Would love to review the food, but our party of 11 was told to leave after an hour and a half wait because one of the hostesses thought she overheard a member of our party being rude to her. She was not, the hostess was mistaken. The "manager" backed up her employee and we were told that we would not be served - after an hour and a half. I respect a manager backing up their employee, but there is a much larger theme here and Cobalt clearly dropped the ball. The lobby area was completely packed and loud, the manager was ENTIRELY disinterested in anything we had to say and didn't care at all that we had been waiting an hour and a half. Cobalt clearly doesn't give a crap whether or not you come back or leave a bad review. The local restaurant choices for large parties are limited, and Cobalt is so busy they apparently don't need to worry about customer service. We won't be back, and I strongly suggest that anyone with a large party avoid Cobalt. read more

Great service and pretty decent food. 4 out of 5 Stars We come to Gulf Shores quite a bit, but we haven't been to Cobalt very much. We decided to give them a try tonight. The place was packed when we drove up. The Hostess at the front desk said that we would have a 90 minute wait. We stayed anyway. She took my phone number and sent me a confirmation text that put me in the queue. We waited in our car out in the parking lot. I got a text 30 minutes later that our table was ready. Our server, Tyler, was exceptional. He commented on my wife's earrings (they resembled his mother's). The guy was personable, professional, knowledgeable and courteous. He did his best with our pacing, but since they close at 9:30 and it was already 8:30 when we were seated, the back of the house was probably more concerned about getting the food cooked and out on the table. Salads were good and so were Oysters Rockefeller. Delicious. My wife ordered Shrimp Fra Diavolo and it looked amazing. She absolutely loved it! Tyler warned her that it was spicy, but that was right up her alley. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits. While the shrimp were cooked very well, the grits left something to be desired. They needed to be creamier with more cheese (and maybe pieces of bacon or andouille sausage?) They also needed either a spice note or a citrus note. The menu states that they are supposed to be jalapeño cheese grits. Well, there were no jalapeños in my grits and the lack of either a spice note or citrus note left them tasting bland. The presentation and plating were nice however. We were greeted by two different managers while we dined, which was impressive. After dinner, we didn't order dessert, but grabbed some gourmet cookies at the counter on the way out. Lemon coconut and chocolate chip with coconut. All in all, Cobalt is a nice establishment with good food. Next time, I think that I will try the Bronzed Grouper (their specialty), the Blackened Redfish, or the Shrimp Fra Diavolo. We came for lunch. Was seated right away. Beautiful place. Staff very friendly and attentive. Wes is an awesome waiter! My shrimp and grits were amazing! So much flavor, probably the best I have ever had. He got the special which was the amberjack Oscar style. It was cooked perfectly. Very fresh. We had the fried apple pie for desert. He loved it. You walk in and are greeted to a huge and impressive bar with many chairs to sit at if that's your style. Cobalts holds a lot of people with a very roomy indoor area, high ceilings and a lovely nautical motif. And if you want to enjoy the outdoors they have a delightful outdoor area with beautiful foliage everywhere. It overlooks the Perdido Bay on one side and the Gulf of America on the other. Just a gorgeous view. Now to the meat of the matter, or in this case shrimp. Starting it off with appetizers was their BBQ Gulf Shrimp. Delicious and fresh, sautéed in a Creole butter sauce and served with grilled French bread. Just an amazing flavor combination. My main was the Shrimp Fra Diavolo. Again with the shrimp, lol. Sautéed with roasted mushrooms, onions, chargrilled lemon, fresh spinach, and arugula with spicy marinara and angel hair pasta. And when they say spicy they mean spicy. I loved every bite. Our server was just plain awesome. I was floored when she told me this was her first job serving. Always checking to see if anything was needed. We came on a Friday night and the parking lot was pretty busy. We were seated right away, and our server appeared ahortly. Service was fast for most of the meal, but towards the end of our meal, two very large parties were seated in our section and it caused a small delay. White BBQ Pork Tenderloin was great. The meat was very tender and the brie gnocchi went perfectly with the Brussel sprouts. I had a painkiller sans alcohol and it was divine. The icing on the chocolate cake was delicious, and the house made espresso ice cream was very complimentary to the cake. I dont recommend the sweet potato beignets. This is a CLASS restaurant. They really know how to treat their customers. Friday night we had a party of seven. We went again on Saturday late afternoon. The servers were excellent & attentive. The Food was FABULOUS! Everyone raved about the food. I had the Diablo Shrimp Pasta one time . And last night I had the Zydeco Grilled Chicken Pasta. Both of these were a hit!! Cobalt's is such a fun spot - and really indicative of the vibes in and around Orange Beach. The food is great, and the service is some of the best I've had in a long time! There's a huge free parking lot attached to the restaurant, which is always a perk worth calling out. A big heads-up that if you're looking for a quick dining experience, this isn't the place. Cobalt's doesn't take reservations, and you will wait at least an hour (but maybe closer to two hours like we did). However, there's a bar outdoors that you can grab drinks from while you wait, and the view of the bay is beautiful enough to keep you occupied for a long while. When we were finally seated inside, our server Tyler greeted us like we were long lost friends and shared all of the day's specials, along with several menu highlights. He made it clear to us that there was no wrong order, and after sampling a good bit of their menu, I have to agree with him. I also want to say that the great service we received from Tyler made up for the long wait just to get to our table ... and then some! I ordered the fresh catch of the day, which was swordfish. I opted to have it prepared grilled, and it was cooked perfectly and served with buttery green beans and a Cajun-inspired rice. Our group of seven tried a little bit of everything, and I'm not exaggerating when I say every bite was delicious. From the halibut special to the grouper to the steak to the tuna ... it was all extremely fresh and full of fun flavors. P.S. If you're a fan of oysters, these are some of the freshest I've had. The food was decent enough, nothing fantastic to write about. I will say that my tuna salad should not have been brought out to any table. The salad itself was good, but the tuna coloring was off. I did not eat the tuna, I just ate the salad surrounding. I did not send it back, although I should have alerted the waiter and kitchen staff. Everyone else seemed happy with their food. My daughter said her pizza was amazing. She laughed that the pizza was so good at a seafood restaurant. For the price of everything, our waiter should have been nicer or at least put on a happy face. My wife & I hit up Cobalt for the first time on a Sunday evening about 7pm. Here's how it went: Wait Time: Initially we were told that the wait for indoor tables was 20-30 min and outdoor tables was about an hour. Food: The wife ordered the Zydeco Chicken and I asked for the Bronzed Gulf Grouper. Both dishes were excellent. Fresh ingredients and great flavor. Atmosphere: Lively, but not deafening. We were about to talk easily and still be heard. The decor and layout of the restaurant is very good. Clean, and a great view from windows inside to the water past the outdoor seating area. Tables seated after us were getting their food 35 mins passed I waved the server over....no food just yet:-( My burger arrived less the topper, my husbands arrived soooo over cooked it was pathetic. Sent the burger back but at this point way order something else and wait?? Runners may be the challenge but ultimately the server needs to be aware who's got what who doesn't and checking in... A battered crispy shrimp in an orange umami sauce. Very tasty! For a meal, I opted for the catch of the day: a local caught Amberjack fish grilled, with jambalaya rice and fresh green beans.
