 minute wait for a coffee and bagel. Customer service sucks in Vt but this place takes the cake. Also super ugly dark artwork on the walls. The coffee here was good, though my flat white was very, very flat. No foam at all. But that is probably just a misunderstanding more than anything. My mom got a special wintry flavored latte and loved it. This place has the best coffee in the area to be honest, with limited options it is a gem. And I like the edgy stickers everywhere. read more

We needed a bit more caffeine our first morning in VT, and Yelp led us to this cute cafe. It feels homey, and we were welcomed very brightly despite the overcast day. Their special latte list is really stellar! It was tough to choose what to get. I went for the Morning Blossom, which was nice but a tad bit too sweet for my taste, and my husband got the Buckeye, which was good but could have used more peanut butter. Nonetheless, it was nice chilling out on the leather couch and finishing our drinks. There was a steady stream of customers but a very short wait. I wish I had had more room for food. Good food and good hot drinks, but they've messed up our order two out of the three times we've been here. The first time, we didn't notice until we got home (a pastry was missing). OK, so I'm in Bernie country for a basketball tournament and had some time to get a little work done before my kid's game started. I found the Speakeasy Cafe from a Yelp and Google search and headed over. This feels like an authentic Vermont experience. I don't have much else to base this feeling on, not having spent much time in the Green Mountain State, but the myriad stickers adorning the fridge give credence to my suspicion... an "Eat More Kale.com" sticker, the ubiquitous "Bernie 2016" sticker, which I'm sure will be joined by a "Bernie 2020" one soon. There's also a #RootedInVermont and a Vermont Public Radio sticker, just to give you the idea. So I ordered a sugar free hazelnut latte with almond milk and their soup of the day - Spinach Tomato Tortellini. The latte is delish. I'm enjoying it as I write this review. Hang on... I'm taking another heavenly sip.... mmmm. Yum. The place is small and a bit rustic in appearance with a warmth. The baristas know most folks orders as they come up to the counter... always a good sign. It's got seating for about 20 people, including a comfy couch. By the way, the soup was delish also. Definitely recommended. All in all, this is a great place to enjoy a coffee and a light meal when you're in Rutland. read more

I can't speak to the coffee but as for the food.... if you value your money and also a good meal absolutely do not go here. The size of the bagel sandwich was actually laughable I felt so sad upon opening and the wrapper and seeing the pint-size monstrosity before me. Also the bagels all tasted like pretzels? Likely the worst bagel I've ever had in my life... not even sure if this could be considered a bagel... If you know anything about bagels or like bagels or like a good breakfast sandwich, stay away. read more

Stopped in while visiting Rutland for the day with my niece looking for a cup of hot chocolate on a very cold, day-after-Thanksgiving day. No line, a couple of tables full with guests. At the counter, three very distracted employees, less than thrilled I had arrived and at my request, our cashier stating that our order could not be served in mugs since they were closing in 15 min and gave us paper - ok, fine, no biggie. Ten minutes later, a VERY loud female voice shouts from the rear that the cafe would be closing in 5 minutes, leaving us not only startled by the volume of her voice, but again feeling less than welcome patronizing their business. When this happened again, just minutes later, we up and left - sure to never return again. This is an annual trip for us and we'll be sure to find hot drinks on a cold day elsewhere - seeing the attitudes inside this cafe were even colder than Vermont on a late November day. I've worked in the service industry my entire career and there are far better ways to let a small room of guests in a coffee shop know that it's time to go. Yikes! read more

Always a pleasure to pick up a warm or iced original creation here! Possibly a rosemary bagel with cream cheese... diVINE! Staff & management are great folks; people know it by word of mouth. It's often so busy inside (I mean, at least during the privilege of pre-Covid times) that there's no time for idle chitchat, so I haven't gotten to know anyone yet. Speakeasy was the regular meeting spot for beginning and nailing down new creative projects, or catching up with old friends. I was pleasantly surprised here! I desperately needed coffee and a break from studying at home, so I decided to check it out. There aren't many options for coffee shops in Rutland... The wifi was a tad slow, but definitely got the job done. It wasn't the most comfortable seating and it did seem a little limited, but it was just fine for the couple hours I was there mid-morning on a Monday. Now the breakfast burrito was kind of weird, it had a lot of sour cream, which made it hard to taste anything else so that was kind of a bummer. BUT, I'm pretty sure they use coffee ice cubes in their iced coffee so that's a BIG win in my book!! read more

Love everything about this place. I am an excellent from scratch baker. I tend to be very critical about other peoples baking. The baking here is phenomenal. No fake chemical taste. Since I've been a mobile faggabond, I've come to rely on these kinds of places for my connection to the rest of the world. Speakeasy Cafe is very friendly, professional, and clean. They serve the locals with great comfort, and the visiting folk no less. We spent an hour or two waiting for a connecting bus here. They are one of the only coffee shops open before all others(7a). I like speakeasy. The coffee (Vermont Coffee Co) is delicious, well made, and I like the fact that I can purchase it here. I also like the wide variety of beverage options- tea, latte, coffee, etc. they have multiple flavors and awesome suggestions. This is the best place to get your coffee in Rutland. Speakeasy also makes AMAZING breakfast sandwiches. The quality is great- fresh, local ingredients. They have cute looking bakery items as well, but I haven't splurged in them yet. I do wish it wasn't so expensive as a breakfast egg and cheese plus sausage, tomato, and spinach cost me about $7.50 the other day. The sizes are small but I'm happy that they aren't huge heart attack breakfasts. I also can understand that the cost is likely because local ingredients tend to cost more. Overall, speak easy is great. It's a nice place to go hang out by yourself or with a friend on a sunny morning. read more
