Met some friends out for dinner here, and we were really excited about finally trying this place based on the Yelp reviews and pics. It was better than we had expected. The establishment itself is located in a cozy little spot in downtown Covington. Tastefully decorated and full of natural light, The Gloriette is a charming, upscale little spot that boasts "a taste of European tradition, a touch of Louisiana soul." And they're not wrong. Our reservations were for 7pm and we were promptly seated upon arrival. Our drink and appetizer orders were taken by our server shortly after arriving. To start, the four of us decided to share the honey goat cheese spread and confit pork belly (of which, I somehow neglected to take pictures for some reason...). Both were spectacular. My Sazerac was perfectly made, and my wife really enjoyed her watermelon sugar cocktail, which she specifically noted as not being too sweet. I'm not big on presentation because I'm a pretty simple guy. But when our entrees arrived I couldn't wait to dig in. Everything looked absolutely delicious. My wife chose the braised beef short ribs, our friends chose the filet mignon and the blackened gulf fish, and I opted for the grilled red fish. I only had a small bite of my wife's short ribs but it melted in my mouth. And my grilled red fish paired with the basil pesto pearl pasta was phenomenal. The North Shore is loaded with great restaurants and The Gloriette falls right in line with the rest of them. Truly a great experience from beginning to end. read more

I was really looking forward to dining at The Gloriette, but my experience was beyond disappointing. I ordered a ribeye steak, only to be served what was very clearly a sirloin--a completely different cut of meat. When we brought this to the server's attention, they informed the chef, but he never even bothered to come out and address the situation. That level of disregard for customers is unacceptable, especially at a place that presents itself as a high-end dining establishment. Mistakes happen, but how a restaurant handles them speaks volumes. Instead of making things right, they just expected us to accept it. A steakhouse that doesn't know (or care) about the difference between a sirloin and a ribeye? That's a hard pass for me. Save your money and go somewhere that values quality and customer service. As recent guests at The Southern Hotel in Covington, LA we visited the lounge. We were a part of one of the three events being celebrated at the hotel that Saturday evening. The place was packed, to say the least. Melissa Thrash, bartender, and Christopher Walker, manager, made my husband and I feel like we were the only customers. They showed genuine interest in our travels and they were always patient when talking with us. They also shared information on drinks to try. We were at the lounge for several hours and the fantastic customer service did not lessen. Go visit Melissa and Chris. I am positive you will have a similar experience. read more

My wife and I had an excellent anniversary dinner tonight at The Gloriette in the Southern Hotel in Covington. Lovely understated southern charm and relaxed upscale ambiance, and fine service, with excellent food and cocktails. I had the salmon and my mate had a shrimp pasta dish. Both were excellent as were my Caesar and her beet salads. We shared a dark chocolate torte with cappuccino gelato for dessert. It was all quite enjoyable. The Gloriette is highly recommended and is perhaps the top of the dining mark in Covington. read more

If you want to go somewhere for cute pictures, this place is a MUST! The decor and walls are adorable. We went on a Sunday morning and it wasn't that busy. We got bottomless mimosas and our waiter was pretty good at keeping us refilled. Would not recommend the Caesar salad. The "croutons" were soggy, the gumbo and the brisket were delicious. read more

Took my wife and son there, just to go and the food not even average in taste or quality. It was way overpriced and the portions were for children. At the end I thought why at have a cream burle. They serve it in this huge over sized plate/tiny cup. In the center is this extremely small cup maybe 3" wide and less than a 1/2" deep. Three spoons later and gone and it tasted like it was out of a box. What a joke. Needless to say we'll never be back. I'd rather drive the bridge and go to the city than eat awful overpriced food. Surprised that they are still open. They're even worse than ox lot 9. As if that was possible. read more

Fabulous food, however, the service was highly disappointing. We had been sat but wasn't greeted by our server Nate until about 15 minutes in, in which he introduced himself and offered to bring out water. Lemons were requested with the water, however they weren't brought out with the water. Actually had to ask 2 different times afterwards, which was about 10 minutes or so and finally got them. Then another server came about 15-20 minutes later and asked if he could take our food order, however, we had not even been offered to place a drink order, which we made him aware we had been sitting/waiting. He apologized and took drink orders. I will say drinks were great. I, myself, ordered a glass of Rose' and it was very tasty. Everyone else in the party seemed to be pleased with their drinks, with the expectation of 1 who never got their drink at any point through the meal even after making it known. We were really wanting to get more drinks but felt it was best to not even try to order a 2nd round. Hell, we were never asked how the drinks were or if we wanted to order any additional drinks. Miss out on sales Meanwhile our server could be seen constantly running back and forth frantically as if he was beyond overwhelmed with the 3-4 small tables he had. He then finally came to take our food order and then we of course waited and got food in a timely manner. The food was great and very tasty. I ordered the crab cake and I must say the chef did so well. Everyone in regards to their meals were highly pleased, however the only damper in regards to the food service was someone in the party had to request a condiment(ketchup) at least 4 different times before they got it(took about 15 minutes). Nate, himself never returned after food was delivered, however, he did come to check and asked how it was going pretty much when everyone was done eating, so it made no sense to us. Thank goodness were were a easy party and didn't require much. I got a chance to taste the brie cheese grits and I was so impressed! Overall, the food experience itself was amazing. When it came time to request the checks/bills, that was horrific. Nate split checks up pretty much correctly except for like 3 people and he had to re-do/fix theirs at least 3 times before we could pay and depart. Our party of ladies were very easy going and only ordered 1 round of drinks and food with no requests other than lemon for water and ketchup, however, the service was beyond flawed. We hope to return sooner than later and give the restaurant another try, of course with a more skilled server, that way we can suggest/recommend this restaurant because of its great food it does have to offer! read more

I was staying at the Southern Hotel and had breakfast here at The Gloriette. I ordered the smoked salmon avocado toast....,AMAZING!!

I came here for my birthday and it was unbelievable. Honestly, when I looked at the menu, I wasn't super excited, but oh my - I was proven wrong! We split a Caesar salad, with the most amazing croutons, then I got the Flounder and my husband got the Moules Frites. He said the could have drank the tomato-y butter sauce, and the frites were divine. The sauce on the Flounder was equally spectacular and the potatoes and the tiny brioche croutons so flavorful and went perfectly with the fish. The fish itself was perfect. And then there was the atmosphere, which was why we chose to come here. The service was excellent - i just can't say enough about this beautiful place! read more

This place is such a hidden gem, I can't wait to bring all my friends and family here. I've dined at the Gloriette for dinner a few times before, but this past Sunday was my first brunch experience there. I will say that if you're interested in going there for brunch, you will definitely need a reservation. It was very busy, more so than the nights I'd had dinner there, but we were able to be seated because we had a reservation. There was one little hitch - even though we had a reservation, we ended up having to wait an extra 20 minutes because all the tables were still full. The wait didn't bother us much, as the hostess was incredibly sweet in ensuring we had a wonderful experience all around. Our server, Nate, gave us excellent service. He was attentive but still allowed us the time to enjoy the company of the rest of our party. He was not pushy and easily picked up that we were wanting to hang out for a little while and enjoy cocktails after our meal. There was a large table of young folks seated next to us that seemed to be giving him a hard time, which kept him very busy for a period of time, but we had full drinks and didn't mind because we've all worked in the service industry before and know how demanding & impatient some customers can be at times. The food was absolutely outstanding, I've never had a bad dish here before. The crab cake is my personal favorite, and my husband really enjoyed his omelette.
