We have been coming here for many, many years and undoubtedly this is the worst meal we have ever had there. The fries were obviously old and erefried in order to revitalize them. Unfortunately, it was an epic fail because we were left with dark, very oily remnants of what should've resembled fries. The fish was substandard as well. The batter wasn't its usual crispy self and a few mouthfuls of the fish were not as expected, leaving an off taste. On a positive note, the service was as it always is, excellent. She was courteous, efficient and anticipated our needs. Prices being as they are these days it's important to keep the patrons coming back. We realize it's a difficult go for all the restaurants and service related industries but if your customers aren't happy, they may not be moved to write a review.....but the end result is that they will not come back and maybe in the worst case scenario they'll tell two friends, who will tell two friends and so on and so on.... read more

The best fish and chips going! All varieties of fish and seafood offered are extremely fresh and delicious; batter's thin and both fish and chips are crisp, coming in very large portions. Quick, friendly service for both restaurant and take-out, with an open, busy, efficient and very clean kitchen greeting patrons on entry - a really good sign! The restaurant itself is bright, well-maintained - not fancy, but need not be, the food speaks for itself - and again, very clean. C-Lovers Fish & Chips is my "go to" place for fish & chips on the North Shore. This place is one of my favourites, lots of good memories and celebrations here. It's been years since I visited c lovers. (My previous review was almost exactly 5 years ago, to be exact!) So on a sunny weekend after a full day of hiking, my friends and I were super hungry and decided to try out their fish and chips. Well I'm happy to report their fish and chips are still pretty good! The wait staff were friendly as always and were attentive in getting what we needed, be it refills and whatnot. It was late afternoon after the lunch rush so we were seated right away so no wait times. My friends and I were very hungry so we all decided to get the buffet deal. This meal included unlimited fish, chips (fries), and bottomless pop for $16. Not a bad deal at all. The fish was not soaking in grease and more on the crispy side (only some were a little more greasy than I would have liked) and the fries were well sized and cut. And of course, the tartar sauce and ketchup they provided made it taste even better. The drinks were not watered down unlike some fast food places i've been to. Here's an important tip: you wanna equally space out your pop drinks, fries/chips, and fish. If you eat too much of the fish and just order that, you're gonna feel queasy from all that deep fried oily batter in your throat. Eating the fries and drinks really help wash out the over greasy feeling of the deep fried batter. Trust me on this. Too much deep fried food all at once is no bueno! The decor of the walls and floors was exactly the same years ago. I'm gonna nitpick here but it's kinda outdated but still functional and appears clean/sanitized. The tables and chairs could be replaced with more modern and cleaner, nicer looking ones but they are completely functional as it is. As of this writing, the pandemic is still going on so every table was separated by plexiglass and spaced WELL apart from other tables. Masks were mandatory among customers AND staff which was great. I felt pretty safe. The place itself is a little small so all these covid precautions were appreciated. Overall, this is a solid place for fish and chips. If you don't mind greasy deep fried food and are really hungry for good ol' fish and chips, c lovers STILL does not disappoint! read more

I honestly cannot understand why it took me so long to go this place. On the North Shore there is a surprising lack of fish and chips that are not on the rather expensive side. As soon as I stepped in the door I knew I was going to like it. I grew up in Steveston, Richmond BC, Canada and it reminded me of a few places down there. A clientele which seems dot always know the names of the servers. It was a very comfortable and pleasant place to be. I had the salmon and chips and was very impressed. I'm rather picky when it comes to fries and C Lovers just nails it. They are cripsy, flavourful and they give you a huge squeeze bottle of ketchup and tartar sauce instead of tiny little packets. Service was quick and it was obvious this was not food which had been remade and warmed up after the fact. And fish is no carbs so I-ordered all you can eat and gave myself 16 units of fast insulin but it was all batter and that put me over on my carb intake and my blood sugar went and spiked. The fries were crisp and the tartar sauce was just how I like it. I appreciated being offered malt vinegar as well. This is one good place for some fried fish! I remember hearing, and trying these guys acouple years back at a booth at the PNE. I thought it was good there, and then I got to try it at one of their many locations around town, and this is way better than there frying truck at the fair! Hidden along Marine Drive in North Vancouver behind the Church's Chicken, this place is not cheap, and the day I was there, the food didn't even come out fast, but I will say it was fresh for freshly fried and hot out of the fryer! We did not stay to eat, but noticed that many were here for a sit in lunch, and looking up at the chalkboard menu, they were probably here for the "All you can eat" Fish & Chips for $10.99. I do not know how mucn you can eat of this stuff, really, but if you can eat, I guess this is a deal. We had two pieces of regular Fish and Chips, with a side of coleslaw, and as with any place you do take out for this stuff, it's wrapped in the classic paper, then newspaper. Had the AYCE fish and chips today. The fish type is limited to haddock but it is limitless fish & chips, as well as bottomless pop. The fish is freshly fried, and it is crispy not oily. Service is great. The place is well sanitized and follows good COVID procedures such as taking down numbers, etc. All in all a good establishment with sold foods. I have been to this place before couple years ago. The most attractive part of this restaurant is about $13 all you can eat fish n chips. This deal still exist but they give you smaller cod than they did in the past, although you won't expect them to survive too long if everybody order this. The first time I went to C-Lovers 7 years ago, I loved it. I thought their batter was nice and light and that their tartar sauce was very good. I remember going back to this particular location several times. the last time was about a year or so ago when we took relatives from out of town who were craving fish and chips. Sad to say that on my last visit on Tuesday last week, my family and I were very disappointed. We went for the all you can AYCE fish and chips with bottomless pop. I think money-wise, it was a good deal for $11.95. Sad to say that was all that was good about it. Service was alright. We received our orders promptly and the food was served nice and hot. The fish tatsed like it was fried in stale oil. No matter how light and crispy the batter was, the flavour of the oil ruined the taste of the fish for me. The tartar suace that I used to love lacked flavour. It tasted like straight up mayo. I had to add a bit of vinegar and salt to it to give it some zip. Service was alright. We received our orders promptly and the food was served nice and hot. Because of this experience, I don't think we wouldbe going back to C-Lovers for fish and chips anymore. read more

Absolutely the best fish and chips I have had in the Vancouver area. For about $7.00 I got the one piece cod and chips, and I could have easily split it with a friend. The chips are homemade, the fish is fresh, the pieces of fish are large, the batter is perfect and not too thick or falling off. Nothing is oversalted. It has a decent sit down area, but of course for fish and chips I almost felt I had to do take-away. The menu is fairly limited to fish and chips, but they had halibut and cod. Most definitely, hands down, the best fish and chips place in Vancouver. I've been to quite a few of em, and this is the place that I keep thinking about whenever I get a hankering for some good ol' fish n chips. The batter is perfectly crisp, and is much lighter than the other places I've been to. The light batter doesn't engulf the fish's taste, and it doesn't fall off the meat. Onion rings and oysters....delicious! And gigantic! And I always say that a good down home restaurant can be defined on how their fries are, and C-Lovers fries are done just right...! Let's face it, fish n chips will always be oily. But because of the thin batter that they use, it's not nearly as oily as the other heavier battered fish n chip places, that leave you feeling like an oil tanker. My favourite has always been the North Van Platter (or C-Lovers Platter, in other branches apart from the one in North Vancouver), which has a little bit of everything that I like. I'm not too fond of the price hike since I first started coming here, but it's definitely worth it. After all, I don't think it's a good idea to be eating fish n chips more than once a week (maybe two time's at the most), so the prices are quite affordable for a treat. The all you can eat fish and chips are GREAT quality, an amazing price (although, they upped it $1...sneaky bastards), still a great value. We stopped at C-lovers to grab a parcel of fish 'n chips to take with us on a picnic at Cleveland Dam (the bottom of Grouse Mountain). The staff were a young team of friendly guys and gals and although we didn't eat in, the dining room seemed clean and pretty comfortable for a fish 'n chip joint. The prices seemed a little high for me ($12.95 for 2x haddock and chips?) but I totally admit that I may be in a time-warp when it comes to fish 'n chip prices. Fish 'n Chips were a Friday staple throughout my child hood in New Zealand and the expression "cheap as chips" was correct - you could feed the whole family for $15! BUT, that was a solid 20 years ago so I'll cut them some slack. The haddock we got was nice and fresh and firm, the chips (fries, ok...fries!!) were OK, not great but I have certainly had worse. I did sample the "Oyster Burger" - 3 deep friend oyster served in a bun with coleslaw. Kind of crazy, fairly yummy, definitely give them points for originality! Overall, C-Lovers was A-OK.
