Unfortunately, I would not recommend this sandwich for anyone. The Egg Nog Latte was decent and extra props (& extra star) to PH Coffee for not charging for alternative milk. I was in the area visiting family, so I decided to bring my mom and try out this coffee shop. I did not see any visible sign that was very obvious, so we accidentally went past it, and then turned around and took a right into the parking lot. It didn't help that MDOT is redoing the road so there are a bunch of cones out and there's two lanes and one lane is the one that is the drivable one. The other lane is being repaved and that is the lane that you have to turn into the coffee shop. So we parked and went through an open door to the right and we saw that it said the name of the café on the door, but it's not something that you could see while driving. I think the main thing that we saw was a sign that said, Under New Management. We walked in and the owner was sitting inside the coffee shop because we were the only people there at the time. He got up and went around the corner and greeted us. I didn't feel like he was particularly welcoming. I kind of felt like we were interrupting whatever he was doing. When we mentioned how it was difficult for us to identify the coffee shop he got upset about that. I told him that I was sorry to see that the roadwork was being done at that time because it probably affected his business and all the businesses in the area. He told us it did and in a bitter tone. I asked whether they had any cappuccinos for my mom and he said they didn't have any blended drinks. So she ordered a latte and I ordered a sugar-free oat milk vanilla latte. My mother ordered a chocolate type of latte, but she didn't care for it. My latte was OK, but there was cinnamon on top which I did not ask for. The coffee shop was very large, which was a positive and had a good variety of seating and a variety of cool art. I believe that they had some food choices for lunch and also some pastries. I liked the coffee shop building itself, but I feel like the customer service could've been more friendly. When we were leaving, we went over to tell him goodbye and wish him well and hoped that the roadwork would be done soon for all the businesses and affected. My mom mentioned that because of the roadwork and how we couldn't see a specific sign for the coffee shop. It was a little difficult to find. He was upset about that comment. I used to own a business and my husband currently owns a business and it's always good to keep an open mind from customers and their feedback, especially if it is something that is important like not being able to actually see a visible sign for the business. My only issues with my experience was the long line and sparse seating available, but I visited over the weekend following Christmas so it may have been busier than usual. Once I got to the front of the line, I was greeted by the friendly barista and placed my order. I got a 12 oz. Latte with spiced brown sugar syrup and it was delicious! The latte was very smooth and creamy, and had the perfect amount of syrup to complement the espresso taste. There were two stocked refrigerators and some snacks available in line if you want a quick soda or snack. Note that you can only take food and beverages to the coffee shop area and lobby entrance to the museum!

However, the same can not be said for the outpost inside the Nelson Atkins. It is bland and sad, I don't mind paying $7 for a coffee if the vibes of the coffee shop come correct, but, in this case, you're really only paying the price for the ease of the location being inside the museum. The expresso itself is good quality too, but it's not justifiable for a subpar coffee shop interaction. After walking around for a few hours, I grew thirsty, so I was willing to pay an arm and a leg for my iced decaf latte if that's what it took. Instead, I ended up paying nearly $7 for a drink that wasn't even filled up all the way... sheesh! Also, don't come close to closing. It was about 10 min till 5 pm, and the batista wanted nothing to do with any of the customers. Hopefully, an experience here with a tourist won't scare them away from Kansas City's vibrant coffee culture. Just do yourself a favor and wait until you're out of the museum to get your beverage... or visit the real Thou Mayest in River Market!

It's been three consecutive times that I've came and the brew has been on the disappointing week side. If I got something else like a chai, it's been a little on the lackluster side too. They used to have some awesome baristas, and I haven't seen this one barista who made sure things ran smoothly. Yesterday, I noticed customer service really lacking. When I arrived at 11:30 AM the three baristas were all up front and had been attentive, but around 1 PM they had all drifted in back and none would pop their head out to see if anyone had come to the counter. I had stood at the counter for five minutes or so, and had thought I had made eye contact with one girl, but apparently she must have not seen me. I even said "hello" out loud, but nothing. A minute or two later a lady came in and was waiting behind me, and after a minute or two she asked if I had been waiting long. I told her the truth, and eventually a barista came out and asked me if I had been waiting long? I explained that I had, and had tried to catch someone's attention. I ordered an iced matcha and the lady behind me ordered some other drink. Guess who's came out first? I waited a few more minutes and noticed the another barista (a guy) had just started making an iced match, which apparently was my drink. Where were the girls? In the back, chatting away and giggling. I guess neither of them knew how to make an iced matcha.
