We were staying at the hotel and didn't feel like leaving to find something to eat, so we decided to try Perch. I do suggest you make a reservation, because depending on the time and day, it can get packed. Perch is upstairs with indoor and outdoor seating. It also has a bar inside with TVs. We actually sat outside, but I did notice they only had one bartender and while she was very busy, she worked her tail off to get those drinks out. For my appetizer, I ordered the lobster bisque. Although it was creamy and pretty good, it did not have enough lobster in it, especially based on the price. For dinner, I ordered the seared gulf fish, which came with corn and crab chowder and some potatoes. I also added a side of grilled shrimp. This dish was really good! It was served hot and the fish and shrimp were fresh and well seasoned. Unfortunately I can't remember our waiter, but he was super nice and patient and gave us some great suggestions. We celebrated our anniversary at The Perch and had such a wonderful evening. From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect. The food was absolutely delicious -- we enjoyed raw oysters, lobster, and shrimp, and every dish was fresh and full of flavor. The staff made our night extra special by surprising us with a complimentary crème brûlée to celebrate our anniversary, which was such a thoughtful touch. I also had an excellent old-fashioned, and we loved getting to try some new whiskeys from Alabama that we'd never had before. Ambiance was surprisingly disappointing. I made a reservation. I asked if it was cooler inside or out and was told inside. When we arrived it was hot inside; this is upstairs and while the downstairs restaurant was cool upstairs was not. I asked if we could switch to outside. Me and my wife came here on a date night, I was very upset it wasn't better it's a beautiful spot but the food does not match the place it's just cheap food overpriced and over worded to sound fancy the new menu just does not match the ambience. We did not get our appetizers until 30 minutes after we ordered. None of the appetizers on the menu looked appealing. We ended up getting the pretzel charcuterie, it was disappointing to be $30. Pretzel was extremely dry, tough to cut large pieces of cheese, small pieces of cheese canned artichoke hearts some cherry tomatoes a mustard dip and a couple pieces of meat. Not great at all. We also ordered the burrata salad not impressed either. Cheap food and expensive prices. I don't mind paying money for good food but when it's cheap food just thrown together it's very upsetting. I ordered a filet and didn't come out after 120 minutes so I canceled it and didn't eat a meal. They blamed it on lack of a line cook and having a new menu then all they did was say sorry and took off one 13$ drink it's definitely not worth it but it's such a beautiful outside seating our waitress was great and the staff was very friendly, but we don't think we'll be back here. We tried this place recently for a date night and had a good time. We chose an outside table so we could enjoy the sunset on the beach. Our table was quiet and secluded which was romantic. Our cocktails were great. The French 75 and Manhattan both had great flavor. The gulf grouper was tasty, but was a little on the saltier side. I enjoyed the gnocchi and rock shrimp. And the winner for the best drink of my life goes to....Perch's coconut margarita!!!!! And the winner of the most unique and delicious appetizer goes to....Perch's grilled octopus!!!!! Listen, Gulf Shores is not exactly a foodie destination, but this?! Y'all! This is special. The restaurant sign is small and hard to spot, but it's the building just to the right of the main entrance where the valet drop off is. The parking lot is just a short walk down the sidewalk from the restaurant. The server was attentive, not obnoxiously, and gave great suggestions when asked. The views from the outdoor dining space are stunning...can see the pier, beach, ocean, and moon rise. The sun sets just over the adjacent building but does cast all its golden glory on deck. And when the stars come out, so do the little table lamps and outdoor firepits. It's just lovely. Most people were dressed for a nice evening out, but it still felt beachy in the best way. The whole fish was beautiful but a lot of work and kinda gross to dig into. Hubby accidentally popped out both of its eyeballs. The sauce and salad were good, and it was well cooked; you just need to know what you're doing to tackle a whole fried fish. The scallops with pork belly had all the promise of something spectacular, but the pork was a bit dry/overcooked, and the zucchini spirals had no flavor. Worst of all is that the scallops were seasoned with coarse salt which would remind anyone of sand when eating shellfish. That's a big mistake....no crunchy scallops, please. The good so far outweighs the bad that I will return every beach trip. The coconut margarita is dangerously delicious and unique....honestly my favorite cocktail of all time! And so pretty! And the grilled octopus was tender and served with chorizo in a soul-soothing broth served with sopping toast. This dish feels like a homey cabin in winter....but at the beach. I can't explain it other than "comfort food" with a big burst of warming flavor. I would never have put chorizo with octopus, but I'm so glad someone did!!! Cue craving! My husband got the Spanish styled braised Octopus, a dish that had purple potato, chorizo, and grilled bread. He really liked it, but I didn't care for it. I had Seared Diver Scallops, with Green pea, mushroom, palm hearts, and truffle. They were good scallops, just not enough of them. I could've eaten that as an appetizer and still eaten a whole meal. I was celebrating my birthday, so they gave me complimentary crème brûlée. It was the best ever! 2nd visit: We wanted bread, so we paid $8 for it. My husband was aggravated bc he thought the prices of meals here, should grant us free bread. Anyway, the fresh made in the kitchen, roasted garlic loaf, served with whipped butter, was a hit. And, it was cooked medium, not MR like I ordered. My daughter had the $46 FILET MINION that was cooked perfectly to order. They made us feel a little special, by bringing us knives that had marble overlay to cut our steaks. Guess that's a treat for the up-charge on the meat. My husband got the $42 SEARED GULF GROUPER with Roasted Red Pepper Succotash, Smokey Tomato Broth. He really liked it, but I didn't care for it at all. You would also think at these prices, it would come with at least one side dish, nope. So, we had to pay another 10 bucks for Brussel Sprouts to complete our meal. The Brussel sprouts were truffle and honey-roasted (delish,) so I guess that justifies us not getting plain ones free. My daughter wanted the crème brûlée again bc it was so good last time. But, she was very disappointed to see they had taken it off the menu. Since we were celebrating my birthday again on this visit, they gave me complimentary gourmet chocolates. This is one of the nicest restaurants on the island, but too pricey for what you get. One would think paying these prices would prevent people from bringing young children, not! This place is one of my favorites on orange beach/gulf shores. I tried this place with my husband last week and want to go back already. Mushroom fries with their sauce were perfectly crisp! I recommend that as your appetizer Scallops were such a good choice i was in between a few but the corn purée with the crispy pork belly were a hit. There was nothing left on the plate. My husband got the fish of the day and the portion size was very large we were so surpassed! Parking was easy it was a large lot that was sandy/rocky! The waiter we had was super kind and we sat outside. Even with the heat going on right now it wasnt bad due to the ocean breeze and shaded patio Nothing was left on any plate and cocktails were delicious. I am so excited to come back to perch. The steak was good but requested medium and butterfly cut and the cut was uneven and caused the outside piece to be overdone and the inside to be medium rare. I ate what I could but didn't send back as we were in a tight schedule. The Caesar salad and soup were very good as well. The desserts were from a prior visit where we did dessert only and they were very good - including the pics here. Oh my goodness, what a gem. We have eaten at Foodcraft before and it was really good. Perch is also super We were not eating much, and we ate a lot. I had the Octopus with chorizo and crusty bread.... Y'all, this is an amazing preparation. The octopus is so tender and delicious. Mixed with the chorizo, the juices at the bottom are perfect for the bread. My wife had the stuffed pretzel, which is a charcuterie board wrapped by a really good pretzel. It was fantastic. Our daughter had the chicken with the kale bread pudding and it also was great. You can't beat the ocean view at the Perch, it is really great environment for a casual or elegant meal with inside and outside seating available. This is more of an upscale restaurant so service is not fast. You do not feel like they are trying to rush you out the door to clear the table for the next guest. So service may be different if you are not used to that. I would say to plan on at least 1 1/2 hours for a meal with apps, meal, drinks and dessert. read more

My wife and I have been coming here for our anniversary for several years, and have been treated like royalty every time. Our waiter, Tyler, has a higher than typical focus on making you feel special, and we'll ask for him every time. You can't beat the surf side location and with the natural area beside it there's really not many people between you and the ocean. We sat on the top deck outside against the railing. Beautiful. Since it was our anniversary we had the seafood tower, which was very filling and fun! Lobster tails, peel and eat shrimp, and other great beach food. They even brought us a complimentary champagne. Unfortunately has gone downhill slowly the past six plus months. We have been here twice since January and most recently last week. All our dishes were over salted; from the scallops to the fettuccini/shrimp dish. The lamb which is my go-to was uncut so the lollipops were in three bone sections. Orange Beach is a part of the Emerald Coast, and my hope was to find even more gems scattered on the shore as it pertained to fine dining at the Perch, however, at best this place left me with nothing more than a firm lump of coal in my hand. Months in advance the rez was made in anticipation to celebrate the upcoming marriage of one of our mad lads whilst on his bachelor party. We strategically booked the upstairs private room at a time just after the main dinner rush, but also not too in hopes that the staff would be able to accommodate. We arrived 15min early and waited until at least 15 min beyond our appointed time to be seated. I did not mind this too much as the views and vibe around the restaurant gave off the appearance of an upscale experience. Alas, I was soon to find that this was no more than a façade. A cloak of deception, which unfortunately not soon enough was revealed because ample amounts of wasted time were the only thing this place could guarantee for our group. Once we made it to our table the waitress introduced herself. We placed our drink orders and eagerly awaited. The eagerness faded by the 30th minute when she had still not yet returned with even water or a draft beer. There was a grand TV centered on the wall which we asked to turn on for entertainment though this was merely an expensive decoration because the server with a quip exclaimed it did not work and moved on. By the 45th minute one of the lads went on a side quest to find the bartender or server in hopes of securing at least a sip of foam off of someone else's beer and was told there is but only one bartender and to be patient. At the hour mark the server finally came around with our libations. Nothing fancy was requested. An espresso martini here, an old fashioned there, and maybe a frosty boy or two. My personal favorite cocktail belonged to the lad in the group who ordered a Manhattan, which unfortunately brought great disgrace not only to the spirit, but also to the city as a whole. Flabbergasted we all were to see a $15 cocktail served up in a plastic cup, which most people would not even find available at the local diner. The explanation was a shortage of clean dishware, but heck we at least transferred the drink to a wine glass. At this point we took the opportunity to kindly ask the waitress to take our appetizer orders, which she begrudgingly obliged after a 5-10min reprieve to gather her notepad. Again, we knew they were pressed so we kept it simple with a few Cesar salads, a stuffed pretzel (imagine a Charcuterie on a pretzel), and some fries. At almost the two hour mark not a one of the dishes found it's way to our table, and by this point our spirits had been crushed. The happiness and anticipation with which we arrived deflated like a New England football in the late 2000s. Feeling defeated we knew it was time to cut our losses and went on yet another side quest to find our server who was as helpful at the letter k in the word knife. She by this point was fed up with our apparently unreasonable requests to eat food at their restaurant and so the manager instead did come to the table. He was a nice man who profusely apologized and his chivalry has motivated me to give this place at most a two star because I do have hope for the future if they can fix their staffing and their service. In the end, our apps came right as we were packing up to leave. My $14 plate of warm lettuce and a single sad anchovy did little to salvage my hunger and much less my evening. A hefty bill was paid for the lot of us just to gain our freedom. There was a moment that we thought just maybe John Taffer himself might emerge to shut it down. Sadly, our cries for help were not answered and instead we moved on with our night, which on the bright side did get substantially better from there on out, but no thanks to the Perch. Summary: -menu and location has potential -service and slowness will be the death of this place read more

I stopped in here for lunch, and it was not busy. Initially, our server was attentive, but she dwindled off as we spent time there waiting for our food. The food was nothing to write home about. I did see the menu, and I gave it a shot. I did have the flatbread pizza that had honey on it. The honey was overpowering on the flatbread, and honestly, I am not sure that it was not a frozen pizza. KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: This is a Tapas-style restaurant where it is suggested to get at least three plates per table. We got six including dessert and were STUFFED! It can get a little pricey if you don't expect it. At least $75-$100 per couple in my opinion to enjoy the experience. Atmosphere: if you have been to "The Gulf" - it's the swankier, nicer, and more elegant cousin! Lots of fire pits and couches, one of the best views on the beach, and the interior tables are posh and trendy! Not a place for your favorite t-shirt -- but shorts, sandles, and Sunday shirts are perfectly fine! I certainly didn't expect this at a State Park! Food: Excellent!
