We've come here a few times because my mom loves pastrami (I'm not really a fan, so I get the ham & swiss) but it's unlikely we will ever go back. Pastrami: Fabulous as always. Looked like roughly 1" thick of meat. Fries: Way too many as always but they're yummy. Ham & Swiss: Where the hell is the ham? The tomato slice was thicker than the ham. I opened up the bread and I swear there was just one slice of ham folded over to make it look like something but it was really sparse. On top of that, it costs a whopping $9.60 now. Extremely disappointing. To add to the 2-star decision for this review, the woman at the window wore plastic gloves to handle our food AND to handle the money. Apparently she thinks the point of the gloves is to keep her hands from getting icky. Meantime, she's spreading the absolute FILTH from the money to the food. JUST STUPID. Tried to call the store to voice my concerns and couldn't get an answer. Phone just rang and rang. Tried twice. As I said, it is unlikely we will ever go back there now. read more

Absolutely love The Hat pastrami sandwiches. I've been to several locations and an never disappointed in the food. Since I discovered the Hat in the early 1990's I've seen the price go from $3.49 to the nearly $15 with tax today and it's still worth every dollar. Service is aways great. I paid $36 for everything that we ordered. They portion sizes were good and the food is to be expected from a diner style burger/sandwich spot. I have been talking about going here for months and never got around to it. The service is quick, the food is good and I ONLY saw women when I went and loved it! The Hat is a premium sandwich, burger, hot dog, chili counter service shop and drive thru that makes incredible eats. The restaurant has been around almost 70 years with very high customer ratings. Now I see why! We came in and ordered the world famous hot Pastrami dip sandwich with mustard and extra pickles. This place piles on the warm juicy pastrami on a fresh hoagie roll. The sandwich packed with flavors and is one of the best hot pastrami sandwiches in Southern CA. It's a must try. We also tried the steak sandwich and turkey & avocado sandwiches with fries. Yum, yum and yum. The chili cheese dogs are massive and overflowing with chili, cheese, onions, tomatoes and pickles. It weighed over a pound. Well I hate to write bad reviews but I want to bring this to others attn. DONT add cheese to a sandwich. They do not let you know that it's going to be shredded cheese and I was not even able to eat it because it was so incredibly messy that it fell everywhere. Out the side, bottom,top. Not practical when you're getting something to go . I would not have ordered cheese on my sandwich if the person let me know that it would've been shredded, so I am actually quite irritated. Been a while since I found a great Pastrami spot and I was glad I stopped on this day. Covid restrictions tightening up in CA so I opted for the drive thru. I had to get the "Famous Pastrami Dip" with mustard and pickles. My first time so I did not know what my options were at the time of ordering and with the line of cars halfway to the home depot parking lot I felt the pressure to order quickly. Also ordered a large fry and med coke and the bill came to $20 a person. Wow! kinda pricey for one person. I opted to take this picnic on the road and used the trunk of my car for my blanket because I could not possibly tackle a sandwich of this magnitude while cramped in the driver seat of my auto. The large fry was absolutely enormous and was easily 1lb. They were cooked well with a slight crispiness to them. The Pastrami sandwich was a huge portion with at least 3/4 of a lb of pastrami served on delicious soft french roll. The Pastrami was sliced thin and cooked perfectly. I was very excited to have found this place as I am a Pastrami connoisseur. My expectations were met on this visit and I look forward to my return visit. When are they building on in Vegas??? Like in'n'out, this place is a ca staple restaurant. We had the pastrami and it was as good as I had when I was a teenager, perfectly cooked full of flavor. I'm a big fan of The Hat, I used to work by the original location and there is another in Simi Valley where I grew up, so when I was in Murrieta for an event and I found they had a location there there was no where else I was going to eat and I was not disappointed. The quality of the food is consistent with the other locations I have been too. Their mainstay is pastrami but I am a big fan of the burgers and chilidogs. The place is in the back of a mall a ways from the freeway and looks like an old Carl's Jr. but the Pastrami Dip is, as they say, legendary. I have tried 7 out of the 11 The Hat locations and I keep tabs on the quality and quantity of the chili fries from each. Hands down the largest portion is from this location and no other location has come close. It was so striking to see the behemoth that I had to quip about portion to the server to which she said something along the lines that they should all be this size. That was an epic response but I know the truth. Being a LA resident, I don't frequently drive past Murrieta and am sad that I won't get a chance to validate my experience anytime soon. Went to the drive thru at the Murrieta location off of the 215 freeway. I am not a fan of their pastrami but I love their turkey sandwiches and onion rings. Today I am only giving 3 stars because in the past they would put tons of ripe avocado and you can see in the photo not much to write about. They finally have a smaller potion on the onion rings on the menu. In the past they only had a large size and it was way too much for one person. Today's bill was $18.36 for sandwich, small onion rings and a small Diet Coke. Those onion rings are delicious( probably my favorite for fast food drive thru) but the sandwich was dry and not what I remembered on the creamy avocado . I hear their Tuna sandwich is delicious. On our way to a nearby casino, we noticed that there was a The Hat location about 6 miles away, so we agreed to go there for dinner after hitting the casino. Parking for The Hat was readily available in a large free parking lot. It also helped that there weren't many customers at all in the restaurant. The last time I ate at The Hat was ten years ago at the Brea location, and the place was packed with customers, so I thought it was very odd that there wasn't a line of hungry people waiting to order. Oh, well, this allowed the four of us to place our orders quickly. The employees here were quick and efficient; however, they didn't seem happy or welcoming, but rather robots who knew what needed to be done and just focused on their physical tasks. Among the four of us, we ordered three pastrami dip sandwiches, a large order of onion rings, and three drinks. The pastrami dip sandwich is made with mustard and pickles, unless the customer wants either of them deleted, and the sandwiches can be ordered with extra pickles and/or mustard. I ordered mine with just standard mustard and pickles. My sandwich didn't look like much, but it was very filling. It looked like the employee who made my sandwich didn't care about how much pastrami she placed between the bread, and put about 1/3 more pastrami meat on it. Great for me, because I love the pastrami's slightly peppery taste. The sandwich is normally wrapped in their paper, then cut in half, and wrapped in more paper. Somehow, my sandwich was made differently, and the employee had cut the bottom half of the sandwich in half, but didn't cut the top half, and wrapped everything altogether. Maybe this explained why there was more meat in my sandwich. This sandwich was pure deliciousness, and the bread was not soggy! The large order of onion rings was enough for the four of us to share. The onion rings were fried just enough to make them crunchy, yet pliable, and onions inside were fully round and not overcooked. The inside of the restaurant had a lot of tables available, and there were more tables outside in the patio in front of the restaurant. The four of us enjoyed that there weren't many other customers in the restaurant, and we were able to eat our meal quietly. The beverage dispensers in the dining area were not in operation, and employees provided customers' drinks and refilled the cups whenever requested. There were many more items on the menu, such as fries, hamburgers, and other tasty food, but the four of us thoroughly loved the most popular sandwich at The Hat! read more

Recently stopped by the Hat for dinner before a concert at Pala casino, and as always the hat never disappoints! The pastrami we ordered was delicious, fresh, juicy, perfectly cooked. The french fries were delicious, crispy, perfectly salted. My husband, and I shared a pastrami since they're a good size..definitely shareable! We wouldn't have been able to finish one each, the restaurant was clean the service was excellent. Our transaction was quick and easy.
