I don't even like coffee. Truly. I've tried Dunkin', Starbucks, and plenty of small coffee shops, and it's always been a hard no for me... until The Barn Cafe. Somehow, they worked actual magic with their iced maple latte (with whipped cream), because I cannot stop ordering it. I don't understand it -- I just accept it. The food and desserts are on another level. Everything tastes incredibly fresh, and you can tell real care goes into the ingredients. The whipped cream alone deserves its own shoutout -- it holds its texture, tastes amazing, and is clearly not the cheap store-bought stuff. Their dessert cups are dangerously good: the chocolate mousse, strawberry trifle, and the raspberry/strawberry cheesecake cup are all to die for. Now let's talk savory food -- because wow. The jalapeño popper bacon melt is unreal. Perfectly cooked bacon, flavorful jalapeños with just the right kick, and everything comes together in the best way. I've also had their mushroom Swiss melt, and I don't even like Swiss cheese... yet here I am thinking about it days later. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting -- usually quiet and relaxing, though it can get a little busy during rush hours (for good reason). Whether you want to sit and enjoy the space or grab something to go, it's always a great experience. On top of all that, the staff are incredibly kind, sweet, and genuinely welcoming. They're always helpful, patient, and very understanding, which makes the experience even better every single time. I really wanted to love this place, and there are things to like -- the toast was genuinely good, and the raspberry mocha was a nice touch. The atmosphere is on the quieter side, which some people might enjoy. That said, the omelette I ordered with bacon, tomatoes, and cheddar cheese missed the mark this visit. It came out soft and the inside was cold, with the cheese unmelted. It just didn't feel like it was fully cooked through. Second time in this awesome breakfast and lunch place and they still rate the big 5. Friendly, casual, fresh ingredients, great service, excellent salads and superb sandwiches. I had the Asian Chicken Salad, great. My hubby had the Chicken Salad and that, too, was superb. They brought our food to our table. The ambiance was also great, casual, friendly, and amicable. We stopped in at the barn cafe for lunch. I had the chicken pesto panini which came with chips and a pickle. The sandwich came out piping hot from the panini press and consisted of grilled chicken, pesto, parm cheese and tomato. It was great! I ended up taking 1/2 the sandwich with me as I couldn't finish it. read more

I went in by myself at lunch time and they were busy but twenty minutes for a turkey sandwich is too much I asked if it was coming soon, I had to get back to work, and was told by the server "it takes time, there were people ahead of you" I pointed to a party of three that arrived after me that were already eating and was told again, rudely, "it takes time", good to know that, I wasn't aware that it takes time(sarcasm), but my problem was it was taking TOO much time. My husband and I stopped in here for lunch after hiking Mt. Ascutney, and we just fell in love with this place! It's got a really nice homey, local vibe and beautiful artwork on the walls. Lots of people were inside quietly eating lunch and reading the paper. I ordered the loaded grilled cheese, while my husband got the turkey pesto sandwich special, both of which we had on basil focaccia. The sandwiches came hot and toasty, though I was expecting slightly bigger sandwiches based on the price and different bread (what we got looked more like ciabatta than focaccia). I really enjoyed my loaded grilled cheese though and appreciated that they used quality thick-cut bacon inside. My husband also enjoyed his sandwich though wished it had a little more seasoning. So the sandwiches were solidly four star, but the baked goods are what we fell head over heels for. My husband couldn't stop raving over his morning glory muffin. It's everything you want a muffin to be--and more. Moist with a wonderful texture and the perfect hint of sweetness. The pumpkin muffin we got was also excellent. Then I couldn't resist trying a scone...or two, and they ended up being my favorite. The raspberry white chocolate was delightful with big moist raspberries and generous amounts of mini white chocolate chips throughout. The almond joy scone had lovely toasted almond slices, coconut, and chocolate chips. Both scones were flaky and tender inside while beautifully crunchy outside. I make a lot of scones at home, so I'm very picky, and these were top-notch! We'll definitely be back to get more baked goods whenever we're in the area.
