When there for mother's birthday on a Saturday, made reservations for seven people at seven o clock, got seated right away. Place was full but I can see why. Food was great, probably one of the best steak I've ever had. I ordered the Filet and crab cake. Ordered clams special, scallops, brussel sprouts, and guac and chips as appetizers for the table. My husband and I are new to York, PA and thought this might be a good place for dinner based on the 4-star rating. Nope, wrong. We moved here from a very 'foodie' area of New England so maybe our tastes are just different but this place was gross, edible, but gross. We started with mussels that were on special and described to us as being your traditional white wine broth and they showed up with a red sauce that had sausage, onions, and peppers in it. The grilled bread that accompanied the dish had a random dollop of pesto on it. Such an odd companion for sausage, onions, and peppers in red sauce. Not sure if they make their pesto or purchase it but I will say that piece of grilled bread and pesto sauce was the best part of the entire meal. We split a side caesar which had virtually no dressing on it, visibly undressed bowl of romaine lettuce. My husband got a steak and crab cake dinner. The steak was absolutely flavorless and the crab cake was gross and had a chlorine taste to it. The accompaniments were also flavorless, just a little bit of salt and pepper would go a long way here. I got a pasta special which included a pesto cream sauce, shrimp, lobster, and grilled cherry tomatoes. The lobster was stringy, the shrimp had a foul seafood fishy taste to it which I know to be the trademark of seafood not being fresh. The pasta was absolutely drowning in the sauce and there were randomly added mozzarella balls. We tried to recover with dessert and ordered the creme brûlée and it was flavorless, no hint of any vanilla bean having been used in the dish and the consistency was off. It tasted like they filled a dish with instant vanilla pudding and crystalized the sugar on top to make the presentation appear as though it was creme brûlée. Overall everything was gross and disappointing. The service was okay, not great but not awful. All in all our experience was subpar and we won't ever go back. read more

Enjoyed this place when it was the Road House, now not so much. The whole place is a mess, a yuppified one stop shop. Ordered Scotch Eggs, ok at best, the salmon was kind of dry and tasteless, had some kind of mashed potato/sea leg bed under it, not good. Skipped desert as I didn't want anymore disappointments. I thought it would be as good as Great American Saloon, I was incorrect, won't be coming here again. read more

We had an awesome experience at First Post! Everything was delicious from my NY strip to my husbands salmon salad. Mixed drinks were good too! We had Sam as our waitress who was friendly and knowledgable about the menu. Our drinks were always full! The building is amazing inside! Very cool old building restored to a trendy dining spot! They have excellent food, but it is a little pricey. I had the scallops from the menu and they were super flavorful. My husband had the lamb gnocchi and it was very good but heavy. So if you're looking for a light meal- that's not the one to get. But again, very yummy food. read more

Such a fantastic evening here. Our first time trying it and it was on a busy friday night. The only negative I could say was the wait but like I said, it was a friday night and that is to be expected. Finally decided to try this place the other week, and was very happy I did! Only waited about 25 minutes on a relatively busy Sunday night, and after we seated our food came quickly. I got the filet mignon which was prepared perfectly. Large cut of meat that literally melted in my mouth. All of the sides were good as well, and the bread was delicious. The building is beautiful as well, definitely a great atmosphere. Prices are a dollar or two higher than some competitors, but the quality of the food justifies the price difference. First Post is a welcome change from chain restaurants in the area, and will probably be our new choice for date nights! read more

Always a great experience. The food is excellent. The service is outstanding. This is what we would consider a special occasion location. Perfect for a birthday, anniversary, or to show off for out of town guests. I wouldn't suggest taking children, although I'm sure they would be accommodated without any hesitation. read more

Food is pretty good here. Pricing is a little high but this is not a chain restaurant so you are getting food that is actually prepared for you and not nuked. Nice, knowledgeable waitress. Can be a bit noisy when it is busy. All the guests at our table said their main courses were great, but the appetizer of the Scotch eggs we shared were just meh. The place is absolutely beautiful no doubt they spared no expense redecorating. The price is sort of expensive their attempt at fine dining leaves something to be desired. The seafood is sort of strange I've never seen anything like it normally served warm I've been there two or three times and is always warm spiney looking imported Frozen from Florida I don't have a clue? They don't look like any shrimp I've ever eaten. I'm giving you three stars because we're in York Pennsylvania if you're in a normal City like New York or Philadelphia it would probably be one or two stars drinks a great Ambiance gorgeous service outstanding food mediocre at best. read more

The First Post is our favorite restaurant. We always go there when we have something to celebrate. I have tried everything on the seafood portion of the menu except the fish and chips. My favorites are the rockfish and crab cake. My favorite salad is the salmon salad. They have a rotating selection of cocktails, beer, wine and appetizers. We enjoyed The First Post on a weekday night, party of 4 adults. The restaurant wouldn't accept reservations via Open Table and when I contacted them directly they told me they don't take reservations for a party of 4 on a weeknight. Although we were seated right away, I am more comfortable walking into a place with a set reservation and it elevates the status of the restaurant in my mind. I'd suggest The First Post become acquainted with Open Table or some other online reservation system. The food is good but the service and atmosphere are what is most appealing. We had Sharla as our server upstairs and she was great. She was friendly and accurately delivered our meals! Later at the bar we had "Joe" (name on bill but JOE was a female) and she was equally as impressive in taking care of us and making some delicious cocktails! I had the salmon and it was good. I'd suggest a little more of the glaze on top of the salmon and then it would probably be terrific. The salmon was served with a 'warm potato crab salad' that should have been hot - although still not real tasty. Others in my party had crab cakes and the ribs. The ribs are a huge portion and enjoyed! The crab cakes received good marks too. The First Post is defiantly a place we enjoyed and will likely return when back in this area. I think it's a good place now but with some tweaks they can be even better. Good luck to them! read more

Upon entering the restaurant, we were seated promptly. The ambiance was comfortable, yet modern and sleek. The menu provided many seemingly delectable options that made it hard to choose just one. We ordered the Greek Chicken Pita and Cali Chicken sandwich. Believe me when I say, compliments to the chef! The Tzatziki sauce offered a great flavor. Initially, I was a bit hesitant of the guacamole mayo, but paired really well with the grilled chicken. The waitress was attentive and service was overall good. Our group of friends went out for dinner thought we would try the First Post. Greeted quickly and seated quickly. I had the Clam Chowder Rockefeller soup which was hot and tasted good, also served their dinner rolls which were warmed and also tasty. I had a draft of their Crooked Horse Lager which I though a little flat but not terrible. For the main course I had Seared Scallops with risotto and carrots. The presentation was nice, the risotto was very good. For desert I had Crème Brulee which also was good. The only criticisms I had for the meal was the clams were a little tough and the sea scallops were sandy. In summary, very nice restaurant inside, service was good, prices seemed good just a little more attention to the soup and scallops and beer would have upped this rating. read more

I ate here tonight with my parents and uncle. We waited for over an hour to get a table. The appetizer came quickly and our waitress was very nice and helpful. We ordered the calamari and I was slightly horrified that I could specifically see the baby squids in places where they weren't breaded and they also weren't cut so they were very easy to identify. I got a Cesar salad which was mediocre and had pieces of brown lettuce in it. Then for my entree I got the shrimp scampi which was very enjoyable. Others at my table had the shrimp tacos, salmon and the lamb burger, all were thoroughly enjoyed. A little above average price but I would probably go again. read more

Absolutely gorgeous bar! From the outside, the building is nothing to write home about but don't judge a book by its cover! First, I was impressed with the parking situation. The parking is a tad far from the building and if it was cold or raining I can see that to be a turnoff. BUT, they have a cute little complementary shuttle! How thoughtful! I was impressed next by the beautiful bar. It's really nice and I couldn't decide what to order from their drink menu because ALL of the speciality drinks looked great! I ended up ordering more then one cocktail just so I could try them. Then, of course, the food was amazing. I ordered the sea scallops and they were cooked perfectly and were served on top of some delicious risotto! My husband ordered the pork chop and it was HUGE! We were pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes. Also, my hubs isn't a huge fan of anything green... But he loved the brussel sprouts! Have tried to get in here on several occasions, and it's always busy. Finally made reservations for 6 of us one evening, and enjoyed ourselves very much. The food was very good. Nice selections on the menu. Everything we ordered was very delicious, and no one had any complaints. The service was very good - friendly & helpful. The decor is fabulous. Very cool looking bar, and well done throughout the interior. It's definitely a more upscale place for York, and the pricing reflects that. If you are looking for good food, and you don't mind paying a little extra for that, this is a good place to go. If you are more value oriented, this may not be a good value kind of place. It's still very good, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for upscale dining. read more
