This was my first time in York, PA and the food at The First Post did not disappoint. We started with a bunch of appetizers and of the selection the crab dip was my favorite. I ordered the crab chowder soup which was a cream based soup and it was delicious, it was rich and creamy and had a bunch of crab. I especially liked the old bay seasoning that was sprinkled on top. For my entree I order the shrimp primavera which was delicious. The shrimp were a medium size and the pepperoni elevated the flavor. I really liked all the gluten free options. The service was outstanding and our server did not miss a beat. He was very attentive and checked back often. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and there is plenty of room for large parties. Had a lovely anniversary dinner at the First Post, with a couple minor hiccups that were taken care of for us. We ordered calamari to share. It was super fresh but could have been fried 1 minute longer to crisp the breading. I ordered 8 oysters and received 6. The additional two came later. My husband had crab soup. I ordered a NY Strip for my entree, but didn't receive a steak knife with it. The steak was great, once I could cut it. My table knife just couldn't cut it. My husband had a sirloin steak and crab cake. He said the crab cake was only okay. We shared a few really large creme brulee for dessert. I LOVE THIS PLACE! I have a coworker who recommended it, and we decided to make the drive down from the Harrisburg area. We were greeted warmly at the bar and served drinks quickly. We started with a dozen Blue Point oysters, which are very reasonably priced ($2.50 each) and were absolutely delicious. They do have $1 buck-a-shuck Tuesdays, which are typically Delaware Bay oysters which are also fantastic! We also had a very good crab soup and calamari, both of which were amazing. The calamari does have tentacles so if you're a tentacle lover then you have to try these! We have also been there twice for buck-a-shuck Tuesdays and everything is always delicious and service at the bar is fast, friendly, and professional. Fantastic spot. I was in the area and looking for a place to eat. I saw online that The First Post had some history and great reviews. I was not disappointed. The exterior is beautiful. Just the walk from the parking lot was already winning me over, tons of spaces, scenic views. Once we entered we were greeted warmly by the staff. The restaurant interior is stunning. It looks like a piece of history. Our server was fantastic. Very attentive and On point with everything just like seemingly all the staff. We had some of the $2 oysters, the crab soup, the charred octopus and the ravioli- basically we nibbled on a bunch of starters. The desserts were so good! The octopus was delicious, great chunky portion, but the salinity from the capers was a bit much. That dish probably could have used citrus over capers and some fresh greens instead of the raw onion. Happen to be in the area and this was close to the hotel and got a lot of good reviews. Easy to understand why. Well-made cocktails, nice beer and wine selection, and outstanding food. Nice size portions, and the prices are right even in this age of over inflation. The double cut pork chop might be one of the best I've had. Cooked to perfection despite the thickness. Not an easy task, especially since they do not sous vide it (at least according to the bar tender). They still put out good quality at a good price. My only issue was the forgetful and inattentive service, which was kind of surprising, considering we were sitting right at the bar. They were busy, but not that busy. Worth the trip. Came in with a large group on our vacation and glad we found them. The wine list was surprisingly good but we started with cocktails first. Great Mule in some of the largest copper cups I have seen! The Scotch egg was superb! The Yolk was just right and the sausage had great flavorings and a bit of a kick. Charred octopus was done perfectly and flavored just right. It feels like you're walking into an old train station that's been converted into a restaurant- you could easily get lost. We ended up getting three apps that were all delicious to the point where we cleaned every inch of each dish. WORST FOOD EXPERIENCE! When we went the restaurant was fairly empty. We sat at the bar while we waited for our party to arrive. The beer selection was good. When everybody arrived, we sat at the table. We ordered oysters platter and Burrata as appetizers. It was okiesh. I was expecting the bread to be great but it tasted like stale bread. Next I noticed there is only only vegetarian option for Entree so I order that vegetarian pasta and OMG! It was like I was eating just plain tomato paste. This was a yelp find that ended up being a total diamond of a find. The drinks were well made and not overdone. The Brussel sprout appetizer is the best I have ever had. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu, but the burgers are just amazing. Finally, dessert is just.... Wow. I personally ordered the Chile Queso Burger and had so much flavor... guacamole steals the show and it also has strong cilantro flavor. I personally love cilantro but if you're not a cilantro fan, then I don't recommend ordering this. The meat in the burger was juicy perfection! My friends said their food was delicious! The reason for my 3 stars is that there was a bug (moth) in my friend's salad. I know that may not be 100% the restaurant's fault, but the incident was not handled well. First, we couldn't find our waitress...we waited about 10 minutes before getting up and looking for a waitress. Our waitress came and we explained what was happening (a bug crawled out of our salad), and then asks "you want me to get that for you?" She grabbed the bug and then we think she released it out into the wild. However, the manager was standing behind her the whole time and didn't address it. We came here on a Thursday night for rehearsal dinner. I was surprised that they had such a big room on the second floor to accommodate that many people as the first floor was tight on space. While visiting my friends, they recommended First Post as one of their favorite places to eat out. I'm a bit jealous that I'm so far but find comfort in the fact that it won't be the last time as I'll likely push for us to eat here on future visits to York!! Our server, Laurie, was one of the kindest, most attentive servers I've had in a while. I cannot commend her enough, anyone she spoke with could see she's a genuine people person, the management hopefully know how wonderful it is to have her! We ordered clams for an appetizer, and cups of French onion soup, which were delicious. For my entrée I chose to go for the chopped greek salad and let me tell you it's the best salad I've ordered, simple as that! To me, what really stuck out was the warm halloumi cheese, and the crispy filo because it captured the drizzle of honey. I enjoyed my salad to the fullest and also tried a bit of the cream cheese croutons from my friend's chicken caesar salad which I've never seen done before, a game changer in my book! It does not taste like chewing flowers, just yummy cider beer. Loved the winter warmer brown ale by Lancaster brewing. Lots of yummy caramel flavor in that one. Blackened scallop pasta came with a Caesar salad and it was okay. Bread was soft , pillowy and warm - worth a cheat day. Scallops were excellent - cooked to perfection, flavorful, and served atop a very creamy sauce with a homemade pasta.
