Best fish of any fish and chips shop in White Rock area. Great quality, never under cooked. Just wish I could get more for the dollar.

Moby Dick - Great

I ordered the platter that came with a whole bunch of stuff including fried oysters, scallops and shrimp. A small place that can get pretty busy but worth the wait.

Moby Dick's is obviously a busy place in the summer, being right across from the waterfront -- but…read morein January, it's a sleepy area and the restaurant is active, but not too busy. We found the food unremarkable - standard fish, standard chips, standard coleslaw, standard tartar sauce. All fried food is pretty standard, pretty greasy, but not any better or worse than many fish & chips shops. So why a 3-star rating rather than 4-stars? First, there is there menu and pricing: What is called a 1-piece fish & chips comes with 2 pieces - all identified fish comes with one extra piece. It's a gimmick, and mostly just annoying. 2nd, there is a charge for everything -- Want tartar sauce? There are three sizes, three prices. Want to substitute onion rings for the fries? Can't do it, even with an up-charge, though you can order fish and you can order onion rings, each separately, each with its own price. Coleslaw? Yes, but not instead of fries. And the coleslaw is pricey - a good sized portion, but a substantial price none-the-less. The portion sizes are reasonably large, but the incessant a-la-carte with each item with a price - one feels nickled and dimed to death. The atmosphere - ok, 1950s-ish, nothing special. The staff, friendly and attentive, but young and inexperienced. And then there was the problem with the cooking -- we got 5 pieces of fish (ordered 2 and 1, which is really 2+1 and 1+1 = 5). Four of them were pretty standard. One was undercooked - cooked on the outer edges (under the fried batter), and raw and translucent on the inside. Yes, they took that off the ticket, so I didn't have to pay for it, but biting into a piece of raw fish with the outside so hot it almost burned my mouth and the inside uncooked - not so pleasant. Moby Dick's gets good ratings from many Yelpers, but in my view, it's not worth going out of your way for.

Once my order was completed I found a seat and started to eat. The seating area is limited and if various options, a couple tables here and there and a counter by the window. The fish was crispy and nicely battered and chips were decent. Fish size was again decent i wouldn't say the largest nor small but regular in size to decent fish and chip places. Overall nice, I think strong decent fish and chip place but imo overhyped. It's not bad but nothing mind

It was messy to eat Po Boy, but that wasn't an issue. Baguette was so crunchy on the outside it was perfect! There was some arugula, kimchi and 3 pcs of oysters in it. I also ordered fries it was huge! Fries were bit salty and overcooked I tossed it out in the end. I left my water and soda to drink them later after heading to washroom. Staff cleared my water and soda away. I still had half of soda in it. I felt thirsty after eating my food in the end. It'd have been nice if she asked me first before clearing dishes. I don't think I'll go back.

We opted to sit near the window. The room is nicely decorated and the tables all have good lighting and are well spaced apart, so conversation is easy. It is quiet and very relaxing. The food and service were really good. We told our server that we were in no rush and he allowed us time between courses. He was very good explaining all the specials of the day to us. There were only 2 servers but they seemed to handle the full dining room very well. They had a special appetizer, soup and entrée. We shared jumbo prawns in a sundried tomato aioli as an appetizer. It was lovely with 5 jumbo prawns perfectly cooked in a delicious sauce. For entrees my husband had a New York steak with tomato and bone marrow butter and I had wiener schnitzel. My husband's steak was perfectly cooked and one of the nicest steaks that we've had. My wiener schnitzel came with spätzle and red cabbage. It was better than the wiener schnitzel that I had recently at a restaurant that specializes in German food. We shared a chocolate lava cake for dessert. It was served hot in a small ramekin and come with vanilla ice cream. It was a good way to end our meal. It was a great night out.

I would have liked the meat to be a little more well done (especially when they ask you for your preference) but overall it was delicious and a generous portion. We also brought our toddler along to the restaurant. I was pleased to discover they had a kids pasta meal (need to ask the waiter for the menu options). We chose the pasta and butter parmesean and added prawns for an additional charge. Our little one loved it and slathered the pasta sauce all over their face as they were eating. Final note: this restaurant doesn't have high chairs available so if you little one still needs some sort of booster seat, you'll need to pack your own.
