We went and there was only one person working the register and making food, which left me waiting a long time for food that generally is pretty quick when I've orders at other locations. It was also the only reason I stopped there that day- my kiddo was getting hungry and I was nearby and it seemed like a quick , fast choice. The place has a weird smell, the portions have gotten smaller (not sure if it's just a thing at this location) and there is still an expectation to tip. I love good, healthy eats and The Flame Broiler looked like a promosing place for this. I came to The Flame Broiler with some coupons that came from the mail. I used a $1 off coupon for "The Works" bowl. "The Works" bowl comes with chicken, beef and steamed veggies. I chose to get it with brown rice versus white rice. I was pleasantly pleased that getting brown rice over white rice did not cost any more. Not having to pay extra for brown rice is a rarity nowadays. I got The Flame Broiler magic sauce on the side. I also got the spicy sauce on the side. "The Works" bowl was really good! It was nice to see that the bowl had it's fair share of chicken and beef on top of the brown rice and veggies. Both the chicken and the beef were flavorful but I liked the chicken the best. It was tender and very tasty. The veggies were good but the cabbage was a tiny hard. I did dip the veggies and chicken in the magic sauce but the sauce was not very "magical" for me. I felt the sauce was a bit on the salty side. The spicy sauce was better in my opinion than the regualr sauce. I felt the spicy sauce had a hint of tabasco. Honestly I was fine with my bowl without the sauces. It's tasty enough to not need the sauce. It was my first at The Flame Broiler and I found the bowl I ate very fulfilling. Good stuff. You get a nice full bowl for your money. White or brown rice on the bottom. If you get veggies, they will be next on top followed by whatever meat you picked. I go with the white meat chicken. You can also get green onions to finish it off. And don't forget to add you own amount of magic sauce and magic hot sauce. They actually have quite a bit of parking. Something rare in this area. And there are enough tables inside to find one empty or sit outside in the small patio. It's clean fresh and good. read more

Although the parking here sucks, I would say that the customer service at this one is by far the best out of all the other ones I've been to! Their staff are always friendly and helpful, especially if it's your first time. They have really helped my aunt and my girlfriend feel welcome! It's very very very clean inside and very spacey for a small place! Another cool thing about this particular Flame Broiler is it's really nice outdoor patio, which also has umbrellas outside for shade! Torrance Food Crawl #5 Many years ago I visited this branch, a few weeks after they had opened. I have little memory of that visit except that I wasn't overly impressed. Since then I've visited several other The Flame Broiler outlets and have come to like their cuisine. The menu is pretty simple, a rice bowl or plate, with white or brown rice, with chicken, beef, or tofu, and some vegetables and onion. Optionally, this branch will also add Kimchi for $2 more. This time I went for the regular size Tofu bowl, with brown rice, vegetables, and onion toppings. The rice was more white than brown (I guess they make brown rice the same way a lot of Chinese places make it, take some white rice and mix it some brown soy sauce), however, it was still good tasting. The tofu was ample and pretty tasty as tofu goes. The optional vegetables and onion were fresh and added some additional flavor. There are several sauce choices; I didn't try the 'magic' sauce this time, but I did try the 'hot' and 'hot hot' sauces. The orange colored 'hot' sauce is saltier and uses red peppers, while the 'hot hot' sauce uses less salt and green chilis. To my taste the 'hot' is fine, while the 'hot hot' is definitely hotter but doesn't have as much taste to it. Overall, the regular sized bowl is filling, good tasting, and pretty healthy too. read more

[Review #142] 2016 Yelp 100 Challenge (4/100) Flame Broiler is comparable to Beef Bowl except it seems healthier (protein is not fried, but "flame broiled" & chicken is skinless) & slightly costlier than its competition. I took a late lunch & couldn't find anything in the fridge, so I trekked my way over to FB. Flame Broiler is located next to my go-to Thai restaurant, Khun 9 Thai Restaurant. There's a small parking lot located behind the restaurant. Since it was a late lunch, I either missed the lunch crowd or this location typically is not crowded. Upon entry, I noticed the well-lit & clean dining area. Since this was my 1st time, I kept it simple & just ordered the 7 oz. chicken plate to-go. When the cashier started asking me questions, then I looked up & noticed the "order board." You start with the order size (i.e. mini, regular, or plate) & protein/entrée (i.e. chicken, beef, the works, chicken or beef veggie in regular, or 1/2 + 1/2, ribs); white or brown rice; green onions; beverages, extras, or sides; & where you would like to eat: dine in or takeout. Simple efficiency! So efficient that my order was ready in minutes. There's 2 places where you can load up on hot sauces, by the register or on a counter to the left of the order line. The counter was clean & well-stocked of your essentials: hot sauces, condiment containers, napkins, etc. Nothing turns me off more than a dirty, sticky counter with low or no supplies, & greasy, sticky condiment bottles; FB was c-l-e-a-n!! It took me about 15-minutes to walk home. I was surprised that the rice was still piping hot, but the chicken was bordering on lukewarm. :-| The "sauce-basted" chicken was not saucy at all. I don't mean saucy that it's oozing liquid, but the meat was quite bland that I had to dump a lot of hot sauce on it to give it some oomph. The chicken was also somewhat dry. Maybe instead of basting the chicken, they should marinade it... by doing so, it might make the meat more tender? 7 oz. is a lot of chicken but I was super hungry (I have a little one that I'm nursing); the plate had just enough chicken & cabbage salad to fill me up. And the orange was a nice touch to cleanse my palate & ending to my quickie lunch. FB provides a quick, decent meal if you need a pick-me-up, but it's average at best. read more

They offer regular size bowl and plates for bigger portions. Charbroiled meat's always tasty here. I know brown rice is healthier but I still prefer white glutinous rice. They offer veggies but I'm not a fan of blanched veggies. They now also offer tofu, which I haven't tried yet. I like to add umeboshi and miso soup I whip up at home with it. Fyi, I believe they still offer a side of kimchee at this location but it's kinda pricey. Also there's a Ralph's Supermarket down the street that offers $1 off regular bowl or plates at Flame Broiler on the back of the Ralph's receipt. read more

Although Rascals Teriyaki Grill originally opened my eyes to the world of chicken teriyaki, The Flame Broiler has fostered that love into an obsession. If I had my way I'd be here multiple times a week, but I don't want to hurry into this and take it to the next level before we're really ready. Rascals incredible molasses-like teriyaki sauce is the key to its approach to the chicken teri bowl, but Flame Broiler counters with a emphasis on the quality of its meat and the surprising addition of green onions. Given the choice, Flame Broiler edges over Rascals in my book. Their sauces come on the side, and it takes a certain amount of finesse to determine the right combo that works best for you. Just as those infomercials have ingrained into my brain that everyone has their own 'sleep number,' I believe everyone has their own 'teri/hot sauce ratio.' It takes some tinkering, but it pays off in the end. My only gripe is with their plastic forks. I'm not sure if it's due to the rice being tightly packed, or the forks being just plain ol' flimsy, but I keep having this feeling that I'm about to break my fork in half. I happened to be in the area of this Flame Broiler yesterday (03-17-2014) and figured I would stop in for lunch. This location is located on the corner of W. Carson Street & Arlington Ave and offers its own dedicated parking lot for patrons. As I was driving to this location I looked at the time and it was the heart of lunch hour so I figured it might be difficult finding parking but it was not. I walked in and found the restaurant extremely busy with quite a line but it moved quickly. As I waited for my turn to order I looked around at the table and found them all to clean, the condiment section to be clean and the drink station to be spotless. The floors of this establishment was spotless and that is quite impressive with the amount of foot traffic. I did not get a chance to walk into the bathroom to check the cleanliness but will make a point of it for my next visit. My turn arrived quickly and it was time to order. I was helped by an extremely friendly & helpful cashier 'Teresa.' I ordered a 'works' bowl with brown rice, veggies, extra green onions, no sauce and the chicken & steak cooked well done. I was handed my receipt, advised of my order number and then sat down and waited for my order. Surprisingly with the amount of patrons and the time of day (lunch) my food was ready quickly. My number was called and I was handed a 'to go' bag containing my food. I felt the bottom of the bowl and could tell right away that my order was cooked perfectly based on the temperature. I took my 'works' bowl back to work and even after a 10 minute drive of so the food was still piping hot. The food itself was cooked to perfection. The rice had the perfect consistency to it, the veggies were hot but still had that crunch to them, they loaded on the green onions as requested and the chicken & beef was outstanding. I have only visited one other Flame Broiler before and it is nice to see these chains popping up and offering the healthy option. It is also nice to see the consistency in the quality of food from one location to another. Without question I will be stopping by here a lot more often. I regard this place as an Asian fast food joint. You place your order, wait for a few minutes, and go from there. I enjoy going to Flame Broiler because they grill your order fresh, it doesn't take a long for them to have your meal ready, they have many sides to choose from, like kimchi and kalbi, and it's inexpensive. I like getting their chicken bowl (w/ onions) or their beef ribs (kalbi) as a side. They have nutritional facts about what you're eating in the restaurant as well. They either do chicken or beef bowls/plates with veggies or you can do a veggie bowl/plate as well. They also have this "magical" sauce, which is similar to Japanese teriyaki, and they also have this hot sauce. What I like to do is mix them both together. A bowl is about $6 and a plate is just a few dollars more. They also have brown rice as an option, but it will cost you a little more. Staff here is friendly and they are closed on Sunday's. That's the only bummer for me. They have a few tables inside or you may eat and soak up the sun in their outdoor area. The restaurant is kept clean and you can phone in your order. read more

A regular Chicken Veggie bowl is only 440 caloris but they charge extra for the brown rice and all white meat so it comes out to $7.40. I *really* like that they lay out the nutritional facts for all items, unlike other places that claim to be healthy but than don't tell you what's in it. Next time I'll probably just go for one of the mini bowls since I could only make it through half of the regular bowl. I wasn't blown away by my meal and I thought it was a bit expensive for the healthy options (Great sales strategy to market its healthiness and than charge more for it), but considering healthy eating in this area is slim pickings I'm sure I'll be back at some point. read more

I always load my plate with a lil hot souse and terkyaki sauce( ehh spelling check, but ill keep writing...lol). They dont offer that many dishes. I always get my usual The Works with Onions and a drink. Delicious. I definately recommend The Flame Broiler if your looking for a cheap and filling meal. This is it!!! I came here on a whim because it was a) 6pm aka dinnertime and b) on the way to a friend's house. I ordered a mini beef bowl with brown rice and onions on top for myself and a regular bowl with the works (chicken, beef, and veggies) on white rice for my boyfriend. I don't exactly know what I was expecting because teriyaki in general is kind of generic at most places and because it is "healthier" than other places. The chicken wasn't that great, but the beef was good! The mini bowl was surprisingly filling enough for me, as I do typically eat smaller portions. The most unhealthy part was probably the magic sauce. It was a little dry without it, so of course, I put some in my mini bowl. I also decided to "splurge" (in a way) and get the bowl of kimchi. I say it's a splurge because it was $2 for a bowl of it, and honestly it's much cheaper at home. But I really wanted some to eat with my bowl, so I went with it. It's the type of kimchi I personally like, which was good for me. It was a solid meal and I'd probably come back for more. I've tried their chicken and beef plates, and they were just 2-star okay for me. The teriyaki-type sauce is kind of bland. The beef has a slightly gamey taste to it and a pretty strong ginger taste. This place promotes healthy eating, yet they give a lot of white rice. I give another star because I do like that they add fresh crispy salad and orange to the meal. I first fell in love with Flame Broiler in San Diego since there was one close to campus. When this location finally opened I was so happy since I pretty much had it at least once a week. It's just like any typical teriyaki spot but what makes Flame Broiler good is the sauce. Their sauce is just so damn addicting and it's free to get more. I hate going to places where they are stingy as hell with their sauce and make you pay for them. I want my rice bowl drenched in teriyaki! Can't go wrong with the chicken. I do find their beef overcooked sometimes so I tend to stick with the chicken. Free substitution from white rice to brown rice. Generally I get double meat with my chicken bowl. It adds around $2-3 to the final cost but it's worth it. Don't you just hate it when you run out of chicken and there's only rice left? Don't get that happen by getting the double meat haha. Sad. Went here today because it was pouring down rain and it's right across the street from me. I ordered my usual beef plate. The order came out unusually fast. Less than 4 minutes. I usually wait about 10. I guess that wouldn't have been such a bad thing, huh... I get home, the food looks good as usual. The meat was very very dry and hard to swallow.
