This is a new spot in a location that has been quite a few different restaurants over the years. Old Salt Tavern looks nifty from the outside and it seems that it has a sports bar vibe when you walk into the space. It was Memorial Day and there seemed to be quite a few folks waiting to be seated although there was lots of available seating in the restaurant. I chose to sit at the bar for my first visit and I was able to quickly put my order in but the bartender informed me that the kitchen was running behind so it would probably take awhile. I ordered the grouper and it came with a caesar salad which also had what they described as a "croissant" well I've eaten a LOT of croissants and this was absolutely not a croissant and it was just a plain roll in the shape of a croissant! A proper croissant has many layers inside of it which were totally missing in this roll. They either need to serve actual croissants are just say they serve rolls as their is a big difference between those two types of bread. My fish entree was fine while I wasn't so happy with the side it came with. For the price I know a lot of other spots with far better food than this spot. Overall they have a nice space here and I might try this place again in a year or so to see how it is doing.

5 wings (garlic Parmesan with ranch to dip)

My parents and I popped in here for dinner our first night at the gulf about two weeks ago. After our large lunch on the trip down, we wanted something easy and that had good appetizers we could share instead of a huge entrees and this fit the bill perfectly. I get the impression this is a newer restaurant. It's in a large strip mall and there was adequate parking. They were doing a pretty good business on a Thursday night around 7 PM. The inside has nice TVs and a sort of more upscale sports bar feel. There's a good bit of seating and it's very open. The women's restroom was spotless when I visited it. Our waitress was Lucy and she did a fantastic job! We felt right at home and she answered all our questions and made good recommendations. During our time there, another waiter inadvertently spilled about four large drinks right in front of the door to the kitchen. It was nice to see the entire team come together to help him and they got it cleaned up quickly and without complaint. Great teamwork! We ordered 2 pretzels with queso and Creole honey mustard, my dad got the 5 wings with garlic Parmesan and ranch iirc, and we also got the smaller order of "nachos deluxe." Our food came out in a timely manner and was hot and fresh. My favorite thing was probably the pretzels and queso. The pretzels had a heavy dusting of Parmesan and salt and were super soft. The queso was a great accompaniment. I wasn't super crazy about the honey mustard but nbd, the queso was all I needed. My dad really enjoyed his wings and was appreciative of Lucy's garlic parm recommendation. In addition to the pretzels, my mom and I split the nachos. The homemade chili on top was tasty and a pleasant surprise; I was expecting more of a taco meat vibe but the chili was slightly sweet and very umami and VERY filling. These were definitely solid nachos. I personally would have preferred pickled jalapeños to fresh, but my mom was relieved as the fresh ones don't tend to come quite as "juicy" and it was easier for her to avoid the spiciness (as she's a heat weenie, lol). Overall, a very solid spot for higher quality bar food with lots of American classics and a few nods to the coast and NOLA. There's likely something for everyone here, and it's extra nice that it's served by friendly and professional waitstaff.

Great place to escape the heat and enjoy a beverage or great meal. Plenty of screens for sports, and live music Friday and Saturday nights. Our service was on point. The waitress was very attentive, drinks were full and food was received in a timely manner. Drinks ordered were a Jalapeño Margarita on the rocks and a Whiskey (type?) with Strawberry Puree. Nice beach vibe concoctions. The Calamari with lemon aioli and mango chili mojo was hot, fresh, crispy and tender. Delicious! The Club sandwich with house-made Tavern Fries, loaded with cajun turkey, shaved ham and smoked bacon on toasted sourdough, really hit the spot. This thing was HUGE! So good! The Fiesta Salad was a beast, and also very, very good! As if more was needed to complete this dish, it was served with a piping hot Croissant with Honey Glaze. OMG! ~Too bad those aren't separate menu items!~ Both plates could easily be shared. We'll definitely be back!!!

Great for a dinner in Orange Beach! Service was good, someone was consistently checking in on us. And my burger and fries were yummy! I loved the unique fries too.

Stopped in for a few drinks, really nice place in Orange Beach! Had their loaded nachos and fries (just trying apps), all were good and came out super fast! The bartender was really friendly and it was crazy how fast the place filled up! We will have to come again for dinner!

Apparently it is not important enough to service staff to understand what is like to have someone in your party that has a food allergy. The most important thing, is to have the ability to empathize with your guests, and make their experience a good one. If there is an issue with cross contamination in your kitchen, then create an area in the kitchen solely to address those with food allergy needs. For example, when your customer tells you the sprite has no flavor, you don't just come back and tell them it looks fine to me and everything is hooked up. Try tasting it yourself and at least bring a new cup of it to the table. Don't come back empty handed. Then there was the Crab Cakes. After all of the seafood places I have been to in the southeast I found these crab cakes to be just so so. If you are going to deep fry them, please understand that the crab meat will turn to the consistency of tuna salad and is not pleasant to eat whatsoever. Perhaps skip the breading/deep fry and pan fry them instead? While the breading on the crab cake was crisp and delicious, it was a little off setting to have mushy crab on the inside. Again, this was a beautiful venue with a great view. I am troubled by the lack of attention to detail, especially when it comes to addressing your guests.

When we first arrived at the resort, we were in awe by the beautiful landscaping. We arrived early and decided to have a cocktail at the resort bar before our dinner reservation at 7:30PM. There was live music in the lounge area. When we checked in for our reservation, we were seated right away by a window, which I requested. The view was nice. Our waitress was quiet and seemed very busy with multiple tables. For appetizers, we ordered the fried quail knots and a bowl of soup. For dinner, we ordered the duroc pork chop and 10 oz filet. For sides, we ordered Bayside Blue Mac and Potato Hash. Overall, everything was VERY rich and decadent, heavy. The pork chop was tough, the filet was very thick and tough, the sides were salty, saucy, and heavy. Overall, the resort is nice and the view inside the restaurant is pretty but the food was too heavy and rich for my liking.

The first thing that impressed me was the ample parking. The restaurant also has a small private beach area for customers, along with a great bar area overlooking the water. The property is handicap accessible with both ramps and stairs, making it easy for everyone to enjoy. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by Assistant Manager Taylor. He made me feel extremely welcome and even recommended a lunch item from the menu. I took his advice and ordered the Pork Ribeye Sandwich, and it was absolutely amazing. On the side, I had a salad with their homemade ranch dressing. Without a doubt, this is some of the best ranch dressing I have ever had. The bartender, Cody, was outstanding as well. I tried the Lime Margarita, Blackberry Mojito, and the Strawberry Basil drink. Every one of them was fantastic. You can tell this is a place that people genuinely enjoy working at. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the customers all seemed happy to be there. It's rare to find a restaurant that gets everything right, but Avenue Pub comes very close. If you're anywhere near Orange Beach, I highly recommend giving this place a try. I'll definitely be back.

ATMOSPHERE Nothing too special about the atmosphere here. I just love that. It was nice clean open area with large windows and plenty of seating and easy to get around. The bar area look cool and the layout was nice. FOOD this is why you came here, right! All kinds of fish cooked all kinds of different ways. Delicious gumbo. Love that pimento cheese ball appetizer with that blueberry pepper jelly! For lunch, I had the meat and three. It was all good, especially the collard greens. SERVICE THIS WAS MAYBE SOME OF THE BEST SERVICE I HAD THE WHOLE TIME I WAS IN ORANGE BEACH THIS WEEKEND. OUR SERVER WAS SO AMAZING. I HATE THAT I CAN'T REMEMBER HER NAME, BUT SHE WAS ON TOP OF IT AND SUPER DELIGHTFUL. DRINKS The bar area looked really nice. Most of my table had iced tea which everybody enjoyed. I also got a beer from the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I was very impressed by their beer selection and they are a verified venue on the Untappd app so you can go to that app to look at all the beer selection and even filter and sort the beers so that you can have an easier time selecting the proper beverage. It even came out in a glass that matched the beer that I had! I like that extra touch.

But it was brought with the meal. The salad was fresh and crisp, with a surprise of a small Peppa dew pepper. Blazing red with a little heat and delicious. Haven't seen them in a restaurant ever. Unfortunately my fish and potatoes were cold, cold and butter congealed. The greens were warm and good I had also ordered the cornbread. It was refreshing to see that it wasn't the usual cake like kind, plus not the ultra sweet kind either. More bread like with a hint of sweetness. Delicious. The fish and potatoes had a nice flavor but unfortunately the cold food spoiled the experience. Since I was a guest of my sister I didn't say anything about the cold food. What a disappointment. Maybe when I return things will be better.

My advice, find a seat, have someone order at the order window, then head to the bar to order drinks. The wait to order food took about a half hour. It was very quick to get our drinks. We were able to snag a couch area on a platform. It was so comfy and we loved the views. A heads up- if you snag a couch like this, kids will get up on the platform and jump off of it. People will step up on the platform and walk extremely close to you. I had to ask a kid to stop throwing sand by us because we were eating our dinner. It was a little chaotic. We were extremely patient and understand, but I could see some people being very upset and annoyed. After ordering, our food came out pretty quick. I started with the coconut grouper bites and they were phenomenal. Light breading, lightly sweat, and flaky. I had the Gulf Grilled Cobia and it was phenomenal. The fish was tender, flaky, and light. No fishiness at all. The sauce on the fish was also delightful. My husband and son had the fajita skewers and both enjoyed them. My husband also had the peel and eat shrimp and said they were amazing at The Gulf. Our drinks were okay. We had better drinks at other places during the week, but they weren't bad. We would return, but try to come on an off-time that wasn't so busy.
