This place is a dump! It's bilked a a "dive bar". It is certainly a dive! We tried eating here, but the live music was so bad and so loud we had to take our order as takeout and leave. There were some girls who had much more than necessary trying to dance and sing along with the band, which added to the experience. But they do have a great PoBoy sand! They say the bread comes from New Orleans. The oysters are delicious and they pack a lot into the sandwiches. We will order take out from now on. read more

After searching for a place to eat in Gulf Shores for almost an hour, we finally found this place with no wait. We got a table upstairs outside and we were greeted pretty quickly. We got the crab and crawfish cakes as an appetizer & it was pretty good. The crawfish taste a little old but not all of them. For our meals, we each ordered the seafood stuffed potato and I ordered a pound of snow crabs. Snow crabs were really good! Nice season and fresh (not bad price either). The seafood stuffed potato was ok. The shrimp could not be removed which I was bummed about. Also, the crawfish tasted gross in it. The potato tasted very very dry. No butter provided. At the end of our meal, we asked for a box and put the potato inside. The potato broke apart revealing all the crab meat at the bottom. Once trying it, I realized how foul it was!!! All the meat in the actual potato was gross. The scenery and service was nice but food not so great. read more

This joint has always been more of a late night dive bar that also made really good food. They served huge portions of fried seafood, raw oysters and actual New Orleans poboys served on proper Leidenheimer bread. They did always seem short staffed and sometimes food came out slow when it got crowded so that was the only real downside. I also was able to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal here and it was excellent and far better than I expected. They even offered a Thanksgiving poboy which I only know of 2 places in New Orleans that do that with the one at Parkway Bakery getting huge lines for their version. I was sad to hear that they just closed on October 12th 2025. The good news is that they are opening a new location in Port St. Joe, Florida about 25 miles west of Apalachicola. I hope to visit them at their new location someday sooner than later. I hate for Orange Beach to lose another great dive spot with good to great food served later into the night. read more

Where do I start? My experience here was phenomenal. The bartender, Amy, was extremely kind and very funny! She made sure we were taking care of while also giving us space to enjoy the atmosphere. The lighting is great, very good music choice in the background, everything was clean. The best part of this place is its personality. When you walk in, you are surrounded by dollar bills and custom artwork. Even better, you are given paper when you take a seat and are invited to add your own! Everyone that enters can become a piece of this buildings history if they want. As for the food, my taste buds left crying tears of happiness. We split "Poon Sliders" as an appetizer and every bit of it was melt in your mouth delicious. We also got individual meals, the buffalo chicken po boy and the chicken parmesan po boy, both of which were delicious and filling. Even the fountain soda was perfect! It's got that divey, lived-in charm that instantly makes you feel like you've found a local secret -- but without any of that "you're not from around here" energy. It's local, but totally welcoming. We came for oysters and holy hell -- they were incredible. Fresh, clean, and had a flavor that stood out from anywhere else we've tried. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. Also, do not sleep on the shrimp po' boy -- it was overflowing, seasoned perfectly, and hands down one of the best I've had. The drinks were strong, tasty, and kept coming (thanks to Donavin). Speaking of -- Donavin was the highlight of the night. Bartender, server, and all-around legend. He was cracking jokes with us the whole time, gave honest food recs, and just had that perfect "you're family here" vibe. They also had live music going that totally added to the atmosphere without overwhelming conversation. Just chill, real, and fun. Can't recommend it enough -- great food, great drinks, great people. Stopped by last night. Very warm inside probably 80+. Took a long time to place order. Took a very long time to get food. Five or six employees running around in and out. One group came in sat down and left after ten minutes. Host could not stop counting tables. He seated people at dirty tables three times. I came here previously and enjoyed the experience- I suggested to friends that we go tonight. No reservations are accepted so we walked in as a group of 12. Met with distain. Informed it would be 45-60 minutes and we said that was fine. Again- met with distain that we would agree. Hostess walks inside and returns and asks if we'd be ok sitting outside. We absolutely agreed. She informed us she'd need to seat another party of 11 first. We were fine with that. We asked if we could order from the bar while we waited the 45 minutes. She said absolutely not. When she showed us the tables of 4 outside she stated that we could not move the tables at all. We left. Obviously we were an inconvenience. We tried this location for the first time recently. We had been going to the other location in Gulf Shores every time we visited. We have yet to find a better run runner or tuna dip. We were pleased that both were exactly the same at this location. The place is spacious with 2 bars, one upstairs and one downstairs. We sat at the bar upstairs and enjoyed our bartender. Great place! A little rough on the outside but the food was good. This is family friendly with kids menus (very limited). My kids enjoyed the chicken tenders and the chips that came with them. the chips were very bland so we added lots of salt. The salad was good but we found multiple bugs in it. Also, the beer was really good! They gave crackers with the Gumbo that wasn't very flavorful. The waitress left us unattended for a long time. They didn't clean up when we were done which was odd. Plenty of gravel parking by restaurant. Do not go if you have kids. Unsure if it was a local drunk or just a rowdy out of towner but she should have been cut off a long time ago. We entered the bottom floor and were told no seating available unless outside or go upstairs. We did and it was a dive bar for sure with interesting decor, loud music, rowdy patrons and nastiness. Food on the floor, tables dirty, and rickety seating. Our waiter was nice and did a good job however that is the nicest thing I can say. We ordered sodas and waters. No issues here. We ordered the stuffed potato and fried okra for apps. The apps were not too bad but we were not given plates to eat off of but a piece of paper for a "place mat". We used half a roll of paper towels provided on the table for use due to no other way to eat without using the two plates that the apps were served on for 5 people. We also ordered kids cheese toast (hoagie with shredded melted cheese nothing special), two shrimp po boys, founder po boy, and a kids shrimp. All were greasy, no flavor or seasoning and not tasty at all. We also ordered the house made "chips" which we did not at more than 5 of as they were greasy and tasteless. We left behind most of our food and did not take home more than the okra and a small piece of flounder. For over $170 this is a joke. Do not waste your time or money. Before anyone comes at me we are well traveled and do not shelter our kids from life however a rowdy drunk is not okay for anyone to witness at 4 pm on a weekday. Also, the decor was trashy. I thought the other reviews were being dramatic. "Some people just can't be pleased" and all that. I can for sure say they were not being dramatic in the least. My husband and I ate here 07/19/25 and it took a little over 2 hours. There were 4 tables up top where we were that had people at them. The boudin balls tasted like cigarettes, neither one of us could eat them and they are usually a favorite for us most places. The other food was ok. Definitely nothing spectacular about the food, I think we would have been equally satisfied with a McDonald's fish fillet. Also we ran out of drinks multiple times within this window and it would take forever for someone to come and refill! I will say their alcoholic drinks were really good and very cheap for the area. Love the flounder basket here - flounder is huge and large enough to split - if you want to share, but I never do . The flounder is lightly breaded and flash fried so it comes out light and crispy. Served with Cole slaw and homemade potato chips. Finish it all off with the best BUSHWACKER on the island. We got in late so decided to eat at Flying Harpoon on the advice of the bartender at our condo across the street. First clue was that it has a dark parking lot and you have to climb to the second floor to enter this place. Then they had one very nice server who was pretty much doing everything except the cooking and the bar was packed with loud, obnoxious patrons yelling at each other up and down the bar to the point that those of us who just wanted a nice meal were unable to enjoy it. The food was fine but took a long time and our poor server had to keep apologizing for the slow service and the very drunk guy at the bar who even began using his straw to spit paper wads at his fellow drunks. In my book an establishment that allows over-served obnoxious customers to disrupt the rest of the patrons does not deserve our business and they seem more interested in cashing in on the drunks at the bar than the diners at the tables. Save yourself and your family, especially if you have children, the aggravation of visiting The Flying Harpoon. No food is good enough to have to endure this torture. read more

As good as the original Flying Harpoon! Locals favorite as well as snowbirds! The lightest fried food. Shrimp and Flounder. Perfectly fried without that greasy heavy taste. Jambalaya over brown rice. Pay the extra and get it with "swamp sauce".. Poy Boy come in 3 sizes. They are packed full... sausage with peppers and onions is oozing with flavor. Need has been slow cooked and litterly melts in you mouth. Raw as well as cooked oysters. Plump and just enough briney flavor. Of course the drinks are poured well.... never had a bushwhacker?
