This is a great greasy spoon small chain offering what they call "Best Pastrami in the world!" Now that is a bold statement. Still, the pastrami dip is off the hook. I would recommend getting the au jues on the side because if they did it for you, the bread gets very soggy, and the sandwich becomes a difficult mess to eat. Quality is great portions are perfect. It's been at least a decade since the last time I have had a pastrami dip sandwich at the Hat. There a several Hat locations but I've only been to the one at the corner of Valley Blvd. and Garfield. It's just a stand with picnic tables in the rear. The sandwich is wet and for $14 there is a good amount of shaved pastrami. The bun / bread does hold the meat well but is best eaten within 20 minutes otherwise the steam from the hot pastrami and the juices will turn the bun into a soggy mess. I haven't tried any of the other items on the menu. One of the positives is there a large parking lot in the rear. Service is fast. read more

We've been going to the hat for years! We have visited all over the locations here in LA. My husband and daughter love the pastrami sandwiches! I love the avocado sandwiches! One thing we all agree upon are the wet fries! We could eat wet fries every day. It never gets old! My husband also likes the orange soda. Ambience is fine. It's just a sit down place to eat.
