We were at The Wharf in Orange Beach doing some shopping and hunting for a solid lunch spot that wasn't a typical tourist-trap beach restaurant. We stumbled upon Bird Dog Chicken and it turned out to be a great find. The restaurant is locally owned, with friendly staff and a steady stream of locals coming in for both dine-in and takeout. We ordered three of the Four Piece Chicken Tender boxes. Two were rolled in their Louisiana Hot and one in the classic Hot Buffalo sauce. The traditional Buffalo was the clear winner for us -- the Louisiana Hot had a bit too much of the 'Louisiana' seasoning for our taste. That said, both sauces were excellent: hot enough to satisfy without being painful, and packed with great flavor. Included Ranch sauce was great too. The chicken tenders themselves were nicely sized (noticeably bigger than Raising Cane's) and came with a generous portion of lightly seasoned fries. Everything was fresh and crispy. Location-wise, it's super convenient -- easy to hop back on the road or head straight to the beach afterward. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Orange Beach! Highly recommend. read more

I've been meaning to try this place since they opened. I love wings and was excited to try theirs. I ordered a 10 ct of wings and split them into 2 sauces: Nashville Hot and Mango Habanero. I usually will not get sauces and especially any sweet ones (usually dry rubs) but I do love nashville hot and I'll eat a sweet if it's got a spicy side. Both of these were really good and I dipped them in their jalapeño ranch, that ranch was so good! The girl behind the counter was very sweet and she upsold me on the okra, I love okra and wasn't expecting now much of a portion this side was going to be. Overall I'd go back and I like that they have a drive through, I've heard their salads are good and I'll try that next. Don't judge me but the food in this pic I ordered all just for me. Let me start by saying the sauce was for no ordinary person it had amazing flavor with a a lot of heat the chicken was juicy and their homemade ranch was amazing. This recently opened locally owned and operated business that does one thing, chicken! To be fair they do have some sides and they do a full breakfast and are open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My first experience here was a good one with a good friend. I'm always up for some good ol' chicken and I had been hearing good things about this new joint. It was formerly McClure's bagel shop but a good chicken spot is always a good addition to the culinary choices. There's no whole pieces of chicken but rather chicken wings and tenders, much like Zaxby's but the differences end there. So between us we ordered wings and tenders for the full experience and the orders came with some delightful shoestring fries. Another similarity is their sauces choices, like Hooters, they have a nice variety of different choices, mild, hot, lemon pepper, mango habanero, Nashville hot, teriyaki, honey siracha, and Asian persuasion. So I went with mango habanero and Nashville hot, while my buddy went with mild. (wuss :-) The wings are not battered and fried but naked covered in the chosen suace but the tenders are breaded and fried. You can choose from several dipping sauces as well, homemade ranch, jalapeno ranch, homemade blue cheese, honey mustard, and their own Bird Dog sauce. I had the blue cheese and bird dog sauces and they were both very good. The tenders wer moist and not greasy and were quite enjoyable and my wings were of a good size, moist and cooked perfectly. Combined with the flavors and dipping sauces of choice everything was quite good and we agreed that we'd return for more. The setup is easy, walk up to the counter, order and pay and they bring the order to your table. There's seating for 32 people inside and 16 outside, and there's a drive thru, the place is clean, the staff is friendly and organized. Went to the new Robertsdale location and I wasn't impressed. Our tenders were really salty and I could barely eat two of them. Our ranch was chunky. They don't tell you drinks aren't included with your meal unless you ask, they just asked what I want to drink. Also she said it was $31 and I was charged more than that. I understand the cash price is different but I'd like to know what the card price is when I am paying with a card. I asked for a receipt and I got a transaction receipt not an itemized one so I can't see what I'm actually paying for.
