Great newer place in the Gulf (new to me at least.) Even though it's across the street from the beach, the views make you feel like it's beach side. The snapper was fantastic and super fresh. A little too much sauce on it (the sauce was a 10/10 just a little too much) but that can always be removed. The shrimp and grits are a HUGE portion and probably enough for two people. Again, too much sauce for me, but still very tasty. Drinks are super cheap compared to other places around as well and they have a great selection. I ordered the Gulf Shrimp and Southern Chicken Tender. The shrimp was really good, and the fries that came with it were okay. The hush puppies had corn in them, which made them a little sweeter which i liked, but they were also pretty dry. I tried the coleslaw but wasn't a fan, so I didn't eat it. The chicken tender platter was disappointing because neither the chicken nor the fries had much seasoning. Also, be aware that there's a $2 upcharge if you want to substitute a side. I swapped the coleslaw for broccoli, but I only received three pieces. Overall, most of the people in our group agreed that the food could have been better. read more

Grits, period. The grits are a 10! Some of the best I have ever had. The grilled grouper was fantastic. Loved the creole sauce. Husband loved the crab cakes and I would say they are 3 for me. Tuna dip grew on me but I think it needed more smoked flavor. Next time, grits! read more

Staff very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. From the moment we got in the staff was so positive and helpful. We sat outside on a beautiful day for lunch the inside of the restaurant was clean and the decorative ascetics were very well put together. They sell shirts and hoodies just like all the other beach places to eat at here. This is definitely a family friendly place with virgin drinks and a get kid menu. I have to say that, even though we may not have had a good experience food wise, our server Kayla was outstanding. And the view, because we sat outside, was nice as well. I don't know if it's because we showed up too early for the dinner rush, because there really wasn't anybody there yet or what happened, but our food overall was not particularly good. I had the Caribbean Salmon, which was very dry. I have no idea what it was glazed with. It was supposed to be over fluffy rice, that was off to the side and hard as a rock. And served with freshly made pineapple pico, which it wasn't. Our server did bring it, and it was all peppers. The other dish was Gulf Shrimp Platter with hush puppies, fries, and breaded okra, The breaded shrimp was not bad. As it was lightly done, and had good taste. The fries tasted like they sat there. Decor gets a decent rating. The problem with that...you can't eat the decor. That said, the decor would probably taste better than the food. Order several entrees as our party had seven people. Fried platter was nothing special. Low land crab boil was not seasoned when cooked, the food was placed in a boiling bag plated, and a ladle of brown sledge consisting of butterish sauce mixed with ole bay seasoning. This was not appealing at all. One grand child order a cheese burger. It came out to the table after what appeared to be hours under a lamp in the kitchen. Served dry and significantly over cooked. We sent it back asking for a fresh one to be made. Just a couple of minutes later, another arrived basically raw. Drinks are significantly over priced for premix bottom shelf. We are so happy we chose to stop here tonight! We initially weren't so sure as we had seen some questionable reviews. However, we were really wanting to find an affordable seafood boil that included crab legs. We decided to go ahead and give this place a try. They do have quite a bit of parking, however it is a big place and busy. We ended up circling the building a few times and scoring a spot right near the door. The hostess greeted us promptly and we had no wait at all. Murphy and Josie really made this a winner for us! They recommended drinks based off of our personal preferences and kept the waters filled. Josie answered a couple of questions about the meal we ended up going with and suggested the hush puppies. They were an excellent edition to the meal. Two of us shared the Grand Gulf Seafood Boil and an order of hush puppies. We found it to be the perfect amount for us with no leftovers. The mussels were a highlight for one of us and the crab was a winner for both. Both Murphy and Josie checked on us multiple times throughout the meal. This is a new restaurants by The Hangout folks and it is an interesting spot. I decided to have my first meal in the bar area as nobody else was in the bar while the main dining area was pretty crowded. I've never had good experiences at The Hangout with their food so I was cautious about what I was getting into here at The Catch. So they had swordfish as their fish special of the day so I immediately chose that as I do love swordfish! When my food arrived the swordfish looked fantastic while the sides were very unimpressive. For the price of my lunch I think they could have done far better with their sides. I have had far superior swordfish plates from several other restaurants in the area like Cobalt. The swordfish was a winner but it wasn't any better than other area restaurants swordfish I've had and while the swordfish portion size was fine the sides portion sizes were pathetic compared to the competition in the area. I liked the restaurant and bar ambiance but for the price and portion size I get treated better at other spots so I don't see much reason to return here. read more

We chose to go to The Catch so we could take our fur baby with us. They have a nice porch area that allows well behaved dogs (thank goodness no other dog was there so ours was well behaved ). Any way we started with fried pickles which were delicious. He had the fish platter and I had the Gulf Shrimp platter. Both were very good and the atmosphere was nice. Right across from the water and they had a bar on the porch so drinks were quick. Definitely would go back next time in GS. read more

First time coming here since new owner took over. CONS: There was wayyy too much grits in the fish and grit bowl for the ratio of blackened grouper. The entrees both were $25 and I feel it was a touch over priced. PROS: The restaurant was newly renovated. Staff were nice and quick with service. Great location and view of west beach. The blackened grouper and redfish were very tasty and perfectly cooked. The tuna dip was very tasty, paprika to top and perfectly salted tortilla chips over shredded icebergs lettuce. I will definitely get the tuna dip next time and some type of fish, but probably not the grits because it was really heavy. Perhaps a salad over a fish filet would be great! read more

Instead of the Catch they should call this place the Trap. We waited 35 minutes not too bad, prices average for any other beach seafood restaurant, waitress was friendly but sped through serving us like a steam train. Which is exactly how the bussers ran through the restaurant to clean tables. One girl nearly trampled me & my toddler twice on the way to & from the bathroom. We got the "grand" steam pot, fried pickles & the gulf shrimp platter. The steam pot was simultaneously, over cooked & under cooked at the same time. The shrimp was too tough to eat, not to mention not deveined so you also needed a pooper scooper to eat the rubbery little things. The potatoes completely disintegrated in the pot, like you couldn't even pick them up with a fork or your hands to eat them. The corn was still ice cold when you sank your teeth into though & our portion of crab legs looked to be about half the size of the table beside of us. The crab legs were good though. The gulf shrimp was good & the hush puppies were good. The fried pickles were good as well. Our waitress Hannah like I said was friendly enough but was so focused on running to the next table that I could have told her the food tasted like Seagul piss & she would have grinned & said "awesome guys, I'll be back with your check" without hearing it as she ran to the next table to do the same. We were gonna ask for a to go box & a to go drink but she was too quick for us, so we left our 20% tip as usual & let her get back to running tables through as quickly as she could. We were ran over by a male waiter on the way out who obviously was trained with Hannah. Let's start with the most important part - the food. We ordered two appetizers (calamari was not even slightly warm) and fried pickles (good portion size and was warm). This was the highlight of our entire experience, which is quite sad. Our server, Grace, was absolutely miserable to be serving us. She would frequently walk away while we were still ordering. Instead of setting drinks in front of the individuals who ordered them, she sat them all at the head of the table and had us pass them down. I'm not one to comment on "smiling service" but it was extremely evident that we were the largest inconvenience to her. Aside from the terrible service, the meals were also cold. The portions were reasonable for the price, but the crab cake BLT was cold (not warm, actually cold), and the fish was dry.
