Service was nothing short of outstanding. We went on the earlier side so things probably get very busy from the crowd I began seeing as we were leaving. Crab bisque had a velvet smooth texture, great flavor- needs more crab meat. Gumbo- excellent flavor no added hot sauce needed. Fried shrimp were perfectly cooked. This is an odd menu item, but I'll admit, I'd eat it again: crab and Brie quesadillas topped with hot honey. Not a big portion but perfect with the bisque. This had great flavor! Please don't waste your money here. We had a table of 12. They should have had two servers on this table. At no point during this dinner was drink service adequate. Chilled water was set out when we arrived, trying to get more water after that was like asking for money out the servers pocket. I never got a water glass, then had to ask two more times before getting one. Then got a cold stare when I asked them to clear off the 6-8 empty water bottles and bring some more water. The only redeeming features of the meal, the mojito and old fashioneds were great. The wedge salad was great. The crab bisque tasted good just wish there was more than 2-4 bits of crab in it. My wife's steak was cold. The Pontchartrain grouper, green beans, and mashed potatoes were cold when received. As was 4-6 other people's dishes at our table. I asked to heat my plate up and they were baffled someone would complain about poor food quality. For a $200 dinner, it was disappointing. I typically don't write reviews, unless it is a very exceptional experience or a horrendous experience. And unfortunately this was the latter. Fishers was the restaurant that had been in this space for years and was my favorite!!! Sadly, They closed a few years ago ( not due to lack of business). When we stepped in the elevator my husband said, this does not make a good first impression, it was filthy. The interior of Fishers was gorgeous, elegant and comfortable. It has now been decorated in tacky seafood restaurant decor ( fishing nets, lighthouses, etc) and is painted a bright harsh blue. We are seated and we had two waitresses come to table , we assumed maybe one was in training but they never introduced themselves that way. They were both like deer in the headlights. We ordered a drink and an ahi tuna appetizer. It was a triangular piece of tuna floating in Italian dressing. I could not cut it with my fork. I had to spit it in my napkin. My husband then went to the men's room and when he returned he said " I can't eat here", he said the bathroom was terribly dirty and the toilet was stopped up, and it wasn't utine. He said " you can tell a lot about a business by their restrooms". We didn't touch the tuna again. We asked for the check and she brought the check, never asking "is everything okay?" , "is there a problem with your food"? Long way of saying "don't waste your time or money" read more

The downstairs restaurant doesn't have servers . Who wants to go eat and not have service ? I wish they would have changed by now as everyone complains about it . It's setup to be a Nice place . You have to stand in line to order food and go get your own drinks . Upstairs is a disappointment too compared to what use to be there . The food came out so fast, that I wasn't even finished with my salad and my 3 yr old daughters burger had raw spots. the potatoes were instant, not fresh. After two lunches here I am downgrading the downstairs to 3 stars. Spent $81 for three folks with no alcohol on today's lunch. Kind of awkward to check in, get a menu, sit down, decide your order and go back to front desk to order. If you want a beer or cocktail they add another step and make you go to the bar for a separate transaction. If you want soda or iced tea you walk all the way across the restaurant to get it and refills too. Sushi rolls are good and plentiful so I give them a 4-4.5. My tuna salad was a 3. Plenty of ahi tuna but they oversoak the greens with dressing and leave the rest of the salad soggy. We ordered a hush puppy app and they came out raw. The redone versions were too dry with zero flavor as described on the menu. This is the second app ordered in two trips and neither rate higher than a 2. Atmosphere is good right on the Marina. Might try the upstairs part next time as it is full service and has a somewhat different menu. read more

This used to be our "go to" place under the previous owner. The new owner stopped all wait services down stairs, you or your food at the hostess stand and your drinks at the bar. You pay for them separately. Told the receptionist I liked it better before, she said most folks do. Asked if there was a feedback form, she said no, he doesn't want any. While the environment and service were pleasant, the food was underwhelming. Because I shared dinner with my family, I got to try the crunchy shrimp roll, smash burger, oyster po-boy, and Big-Shipp sandwich. The crunchy shrimp roll was quite bland and the tomato salsa that it came with was unnecessary. The smash burger had a strong pickle taste if you're a pickle lover! With the oyster po-boy, I only received 6 oysters. Considering the sandwich was $18, I definitely expected more. The Big-Shipp was by far the best deal! The sandwich came with a good quantity of chicken and the chipotle sauce was pretty good. Overall, the vibes and staff of the restaurant were great! However, the food is mediocre. I had never tried the upstairs (fine-dining) experience at this location, and so gave it a try for our anniversary. What we encountered there was far less than stellar. The floors desperately needed a sweep, the barstools were peeling away, our chairs stuck to the floor and were covered in food scraps, dishes we were finished with were never cleared from our table and the entire place seemed unprofessional and understaffed. And while tasty, our lump-crab topped entrees came with only a tiny bit of crab. For the price, we had expected much more. read more

This is a nice spot st a marina, with views of the boats and water. The beer selection was limited, (3 or 4) but we found something. I had the fried seafood platter which had plenty of shrimp, oysters and grouper. It also had a deviled crab which I gave away! Everything was great (except the deviled crab.) This was an anniversary dinner. We have been to the physical location when it was another restaurant and were excited to go here, as we remembered how lovely the previous establishment was. Wow!! Not in a good way either. The server was fine and the food was mediocre but, the cleanliness of the establishment and unsanitary practices of the staff was abhorrent. We went at 5 pm, not at closing time. The floors were filthy, utensils laying on the floor, counters in hallway to the bathroom looked like a single man's apartment before eviction. I can't even come up with an appropriate descriptor for the baseboards- appalling. The bathrooms had no toilet paper to use but plenty of it and paper towels on the floor and in the stalls. Entering and leaving the restaurant by the stairwell should have been the first clue. The multiple double doors by the elevators were crusted with grime. The most appalling was the unsanitary practices observed by our party of the staff. They sat in the hallways or leaned against the wall typing on their phones and then went to serve customers without washing their hands. Their back door was left wide open, while servers sat outside by the doorway , while 2 others threw food over the railing to feed the fish. The flies were prolific coming into the restaurant from the door. This restaurant has potential but clearly has a managerial problem if it is this unsatisfactory due to cleanliness alone. Was so excited to try this place since Fisher's was my most favorite in OBA. We booked a table for upstairs, and all the wait staff were super friendly! We started with crab claws and the "Shipp-faced" cocktail and an Aperol spritz. All were very good! All together we tried the Mahi mahi, swordfish, oysters (Cajun & Rockefeller), crab bisque, and the wedge salad. Both the mahi and the swordfish were overcooked and under seasoned. The swordfish was meant to come with "pineapple salsa, coconut butter, & toasted coconut." The pineapple salsa was not made with fresh pineapple, and there was no coconut flavor whatsoever. Oysters and crab bisque were good, but not the greatest we've ever had. Wedge salad was phenomenal. House-made dressing and crispy onions made this my personal favorite of the whole meal! All in all, it is definitely a jump from Fisher's. Dockside dining also looks very different. Not sure if it's worth dropping the money and another night of vacation to come back. TLDR: Skip the fish, grab a cocktail or two, and don't expect Fisher's-caliber or bang for your buck read more

Shipps Dockside Grill has taken over the space in the Orange Beach Marina. The decor is beautiful and soothing with simple accoutrements. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive, talking us through the menu. I ordered the grouper which was fantastic! The flavors exploded in my mouth. My husband had the filet and he was very pleased. Best part of the whole adventure was we were able to make reservations, so no waiting. Definitely a favorite in the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area. read more

We use to love going to Fishers and was hoping Shipps could have kept the upscale dining experience. However the quality of the food is awful and the space is extremely dirty/used. The barstools at the bar are so worn, lights off at the bar (bar use to have lights showcasing the wood, glass and liquor), bathroom was not clean that we honestly thought there is no investment to maintaining the Fisher experience. Customers look displaced and as a local I'd rather go into Pensacola. Food was average and served lukewarm at best. Will never go back. Bartender on the other hand served good cocktails. Grouper ponchatrain stated shrimp, mushrooms and lump crab meat. It was cooked well but zero lump crab meat. The menu had other issues. Did not list anything that came with entrees. I'm going to give this one a 4 but that's a generous score considering our experience. I'm am going to chalk this up to being new but the food lacked seasoning and the staff was clearly clueless... I really wish restraints in OB would learn how to season food and stop catering to my 90 year old grandma. The only restaurant in OB that has great food is Zekes and Voyagers. We were fans of Fishers over the years and hope this restaurant can redeem itself. I've been here 3X so far, once for dinner, once for lunch and once for brunch. The dinner and lunch were downstairs and brunch was upstairs. The sushi for dinner was amazing and the smash burger and blue cheese balls for lunch were so yummy! Great wings as well's. The brunch was the best, though. $34 for 3 courses, $9 for a mimosa flight, $3. My husband and I got the crab omelette, which was amazing. I got the avocado toast as my first course and that was amazing as well. The Creme brûlée wasn't great but my husband's key lime pie was awesome. We celebrated our anniversary at Shipp's because a local recommended it. It was fabulous! We shared a blue crab dip appetizer, which could have been a meal. I had Chilean Sea Bass, Gouda mashed potatoes, and almond green beans. My husband had Mahi Mahi. Both were delicious. We shared a bottle of Spanish Proseco. It was a wonderful meal. Very disappointed in my visit here. The food was very mediocre. I have had better fish literally everywhere else i've been. I asked for creole oysters and did not get them, instead I got some type of fried oysters that were mediocre at best. My fiance asked for a mojito and he never received it. We did go on Valentine's Day and they had a special menu where you HAD to get an appetizer, main dish, and desert from that specific menu. This would have been fine if it was advertised, but it was not. Don't like being surprised by having to have an $85 per person 3 course meal that was mediocre at best. Food was ok, but service is terrible. Front desk hands you menus and you sit wherever you want. Most tables are for four and we had six. Not a huge issue, but we were in charge of moving tables. To order, you must return to the front desk where I waited behind other customers and tried to remember everyone's order. You pay there where they apply a tip. Just install a kiosk which would be much easier. Next you get to go to the bar and wait to order drinks. Bartender acted like she was my ex wife. Couldn't make standard cocktails and was rude when I asked for water cups to retrieve my own water. It's all pretty much self service, but they ask for tips at each step. Maybe it's just a staffing issue and the employees are unhappy about it? read more
